VIKINGS NEWS – Sad news. CB Khyree Jackson died in an auto accident
NFL News – FTP
To SoCal
Jason Day shot 5 under par today, and barely budged on the leaderboard. Tied for 22nd at the moment. Might be all the way back at 30th when the day is done.
Pitch and put coarse.
Darrell Green at 64 years old…
Gonna follow Jason Day’s round online today. He’s in 30th place, and has zero chance to contend, so I hope he goes full on “bombs away” and tries to knock down every pin.
So, one thing some rookie QB’s face, is a coach who isn’t willing to adjust their schemes to the player they drafted. Kyle Shanahan recognized RGIII had zero ability to run a pro offense, and set about taking the Baylor playbook and implementing it for Griffin. The playcalls, the verbiage, everything was transitioned so Griffin could play in the NFL. The fundamental pass play calls, were one read throws, then take off running if it wasn’t there. It worked in Griffin’s rookie season until the end of the year, when defenses started clobbering him.
The question I have is, will KOC adjust the offense, and build it to support McCarthy, or will he insist McCarthy master the offense as designed, and build his skills to run it? The early comments from KOC that McCarthy wouldn’t start until he’s ready, imply he isn’t changing his offense to suit McCarthy.
Isn’t there a little more to it than this.
First, when RGlll first tweaked his knee, Cousins came in and ran ‘that’ offense just fine.
When RGlll came back, not quite as fast, but still faster and quicker than any of our QB’s.
Then there’s the defensive factor. Believe it started with the Giants. They simple rushed their DE’s wide and forced RGlll to stay in. the pocket and best them. He couldn’t do it and thus the beginning of his demise.
Our team. If we’re going to run simple single reads and more roll outs, why waste all the money on expensive receivers. Build up the lines instead.
Cousins was always a better pure QB than Griffin. He could run an offense and beat defenses with his arm, because he wasn’t a running QB. He studied the position, practiced the fundamentals, and also studied his opponents defense. Griffin was a great athlete. He wasn’t a great QB.
Our offense doesn’t have to be reduced to just one read throws, because I have seen McCarthy make some excellent second level reads and throws. But NFL defenses aren’t college defenses. He will throw more interceptions than TD’s if the scheme isn’t simplified some, and timing routes and one read throws aren’t more heavily incorporated for McCarthy.
OK if he throws more interceptions. It’s part of the learning process and seems like quite a few very good QB’s going through that phase. I’m for let him learn the “full” offense and accept there is going to be a learning curve. Don’t think you learn by avoiding the difficult.
Tell that to C.J. Stroud
There’s always an exception. And Stroud played for a college offense that passed the ball a lot.
Check out P. Mannings numbers first year or so.
I know, rookies are going to rookie, but my point is a smart OC sets his QB up to succeed, and builds on that success. No rookie is coming in and running a scheme like KOC’s right off the bat.
First team to have rookies report for training camp this year will be the Ravens. They start on 13 July, in 6 days.
Regarding Khyree Jackson’s contract dollars, he signed a four-year $4.85M contract, including a signing bonus of $827,148.
The bonus amount was paid and is the only guaranteed portion of the contract.
As to the non-guaranteed salary for this year and beyond, the Vikings aren’t on the hook to pay it, but many fans think they “should do the right thing” and honor the contract, giving the money to his family.
Anyone think that will happen?
This is a tragic situation, however, I disagree with the “many fans”. How is it the right thing to give his family $4 million? No services were provided. This is just more giving away someone else money because of “feelings”.
I was just reading some responses to this, and there seems to be a strong contingent that “feels” this would be the right thing to do. Dunno why.
If people feel so strongly that his family needs help after this tragedy then they should pony up their own money to help out.
Agreed. It IS a tragic situation, but why should the Vikings just give away $4 million? All about the “feels..”
And, as tragic as that accident is, the Vikes will need to find a replacement for Jackson, that money will be needed.
Why would it be “doing the right thing” to simply “give” the money away?
Now since they got nothing for his services, they could ask for bonus back, but that wouldn’t be right either.
They could ask, but it’s already been paid, and it was the guaranteed money on the contract, so no way they could recover it. I agree, that nothing more will be, or should be paid.
It was merely a strawman to point out giving it all away wasn’t right either.
All of the contract is guaranteed since it’s a rookie deal. The signing bonus is simply the money he got up front.
Under contract law doesn’t there have to be ‘ consideration ‘ from both parties. Not met in this case.
That’s not right according to what I read Bow. The signing bonus of $827,148.was paid and is the only guaranteed portion of the contract.
It depends on if the Vikings honor the base salary for 2024. But you are correct that the prorated signing bonus was $827k.
Whatever May be paid out to the family won’t count against the salary cap. You can’t write a check to a person who dies, and is sadly no longer an employee of the Vikings.
So it comes out of the Wilfs pocket.
In non- rookie contracts that is the case at times but rookie contracts are fully guaranteed. The signing bonus is just cash up front that is prorated for cap purposes. Will the nfl accelerate that like normal now or give them a break?
Sorry Bow, that’s just not right. Guaranteed money varies, with higher-round picks receiving more of what they signed for.
NFL contracts are well beyond me. But in all other endeavors with employment contracts, you must be at minimum present (available) for duties or work.
This seems strange.
Here’s the Over the Cap breakout of Packers rookie Jacob Monk.
You’ll note the following:
Contract Value: $4,321,616 ($1,080,404 APY)
Fully Guaranteed Money: $301,616
Not sure I understand this.
If a player signs a contract today, guaranteed or not, and dies of a heart attack tomorrow – do his heirs get anything?
I would think this is about getting cut, not dying or being totally incapacitated from other than a football injury.
Yeah JR, this gets sketchy to me too. I know when a player signs, they get their guaranteed money that’s in the form of a signing bonus, up front. Therefore, it’s in their bank account, and I don’t think it’s “recoverable” by the team. Could be wrong for sure.
Thanks. Can understand signing bonus but after that not so much.
Now if a player broke his neck actually playing, could understand further compensation of some kind.
Mid round picks are not fully guaranteed unless they agree to it.
$827k is the only fully guaranteed part of Jackson’s contract.
No, only first round pick contracts are guaranteed and include a 5th year option, the rest only have bonus guaranteed
Not for mid round picks.
The only guaranteed is whatever was agreed to, and only the signing bonus was fully guaranteed in this contract.
I think the right thing for Minnesota to do would be to pay for funeral and burial/cremation costs.
Unless he wasted the guaranteed money that was already given him, the family should have plenty of money to take care of their own. If I die shortly after I get a new job, my family would not expect the company to pay me anything except what I had earned.
I’m going to try my goodest (tm JoeBiden) today.

Good morning, SKOL!

Good morning!
FTP and FT*, SKOL!
Well… this is one effed up way to start the day, but saw this:
Dov Kleiman
@NFL_DovKleiman
Best ever Pass TD/INT ratio among QBs with 4,000 Pass Yards in a single season:
2018 Aaron Rodgers 25/2
2020 Aaron Rodgers 48/5
2021 Aaron Rodgers 37/4
2014 Aaron Rodgers 38/5
2011 Aaron Rodgers 45/6
2019 Aaron Rodgers 26/4
Effed up – why? Rogers is probably the second most talented QB to ever play. He’s not over daring, so this seems like what you might expect.
Well we all hate the Pack, so showing some stats that highlight Rodgers pretty impressive TD to interception rates might irk some. Rodgers is definitely different though, and as you said, talented. Truly one of the best ever. Dammit.
I try not to hate. Packers have been the gold standard in the division. We simply to need to build a better overall organization than they have and then beat them regularly on the field. Just my thought.
Me too.
Except the Packers.
I HATE the fucking Packers.
FTP
We do hate the pack – but facts are facts. Aaron Rodgers is an arrogant douche – but he’s also probably top 3 or 4 in all around arm talent as far as NFL QB’s are concerned. I dislike Rodgers very much (less so now that he’s not in FTP green) but even I can’t deny his on-field excellence.
There will always be hate.
He will retire a Puker at some point.
What are his playoff stats (including W-L, and especially Conf. Champ.)?
WH is giving host to questions sniffer will respond to? WTF is that?
The Sheep with be happy with that.
The rest of the US, not so much.
Brain dead puppet and people can’t see it. Mind boggling.
Actually I think there is about 35% who ‘do’ see it. they just don’t care.
Says he’s going after the rich. How many people will lose jobs? After his reckless spending it’s the middle class. A 1 party system is Socialism.
It is indeed the socialistic play book and it has been going on for 30 plus years. Started with higher education (and later down), removal of God/ religion from public, down playing the basic family, and destroying our institutions – police, courts etc. The plan is rolling along. Biden is just a pawn in the long range scheme.
And the State media happily agrees and complies.
And he still can’t answer em.
Lovely weather here in Minny. I see Phoenix will hit 115-117 this week where my dear x lives. I wish her well.
You’re so magnanimous.
That’s me NVF, always thinking of others.
I mean, dry heat my ass.
98 down here with max. humidity can feel pretty hot. Of course, it’s not dry heat.
Dry heat is way more gooder.
Went from Ft Hood when I retired and stopped in Tucson on the way west.
Was 95 degrees and 95% humidity in Ft Hood and 120 in Tucson with single digit humidity.
I was acclimatized to Texas at that point but 120 degrees felt cool in comparison.
Demon Ex’s belong in Hell Hole weather.
My Ex is in Bismarck.

Twinkies beat Stros 9-3 to even the series.
J. Ryan 5.2 IP, 3 ER, Bullpen did the rest.
Miranda tied an MLB record by getting a hit in 12 straight at-bats.
He became the fourth player to accomplish the feat, which had last been done in 1952.
that is one hell of a record!
Yet was pinch hit for in the 9th the other day. Baldelli is dumb.
Sniffer, cackles and KJP. Can’t make the shit up. Jill? What a attention seeking moron.
Old rule in politics – when you’re talking about yourself ( or candidate) and trying to explain what you said or why, you’re losing.
Meant Dr. Jill. Surprised she didn’t see sniffers cold coming.

*2023 reg season, min 150 total att in season
Dobby not good,
No Mullins, he only had 148 attempts so he didn’t qualify.
I was wondering about Mullens.
Interesting. Wonder how they calculate this. A bad route can make the QB look poor.
And think of all that money Watson is getting.
It’s Cleveland, their rivers start on fire.
At least have the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
Have to agree JR, no idea what criteria is applied here. If a QB is under pressure and throws a bad ball, does it count the same as a clean pocket throw? Don’t know how this was calculated.
And you know who the best 3rd down QB in the NCAA was last year? JJ. F the rest cuz we got the best.
Well, Michigan was 34th in the NCAA in 3rd down conversions, so not sure about that stat Bow. They were a running team, so most of their 3rd failures could have been on run plays. Dunno. I will say this… college stats don’t mean much in the NFL.
I think McCarthy will be very good. He is not a generational talent.
Thanks. Good data. He threw four passes and completed 3 of them for first downs… just kidding.
Note this is incomplete data. I think it was after five games.
The author states “It will be interesting to revisit these numbers at the end of 2023”.
That was the only one I could find but it was the same at the end of the season. He was highly efficient on this downs and nobody else was even close. Any failures to convert eye because Harbaugh tried to run it.
Just remember… the leader of the free world has to be in bed by 8…
But he’s only remotely coherent 10-4.
BIDEN IN 2020!
10 -4 … but then there’s lunch and nap time. Pretty good working hours.
Gives him less time to do stupid stuff.
I guess sniffer and physician are tight friends. Wonder how he got glowing health reports.
Medicine and politics don’t mix well. Remember, follow the science.
Put him in a tanning booth and juice him up. Damage control.
Just gotta tell the doctor that Hillary isn’t going to like a not healthy verdict.
He skips one person. There’s something different about that person but I just can’t seem to put my finger on it….
If this clown show of a admin gets back in 2024, I will leave the country!
Just the final nail if it happens.
How people can’t comprehend what a shit show sniffer and Harris are is beyond me.
I suspect this will ‘help’ FJB lose more of the Black Vote.
Feel sorry for that lady.
He’s always been a racist.
Another day of killings and robberies in America. Nearly a 100 in a mob robbery in Oakland. And by the way, sniffer is going to beat Trump again in “2020”. For F sakes, where has this country gone?
RIP
Wow… tragic. Kid was on his way. So, so sad.
Crap.
Horrible for the family.
Bad for the Vikings.
Hope it wasn’t a speeding in a new car bought with fresh contract money ala Addison situation gone worse.
from what I read they were on a four lane highway, another driver went to change lanes at a high rate of speed and knocked them off the road and into multiple tree stumps, all three in their car died. Authorities believe alcohol was involved. Tragic.
Sounds like it was a chronic drunk speeding and she ran em of the road into a bunch of tree stumps. He was a passenger in a vehicle with 3 people and they all passed. She of course was fine as were the people on the second vehicle she hit.
We used to compare Inmates to Cockroaches.
Partly because of their ability to survive just about anything.
Rare size for a outsized corner. Sad to hear.
Wow. Shocking.
Jesus. That’s awful. Kid had a pretty great story and bright future.
RIP
Team is cursed
If your a corner don’t let the Vikings draft you.
Damn, how horrible. Prayers to his family. He had such a bright future.
RIP.
Thank you Surly for posting a thread every day.
Around 100 out here today.
Not sure I will leave the house.
Well you do have all that hot air from a certain part time inhabitant of your state.
We’ve been camping for the Holiday weekend. Beautiful campsite, but it has been very hot and humid. I’m sweating like a pig.
FTP!
We’ve been camping too, only in Northern Minnesota (Bemidji), so temperatures have been good but some showers still happening.
Yeah. At my age, sweating like a pig is not fun.
You’re in your prime!
Mostly sunny and 78 here in Western Wisconsin. Maybe we will dry out a little today. We’ve had close to 3 inches of rain in the last 2 days.
Forecast is for 114 here today.
We have the garage fridge full of water/drinks for the movers but we have already been warned that they will take frequent breaks throughout the day.
Once they are loaded and gone we will organize and load the CRV and Tacoma and get everything set up for a early start Sunday. The Teachers BFF will come for washer/dryer this morning before movers get here.
It is happening finally.
Yay! Safe travels SoCal, happy it’s almost done!
So far so good.
Have a spectacular bruise along the top of my foot.
Doesn’t hurt though or bother me when I walk, I will call that a win.
Man, hope that bruise continues to be a nothing burger. You have worked a long time for this, and we’re all cheering for you. So glad you’re getting out of that State, and into a much better situation.
Today will be hot and complicated but not much actual work for me until tonight when we pack out vehicles for the final time.
Tomorrow I just have to sit on my butt and drive, I can do this.
#nojinx
Hope everything goes well and have a safe and uneventful trip.
From you lips (fingertips) to His ears.
I feel like a minion.
Actually more like a ‘rented mule’, it as been a hectic month.
Running as fast as these old legs will carry me.
The hard part is trying to be smart about it while I am doing it.
*Monty Python Auto Rec*
It’s been a long wait.
7-8 years of long term research/decisions.
8-9 months of planning and organizing.
8-10 weeks of work to make it all come together.
Space and visibility SC. Drive safe, almost over.
We are only interested in getting there safe.
As long as it takes, that is how long it will take.
No speed records this trip.
Good luck!
