VIKINGS NEWS – Nothing until July 21

NFL News – FTP

Seriously, FTP

Tuesdays are Bash/Defend Kirko days. Have at it. I drank the Kool Aid in 2018, and by December of that year I was convinced he would never lead a team to a championship(he could be carried along like Trent Dilfer, but will never be the main reason a team wins. I feel his pay does not match performance). Pretty sure I am correct on that one, and now we have Sam Darnold and JJ to suck less of the payroll off the roster and the crazy genius Kwesi is building a championship caliber team. I approve.

Training camp is now about a month away. Saturday, July 27 is “Back Together Weekend” and Monday, July 29 will be the first padded practice for the Vikings. Still a long way to go till September, but we’re getting there.

I don’t need to watch it to know how it went. Biden will be all hopped up and incoherent, the “moderators” will interrupt Trump as often as they can and as long as Biden has a pulse afterwards and doesn’t fall asleep the media will rave about how great he did. Pretty sad that the president’s bar for a debate is that he lives through it.

1/2 the gag order on Trump is lifted.
Trump can talk about witnesses and jurors.
Trump is NOT allowed to talk about the Judge, prosecutors, staff and their families.
Not sure 1/2 a gag order is even constitutional.

Which means CNN and Joe can say whatever they want and Trump can’t respond.

Because it is KIRK TUESDAY.

Here is an article showing that KC is the 2nd best QB in the NFL when giving 2.5 seconds or more to throw the ball. CAN YOU SAY ELITE???

However, when throwing the ball in less than 2.5 seconds he does not crack the top 10.

I wasn’t thinking so much about Kirk.
For example, because of Tua’s concussions the Dolphins put together a system where he can and does get rid of the ball very quickly – most of the time.
The Rams, and Stafford, use a system much like ours that has deeper developing routes thus requiring QB hold the ball more.
The Lemar stuff is interesting but explainable. And other stuff here.
I was not suggesting you or anyone else was irrational. Rather when discussions turn to QB play, seems things lead eventually down ‘one’ road and then things get less rational.
WRT the Vikings – I have no idea if QB play will fall off much, or if the rest of the team is improved much.

I’m not saying we should or could have kept Kirk, but there’s really not that much more money to spread around to enhance other positions like people think. We are at the mercy of lucking out with draft picks, essentially, like a lot of what eventually becomes good teams.

DE Viking

Fair point.
I would argue that we paid Kirk a lot over 6 years and it didn’t help much. Time to try something different. Not saying it works. Just going younger at QB with a stud WR.

Thanks. And I agree – fine with trying something different. But people act like we’ll have all this money to throw around to upgrade different positions. To me, it’s same song, different verse; a lot of money tied up in a few people (just other people).

My other thought is that even if Kirk was overpaid, would that, let’s say $5 million/year that he was overpaid, have really enhanced the rest of the team that much to make a big difference? My inkling is no. So I wouldn’t blame the failures of the last several years squarely on him being overpaid. He played at a pretty high level IMO, and was not at the top of the list of team problems/failures.

Kinda defeats purpose of cap. Had we signed Kirk, new JJ contract and sign Darrisaw. You have a qb, wr and 2 tackles taking how much money? Bad math.

Not sure what you mean. I am not talking about resigning Kirk – I am talking about the past 6 years with Kirk. People make out his being overpaid to be the solitary reason our team didn’t win anything. It wasn’t even close to that. He may have been overpaid by 5 million per year for his “10-12” ranking status, but that certainly isn’t enough to move the needle on upgrading the rest of the team IMO (especially with what was needed).

In the first part, I am saying now, we have a ton of money tied up in Jefferson and possibly our tackles. Even if JJ is the best at his position, it doesn’t leave money for upgrading everything else (or necessarily keeping other good players). We need a lot more help than those 2 positions.

Everyone acts like Kirk was the only guy getting paid good money by position.
Just look at that play off game against the Giants. Aren’t Hunter and Z. Smith well played – they did nothing.
Kendricks – high paid LB. He looked like a lost dog out there.
H Smith – pretty well paid, missed a seasons worth of tackles.
And Peterson- don’t know what he was paid, but he was step slow all day.
All those players played like crap
And then Dalvin and JJ didn’t show up either. Think Dalvin was pretty well paid too.
ALL the players need to actually play.

Good math – 35 less than 45 but apples to oranges. And ten there’s they could have had Cousins last year for three years at 37 but all of that is water under the damn.
Question can you build a team around a WR being the highest paid player – not sure that has been done, but could be OK.
but as you say you have to hit draft picks regardless.

So why would any team pay big bucks for a QB if their play is not that important unless you run the ball and play defense?

Note playoff teams – these are not mutually exclusive.
OB play is important but come playoff time you need to run the ball some and play good defense.
Look at SB last year. Good QB play, both teams ran ball well and both defense only gave up 19 points in regulation..
And believe I said ‘ isn’t ALL that important’ without a running game and defense.

I think the connection between his brain and arm is slower than other QBs. Not bad, but noticeably average. He is better than average with pre-snap reads, the problem is NFL defenses disguise their coverages. If the time to throw was simply from longer routes, his average intended air yards would be above average and through 5 weeks it was not. He was in the neighborhood of some very meh QBs, a rookie and Mahomes who had nobody to throw to but Kelce and Mahomes scrambles a lot to up his average time to throw.

Perhaps so – two thoughts.
One – go back and listen to what Bosa said after the Niner game and Belichek after last year’s Pats game.
That aside, don’t we have presnap reads and then post snap reads (defenses usually change after snap now) and then our receivers adjust their routes post snap too. /would think by design of scheme that is going to require more time.

I’ve been paying attention to girls college running because of Parker Valby. She dominated at the D1 level. Last night she ran the Olympic trials, and it was interesting to see that next level of separation in talent. The pros buried Valby on the last lap like it was nothing to them.

What is more impressive is that the Africans would bury the ladies who won our Olympic trials even easier. I think the Africans are running 5Ks about 40 seconds faster than our best female athletes, so that means they would win by about 300 meters.

That is total domination.

It’s like the local parents who think their child is a wunderkind destined for the NBA or NFL based on their play in the MT class A league. Take those premier basketball skills to Rucker Park in Harlem.

Reminds me when I moved here 30+ years ago, people asked me if I played hockey. Where I come from, everyone “plays” hockey, but if you are a hockey player, those are the guys that come up to a rink where a dozen guys are playing pickup hockey, ask if they can join, skating in old torn leather Bauers and a stick with duct tape on the blade. You think you’re going to make a break down the right side, new player flips around and pulls in front of you skating backwards, stabs the puck off your stick, and immediately reverses direction going in for a seeing eye wrist shot. Turns out they were the points leader for the St. Albert Saints, played three seasons with the Kamloops Blazers. Hahahaaa…nope I don’t play hockey.

She has got a ton of marketing potential.

Yeah, like you said, she is only 21. St. Pierre is 28.

Valby is used to just grinding people down a the college level. Now she is facing people that have the grind AND kick. She needs to develop a better kick.

FloridaSKOL – there’s a pretty good hockey team in southern Florida I hear.

Yep, the Panthers are very good. Over the past few years, I have kinda started following the Tampa Bay Lightning, but, I will forever be a North Stars fan. Fuck Norm Green!

Still strikes me as strange Florida has two really good hockey teams – no ice anywhere.

A lot of northerners have moved down here and they love hockey.

Came that close…just ran out of gas at the end. Full credit to Florida, they have a well coached team and deserve the Cup.

Oilers will go one of two ways, either develop steely resolve and be right back there next year, or…the roster will be decimated this summer and it’ll be another couple of decades before they get back. I favor the latter.

Oh well, not many things will have me watching hockey on June 24th…it was great while it lasted!

Go Oilers Go!

You would rather ‘the roster will be decimated this summer and it’ll be another couple of decades before they get back’??

That’s what happened in 2006. Both McDavid and Draisaitl are on the last years of their contract. Bouchard will want to get paid.

I think the roster will look very different in September when the new season starts.
