Jason Day shot 5 under par today, and barely budged on the leaderboard. Tied for 22nd at the moment. Might be all the way back at 30th when the day is done.

Gonna follow Jason Day’s round online today. He’s in 30th place, and has zero chance to contend, so I hope he goes full on “bombs away” and tries to knock down every pin.

So, one thing some rookie QB’s face, is a coach who isn’t willing to adjust their schemes to the player they drafted. Kyle Shanahan recognized RGIII had zero ability to run a pro offense, and set about taking the Baylor playbook and implementing it for Griffin. The playcalls, the verbiage, everything was transitioned so Griffin could play in the NFL. The fundamental pass play calls, were one read throws, then take off running if it wasn’t there. It worked in Griffin’s rookie season until the end of the year, when defenses started clobbering him.

The question I have is, will KOC adjust the offense, and build it to support McCarthy, or will he insist McCarthy master the offense as designed, and build his skills to run it? The early comments from KOC that McCarthy wouldn’t start until he’s ready, imply he isn’t changing his offense to suit McCarthy.

Isn’t there a little more to it than this.
First, when RGlll first tweaked his knee, Cousins came in and ran ‘that’ offense just fine.
When RGlll came back, not quite as fast, but still faster and quicker than any of our QB’s.
Then there’s the defensive factor. Believe it started with the Giants. They simple rushed their DE’s wide and forced RGlll to stay in. the pocket and best them. He couldn’t do it and thus the beginning of his demise.
Our team. If we’re going to run simple single reads and more roll outs, why waste all the money on expensive receivers. Build up the lines instead.

Cousins was always a better pure QB than Griffin. He could run an offense and beat defenses with his arm, because he wasn’t a running QB. He studied the position, practiced the fundamentals, and also studied his opponents defense. Griffin was a great athlete. He wasn’t a great QB.

Our offense doesn’t have to be reduced to just one read throws, because I have seen McCarthy make some excellent second level reads and throws. But NFL defenses aren’t college defenses. He will throw more interceptions than TD’s if the scheme isn’t simplified some, and timing routes and one read throws aren’t more heavily incorporated for McCarthy.

OK if he throws more interceptions. It’s part of the learning process and seems like quite a few very good QB’s going through that phase. I’m for let him learn the “full” offense and accept there is going to be a learning curve. Don’t think you learn by avoiding the difficult.

I know, rookies are going to rookie, but my point is a smart OC sets his QB up to succeed, and builds on that success. No rookie is coming in and running a scheme like KOC’s right off the bat.

Regarding Khyree Jackson’s contract dollars, he signed a four-year $4.85M contract, including a signing bonus of $827,148.

The bonus amount was paid and is the only guaranteed portion of the contract.

As to the non-guaranteed salary for this year and beyond, the Vikings aren’t on the hook to pay it, but many fans think they “should do the right thing” and honor the contract, giving the money to his family.

Anyone think that will happen?

This is a tragic situation, however, I disagree with the “many fans”. How is it the right thing to give his family $4 million? No services were provided. This is just more giving away someone else money because of “feelings”.

Agreed. It IS a tragic situation, but why should the Vikings just give away $4 million? All about the “feels..”

And, as tragic as that accident is, the Vikes will need to find a replacement for Jackson, that money will be needed.

Why would it be “doing the right thing” to simply “give” the money away?
Now since they got nothing for his services, they could ask for bonus back, but that wouldn’t be right either.

They could ask, but it’s already been paid, and it was the guaranteed money on the contract, so no way they could recover it. I agree, that nothing more will be, or should be paid.

It depends on if the Vikings honor the base salary for 2024. But you are correct that the prorated signing bonus was $827k.

Whatever May be paid out to the family won’t count against the salary cap. You can’t write a check to a person who dies, and is sadly no longer an employee of the Vikings.
So it comes out of the Wilfs pocket.

In non- rookie contracts that is the case at times but rookie contracts are fully guaranteed. The signing bonus is just cash up front that is prorated for cap purposes. Will the nfl accelerate that like normal now or give them a break?

Not sure I understand this.
If a player signs a contract today, guaranteed or not, and dies of a heart attack tomorrow – do his heirs get anything?
I would think this is about getting cut, not dying or being totally incapacitated from other than a football injury.

Yeah JR, this gets sketchy to me too. I know when a player signs, they get their guaranteed money that’s in the form of a signing bonus, up front. Therefore, it’s in their bank account, and I don’t think it’s “recoverable” by the team. Could be wrong for sure.

Well you do have all that hot air from a certain part time inhabitant of your state.

We’ve been camping for the Holiday weekend. Beautiful campsite, but it has been very hot and humid. I’m sweating like a pig.

We’ve been camping too, only in Northern Minnesota (Bemidji), so temperatures have been good but some showers still happening.

Yeah. At my age, sweating like a pig is not fun.

Mostly sunny and 78 here in Western Wisconsin. Maybe we will dry out a little today. We’ve had close to 3 inches of rain in the last 2 days.

Forecast is for 114 here today.
We have the garage fridge full of water/drinks for the movers but we have already been warned that they will take frequent breaks throughout the day.

Once they are loaded and gone we will organize and load the CRV and Tacoma and get everything set up for a early start Sunday. The Teachers BFF will come for washer/dryer this morning before movers get here.

It is happening finally.

So far so good.
Have a spectacular bruise along the top of my foot.
Doesn’t hurt though or bother me when I walk, I will call that a win.

Man, hope that bruise continues to be a nothing burger. You have worked a long time for this, and we’re all cheering for you. So glad you’re getting out of that State, and into a much better situation.

Today will be hot and complicated but not much actual work for me until tonight when we pack out vehicles for the final time.

Tomorrow I just have to sit on my butt and drive, I can do this.

I feel like a minion.
Actually more like a ‘rented mule’, it as been a hectic month.

Running as fast as these old legs will carry me.
The hard part is trying to be smart about it while I am doing it.

7-8 years of long term research/decisions.
8-9 months of planning and organizing.
8-10 weeks of work to make it all come together.

We are only interested in getting there safe.
As long as it takes, that is how long it will take.
No speed records this trip.
