VIKINGS NEWS – Nothing. Just over two weeks to training camp.
NFL News – FTP
Question of the Day – Will you be watching the Receivers show on Netflix? Comes out next Wednesday. I enjoyed the QB show, even with Kirko in it. I am looking forward to this. Between that show, and Hard Knocks adding more shows, I get some kind of football things to watch.
Media Selection
Here’s something interesting:
Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor were the only two QBs last year who had at least 50% of their third-down incompletions as a result of pass inaccuracy.
Daniel Jones (50%)
Tyrod Taylor (58%)

Most sacks allowed last year:
85 – Giants

31 – Lions, Dolphins
30 – Packers
28 – Chiefs
24 – Bills
Quite the spread.
From 85 sacks down to 24, even to 65 is significant if you toss out the Giants exceptionally bad 85.
It is quite the spread. Two of our Division opponents are in the top four, for lowest sack rate.

For 2024, here are the lightest projected offensive line units:
1. Dolphins
2. Vikings
3. Falcons
So the running game will suck again, unless the outside zone blocking works.
Dunno… this is KOC’s problem to solve. Miami did pretty well with their line last year (I think). Falcons line was ranked highly too.
Think anything around 300 is fine. Skill and quickness to come into play. Good with our tackles, IOL not sure.
Mike Shanahan used to use very light, athletic linemen to run the zone stretch play and had some of the most successful running teams in history.
Who projected this?
NFL Analyst named Brandon Thorn. He does analysis of different things that he puts in his annual OL Almanac.
Well if that’s the case we should be racking up 150 yards on the ground every week. Won’t need strong QB play.
These are the lightest O-lines in the NFL… not the best or anything. Only six teams allowed more sacks than Vikings last year.
I misread. Yikes lightest.
Lucky nobody was killed. Sounds like one person took one to the face and was hurt pretty bad though.
Nothing more American than missing your target and mortar striking civilians?
Who the F is this guy?
When I was working with the DivArty at Ft Carson nothing would get them in trouble more than hitting civilian houses near the base. But it still happened, 20+ miles range means a small error could equal a large miss.
I get that, but this guys “nothing more American than missing and striking civilians. Sounds like slap in the face to the military on the 4th of July.
I think it was a lame attempt at a joke or more likely he’s a lame ass pro-Hamas douche, but this was the only video of it that I could find now.
Yes it does – sort of a back handed cheap shot.
Well, with the incompetence of JB in the middle east stuff, or with O-bama drone striking American citizens, maybe that is something to do with it.
WTH – why is there all the red flags today?
Been zero for several days.
Will have to reload to see them.
What they downvote will give us a clue.
Just look who’s here… the He-man Cousins haters knitting club…
I ‘personally’ hate it. It reminds me of school days when you turned in a paper and you got it back with all the teacher’s red marks on it.
See absolutely no need for it.
Yes… it’s just the way blogs are though. I don’t worry about it, because we know it’s just haters hating.
I’ll do a thumbs up time to time, not down. I just move on.
Same
I don’t ‘worry’ about it – but it’s chickenshit. Disagree fine – openly, but the red mark………..
Oh… no doubt it’s chickenshit…
I just don’t refresh my page at all so I never see any of them.
All the red flags are in the ‘He who Should Not Be Named’ discussion.
That certainly suggests a few people who might be providing them.
Everyone says they don’t down vote, yet you have to be logged in to vote either way.
I have downvoted for two reason.
#1 Street Cred
#2 Personal attacks.
And those seem reasonable.
Ok, packers are here (not FTPs) and getting everything set up for the movers tomorrow.
They told us that we did more pre-move prep than anyone they moved before. Of course The Teacher gets the credit for that as that is who she is.
7 pick-up loads to the dump and 8 to donation. Plus various friends getting free stuff that we did need at the new place.
Congratulations! Just a few days until freedom.
Main concern is the mad dash on Sunday to Idaho 12+ hour trip.
Full pick up and CRV, lots of high desert and 110+ temps.
Everything checks out in advance with the vehicles but I will breath a huge sigh of relief once we get there.
we were lucky with Florida move. There’s a n. autotrain we took. Put cars on, got a sleeper and when we woke up were here.
110 plus temperatures is tough. Pray the vehicles come right thru.
The endzone is near.
Just don’t Pete Carroll it.
Stupidest call in SB history.
OK, SCMF. endzone is ‘near.’
Fluids and tire pressure mostly. AC puts a load on too. Get out of Dodge SC.
I never use my A/C unless The Teacher is in the truck.
On this trip especially I would rather be uncomfortable and make it than not.
Hand touch wheel hubs once in awhile to see if hot. Always did pulling boat to Canada.
And if they are hot to the touch?
Just let them cool or get them checked before they become a big problem?
Make sure your lugs are properly torqued and check your brakes. On a trailer, typically hot hubs means no grease and you’re risking losing an axle.
Thought you were pulling something. Couple small breaks on way should be fine. What time heading out?
No trailer involved.
We expect 3 stops maybe more to pee and for gas.
I told The Teacher the ‘earlier the better’. She suggested 4am but I will be happy with 7. So goal is ‘oh dark 30’ but I expect closer to sunrise.
The more we get thru before the temps get to triple digits the better I suspect.
I like leaving late afternoon/early evening. Then make a pit stop somewhere for a power nap and get back on the road before the sun comes up. When I make the drive to Minnefornia I like to be in Fargo around sunrise.
Have done that before. With 2 vehicles and two drivers it is more problematic.
The Teacher can do 12+ hrs ok but sleeping in car, not so much.
I’m the opposite.
I will get up at 3am to drive it in one day. Used to do that from MI to DE and back.
I’m usually packed ahead of time enough and hate sitting around. 5 o’clock rolls around and the pickup is packed I don’t see the point of sitting on the couch when I could be driving and I have a hard time going to sleep if I am leaving early the next day. I’ll just lay there and try to think about what I forgot so I’d rather just get on the road.
Fluids and tire pressure where both checked by professionals earlier this week.
This trip I won’t trust that to amateurs like me.
Yeah.
It’s always a concern on that long of a ride.
All you can do is plan what you can plan, and just take stuff as it comes.
‘Men plan and the gods laugh’.
But ‘The best I can do is the best that I can do’.
” Men plan……..” ain’t that the truth.
Awesome SoCal… really great work, and happy you’re almost across the finish line!
Once everything is moved and in Idaho I can relax.
There will still be a ton of work to do but time, planning, coordination, etc will be done.
Mindless work is one of the things I excel at.
Sniffer say he was a black woman and Ho, ho, ho. Happy Independence Day?
Pretending to Ad Lib a joke?
I assume that was what was on the teleprompter.
I know his gaffe library is huge.
Why can’t he be a black women? He’s been about every nationality on the planet.
Gender change is new.
Maybe he figures if he transitions into the 1st black, female, president then that will get him re-elected.
True, I never thought of this idea.
Plus being a DEI hire will take off any pressure for ‘it’ to do anything competently.
Desperate times, desperate measures.
WW1?
He’s not a good enough man to have been accepted then.
I think he was one of the troops that charged up Cemetery Hill.
He doesn’t have the guts for that!
He fight for North or South? Both prob.
There’s a reason I said he charged the hill and not defended it.
Him and word salad most comical thing i’ve ever heard.
He might lie behind some rock at the top but there is no way in hell he is walking that mile and a half up that hill
No. Civil war on the confederate side.
He bragged about DE being a slave state back in 80’s.
Wow… just wow. Looks like he caught himself and stopped… he can’t help but lie.
Is it a lie if you don’t remember what the truth is?
Touche’
I took the day off, but decided to look at my work laptop anyway. Big mistake. Lots of email’s from across the pond… bother.
Lots of Drama in Euro Land.
French Elections, Intel on attacks on bases, Olympics coming up.
All of that is on my plate… several meetings tomorrow and Sunday.
Enough going on that Ukraine is almost on the back burner, news-wise anyway.
Then try to ‘enjoy’ today. Tomorrow’s work will be there when you get there.
Just got off a call. Everything is tamped down for now. Gonna watch some golf.
“Even with Kirko in it”. He was probably the best part of the show IMO.
I think Cousins was great, and maybe the best line in the show came from Julie when she said “oh I forgot, it’s trash night” as they were pulling into the driveway after the loss to the Giants. So poignant.
Mahomes was the best part of the show. Champions showing how hard they work.
Kirk is a good guy, and a good QB.
Mahomes is a champion.
Kirk was likeable and enjoyable in the show, and I personally learned the most about him and enjoyed his content the most. So to imply that he in some way ruined (or might have ruined) the show is a little KDS-ish for me. I thought the disclaimer “even with Kirko in it” was a little off-base.
Was a little strange. Kirk was the ‘Vikings QB” that year and we won 13 games. And it’s not like our defense or running attack carried that team.
Nice to see the Vikings and one of its players get national recognition.
Got to see one guy prepare for a SB and one guy take long walks and leave the show early.
And prepare a shelf for a trophy he likely will never acquire because he chases money.
Wouldn’t you? Wouldn’t we all?
Maybe he couldn’t get an off-the-record payment plan like Brady did for NE (through endorsements, events, gym stuff, and whatever) so he could get paid less for his NFL salary but still make tons of money (or maybe he just doesn’t need the money because his wife is a highly-paid supermodel). Anyhow, hypocritical, because I think it’s highly probable you would try to get more money too, especially if you think your skill is worth it.
Of course I would.
But I have never publicly stated, “It’s not about the money” or “I want to retire a Viking”, trying to win over the fanbase.
Ummm he took less money to come to the Vikings, offered less money to stay with the Vikings, and you sit here and say shit like this.
Some people have their minds made up and won’t change (me included, sometimes), but I like to give Kirk credit. What’s he going to say, anyway? “I don’t want to come back unless the Vikings pay me what I’m worth” or hold out until he gets a contract he wants? Then he’s a baby and everyone hates him. I don’t know what these people expect. Some of it is politics, even if it isn’t fully true, you have to support the team and say the right things.
Yes, denigrate Cousins at all costs. The KDS rallying cry.
Yeah, it really is interesting. The hate trumps all logic or understanding.
And sometimes circumstances simply change.
There are not mutually exclusive
Penix might get him one. The backup still gets a ring.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Yeah, you’re right. It’s going to be really hard for Penix to get one with JJ winning all of them for the next 20 years.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Doubt all you want Thomas. Eventually you will see the light.
If you don’t junx it with all the hot air talk.
The overwhelming negativity will jinx it before the positivity does and create a self fulfilling prophecy. JJ transcends all that is known of football and will usher in an era of Vikings football that causes us to merely remember everything prior to 2024 as the before times when we were lost in the desert.
I would say, in about 3 years, McCarthy will begin to shine, and in about 5 years he’ll reach Cousins level.
He’ll have them competing for a playoff spot this year (likely only competing because Darnold will dig a hole the first couple of weeks) and they’ll be competing for a SB spot next year.
Wanna bet?
Go ahead and keep hating. JJ will surpass the non-accomplishments of previous few Vikings QBs in no time. Quick success is not as outlandish as you pretend. If he is the guy for the next 20 years, it will be obvious quickly. Stroud got the freaking Texans in the playoff hunt in year one. Burrow took the Bengals to the SB in his second full year as the starter. Mahomes was year 3 as the starter I believe to the SB. Hurts, year 2 to the SB. If JJ is the guy, they will be in the NFCCG at least within 2-3 years. If it takes 5 years to see what he is, then he isn’t the guy.
I’m not hating Bow. Just being honest and realistic, J.J. will take years to get to where Cousins was. That’s the truth. You can’t handle the truth.
If it takes 5 years, it’s not going to happen. You’re arguing a faulty point if you look at recent history. He won’t be MVP year one or two, but if he is going to be successful, it will be obvious by year two as the starter, whether that’s 2025 or 2026.
I’m telling you J.J. has a very long way to go to get to Cousins level.
Then he’s not the guy. If it takes him 5 years to get to a level where they make the playoffs once every 4 years and only win one playoff game every 5-7 years, then they will be drafting another QB in 2028 or 2029.
Hope he gets some playing time. If he’s Ponder 2.0 need to know.
I think he will one way or another. If he shows he’s ready in training camp I expect him to start. Otherwise Darnold will likely Darnold and JJ will be starting by midseason.Even if they win games but you’re getting Mullens level interceptions, it’s JJ time.
I personally put little weight in training camp or preseason games for that matter.
Then there’s our schedule. Darnold could play his ass off and we could easily start 1-6.
Would you bench Darnold then, even if he is playing really well.
If he’s playing well then no. I think it will come down to what KOC sees in practice and it’s Sam’s job to lose. It isn’t set in stone and JJ has a legit shot. If they are even equal, then start JJ. He’s the future, not Sam.
Would say at this point – the future is to be determined.
If as you say it’s Sam’s job to lose, then he’s the QB until he loses it – and that might just be a long time.
For all we know, now in the right situation he might be the next Drrew Brees or something.
Two hopeful candidates are better than one.
Bow… the QB has not been the reason this team did not achieve great heights. The QB was very good. The running game, the defense, and special teams were bad. That’s why the team wasn’t great. J.J. isn’t going to be great for a while. Maybe never, but I think he’ll end up being good.
QB play might not have been the biggest problem, but it was the answer either. The greats are great and it’s not even an argument. If there is even an argument, then that’s your answer.
That’s a nice saying – not the answer.
Cousins is not great for sure.
but there has never been a great QB that won all that much without a a fair amount of talent around him.
Bow, Cousins was in the top 4 of the league in TD production during his time here. THAT wasn’t enough. The team was bad. Accept it.
Good QBs overcome. No matter what they do personnel wise, the Chiefs will always be in the conversation for the SB because they have Mahomes.
Good QB’s no – the most talented to ever play, perhaps. And it helps to have a HOF head coach and a DC that has won four SB.s
If Reid is such a big reason they have won 3 SBs with Mahomes and Mahomes is just lucky to have him, how come Reid didn’t win a SB in the 18 years prior to having Mahomes as his QB? Did he just happen to learn how to build a team all of a sudden and coincidentally when Mahomes started playing?
Even with consistently shitty roster construction, the Packers made the NFCCG almost every year (or at least often enough it feels like it was every year) with Rodgers. You have to have a team better than a DII school obviously, but the QB makes a difference unless you build a team like the Ravens did with Flacco. Even then, they got all time play in the playoffs out of Flacco and barely won some playoff games.
And now so you choose as an example – the second most talented QB of all time.
YOU started this by saying a GOOD QB. And then use as examples the two most talented QB ‘s of all time.
Semantics dude, chill. If great makes you feel better than fine, great. I don’t know that I’d call Hurts and Burrow greats, but they are still good enough to have their team in contention and go to a SB pretty damn quick. Sorry I didn’t give you a key to the Great/Elite/Good/Piss Poor QBs in this context. You get the point but instead of actually arguing the facts I laid out you choose to argue about irrelevant semantics.
You chill dude – you stsrted this with good QB’s overcome. I said no to that.
Then said Mahomes and Rogers. And I pointed out the two best ever.
And I’d say Burrow is far better than good – but was lucky as hell to get to that SB. M ahomes had to play the worst half of football of his life for that. Still he’s better than good.
Hurts – we’ll see if he’s real or a one hit wonder
Now, this ain’t my first rodeo either and I don’t appreciate the sarcastic back handed bullshit. And if it makes you feel better crap……
You knew what I meant and decided to argue the semantics of me typing good instead of great. I said good while talking about Mahomes. In this context there is good, bad, and meh. The good ones are obvious and will be contenders no matter what is going on around them. The team is important, yes, but the good ones overcome. The bad are obviously bad and the meh need a once in a decade team around them and the best play of their careers to have a shot.
No I did not know what you meant.
HOF QB’s are quite different than even very good ones. This is not semantics.
Even HOF QB can only carry a team so far. And very good ones somewhat less.
And there is a difference between meh and very good.
I DIDN”T say Reid was the big reason!
You said a good QB – I said no.
I then said the greatest QB of all time might some, but it sure helps to have a HOF HC .
NLNKF has repeatedly and fine, great QB. Good QBs rarely win the SB. Great QBs are in contention every year. The best Kirk could hope for is a Flacco-esque run which would have been his first year in Minnesota if it was going to happen. The team was good enough to get the NFCCG with Case Keenum. Teddy was in the same tier until his knee imploded, but at least he was young and still ascending. Atlanta doesn’t have that team either. The Vikings have hope of having a great one now and no matter how much of a team game it is, the team talent is heavily weighted to QB play.
NLK said – so what.
Now I can’t speak for Kirk, but if I could be him here is what I would hope for:
When we played the Giants, HSmith, ZSmith, Hunter, Kendricks would actually not play like complete dogshit. Not just bad, dogshit bad.
And then a couple of my offensive buddies, like delvin and JJ, would actually show up.
Nope Kirk cannot carry a team, but it would be nice if he had just a little help.
Bow, that’s just not true. No QB can overcome his teams shortcomings on his own. No QB has ever “carried a team” to Championships. That just fairy tale hero worship bullshit.
You’re right. Andy Reid just all of a sudden learned how to coach and build a team 5 years ago. Simply ignore the 18 years before that.
Andy Reid built a Championship team, then Mahomes came in.
Mahomes is a great QB, on a great team, with a HoF head coach.
Yeah, obviously because they won with Alex Smith and the team has not changed thus the reason they keep winning. At least they haven’t lost their #1 WR or anything like that and played with no true #1.
The offense did suffer when Tyreek Hill left. Mahomes numbers went down. But the offense since Mahomes has been there has primarily been built around the running game and Kelce. Much like Romo and Whitten, Mahomes almost exclusively looks for Kelce when he needs a play, and Kelce is so great he routinely obliges.
And they just won the SB without a WR good enough to be better than #3 on the Vikings.
And a legit running game. And a defense that had just started eight rookies the year before. Shut down the Ravens and Niners well.
Think the key is a good to very good QB and balance. Purple seem to fail.
If it takes JJ 5 years to figure out that you need to throw past the sticks (or run) on 4th and 8, both the GM and head coach will be fired for making a bad pick.
4th and 18
What negativity are you talking about?
Look Bow… let’s deal with reality here. McCarthy has years of development ahead of him before he will be really good.
Interestingly enough, if you watched the show, Cousins did more work than Mahomes did. The reason Mahomes is a “Champion” is because he has a HoF head coach, and a HoF Tight End, and a great team. The one year his O-line ended up injured, he was not great in the Super Bowl, only put up 9 points, and lost handily. Great teams win Championships.
Agree.
Not sure why people get all excited about some guys personal life.
95% of america takes out the trash and we get zero credit for it.
Don’t know. Would guess about 95% of public likes to see professional athletes ( and other prominent people) in their private lives and see they are pretty normal like everyone else.
I guess that makes me one of the 5%.
Nice to see that everyone puts on their pants one leg at a time.
You like watching people put their pants on?
No kink shaming I guess.
#grin
Mostly women, but when a guy gets ‘too big for his britches’ worth seeing.
Women taking their pants off is more interesting to me.
Guys, would rather not see them pants less going on or off.
there’s some strange ‘guys’ around nowadays.
If seeing a pro athlete having to grocery shop and take out the trash is inspiring to some, I admit, I don’t get it.
Not the point – it’s not that they are ‘inspiring’ , more that they are real people, not gods or something.
Best effort at explaining today.
Like I said.
I don’t get why seeing Kirk take out the trash makes them “more real like me”. Most humans deal with trash every day. Hearing Kirk do it, doesn’t make it interesting to me.
It’s because you’re a Cousins hater and we all know it. The point was he was coming off a terribly disappointing loss, and “oh yeah it’s trash night”. Real life comes into the picture, and shows everyone has the same things to deal with no matter what.
You can’t understand the irony, we get it.
Different people different feelings.
Doubt Trump, Biden or Lebron take out the trash. Kirk does, and as I mention below, Joe Gibbs was a guy that did.
That says something to me, if it doesn’t to you – that’s OK too.
It’s to show they’re still down-to-earth somewhat, and not conceited, out-of-touch a**holes like many rich people/celebrities. Most people will admit they like seeing this, versus the latter.
They can ‘show’ anything they want if the follow the script.
Not my cup of tea but you do you.
True, but some of that stuff is hard to fake. I like to think most people can see through BS, at least somewhat.
Golf talk (ignore if you would like).
I have been struggling for a few years now – distance is down and too many wasted shots.
I made one small tweak to my swing and now distance is much better and nearly always making solid contact. Shot an 87 yesterday on a difficult course, 2 birdies and lots of pars – a few doubles because my putting sucked, good have easily shot an 82.
I am so excited, but I know enough to know that once you think you’ve figured something your game sometimes really goes to hell, but I will remain optimistic.
I always enjoy hearing about your adventures, I just filter the ‘golf’ part out.
I assume it is like bowling, if you make a adjustment your game will suffer in the short term while you practice and the change becomes 2nd nature.
Strategy is different talking about a different swing or grip.
It’s the ‘good shots’ that give us hope which keeps b ringing us back.
Golf is a fickle mistress and we must accept the good with the bad. Can never tame the beast.
Hey NoDak, glad to hear you found a little something that brought back some distance and solid contact, and you had a very good round. As JR said, golf is a fickle mistress, and it’s always going to challenge us. I hope this tweak is a keeper though and you have many, many good rounds to come.
Thanks man! me too, I play again on Sunday, that should help determine if the tweak is for real.
I am still in no danger of breaking 90 this season.
I had hopes a few months ago, but between the constant rain and work being work, I am not golfing enough to improve.
As I have said more than a few times here, if you don’t kill or maim anyone on the course, it’s a good day.
You gotta admit, it’s more fun when you are playing better.
It is indeed. Those rare rounds when you’re suddenly smashing the ball off the tee, hitting your irons solid, and putting well, are always the most enjoyable. But for me, golf is a social event, and I like being out there just enjoying the day, and taking the game as it comes.
For me, I like it best when no one is out there – just me and the golf course – nature at its best.
Then we have a contest to see who is going to win today.
I shot two rounds of 79 in my life (when I was a much younger man), I see from the internet (so it has to be true) that only 2 to 5% of golfers every break 80. I feel so superior now.
A 79 is awesome. I can do that. Then on the back 9 I really turn it on!
OK Lifer!
You know, Lifer amazed me. He had custom fit, top-shelf clubs, practiced on a simulator every day, and did brain training and mental exercises, and he still couldn’t break 90. But he would give all the advice in the world on golf.
Yea, made me wonder if it was sometimes just for show and something to talk about.
His politics were crappy but he seemed to have a good heart.
QOTD:
I will not watch the Receivers show. I try to limit my football to the games and message boards, lest I overload.
I have not watched QB so I doubt that I will watch Receivers.
I thought QB was good except for Mahomes wife. She bugs me for some reason.
She bugs most people.
I agree with Wrenage, I mostly just watch the games, although I do watch the morning show on the NFL network during the season……..unless the Vikings are sucking, then I am not itnerested.
Agreed.
Much harder to stay engaged if the Vikings suck.
Will still follow them just not be as emotionally invested, it is a defensive reaction due to PTSD.
Get ready to be engaged for the next 20 years. There is going to be so much talk about the Vikings and JJ you’re going to get tired of it.
Watching America’s Game, the Story of the 1991 Redskins on the NFL Network.
Good morning, SKOL, FTP, and FJB!
Good team but felt the 83 team was better although it lost the SB.
83 team was very good. Huge disappointment losing to the Raiders in the Super Bowl though. I mean… 38 to 9???? Yeah.
Gibbs is a pretty impressive person. How many people are champions and in the Hall of Fame for more than one professional sport?
He is impressive. A guy whose work ethic took him to the top in two sports.
Won 3 SB’s with three different QB’s and has won few hundred races with many different drivers. Good leader and really knows how to put a team together.
May have mentioned to you during his second stint with skins, used to run into him frequently in a coffee shop we both visited really early in the morning. Real nice guy to talk with.
Gibbs is about as down to earth as they come. I’ve never met him, but boy, I’d like to.
Ah yes, the team you are an actual fan of. Lovely. Should still be called the Redskins imo
