They will use this or some threat of unrest or actual unrest after they sentence Trump to jail time to suspend the election “to save democracy”. They’ve already made their test run in Ukraine and nobody has even acknowledged it so they will take that as a green light.

Absolutely gut wrenching that many of these men knew they would be dead when the boat wall came down and before they even hit land.
I have mentally put myself in that position and wondered how I would handle it.
The Army taught us that ‘training’ will see us do what needed to be done’.
Currently I am not sure how DEI or Pronoun training helps them get that job done.
I’m a little over halfway through “The Red Badge of Courage”, does a good job of narrating the ethereal experience of combat.

In both the Army and as a Peace Officer it was universally accepted that no ones how they will react until they face that life or death situation.
If you are well training and just react and follow your training the chances are much better that you will do the ‘right things’.
In the high stress situations I have found myself in I have found that to be true.
I try to review what my actions will be if an emergency happened during mundane situations…what if the patient slumps over during a thoracentesis?…what if someone starts choking in the restaurant?…what if someone keels over in the stands at a baseball game?…what if this truck crosses over into my lane head on?
Did a kidney biopsy on what turned out to be a RCC, was suspicious it would bleed, reviewed with my team beforehand what I would do…stream of blood came spurting out the diameter of the coaxial needle, everyone was prepared, went smoothly. Nice when things happen in a predictable fashion…not so nice when something unpredictable happens.
I of course am not saying equivalent to combat but I imagine front line soldiers, more and more as you move up the chain of command, do those same mental reviews as conflict approaches.
It was the same especially in prison. I would routinely imagine ‘what if’ when dealing with inmates.
We were trained to do that as it reduced response times if something ‘kicked off’.
High stress emergencies are very similar, anything that helps reduce the OODA Loop (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) has value.

Hyper vigilance. One of the big reasons law enforcement has one of the highest suicide rates of any profession.
Given the amount of things that can happen and go wrong ‘Hyper Vigilance’ is required.
Personally I think the Coping Techniques used by Officers contribute to the suicides, drinking, recreational and medicinal drugs, gambling, etc all pull them down. Adding in the stigma of trying to get help and being seen as weak or losing your clearance/right to carry on duty.
I don’t disagree, but that level of awareness and looking at every person you drive by and picturing them pulling a gun on you and you reacting is a lot. “Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement” is a pretty good book/resource on that front.
We had classes during annual training that lectured us on Stress.
Most officers zoned out or took a ‘bathroom’ break during it. They were’ too tough’ to acknowledge that it might be an issue.
Soothing music was my go to plus collage level tapes from the Great Courses. Everyone is different on what helps them.

They take former combat veterans back to battlefield sites where they fought to remember their fellow soldiers that didn’t make it home. Delta airlines provides the flights. They’ve got a group on the beaches of Normandy today. There are still people out there who take care of the ones who took care of us.
