McCarthy and Dallas Turner still haven’t signed their rookie contracts with the team. Seems odd, but it is becoming the norm now for the Vikings.
Just as an aside, NFL rookies must have signed a contract in order to show up and participate in training camp. Rookies can attend a minicamp or organized team activities without a contract, but they are not allowed to be part of training camp while still negotiating with their team. Looks like something will get done in the next 55 days. No way the Vikings let the rookies sit out training camp. Right?
The last of the Vikings OTA practices are scheduled for next Monday through Thursday (10-13 June). The practices aren’t open to the public, so we’ll not be seeing much, just getting some updates from the coaching staff probably.
They have better security than the sniffer admin.

You know according to his Dad ( Old Joe) Hunter is the smartest person he has ever met. Clearly BOD material or maybe a cabinet position.
Honestly, his lawyers are pitching the argument to the jury, that he’s not responsible for anything he ever did wrong, because he was a drug addict. That’s the defense. According to what I heard, every person on the jury has had experiences with people addicted to drugs. The argument just might work.

I think your point is spot on. If you can be excused for something because you were “under the influence”, we must no longer prosecute DUI’s and any death’s that result from them.
I’ve made this exact argument when people excuse shitty behavior let alone causing the death of someone while under the influence.
I worked with several former mental health patients that had caused the death of somebody directly or indirectly while under the influence of alcohol or narcotics (usually both) in several cases the state doctors made the argument that the drugs and alcohol brought on or exasperated a previously undiagnosed condition and therefore they were deemed NRRI – Not Responsible by Reason of Insanity.
They’ll most likely die as ‘patients’ of the state hospital as the MHB will likely never let them out. In a few cases these guys managed to avoid death row by these measures including Erwin Charles Simamts, known as Herb – one of Nebraska’s most notorious killers, behind only Charles Starkweather and Nikko Jenkins in regard to the notoriety of the crimes they committed. He ran the kitchen at the state hospital for years before he died – still the best patty melt I’ve ever had. Was a bookie inside the hospital known for taking big bets on college football from doctors and staff – and cleaning up.
We have subsidized people who shouldn’t even be walking the streets. Good luck America.

Hey VP, I have been gone a bit lately…how is the little guy doing?
He had a rough patch after the bone marrow transplant where he was retaining fluid around his lungs so they had to intubate him. After a few days they were able to extubate him, but he had real trouble shaking of the sedation medicine. He was having chills and hallucinations. However, on Wednesday he moved out of ICU back to a regular room and is doing much better. They called Wed night and I got a big “Hi, Far far!”. That was great to hear.
Keep praying for the best and and a total recovery. And it must be tough for his parents. All the best.

I only post this because I don’t think folks really get the impact of changing OC’s. Also, they really don’t get how hard it is for a rookie coming in. Learning the plays is only the tip of the iceberg, and everyone on the offense must master the playbook. It takes a lot of time for that to come together and gel, much less flourish.
Doesn’t Moore use a system built around the QB ‘winning’ from the pocket? This should be interesting.
Well he was the Dallas OC and McCarthy complained “all he wants to do is score points”. They were one of the highest scoring offenses in Dallas history, and McCarthy got rid of him. He was the Chargers OC last year, not sure why he left them. I think he’s a good OC, but will Hurts be able to run his offense?
True. Think DAK and Herbert are good pocket guys which work well with Moore’s system. Not sure that is Hurts’ strength.
Also think McCarthy needed cover and blamed the failures on the OC. Herbert got hut I believe.

Just got back from a few days at the beach. When I missed days the other day (5 versus 6 June) knew all this blogging was exhausting and I needed a mini vacation.
Had a unique thing happen. Ran into a couple from dickinson ND who were vacationing. Great people and we had several neat conversations. Hadn’t really run into people from ND before – small world.
Oh well, someone asked what to do with $ 1 million right now. Given all that’s going on, I’d buy a 180 day Tbill and then reevaluate.
Ben – sorry about job loss. You mention non profits. Were you in IT, or HR or Finance or Accounting – makes a difference?

I like Dickinson. Easy 90 minute drive for us and they have many of the key critical mass commercial businesses like Menards and WalMart. Of course, Dickinsonians covet the key critical mass businesses in Bismarck like Sams/Costco/Target.
when i leave bloomfield, it always feels nice when we reach dickinson as i feel the trip home has officially gotten underway and we are making good time..

I remember the build up of dread after passing Alexandria and approaching the Twin Cities. Was always so thankful to get onto hwy 52 and the relatively bucolic drive to Roch.

We came really close to deciding to return to Grand Forks after my residency and fellowship, which we would never have guessed after our first winter there. It was all about the people and relationships we had. Salt of the earth.
I grew up in central Illinois in a small town – very mid western. And although I spent most of adult live in DC, every time I talk to people from the heartlands I feel like I’m home again.
They did note the weather is a little ‘warmer’ down here, but they loved the beach and clearly were not liberal – far too much common sense for that.

In my world programming was part of on overall IS department. CEO from nonprofit to profit could be tricky. But a job of like Ops Manager could be possible to the profit world and any kind of IS job like Sr Programmer, Team Leader would work also. And the for profit world usually pays better.
For sure….I have been in the non profit world my whole career…my friends in the for profit world make a bit more cash….
I moved to a non-profit last year. My hourly wage is down from the profit world, but my benefits are up. More vacation, more holidays, etc.
Knew several guys that left profit world and went non profit for benefits and ‘having a life again.’
The place I’m at just added another holiday this past year. I can’t remember what day they added. I’m 1/2 time, but for all of the full time people, they work 4 9s (36 hours) per week and get paid for 40 hours.
Day 5 being unemployed, starting to get really restless, insulated and cleaned the garage, cleaned the house, mowed and did landscaping, applied for about 50 jobs, not sure what else to do.
Try to enjoy your free time, hope you can land a new job soon.
I’m preparing for a work related exam right now, which is why I’m AWOL most of the time. Sucks, but it’ll be over soon.

I work much harder, especially physically, when I am not doing my “real job”. It’s a bit of a mental illness, actually. Sounds like you are built from the same mold.
Full time, loss of roughly 80k per month with my company resulted in a few positions being eliminated.
I’m sorry to hear that. Losing a job is always tough on the constitution. You will come back stronger and happier.
Yep, eating a slice of humble pie, I had a clause in my employment agreement that if my employment was to be terminated I was to be given 3 months more of employment and then 3 months severance, the severance started Monday.
That reminds me… you could watch Severance if you are into slightly absurd horror comedy.

Funny, we just watched The Company Men a couple of weeks ago, the company offers outplacement services and severance. Ben Affleck and Tommy Lee Jones do a good job in that movie. For me, it resonated about finding your center with your family, and re-evaluating what makes you happy in your career.

I unexpectedly lost my job in December 2012.
I got 8 weeks pay to get us through the holidays.
Took a job just as the severance was winding down.
Then I found my current job a few months later.

the free time can be maddening.
I had an extended unemployment while recovering from several surgeries from incidents at my previous employer so I was covered via work comp and cobra. Frugal spender to begin with so I also had some savings. I rather enjoyed the 1st few months. Up early, read the paper and breakfast at VI 5 days a week.
Quickly ran out of things to do and started volunteering a few places but that also wasn’t enough to fill my days.
Hope you’re able to weather the storm so to speak.

The job market is crazy right now. My wife was looking for a job, everyone is hiring, but it takes weeks to get an interview or get an offer once you’ve had an interview.
Actually, the job market for US born citizens is terrible.
All of the latest job gains are mostly part time jobs, which include people working more than one job, twice.
Illegals are the ones gaining all of the jobs.
I guess I meant the hiring process is crazy. My wife would have like 5-10 interviews and then weeks later get the offers. She ended up taking a job and the next day got an offer for the job she wanted.

It’s pre-season and opinions are flying out of pundits mouths like water from a spigot. McCarthy has the physical talent to play the position, without a doubt. He can spin it. That’s the norm for a first round pick though. It’s all the rest of the stuff he has to learn to do, and master, that will determine how soon he will start.
Through the power of meditation, he’ll have the playbook fully memorized by the end of the month. Come training camp his winner attitude will shine and Kev will have no choice but to start him against the Gnats and get retribution for the playoffs 2 years ago while starting the first of many runs to January football.

We should think of him and his family today and pray for them. A few months after my first daughter was born I posted about it and how I had hoped for a son, but daughters were so much better, I didn’t know at that time what happened to his daughter and I felt awful.

LFA is still sulking on the sidelines, after telling us the DJIA was going under 20K and that he was advising all his clients to pull out of the market. I bet there have been some interesting shareholder meetings.
I still don’t understand how we can have stocks up over 24% 3 of the last 6 years (with a couple others of +16 and +10 currently) with almost no pullbacks (save for 2022). Huge stocks worth trillions are going up 100’s of percentage points a year and there seems to be no semblance of reason or reality to valuation now. I can’t say I see things ending well if this continues, but people have been saying that for a long time now.
I guess I shouldn’t complain if we’re making money, but with inflation out of control (not the ridiculously low numbers the government spouts), not sure if it’s a chicken or egg situation.
Our government poured trillions of new dollars into the economy. Think of how many people got and spent Biden bucks during the pandemic. Student loan forgiveness.

My stepdaughter was using the scan & go app at Sham’s Club a few weeks back and had put three of one item and two of another in her cart, for a total of five items. When she got to the door, the checkout person did the scan check thing and said you only paid for two items (one of each), but you have five items. She was totally flustered like how could I do this but the guy was nice about it, said it happens all the time.
Takes me back to my 8 year old self, one of the only times I ever saw my mom cry, we were in a German supermarket in Rastatt and I had been admiring some plastic army men in a bag that cost all of 1.50 DM. As Christmas was approaching, she put them in her purse so I wouldn’t see them in the cart. As we were leaving the store she got detained by security, I didn’t know what was happening but my dad told me to go sit in the car and they had a long discussion in broken Deutschlish about her true intentions. I think the security guard wanted to make an example of her and my father was arguing about the fact they had just spent over 300 DM on items, why steal some plastic army men? Then they wouldn’t tell me what had happened, I just knew my mom was crying and my dad had thunder face.

Went to a funeral yesterday. I haven’t been to a funeral of a veteran for quite a few years. That whole military roll call thing before taps makes cry….My friend had volunteered for the Marine Corp in 1965 right out of high school and served in Vietnam. I know we still have young men like that today….just seems like fewer of them.
