Just a guess but I think the Packers will beat the Lions today. Perhaps just past bias, just not completely sold on the Lions.

If that happens and we win that will mean a 3 way tie for first place.
I can except that even if it means FTP winning.
FTP losing is also acceptable (always) even if puts us in 2nd as the Loins have a lot of tough games coming up.

Dunno. We’re all trying to understand what JJ meant when he said that. Less bombs away, and more control the clock with “possession” plays? Less “adaptive” route running and more just run a route, and let the QB throw it to you? No idea.

I read the squirrel bit someone, and was euthanized to check for rabies. The video of the owner appears to reveal a far more insidious side of this. The owners are Trump supporters, Did they have to be treated the way they were? Sitting outside for 5 hours, while officials searched their home? It was all done “legally” with search warrants signed by a judge, but this looks like a massive overreach here. I think a huge lawsuit may be in the works.

The squirrel bit someone when they came in to ‘take him into custody’. So why does it take 12 federal agents with a warrant to pick up one squirrel and raccoon?? Seems like more is going on?
It might have had to do with the raccoon since they found raccoons with rabies ‘in the area’. I had never heard of the squirrel until all this happened.

This is terrible…

Republican lawmakers demand answers from the Pentagon after military service members complained that they have not received enough absentee ballots to vote before Election Day.

GOP Reps. Brian Mast (R-FL), Bill Huizenga (R-MI), and Mike Waltz (R-FL) sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin citing their “grave concern over deficiencies in the Defense Department’s protocols” for the U.S. military because they said the absentee ballot stockpile has been “depleted and had not been replenished.”

Weird that he would say anything like that. Yes, our passing offense is 17th in the league in yards per game, but only six teams have thrown for more TD’s than us, and all of them have played 8 games, to our 7 (and one team, the Jets, has played 9 games).

Justin himself is third in the league in yards, and 4th in TD’s amongst receivers, so it’s not like he’s having a terrible year.

Just kind of weird to hear him acting like the offense needs to be changed.

We all know that KOC brought his “adaptive passing scheme” to the Vikings, where receivers are required to read the defense, and adjust their routes in-flight. This is very hard to do, and also the QB ends up holding the ball at times, waiting to see how the receiver is going to react to the defense. Justin might be saying “look if the play calls for me to run a stick route, I can run a stick route and win on it”.

On my way to brunch with me Milly and the wife – celebrating another trip around the sun (my birthday is Election Day)

About to have Salmon Eggs Benedict with some breakfast potatoes, wheat toast and some GD bacon (RIP Burgess Meredith)

Got some bro-bros coming over to watch our beloved Bugeaters attempt to become bowl eligible against UCLA today. One more win and we go bowling for the first time in almost a decade.

Homemade meatballs in the crockpot. Prepped some ham & cheese sliders and got a pot full of potato bacon soup to feed the horde. Wife made pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. We’ll eat well.

Got a Tecmo Bowl tournament planned for this evening. Teams pulled from a hat. 5 minutes to adjust rosters/playbooks and away we go. Can’t wait. Been talking shit all week.

Excited to right the ship tomorrow night on SNF. Excited to get Hock back. Hoping to see BFlo get the leaks plugged.

Errrrbuddy be safe this weekend. Drink and eat and be merry…..

I could be wrong, but I think they made this move before we lost to the Rams, anticipating we would at least be tied for the Division lead, and “a team to watch”. With the Lions and the Packer playing today, one of those teams will be 6-2 and one will be 7-1. Had we beaten the Rams, we would be right there as a team to watch, after the Lions and the Packers played in the 4:25 p.m. game.

All fair points. I saw a guy I know who is a big Dem supporter who supported Biden through and through post recently how Trump is in mental decline and he’s not fit to be president but GOP leaders seem to be in denial. That a president without mental competency would be a disaster for America… It’s like, well you’re right about one thing, a president without mental competency IS currently a disaster for America lol.

Been a busy morning. Read with interest the discussion of the Supreme Court from earlier this morning. Can’t say I quite understand all the thinking.
But was wondering, and after spending a few years in DC, wasn’t John Roberts appointed by George Bush. Yet, in “conservative circles “around the Beltway, he is considered as one of the worst appointees ever. A total disappointment.

But I have the same amount of fear of Harris getting to appoint even 1 lol.

In my opinion. it’s not the Justices, and who appoints them, or the Supreme Court in general that is the real problem.
Congress, and legislative bodies, should write law and if they can’t reach enough consensus to create law, then so be it. We should not then expect the Court to do it. All sides should not want this.
Similarly, under very divided conditions, we do not want the President issuing Executive Orders and Federal Agencies creating defacto laws thru regulation. Both sides should not want that either.
This is on the other two branches of government.

JRobert
JRobert

That was a great ruling.
Don’t think people understand the wisdom of our founders.
When you have a 51- 49 Senate, House is controlled by just 2 0r 3 seats, and the President is elected 50.2 to 49.8, we have a very divided country. And under those conditions not much is going to happen unless it is middle of the road. Extreme items should not happen – and that’s by design with good reason.
And both sides try to jam stuff when they have very marginal control, and that’s what gets things so screwed up..

This is the way the founders wanted it.
Abortion has NEVER been passed or signed into law by any President.

SCOTUS did the constitutional thing by ruling that since no federal law has ever been passed, it’s up to the States to make their own laws in regards to it.

And abortions have actually INCREASED because of it.

Edgecrusher71

It’s a fair point, but while we are talking about it. Did y’all know the abortion issue was highjacked as a political tool and there isn’t 1 case to be made in the bible that life begins at conception and the early church didn’t look at it that way till over 1500 years later when the topic was highjacked for political purposes?

Unborn fetuses were treated as property and not people in the bible, and there are examples to prove it… but you know… those are just the facts… uh oh… facts that go against what some folks around here think… wonder how that will go over…

NoDakRube

Edgecrusher71
Reply to  NoDakRube
1 November 2024 1:40 pm

No. Ps 139 is just a poetic reflection of God’s oversight of gestation, not a notion of fetal personhood. Throughout the Hebrew Bible, breath is the essence of human life (ruah & nefesh mean “breath” & are used to refer to “life”) & fetuses are treated as property, not persons. Because of influence from Greek philosophy, Hellenistic Jewish folks adopted the Aristotelian notion of the soul entering the body at the quickening. Early Christians debated Greek concepts of ensoulment, ultimately agreeing with the Aristotelian concept (until 19th century).

Jeremiah 1:5, which indicates God knew Jeremiah before his conception. In addition to the fact that this was an exceptional claim, it doesn’t remotely indicate they thought of fetuses as having personhood.

It seems science has come a long way since the Bible was written and even since the initial decision of Roe.
My believes and religion aside, doesn’t science now say at X weeks a fetus can feel pain, hear music, understand it’s mother’s voice etc.
That seems so “human” to me.

Please give this a view. Because you are reading and adding your own thoughts into things that aren’t actually said. That passage says nothing about contraception, you are having to add that. You have this very literally approach to the constitution but then add read into the Bible a lot. Again, I am not some crazy all out abortion advocate. This guy does a very good job covering the actual history and actual translations of this topic.

Really… If you truly believe the Bible was behind the times then and got shit wrong based on their limited understanding of things just know I think you are correct about that but it opens a whole can of worms.

The point being there are DIRECT passages that deal with how the unborn are seen, treated, whatever you want to say there for that word. And the unborn are not seen or treated on par with those who are born.

I have been on here and have stated I am for abortion bans having a middle ground cut off date. I struggle with this myself tbh. BUT most everyone I have ever talked to that is very much against abortions it stems from religion but that religious view was VERY much hijacked for self serving non-religious reasons.

The Angel Gabriel is from GOD.
GOD told Gabriel to deliver the message.

Luke 1:26-27

If you want to get all technical about it, go for it.
It was GODs message. Not Gabriel’s message.

When you get a bill or a letter in the mail, do you tell your wife that you received a letter from the post office today, or do you say I got a letter from my friend today? Are you able to see the distinction? You didn’t get the message or letter from the post office. The post office was the subcontractor hired by your friend.
The letter is from your friend.

But back to your silly point.
Why would GOD send Gabriel to tell Mary about a fetus that doesn’t have life?

Ok, had to get some 9v batteries to change the smoke alarms out.
Went to local Bi-Mart and got batteries and looked at ladders.
12′ (minimum required) is $124 there, up to $250 at Lowe’s/Home Depot.

Since we expect to only need it for one day we will check rentals of 14’s.
Then we can do everything we need a taller ladder for, some cleaning/decorating.

Came home and changed the first battery and now sweet silence.
We will change other other 6 lower ones and then plan for that sucker up about 18 ft.

I saw an add in SD where their angle on the add was a teacher saying she wasn’t comfortable talking to students about weather or not they should get an abortion so say No on this bill… I mean… You could just say, “Hey kid, sorry what you’re going through but I don’t feel comfortable talking about this with you.” The way in which both sides are attacking right now sincerely worries me. IF the adds I have seen from either are an indication of what works and people think make a good argument for why they should vote it doesn’t matter who wins, we’re in trouble. I lean towards Trump right now. I mean you can’t believe a word she says, but the same goes for Trump.

One of the thing that really makes me not want Trump to win is the Supreme Court. It shouldn’t be full of one party or the other. That is a problem, like a huge problem. Especially when 3 of the justices Trump has already put all ruled last summer in favor or supporting political corruption and pro-politician bribery. We can’t have this and expect anything to get better, hell we can expect the corruption to get even worse. Trump and his right wing justices are here for it.

Oh yeah sure, that’s why dem judges vote along dem lines almost always and republican appointed judges do the same. I know how ideally it is supposed to be but in the end every person on there is a politician. It’s why I really, really fear if it was all one party on the court or the other. Not good.

Like the 3 liberal judges who just desented on the removal of ‘self identified non citizens’ from the voter rolls in Virginia?

Yeah, that’s fucked too. It’s just goes to support what I’m saying. A supreme court dominated by one side or the other is BAD for the country. Very, very BAD!

Actually edge, much to the disappointment of many on the hard right, the republican appointed judges have many times voted against the republican position on matters – the same cannot be said the justices appointed by democrats who have ALWAYS voted along with the wishes of their party.

I’d like to take your word on that. But being as you and most on here live in an echo chamber and have consistently not believed in your own arguments if they are applied against you. I hesitate to believe you have a biased opinion on this. I am happy to say in the little digging I have done has disproved my stance a bit.

That also means instead of being irritated with party line voting in the case of this bribery in politics case, I should be irritated specifically with Trump and the people he’s appointed since they all supported it… fuck! I was on team vote Trump next week, now this makes that even harder… thanks for that! lol

No amount of evidence would sway you. I am not sure if it was ever you but any time I’ve went down this rabbit hole on here, literally every time. The goal posts are moved. So I am not going to waste my time. The 3 guys Trump put in there voted to support bribed for politicians. That makes me very hesitant to want him to appoint a 4th person.

According to the law, it looks like it should have been a 9-0 decision, that he did not break the law.

Looks like this guy has grounds for a lawsuit against the government for wrongful incarceration.

I don’t know man. I have learned today I am wrong about my stance I have had on the supreme court and how they vote. Not the first or last time I’ll be wrong. I will adjust accordingly. BUT I can’t get over how obviously corrupt this situation is. I feel like it’s like when they asked I think was it Clarence Thomas what the definition of porn is and he said you know it when you see it… I think that applies here. It’s corrupt.

I believe we all agree that what he did is unethical. But the law the prosecution used to sentence him to 21 months in jail said nothing about gratuities. Had they proven he knew he was going to get something in return, then it would be a bribe, and illegal.

I think it comes down to the individual on either side. Lumping everyone together doesn’t hold up. The Moral Majority was clearly a conservative movement and they wanted books band and wanted to tread all over free speech. Then of course you have Tipper Gore leading the charge in the 90s with the parental advisories. So I think as most things in life it comes down the individual. I think you can find folks on both side who take it literally and folks who infer.

And don’t get me wrong, there are bullshit things Dems stick together on with the Supreme Court as well. But it really seems the right are at the end the day the real supporters of corruption in politics as shown by how the Supreme Court ruled on this one. We should not be supporting and making it easier for politicians getting thousands and thousands in kick-backs.

Well actually the constitution is a living document which is a very smart and good thing our founding fathers put in place. Otherwise we’d still have slavery and all kinds of shit without amendments to that constitution… here learn yourself something:

My Friday started at 5:30 when all of the smoke alarms started beeping.
I guess one has a dead battery so they all beep.
With the vaulted ceilings we can’t even reach some of them with the ladder we have.

That is how our house is set up.
There is circuit breaker on our box for “smoke alarm”

We had one go off and shut off the CB and it still was going off.

I found the battery and replaced it and they shut off.

Good luck!

We are planing to change all the batteries, figure if we only changed the one we will go thru this again next month and the one after that.
We have 8 eight of the dang things. One of the requirements because this house was a long time rental when we bought it.

Kindred spirits. I was awakened at 2:30 am on Monday morning when the alarm in the hallway started beeping. In my experience, they always beep in the middle of the night. Similarly, we have ten foot ceilings so I sleepily replaced the battery.

I should replace them all this weekend with the dreaded switch to MDT, dark af when I leave work, followed a month later by dark when I go to work as well. The tight ass in me hates to replace functioning batteries but the safety conscious person in me thinks climbing a stepstool at 2 am is not ideal.
