ESPN mock here has the Vikings taking Dallas Turner at #11 and then Penix in the second round. I do not believe this will happen, I don’t think they’re going to take a QB just to take a QB.

The Vikings age asks, should the Vikings bring back old friend Eric Bieniemy for as some sort of offensive assistant? I don’t see any way that happens, doesn’t seem like he’d fit in the kumbaya klub.

- Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.
Not to bad, as least as good as KAM.

I am just going to assume I didn’t miss anything today.
Just the usual.
I made BLTs for supper. Yum. The bacon was perfect. Not too crisp, not to soft.
One thing folks don’t talk a lot about with rookie QB’s is the difference between the college ball and the NFL ball. The NFL ball is larger, and some college QB’s struggle to throw it well initially. Lamar Jackson said it took him some time to adjust to the larger ball and threw a lot of “ducks” at first.
I’m out. Hopefully make some sausages tonight and the sickness going through our house the last couple of days will leave in the night. So far me and one of two kids have been afflicted. Here’s to hoping that is the end of it.
Good luck Bow
Hopefully so, for like the past 3 months at my house, thing one or two, my wife, or I have been sick.
Had something happen to me last week, still kind of thinking about it – mostly politics, complete chicken shit and a little football.
My wife talked me into going to wine dinner (her favorite). Don’t know anyone and we get set at a table with two other couples. Right next to me is a couple (both trial lawyers) from Illinois. I knew as lawyers I needed to be on good political behavior – esp. drinking. Just trying to make conversation, I mention how much I like Chicago, and feel for everyone with all the crime. THE response – you must watch a lot of Fox news. Well, things went to crap real fast after that. But, when it got to the point when she said- well. you just don’t want a better America, just go backwards thankfully, my wife grabbed my leg and I excused myself and went to the bathroom. When got back, wife was in my place, which saved me.
On the way home. told my wife (usually don’t cuss too much around her) – I’m so fuckin sick of this limp dick, chicken shit crap of people pulling this high ground crap to put others down who disagree. Oh, their for American, and if you disagree you’re crap.
See some of this in football arguments too – Oh, you don’t want to win a SB, etc. That’s chicken shit too.
Anyway still running hot about this. Screw people who pull this crap..
Watch who you have dinner with.
‘I’m so fuckin sick of this limp dick, chicken shit crap of people pulling this high ground crap to put others down who disagree. Oh, they’re for American, and if you disagree you’re crap….’
Preach it brother!!
That’s why God made steak knives JR…
Yea – but next time I’m just going to say (really) – ‘Fuck you, you’re no American, kiss my ass.’
I know you’re a gentleman, I’m not feeling much like that lately.
I believe in being civil… but I might be good with that… grin.
Me too – but i’m tired of the self serving high minded chicken shit crap that paints you as a second class person for disagreeing. So, civil to a point – then the steak knive.
Knowing me, I would just wear them out. Debating with a liberal lawyer? I’d have them tied up in emotional knots in about 2 minutes, and laugh about it.
Or stupid – had a conversation regarding how things have changed regarding tolerance on television and how a show like M*A*S*H couldn’t be made today with characters like ‘Spearchucker Jones’ – was immediately told that I had been brainwashed into believing that institutionalized racism within power structures is a normal thing and by watching shows like M*A*S*H and ‘All In The Family’ I was further perpetuating the problem. I excused myself and smoked a joint the size of my foot while listening to HW Jr’s ‘Dixie On My Mind’ in the basement to calm myself. Spent a lot of time in the basement while she was here.
It’s getting old!
I agree JRob…. Some of my closest friends and I disagree ideologically but manage to keep civil and discuss topics while finding the humor in it and understanding that a person’s politics and idea/belief structure is but a small makeup of that person. It also feels like it’s the far-edge & fringe elements of both major parties – the crazy left progressives that want everything for everyone right fucking now & the super far-right white supremacist wackadoos that openly lobby for civil war – are holding both parties (and the majority of actual voters that show up at the polls) hostage by keeping their respective nuttiness in the news and allowing Johnny Democrat or Jane Republican to keep believing that the other side has lost it’s goddamn mind. There is so much more common ground for people to find solidarity in. The mass majority want safe neighborhoods and schools, affordable goods and services, less violence, freedom of speech, the right to defend ourselves, free and fair elections, freedom to worship who/what we choose, clean air, safe water and sufficient healthcare that protects our young and sustains our elderly. We just disagree on how to get there (not us personally, society as a larger construct) the idea that disagreement somehow equates to either ignorance or lack of patriotism is fucking absurd.
So why do people associate white supremacists with the right? Because the left puts them there? I don’t know any conservatives who identify with white supremacists. To me they are political outliers. But the left wants everyone to believe the right are a bunch of racist haters, so naturally they claim white supremacist belong on the right.
I think it’s easy to associate the boogeyman with the thing you don’t like – associating WS with conservatives is an easy, cheap (and wholly inaccurate – I agree they’re mostly an outlier) way to discredit an entire belief/idea structure in one fell swoop, thereby undermining the credibility of that particular movement.
It’s the same as saying that the Democrats are all Marxists looking to turn your children gay and normalize pedophilia. Some may very well be – but it’s a low percentage.
I think the majority of WS that vote do probably vote republican – liberals are also a target of these groups as most anything decreed as liberal in these circles is equated to also being Jewish – so I think very few, if any WS are voting blue.
Regardless, I think the major majority of republicans and democrats fall somewhere in the ‘common-sense’ middle – hoping for things, willing to concede others and understanding that compromise doesn’t equate surrender as long as the conversation remains open and their voices have a chance to be heard.
Unfortunately it’s the screaming from the fringe that makes the best sound bite, and not the normal, common-sense voice speaking clearly and calmly.
Have to say, you make a lot of sense here.
Every once and again I’m good for a thought…..
Probably used mine up until summer.
I hate going out to eat with people I don’t know. Many years ago I got roped into going out to eat with some people my wife knew. The one lady (I use that term loosely) was all self-righteous about how bad diet soda is. They supposedly had some and everyone in the household got headaches, blah, blah, blah….. Diet soda probably isn’t the best thing in the world, but her self-righteous know-it-all attitude made me promptly order a diet soda.
Tonight on The Curse of Oak Island: Probe digging begins under the Garden Shaft with ‘thrilling results’
What is the curse of the oak island
A show on the History Channel that is in its 11th season. It’s following the exploits of two brothers from Michigan who are chasing treasure buried there over 225 years ago. They actually have found items dating back to 300 B.C. No treasure yet though.
I’ll have to check it out
Bet KAM goes after Penix.
Well in 5 weeks at the latest (actually 36 days from now) he has to tell everyone his decision on Cousins. Once he lets everyone know he’s moving on, the rest of the story will then be written.
I think KAM will make a play for Russell Wilson, and draft someone.
Why would he overpay for a veteran and take a 28 mill dead cap hit when he can just overpay for a veteran and take a 14 mill dead cap hit?
Quit using logic.
Draft a rookie and let them sit being either :
Those are really the only 2 realistic options, with Mullens being a replaceable cog in that machine. There is no way they go after somebody like Russ though.
Hoping KAM is too smart for that.
He has yet to prove that so far but one can still hope.
I am trying to decide what to do if he sells out and trades for a top 3 draft pick for ……The CryBaby.
I just might have to find another team at that point. I hope/pray it doesn’t happen.
Sit still and draft McCarthy unless he’s going to fall to the end of the 1st and then trade back in for him. The problem is you might outsmart yourself with that move, especially with the Donkeys behind them so if there is a guy that former QB KOC thinks is the guy, get him. Don’t worry about the price. If it works, then nobody will remember the price. If it doesn’t you’ll be fired either way.
Bow… you know the answer to that… KM says he wants “flexibility” in the contract, i.e. the team has to be able to dump the contract any time they want. Cousins won’t sign a contract that is worthless. The deal is done, KAM is hoping Cousins will change his mind. That ain’t happening, and in the next 36 days, KAM will have to make it public.
As already discussed, flexibility can mean more than simply being able to cut a player. There are so many ways to build a contract in the NFL that can give the player financial security while also giving the team what a GM might consider flexibility.
“Flexibility” in this case means limited guaranteed money, and no “no trade clause”. We all know this is the sticking point. KAM is getting nothing and Cousins is walking.
LOL, what the actual fuck…
For the record, that is not me Ben.
I’m actually laughing, I assumed not, maybe Jrob or floridaskol though
I’ve lived in 26 countries… you see weird shit everywhere you find human beings… believe me.
Shit – not too bad. If it was up North, the guy could have ‘shit’ on a women, stolen her purse, stabbed her, and been back out on the street in the afternoon to do it again.
In Florida, we lock them up.
Yep… we protect the victims… not the perpetrators.
@cause you are racists, duh@
Racists against people who do crimes that is.
Laughing… indeed I am…
For sure, even in the tiny town of 76 people I grew up in people were weird, one of the neighbors there when I was a kid was like 45 years old, still lived with his parents who were wealthy from owning one of the biggest apiaries (honey manufacturers) in the midwest, anyway one day he just decides to strangle his mother to death, luckily a very large and much stronger next door neighbor heard what was going on and quickly subdued him. Crazy neighbor went to the loony bin for a while, then came home and a couple years later tried to strangle her to death again.
Gotta love small town insanity….
Lol
Lol…. didn’t figure so.
Same for me, NVF seems to busy to find time to poop on dead possums
Can’t imagine trying to shit on a live one….
Good point!
How small of a hole can an opossum fit through?
I think they are slightly more narrow than a racoon so I’d say you could fit a full 4 in the human anus without damage
Brain Bleach!!
Where did I leave my Brain Bleach!!
At least in rush hour traffic. Don’t need to know what he’s doing in the back yard when the wife goes out with friends or goes to bed early.
That brings up a good question though, what do you do if you’re in rush hour grid lock if you’ve recently eaten Taco Bell and are actually going to shit yourself? Just shit your pants in the car or pull over and shit on a dead possum?
I’m shitting in the car and dealing with it.
I see no point in making a shitty situation shittier by shitting in front of an audience – assuming the possum is in full view of the aforementioned gridlock traffic.
If it’s a relatively private dead possum to shit on I may risk it.
I’m the opposite, no way am I desecrating my pickup that way and having to replace the front drivers seat, I go full yobagoya
I always keep blankets and towels in my vehicle for Goose – assuming that scenario, I’d attempt to fashion a sumo-style loinwrap with that and tell Gooser poppa had to use it for the greater good. He’ll be cool with it if my apology also comes along with beef jerky.
clever
Love home made jerky, store bought to thin.
Societal collapse ben. Not hard to see.
Was reading below ‘Denial’ is a town in Florida.
Don’t think so.
Have a red govenor.
Have two red senators.
and 30 red electoral votes.
Seems there’s a lot of ‘denial’ everywhere else, but not in Florida.
Minny 100% Dem across the board, how does that happen?
Most big cities that way, perhaps more so up North. Always wondered how you ended up with so many Somalians.
I live in little Mexico. Somalis abundant everywhere. Walz declared us a sanctuary state. No shit? Never noticed. Taxpayer problem.
Sorry man – feel for you.
It’s getting beyond BS what this country is doing. I will shut my mouth.
See something I posted above. i’m tired of it, I’m going to get louder
Lincoln, where I live, is a sanctuary city for both Vietnamese in the 70’s/80’s and a large Middle Eastern population mainly from Iraq/Syria in the late 90’s and another large influx after the Iraq invasion in 2003. Obvious cultural differences but for the most part we’ve avoided a lot of the crime and other issues. Lincoln is just under 300k people though – a far cry in population from say Chicago or New York.
You can find good people in all of those groups you mentioned.
And back in those times they took the time/effort to check those that were coming in and then to get rid of those that caused problems.
Very different from today effort wise.
Crime is rampant. Gang theft is beyond stupid. Control? What a fucking joke.
I figure that those people in Blue/Lib cities deserve what they voted for so screw them.
If you didn’t vote for it but your neighbors did then time to find a different neighborhood.
We did. 5 more months.
Not to stir up too much here, but thoughts?
https://www.yahoo.com/news/jury-deliberations-entering-2nd-day-051401101.html
I agree with the jury here.
I’m concerned with this. Many teenagers have been tried as adults for violent crimes. What parent can completely control the actions of any teenager? I had a girlfriend who would carry sexy clothes in her gym bag, and change into them for me once she got to school. Kids can get around parental control. This is a tragedy, and terrible. But unless the parents were actively encouraging their child to kill others, I can’t buy this conviction.
How the hell did neither the school, nor his parents check his backpack? That would seem like something to do immediately knowing he had access to firearms. Either way, its a slippery slope blaming the parents for the actions of the child.
Because it is the ‘easy wrong answer’.
The Teacher sees it all the time. School Administrators are more worried about the consequences of any action they take then actually keep the kids/staff/workplace safe.
They figure they will get in trouble less often by doing nothing if they have any excuse than by doing their job and having someone/anyone complain.
I would assume safety would trump all, but that’s just me. As a parent myself though, in that situation, I would have pulled my kid from school and taken any firearms out of their possession.
Like I learned working in prison.
If you bet on the easy wrong answer over the difficult right answer and you could get away with it 999 out of 1,000. But that one time it comes back to bite you could cost you your career or worse.
Well said
Seen it happen to often.
ie
Had a Sgt ask me to come work for him. I knew that his crew cut too many corners for me to be comfortable so I declined.
Less than a month later there was a fight/small riot with about a dozen inmates assaulting staff. A dozen responding staff plus the Sgt were all fired.
The nurse (who was married to an inmate) complained that they were too mean so the Woke Admin threw them all under the bus.
They took some shortcuts and once the spotlight was on them it was easier/cheaper/safer for the Suits to throw them under the bus.
@maybe we should blame all the other parents for not arming their kids@
At least the teachers. Unless they have purple hair and hang rainbow flags in their classrooms.
Also if you do nothing, you can easily find a scapegoat and blame them for being the one to do nothing.
You mean the Mom who caused many of his mental issues?
The Mom who bought him the gun and didn’t secure it?
The Mom who didn’t take him home the day of the shooting like the school asked because she was going to see the man she was screwing on the side?
No problem with that verdict at all.
The mom caused many of his mental issues?
Thought his father bought the gun. I could be wrong.
The school didn’t insist she should take him home… obviously. They apparently saw no threat.
The school saw him daily, and witnessed his interactions with others. His mother was not there to witness his activities in the school environment. No one in the school stood up and said the child has issues and needs to be evaluated? Hmmmm.
I focused on the Mom as she was the focus of the story.
Dad’s trial is up next.
Just insert ‘parents’ for mom if it makes you feel better.
And he asked for that specific gun because he figured that was the type he needed for shooting kids at school.
Administrators did want them to take charge of the kid and they refused too.
Many at the school stated that the kid had issues and they referred him to the Administrators, that is why the parents were called in.
Start a blame pie and Admin and the parents both get a sizable piece. The Kid then The Parents then School Admin IMHO.
I agree the precedent is concerning, but it has to be a case-by-case basis. In this case, the mom was clearly culpable, and also has no remorse.
It’s been mentioned but thanks ben for posting thread.
No wonder Purdy is so good…all of the top 5 WRs are apparently on his team.
Deebo Samuel Names The Top-5 WRs In The NFL (msn.com)
As i typed a question about sports coverage before getting kicked to curb by Skolholes is Amazon and Prime the future? No cable? I’d just love a monthly package so i can watch garbage like WWE.
Meant Peacock.
Likely so. NFL markets streaming their own channel and RedZone right now. NBC/CBS use Peacock & Paramount. MNF I believe can be streamed on the ESPN+ apps. It’s likely headed to all streaming – although cutting out broadcast networks entirely might prove tricky – still a decent sized audience to get to using antenna only for television.
Just continue the broadcast networks and allow people a la carte game purchases.
Couldn’t agree more. Also move MNF back to broadcast where it belongs.
My God. Logged out, commenting closed. Where does this shit come from?
I’ve found it seems to be about 24-30 hours from your last log in.
At least with Firefox. I don’t know if that is a skoloholics setting or a browser thing.
Check the “Remember me” box when you log in next time, should keep you logged in longer.
Sometimes its because “updates” occur
I don’t log out. Site is always on menu bar. Not computer savy though, not the brightest knife in the drawer.
I think you get auto logged out. Likely a security issue, especially if you use Duck Duck Go or some other type of security type plug ins. I think Firefox has enough of their own built in too that won’t let you stay perpetually logged into a website for your protection.
I do get warning issues time to time. Microsoft.
If you’re running an ad blocker or some other plug in that may be what logs you out as well. If so, check the settings and you may be able to tell it to leave you logged in here. I know Duck Duck Go will let you “Fireproof” sites, at least on mobile, and stay logged in.
i’m heading into the armpit that is called wisconsin tomorrow…
sturgeon bay for work, have to drive through gross green bay
Moon the stadium. If you’re feeling nice, take a leak on it too and make it smell better.
What are you doing in my armpit?
I forgot is was Tuesday, so I will leave this here.
Everything is Kirk’s fault.
If it wasn’t inspired by the Beatles it was definitely Kirk’s fault.
Laughing
Kirk is definitely the beatles fault
So Ponder is officially off the hook from now on?
Last night I watched all the Pro Bowl YouTube videos. I must say, they are more interesting than watching what had become of the actual Pro Bowl game.
It was nice to see how diverse the challenges are, and how they are making it more inclusive for all players on the team, especially creating things that the ST can contribute to. They actually put competition back into it.
However, the biggest disappointment was the Closest To The Pin challenge. What on Earth were they thinking, pitting players who actually know how to play golf against others that clearly had a club handed to them for the first time in their lives just minutes prior to starting the challenge?
I mean, seriously. They let the one dude hit a driver on a par 3 that most players were hitting an 8-iron. And I swear the one dude had trouble figuring out what end of the club to hold.
Yeah… and what does that have to do with football? I watch the NFL for football. I watch the Golf Channel for golf.
Glorious Tuesdays!!! Lots of QB related disagreements. Remember when NLNV wasn’t around and the rest of us pro-Cousins folks had to try to carry the water…..Not anymore! NLNV is tireless in his responses…..the rest of the pro-Cousins crowd can just relax.
Thanks NLNV!
Laughing… thanks NoDak…
Illigitimi non carborundum!
Laughing… indeed JR… I am not an easy out…
It also helps the balance that some of the most extreme anti cousins people are banned
This is true as well…..
Damn it Ben! I thought you banned Surly…
Kirk could sign a 3 year $6.00 contract with $4.00 guaranteed and people will want to cut him.
Yo yo yo.
Just checking in.
Our annual audit is going on, so I’m just trying to get some air.
If you don’t hear from me, they have arrested me.
‘If you don’t hear from me, they have arrested me’
Make sure you get on good terms with the ‘shot caller’ in jail/prison.
He can make sure that the ‘rent’ you have to pay is less ‘strenuous’.
Good luck. State is in our building right now too. Ps and Qs.
I am corresponding with some government officials. I feel like I’m back in school and getting graded on a book report for not clearly enough stating minor details while trying to hold the hand of somebody who doesn’t understand what they’re reviewing.
Yup. That’d be government work….
Media selection has been updated to honor Toby Keith
No. That is the answer to the question of the day…
The great ESPN has us taking Dallas Turner, edge at #11. Penix at #42 in 2nd.
I like the Dallas Turner pick. Penix at 42, is OK. I don’t think he’ll be anything special in the NFL.
Agreed…I
Agreed. Penix is a wasted pick IMO.
yeah, I am leaning towards “wasted pick” designation as far as Penix is concerned…but you never know…
Agreed
Penix isn’t special and his knee is a major concern. I”d pass.
I don’t know… sounds like to me if he’s your QB you might want to run instead…
COUGH COUGH bradford COUGH COUGH COUGH knees COUGH
Exactly
Just say NO to an injury-prone QB.
It’s not ‘if’ it’s ‘when.’ And usually at the worst time.
Another kick in the nads is if Hunter doesn’t get signed then we should have traded him. KAM ain’t getting much done as of now.
KAM could sign Hunter to an extension, then trade him… but you’re right. Not super impressed with anything KAM has done to date.
He is smug and has nothing to back up his attitude.
Agree with that.
Then we would have to console ourselves with the extra draft pick for when he signed with a new team for big money.
His agent will want big bucks coming off 16.5 sacks or whatever it was and him turning 30. Sure he walks.
Since it is Tuesday, is Purdy better than Cousins, based only on athletic ability and football IQ?
He’s better for the 49ers than Cousins is the for the Vikings because he already has 4 times as many playoff wins in a third less time period… This is not a black and white subject.
A few people believe that Cousins could go to the superbowl with 9ers line up. And a few say he could not go to the superbowl with 9ers lineup.
I personally believe Cousins is a better QB than Purdy.
There is a GIANT problem with that… Like a 40 Million dollar problem with that. Cousins could go to the Superbowl with the 9ers line up of course he could but the 9ers wouldn’t have that lineup with his price tag. I think right now Kirk is the better QB, Purdy could end up the better QB, only time will tell.
That’s a false narrative. Mahomes is going to the Super Bowl, and his pricetag is way over $40M…
Mahomes plays for the 9ers… Wow, where have I been?
The point you made is teams can’t go to the Super Bowl with Cousins because of his contract. That would be totally false.
I never made that claim. My claim was that the VIKINGS haven’t been able to make it work. That’s one team that has 6 years of valid data to back it up…
The Vikings made bad personnel choices. Cousins contract had nothing to do with it.
Everyone conveniently forgets about the terrible drafts KAM has had and also the poor QB play when Cousins was out with injury. Would people really rather watch that? It amazes me how underappreciated he is.
I appreciate him very much. He is and has been a top 10 QB easily every year. Again, just because I say it hasn’t worked and it’s time to move on doesn’t mean I blame Kirk. It just hasn’t worked.
This is a fair statement. Though a little unfair to Kirk, I could see how people don’t expect things to get better, especially given his age and now injury.
Personally I hope he goes somewhere and does win it all. I’d love to cheer for the guy he’s been great and it would show the Vikings what they did wrong with him.
Man, would people go crazy then… “WHY COULDN’T HE DO IT WITH US!?!?!”
They would hate him so much more.
Cousins has been on two very dysfunctional teams. He made both of them competitive. Both teams pretty much failed on every level except the passing game. Cousins has always been great at throwing the ball. He doesn’t block, tackle, or kick the ball very well though.
Pre-Kirk the Vikings were in the NFC Championship game. He did not make them competitive. They were better before Kirk.
Stop with this false narrative.
The team that preceded Cousins ran the ball effectively and had a historic defense. They brought in a new OC though, and their run coordinator died just before the season started. The offense was foreign to everyone, and the OC got fired, yet Cousins was spectacular. He completed over 70% of his passes with 30TD’s. How is that not better?
Since Cousins arrived here, he’s compiled more TD’s and more yards in a five year stretch than any QB in Vikings history. How is that not better?
False narrative? You’re the one that said Kirk made them competitive. Whether Kirk had anything to do with it or not, the Vikings actually competed for a SB pre-Kirk. Kirk did not make the Vikings competitive, nor did he make the Redskins competitive since they also went further in the playoffs pre-Kirk. Kirk puts up good stats, but not a single team he has been on has actually been competitive. Time to move the goalposts to the parking lot.
Of course he made them more competitive. He scored more points, and threw for more yards than any QB in Vikings history in a five year span, and he threw the fourth most TD’s in the league during that time. How does that not make the Vikings better, and make them more competitive?
1 year pre-Kirk : NFC Championship Game
1st year with Kirk: no playoffs
All the years since Kirk got to MN: 1 playoff win.
NFC Championship game is more competitive than averaging .500 and only winning one playoff game. You play to win, not throw for lots of yards.
Non sequitur argument…
You keep insisting Cousins is the only player on the team…
No, you said Kirk made them competitive. I simply pointed out that the Redskins were never competitive and the Vikings were more competitive pre-Kirk, therefore showing you the ridiculous flaw in your statement. Go eat some ice cream.
The Redskins won the NFC East the first year Cousins was the starter, with no defense, no running game, and a rookie OC.
The two years before Cousins became the starter the Redskins went 7-25. With Cousins they went 24-23-1. Since Cousins left, the Redskins are 43-71-1.
Yes… Cousins made the Redskins more competitive.
You didn’t say more competitive. You said competitive. .500 with one division title and an early exit in the playoffs isn’t competitive.
Cousins kept the Redskins in almost every game. He led scoring drives in the 4th quarter multiple times inside two minutes, that the defense pissed away. I guess if I detailed every single game though you would still claim that Cousins did not make the Redskins competitive.
The Redskins record with and without Cousins under center is glaring.
The huge defensive fall and turnover, along with Zimmer sucking at being a coach, are the reasons for this downfall, not Kirk IMO.
I didn’t say he was. I specifically addressed NLNVF’s absurd claim that the Vikings became competitive when Kirk got there and weren’t before then.
I didn’t EVER say the Vikings weren’t competitive before Cousins got here. I said, he made them competitive when he was here. The passing offense was the only part of the team that has been consistently top shelf since Cousins got to the Vikings. That’s it. Nothing else has been good year in and year out.
If the Vikings were already competitive, then he didn’t make them competitive. You could say he kept them competitive which would be a different argument, but to say he made them competitive means they were not competitive before Kirk. You can’t make something that already exists.
Now you’re spinning again… face it. Cousins is one of the best QB’s in the league, the Vikings hadn’t had a QB of his caliber in a long time, and he was the one part of the team that played well every year. Since he’s been in Minnesota, he is the main reason the team was competitive.
Careful… KFEY is about to label you as a lunatic…
He already hates me because my takes are “trash” and he is a slightly less intense version of Five.
So he’s Fievel…?
I didn’t say it was his fault. I said he hasn’t worked for the Vikings… No matter the reason, it hasn’t worked. Kirk at roughly the correct value he should get hasn’t worked. Either he takes a very team friendly deal or see ya later.
It hasn’t worked because the Vikings player selections have been crap. That’s why it hasn’t worked.
So every team in the league who hasn’t won the Super Bowl after 5 years, should get rid of its QB, because “it hasn’t worked”?
Worked for the Rams….
There was a huge rift between Goff and Sean McVay. Goff openly said “sometimes I listen to him, sometimes I don’t” and then consistently failed to execute the plays as called. McVay got fed up with Goff, and got rid of him.
Facts and all.
All of that is correct.
It’s also correct to say that Goff was there 5 years, got to 1 Super Bowl in year 3 (and lost) had his option picked up, played 2 more seasons.
No Super Bowl wins after 5 years and he was gone.
Then the Rams won the Super Bowl the next year.
So the ‘boot the QB who hath not winneth the Super Bowleth after 5 years’ thing worked out for the Rams.
I think that’s a stretch… we call that “spin” and faulty logic where I come from.
It’s neither spin nor faulty logic….
It’s what happened.
You intone cause and effect though that does not hold water. There is no cause and effect… just narrative with no basis. It’s like saying the sun came up today, and the Twins lost. See? When the sun comes up the Twins lose. Ipso facto arguments don’t wash.
You asked Edge above if every team who hasn’t won a Super Bowl in 5 years should get rid of their QB because it ‘hasn’t worked’
I just pointed out that getting rid of a QB after 5 years and no Super Bowl victories worked out for the Rams.
The logic doesn’t wash though does it? Josh Allen? Get rid of him. Herbert? Get rid of him. Dak Prescott?
One example (where the QB was truly a problem) does not a good argument make.
There was zero argument made. I just said it worked out for the Rams.
OK, but it worked out for the RAMs because the QB in this case WAS a problem.
‘OK, but it worked out for the RAMs’
I stopped reading after this….
😂😂
There’s a difference between not winning the SB and not even being close to sniffing a SB.
Every team in the NFL didn’t make it to the Division Championships, seemingly just a QB away, then to sign a very expensive QB who has netted 1 playoff win. Again, probably not his fault but IT HASN’T WORKED! Under multiple coaches, regimes etc…
No way the common component could have anything to do with sustained failure. It is much more likely that the numerous other changing components have continued to all fail.
And in all that time he thrived every year. Again, the issue isn’t probably Kirk. Although the one doubt I have is, is he really worth the pay. Not do his stats and such back it up but can his play cover the deficits in things we can’t afford because of his pay?
And not to mention he is almost 40 and coming off an achilles tear.
The common component is amongst the best in the league. How irrational can you be?
It’s NOT the QB Edge… how foolish can you be? Seriously? How many CB’s did the Vikings draft? How many bad players have they drafted in general? Just stop with this irrational commentary that the one of the best QB’s in Vikings history is the why it hasn’t worked. It’s not.
OK we’re just going to agree to disagree. Because actually I agree with you to a point but you seem to think things are black and white. I think there are a lot of issues, Kirk isn’t the issue but it would appear for whatever reason he is also not the answer.
My only point is if a team can’t win with the guy who produced the 4th most TD’s in the league from 2018 to 2022, and was leading the league in TD production in 2023, it ain’t the QB.
K, if the best tires in the world are the wrong fit for the car it’s not the tires fault but you need to get different tires.
Nah, if I put NASCAR slicks on my pickup it is definitely the transmissions fault when I get stuck in the mud.
Laughing… OK… that makes no sense, but OK…
Mahomes cap hit is less than 40 mil so no, your comment is false narrative. Next year though it will skyrocket to 57 mil, I’m guessing they address it in the offseason.
Mahomes signed a contract with a big roster bonus in every year so the team can gain something like 30 million per year with a simple restructure. While long term and reported as big bucks, Mahomes left a lot of flexibility for the team. Plus he is 10 times better than Kirk and can cover up warts that Kirk can’t.
Correct, much like Josh Allen’s contract there are multiple avenues to restructure along the way. What Kirk fanboys don’t understand is that the structure of Kirk’s contracts don’t allow for that long term flexibility.
Yeah, team flexibility does not necessarily mean the ability to dump a guy.
Cousins restructured his contract a number of times, so once again, a misrepresentation of the facts here.
Kirk didn’t restructure anything, the team didn’t even need his permission to do it. My comment isn’t a misrepresentation of the facts, Mahomes and Allen’s contracts allow for long term flexibility, the contracts Kirk has signed allow for one restructure at most because he’s never signed a contract longer than 3 years.
And with Kirk’s contracts, the only way to gain cap space is to add void years thereby extending the hurt of the contract.
You’re picking nits here now Ben. The length of Mahomes contract means it’s more flexible? I don’t see that. Mahome cap hit was over $37M this year, and will be over $57M next year, and over $60M the year after. Flexibility? Where? Nowhere.
You obviously don’t understand how NFL contracts work. The Chefs can reduce those cap hits by like 30 mill per year in approximately 5 seconds. The numbers you are spouting are not real numbers, simply numbers built into a contract for a player’s agent to say “look how much money I got this guy.”
Funny how a QB making over $52M a year is less of an impact than a QB making $40M a year, huh?
Not if you understand how NFL contracts work. 52 mill per year is not a real number.
I do understand it all Bow… that’s the point. The point is Cousins cap hit has never been the reason the GM selected the wrong players. It’s just a Cousins hate, false narrative.
No, you are moving the goalposts with every post. You said it doesn’t make sense for Mahomes longer deal to be more flexible than the short term fully guaranteed contracts Kirk has had. With a menial understanding of NFL contracts, you would not say something like that unless you know it is blatantly false and just don’t care about being accurate. Instead, you show your lack of knowledge and when called on it just move the goalposts out of the stadium.
The argument has always been about how “Cousins contract” is the reason that the Vikings are not good.
No, but you can say that it isn’t the one thing that made them bad while also saying it has not helped them. I’m replying to your specific comments, not some BS overarching narrative you are clinging to fighting.
The twists and turns of the argument are what they are, but the bottom line is the commentary that Cousins contract has held the team back is what is BS.
Its a combination of the two, if you have a QB with a large cap hit you have to have good drafts consistently, like KC has.
Laughing… that makes no sense at all Bow… you always have to have good player selection to build a winning team.
I didn’t say anything.
Laughing… sorry Bow… my bad.
Yes, a longer contract allows for more flexibility.
You are missing the point Ben. Saying Cousins contract will make it impossible for a team to win a Super Bowl while a player making more money than he is, is IN the Super Bowl, is the point.
Right, his cap hit will not make it impossible, his cap hit combined with poor drafting have made it so.
His cap hit wasn’t the reason the GM made bad draft selections.
Correct, Rick and KAM haven’t drafted consistently well the last 7 years or so. The fact is you have to draft consistently well if you have a large caphit QB. If you have a rookie contract, like say SF or Miami have, you have more wiggle room if you miss on picks because you have a lot more cap room to extend or sign FAs.
That’s true… if you have a rookie QB on a rookie contract like say Bryce Young, you can invest in all those other guys and win like the Panthers did, or Darnold and the Jets, or Jones and the Giants. Rookies normally take a couple years to get good, then if they become good, you have to pay them a big contract. In the meantime, they usually aren’t good and so the team is lacking.
Kind of works two ways Ben.
Or like Stroud and the Texans, or Burrow and the Bengals, or Allen and the Bills, or Russ and the Seahawks, or Mahomes and the Chiefs.
Stroud hasn’t won anything, nor has Burrows, nor has Allen, according to the standards of some folks here (I disagree). But other than Stroud, name the bad team these players were on. I’ll wait.
Actually, Stroud has won as many playoff games as Kirk and he’s only played one season.
There is no guaratee he will ever win another one… is there? Also, I totally agree, once in a while you will luck out and get a guy in the draft who plays well out of the gate. The odds are hugely against that though, statistics show.
The only stat that matters and will always be ignored by Kirks relatives and cult followers. Its like yelling into the mouth of madness.
The Bengals were so bad they drafted #1 overall to get Burrow and went to a SB his first full year as the starter. The Bills have been true contenders for a championship and not just a division title.
They haven’t won a Super Bowl… time to move on…
The Bengals should move on from Burrow by trading him to the Vikings and then sign Kirk.
O.K….
Could he go to the Superbowl with the Chiefs lineup??
With that Defense and the OL would have to be healthy. That’s the kicker right? Mahomes can get out of trouble. With the Chiefs lineup healthy, yes.
Fair enough.
Mahomes put up 9 points in the Super Bowl the last time his O-line wasn’t healthy.
There’s a difference between missing one starter vs 4 positions being 2nd or 3rd stringers.
Exactly, came to say the same thing.
The point is, no QB is going to be good behind a bad line, no matter HOW mobile he is.
I agree with that and I generally think mobility is overrated.
No
If the ‘Football IQ’ you are referring to is Shanahan’s then Yes.
I meant does he have better situational understanding than Cousins.
I would say no. Cousins has been in the NFL since 2012, and has devoted himself to studying opponent defenses, and developing his ability to beat them with his brain and his arm.
Purdy is still just 24 and developing as a passer. He has certainly fared well throughout his first two seasons, but he has had some bumps in the road, especially against top defenses. Shanahan uses a ton of timing routes in his offense. The receivers win quick, and are open for pretty easy throws a lot of the time.
Who buys this garbage? lol
Shocked that KFEY and NLNV disagree.
He lives in denial…
De Nile is not just a river in Egypt.
No, I live in reality. You live in LaLa land, which while nice…does leave a lot to be desired.
No… you are out there flapping… it’s quite clear to most rational people.
I think Kfey lives in North Dakota
Laughing, yes, Denial, North Dakota
I think denial is a town in Florida.
Its a river over by Egypt somewhere…
Heard they have a nice golf course there for soon to be retirees.
I don’t think Biden will be welcome in Florida.
Kirk’s FIL
I have not seen Purdy play enough yet to offer an opinion on that question.
Purdy is infinitely better at his salary than Kirk is at Kirk’s salary.
That is why I stated it the way I did. There are some on here that claim Cousins could not go to the superbowl with the 9ers lineup.
Its difficult to say. If Cousins is in SF there’s about $39 mil worth of player cap space gone so the team would look very different in terms of personnel like Kittle, Armstead, Deebo, Williams, etc. would not all be on the team so its kinda hard to say. If Kirk were in SF on Purdy’s contract with that team its likely they make the SB, but its not possible.
They are going to be losing a lot of guys even with Purdy’s contract next year. They better get it done this year, but I fear the NFL will not miss out on the opportunity to have Swift on the stage after the game. Plus, if the Chiefs lose they risk losing all of those Swift fans.
All their high priced guys are under contract already, they only have like a couple mil in cap space but they can do a couple restructures and add pieces if needed.
I thought they had 4 or 5 guys due for big contracts this offseason plus guys who just got big deals that put them over the cap.
IDK, CMC, Deebo, Williams, Bosa, Warner, Aiyuk, Armstead, jsussksdkcheck, Kittle, all got extensions recently or are still under contract. The only guy I can think of that is of note as a FA is Kinlaw, who I think KAM will go after because he has a long injury history.
Yeah, I think it was more the current big contracts, the DE they just traded for and I thought they were considerably over the cap, but I haven’t actually looked because I don’t really care that much. Just what I’ve picked up on the radio to and from work.
Oh, yeah Young is a FA after the season, IMO he’s way overrated.
Ummm Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers agreed to a restructured one-year contract that made Garoppolo the highest-paid backup quarterback in the NFL in 2022. He counted over $26M against the cap that year. Trey Lance signed a four-year $34,105,275 contract that was fully guaranteed as well. Yet the Niners STILL brought in all that talent.
What do 2 players not on the 49ers and with 0 cap hit this year have to do with anything? At least Kirk was nice enough to make sure he’s an almost 30 mill cap hit in 2024 without even taking a snap on the Vikings. And before you scream GM! GM! GM!, it takes 2 to tango and Kirk could have done a differently structured deal but he knew KAM had no choice but to do something so he held a fully guaranteed, no tradeable gun to his head.
We were talking about how the Niners have great players because they have a QB on a rookie deal. They acquired those players while paying a lot for two other QB’s though.
Again you post false narratives, Jimmy’s cap hit in 2022 was 9 mil. You can read it here

Different commentary here:
Yeah, that article was from March, about 4 months before he restructured to stay in SF.
I feel that Kirko is a much better QB that Purdy.
I would like to have Purdy at his current pay vs Kirko at his pay though.
Why is the feature image a picture of Shaquille O’Neal throwing a football?
Ha!
Ben, should trademark “kumbaya klub”

I can see that being rage inducing. I like it.
Kumbaya Klub™, done
Led by Kumbaya Kev, of course.
Didn’t watch Senior Bowl. Some QB named Spenser Rattler? What kind of name is that? What happened to the John Smith”s of the world?
Spenser with 2 S’s is the real issue here.
Started his career at OU and played pretty well – was a Heisman favorite at one point. Then he was benched for Caleb Williams. Then transferred to South Carolina. Can make impressive throws and immediately follow it up with a boneheaded decision. I don’t hate the kid.
Can he play gourd?
Unlikely
Yep, he is definitely worth a 6th or 7th round pick.
Agreed. There’s talent there for sure. Numbers were down compared to when at OU and South Carolina was 5-7 last year….. but, he did beat two top 10 teams the year before, his 1st as a starter in Columbia.
Wish we could fast forward this QB crap.
Me too. FA is the first hurdle. Gotta find out what KAM’s QB plan is, then draft.
Really think this is KAM’s reset year at QB, and actually fiscally across the board. The Vikings have 27 free agents on the roster. Cousins will have to walk, because KAM can neither afford him, nor will Cousins sign a deal where KAM can trade him or cut him, at will.
I think so too.
Yep, KAM gets 2 more years because he is still paying for Cousins next year and then after that… really no excuses.
He was ok at OK, he has an attitude problem. Worth a late round flier I suppose.
I think he’s got a high upside. I’d also say worth a late round flier but I think he’s gone before the 6th.
I only saw him at OK, he seemed arrogant and entitled, maybe getting benched and transferring humbled him.
They all turned into Agent Smith’s
Key and Peele had a great skit with hyphenated names you couldn’t pronounce, then they slip in a white guy named John Smith. LMAO.
LOL
Good morning, SKOL!
FTP!
Toby Keith dead at 62 from stomach cancer…..
RIP
Saw that, that has to be such a tough thing to go through. Awful.
Saw that as well. He never did look like the healthiest guy, 62 is SUPER young. Sad.
I don’t know about SUPER young. Did he chew tobacco a lot, I wonder?
Im sure he did all the things aside from maybe hard drugs. Its not SUPER young, but still young.
I guess I consider anybody under 50 dying “young” but beyond that, you’ve lived half a century and you’re approaching average lifespan of around 74 in the US. There’s a lot bigger tragedies than dying at 62 with a life full of experiences.
I’m actually surprised he was that old, I thought he was younger, either way, RIP
RIP. My all-time fave song of his was “Starkissed” – a little ditty they made up for fun, never released for obvious reasons.
Too Funny!

I would even call it a mystery…except that today I downvoted just because.
Gotta get that street cred
Or did you mean Huns?
Yeah I meant Huns
twas a joke, just a reason to use the down vote
LOL
Looks like it will be.
Thanks for the street cred, guys.
