Vikings & NFL Discussion
I have a discussion topic, I’m interested to hear what others think. The Steelers had a somewhat successful season, they were actually leading their division until they went on a bit of a late-season skid. Justin Fields was the starting QB to lead off the season, then Russell Wilson took over once he was healthy, and had streaks of good play and not-so-good play. Fields went 4-2 while Wilson went 6-5.
The question I have is: What do you think the Steelers should do at QB for 2025? Start Fields, start Wilson, or pursue another option? If you’d pursue another option, who would it be (free agent, trade, or pursue someone in the draft)?
Vikings News
Jared Allen was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s class of 2025, per Vikings.com.
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell was named the AP NFL Coach of the Year. Much deserved, he got more out of Sam Darnold and the 2024 Vikings than even the most optimistic fans expected. What I like most about him is that he’s humble enough to acknowledge his mistakes, thereby being able to learn from them. He’s improved consistently since taking over as the Vikings head coach, and is one of the better offensive play callers in the league.
From NFL.com, Sam Darnold reminisces about his 2024 magical season.
NFL News
NFL.com shares some thoughts about all four NFL Hall of Fame inductees.
Wow, I really expected Lamar Jackson to win this one. I suppose getting beat in the divisional round knocked him out of the top spot.

- Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.

What’s the over under on Swifty tv shots?
50?
87.
I think 10
11 SB’s in NO. Party town? Seems a tad unfair but the NFL is about the $$$.
Was thinking they should have one in Anchorage or a similar place.
Brings revenue to NFL cities. My point dude.
The NFL is about money – shocking!
Have to watch. Hoping a close game with questionable ref calls.
This is number 59, so that means 48 are elsewhere.
There are only about 10 realistic locations today, let alone the first 30 super bowls. Back in the day you had like 3 choices. LA collisieum, Orange bowl and NO.
Maybe cuz i hate the Aint’s.
Yeah.
My sister lives there, so I like visiting the city.
SB Sunday and not even a daily thread?
GF is gone fishin…..
Colder than a well diggers ass up here, especially in a portable.
Maybe closer to kickoff? I don’t know, I mean the creator of this football site says he’s not even watching the biggest and last game of the season so it wouldn’t surprise me if this thread stays.
I will add a new thread for rants.
lol. You the man Surly.
Several people asked about my recipe for mango-whiskey BBQ sauce. It is below. I play with the mango to sauce ratio to increase the mango percentage, and I go a bit heavier on the chipolte. Hint, after you puree the mango cook it with the chipotle, honey and whiskey slowly for about an hour or hour and a half to get it to start turning brown, that releases the mango taste better

USAID, which blessedly is no more, paid for a radical Islamic terrorist’s college tuition. Past receipts show that the former agency footed the bill for Anwar Awlaki’s higher education. Awlaki lied about the country of his birth to obtain funds for college through the State Department. Awlaki later became the point of the lance for al-Qaeda’s digital jihad arm.
Wow, foreigners garnering taxpayer funds to go to college? WTF are we doing?
As you know there are many ‘front’ companies that received loads of the money. Wonder how much went to the Clinton Foundation or Garland’s SIL’s DEI Company. And there’s all Soros’ fraud companies.
Why can’t we demand the return of funds in cases like these?
If you and I run a company that teaches DEI ( God forbide) and the Government wants to give us a bunch of money to go teach DEI to some Africans, what did we do wrong?
“We” didn’t do anything “wrong” unless you consider it unethical to waste taxpayer dollars on something so fruity. Certainly the Government is at fault for funding such ridiculous ventures.
Ethics in DC – you know better.
GM
Last football game of the season today. I will watch, and I think the Chiefs win.
Looking forward to seeing JJ as the starting QB next season.
SKOL
Honestly, I won’t be watching. I’ve lost interest in the NFL as whole. They’re too woke for me, and their focus is on entertainment, not sport. Rule changes like the kickoff, no taunting, can’t simulate a weapon when celebrating, team name changes because they’re offensive, etc. Yeah, pretty disinterested.
Makes sense.
I feel the focus has been entertainment since the 60s. It is just even more obvious now.
I will enjoy the game as it is while I can, since Flag Football is coming. CTE coverup will not last forever.
Players should know the risks, and be informed. If they choose to play a violent sport, for lots of money, it’s up to them. Boxing still has guys hitting each other in the head. I do think violent sports will be outlawed by the left, eventually.
The Left is on the ropes and on the way down. Even the NFL eliminating the End Racism Endzone scheme is ‘sniffing’ the sea change.
And they just came out this week saying that DEI is good and their keeping it.

Former Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills head coach Dick Jauron has passed away at 74-years-old following a battle with cancer.
RIP
Eagle fans fuel the SB with F–k T Swift T-shirts. Not a Swift fan but those fans are as classless as i’ve ever seen.
Yeah, Philly fans are the worst in the league IMO.
This is why I could never cheer for them.
I want both teams to lose, I just want the Poopeaters to lose more.
It’s not just us, it’s all over social media “the Superbowl no one wanted”. UGH.
I don’t hate the Chiefs, I hate the Swifties and the narrative the NFL is working for a money grab.
Same, plus I’m just tired of all the hype. I cheered for the Chiefs the first time they won. I’m just way over it now.
Remember when saying Obama’s full name was considered evil?
Barack Hussain Obama.
Well, CNN had a good one.
Obama Bin Laden
Just a Freudian Slip.
A franchise tag on Sam is 41.3 million. A transition tag is 35 million. I’m sure neither is a option just for salary cap reasons. Sam walks. Book it.
Yep… only way he stays is if no other team steps up to bring him in.
25 FA. We need help with both lines and secondary is a unknown. Seems a no brainer to me.
Not so sure. We need to win the division to have any chance of a deep playoff run. You simply cannot do that with the fourth best QB in the division. Goff and Love are for real and now with coaching Williams will improve a lot.
we need to think wisely.
Wins are not a QB stat.
That was already discussed today.
Sometimes a little nuance is required.
I am not really a ‘nuanced’ kind of guy.
I kinda thought that but realized most everyone here is flexible and very much open minded (RIGHT).
I am not that flexible, can barely reach my toes.
My mind is very open, since there is not much in there that means that there is a lot of unused space.
If you can still toss snow, you’re flexible enough.
And as Einstein said, why clog your brain with a lot of unnecessary stuff. Space is good.
I tossed snow for better than an hour yesterday and didn’t even fall down once doing it. I call that sufficient.
Space between my ears? I have that in Spades!
It wouldn’t completely shock me if they do the transition tag.
Still too much for my blood though.
Guess it depends on how far along they think JJ (QB) is.
And who the backup/insurance is. Mullins? D. Jones?? Someone else they can pick up on the cheap and have KOC fix???
I’m a advocate of strong line play, both sides.
It would be a nice change if that happened in Vikingland.
The Super Bowl is tomorrow, and I am not interested at all. Kinda sick and tired of the NFL and their woke nature. They did make a change to remove the “End Racism” moniker from the end zone. Time to stop insisting all white people are racists.
Woke:
Alert
Informed
Knowledgeable
Enlightened
Aware
None of the above.
‘all white people are racists’
But we were born that way they said.
It is not like we have a choice.
You know living and working in DC for years got a fair amount of experience working with people of different ethnic backgrounds. Seemed many of these groups had big problems with other groups (not whites).
this racist thing is hardly just ‘white.’
I was shocked when my brothers work crew was upset when he hired a new mechanic. They hardly spoke to him and tried to order him around.
When I asked about it they said it was because he was from El Salvador and they were Mexicans.
I couldn’t tell the difference even when trying to.
Whites are racist in America because it is a power play by certain groups. Truthfulness is not part of a power play. Getting people to believe what you say is part of a power play.
Surprised given how much you appreciate QB play. This is a chance to watch probably the most talented QB of all time on the biggest stage.
Poopeaters need Barkley to run for a 100+ and win TOP. Keep Mahomes off the field. Doubt i can cheer for it, however.
Hurts is not all that talented.
Mahomes is indeed talented, and dedicated. He works hard to improve each year. Having Kelce wide open on every play helps. He can run around, extend the play, then hit Kelce. That got him through his first 3 years. Then he started to get good at actually reading defenses.
I’ll watch – two best teams in football. Get a good view of where we need to get to.
Our defense was 5th in the league in scoring (least points allowed) and intercepted the ball a whopping 24 times. Gonna be hard to replicate a performance like that.
Didn’t seem to hold up as well against Lions and Rams and would guess we would have similar problems with the Eagles. The Jags, colts and Titans are not the real tests.
Made my mango-whiskey BBQ sauce for tomorrow’s pulled pork. i will save some for everyone online……
Need my e-mail address to send me some??
Or would a text work more better?
i will post here when I get home
Sounds interesting…
Have you noticed with some big tech companies (looking at you Yahoo and Amazon) that “updates” generally do not mean improvements, but just changes. I suppose middle management has to keep all of their people busy so they can justify their existence.
My original e-mail address was at yahoo and I have never changed it.
I find that every 8-10 years they ask if you want to try their ‘new and improved version’. I always say ‘No’. After about six months they just change you over because the ‘old’ version is no longer available.
At this point it is just what they do. It is more like rearranging the furniture than making any actual changes.
Same with me. I have had a yahoo email for almost 30 years. I don’t like yahoo, but I had the intrusiveness of Google, plus at this point it is a pita to change it
Agree, yahoo mostly sucks.
Sports are ok, games (simple ones) are alright, articles are mostly woke but sometimes something new/different.
Updates usually means better spyware.
I doubt knowing which Pron sites I visit will help them all that much.
I think it is supposed to be Saturday.
Just treat it like a weekend thread.
It is the new normal now-a-days.
First peek of the day, went to a pretty cool auction today, lots of sports memorabilia and guns, a great combination. As far as the steelers go, both guys are free agents. They could go in a few different directions. I would try and resign fields if I were them. He’s only gonna be 26 years old in March and did start out well for them last season. Hard to say what kind of interest he will generate.
Not sure ‘how well he did’ for them last season. Their offense was terrible but they got some wins. And since wins are not a QB stat……..
Oh wait, it is not Tuesday. I will just leave that here then.
Just explain to us how wins are a QB stat… that would be enlightening.
I think I just stated that wins are not a QB stat.
I thought you were being sardonic.
‘Sardonic’?
I reach my limit by being ‘sarcastic’.
I was more making fun of the whole KC debate thingie.
Yes, you were being cynical, but I missed it.
Did the wife make you a big breakfast this morning so all the blood is busy with digestion instead of mental activities?
#joke
Laughing… the wife went to the gym, to work that body. I did some errands this morning, and had coffee and oatmeal at a local breakfast place.
Well we have reached 100 comments, which I suppose is adequate for an offseason (at least for us) Friday.
I guess that means we can use this thread at least until Sunday when the SB (as bad as it is) might require a new one.
Place is dead and you get the commenting closed caption. WTF.
Dead Sea Friday it looks like.
Hope Oilers beat the Nordiques tonight.
I reviewed Snowbeast.
I did get to use a joke someone here made, but I can’t remember who. It was a guy who was in the Army I think, joking with an Air Force guy.
“Do you have to be gay to be in the Air Force, or is bisexual good enough?”
I paraphrased, though…
That is a Navy Joke.
But if you can use it for AF good on you.
Usually made corporate jokes for AF types.
Hot bunking makes me think of that Sabrina Carpenter song “taste” and the one degree of separation thing.
Not familiar with the song.
But the Navy has been object of these jokes since back when they had ‘cabin boys’.
And as the Army guys say – The submarine isn’t the only thing that goes down in the Navy.
Oh, I leave quite an impression
Five feet to be exact
You’re wonderin’ why half his clothes went missin’
My body’s where they’re at
Now I’m gone, but you’re still layin’
Next to me, one degree of separation
I heard you’re back together and if that’s true
You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissin’ you
If you want forever, I bet you do
Just know you’ll taste me too
Too deep for me.
Or too weird and disturbing.
Sometimes when I am here it feels like I am just talking to myself.
Not exactly sure why that is.
Did I kill chat all by my lonesome??
Is the internet down and my comments only appear on my computer??
Is it some ‘right wing conspiracy’ to shut down my voice/opinions?? (even though I have not posted anything political).
Or is it just ‘Friday-lite’ around here today??
All good questions. Does seem quite dead and it’s not like nothing is happening in the world. DC is on fire and the biggest football game of the year is at hand.
Perhaps everyone is out swimming or something.
I’ve had a lot going on lately. I’d say hopefully it slows down but I’m hoping for some changes at work that would probably make it worse, but it would be good. I’ll try to start trouble more often though.
It’s good to be busy at work. Elon may be watching.
‘Perhaps everyone is out swimming or something’
Or shoveling snow.
Oh the found old days of shoveling snow. I must admit don’t miss it all. Like fall and spring, but don’t miss winter very much.
But at least you can skip the gym and got some atta boys from the eighbors.
It felt pretty good.
Once we were done of course.
And it is not like either of us have to go to work today, or tomorrow.
I get pleasure out of a good 8-9 inches
of powdery snow such as you get when it snows at 0 or below, firing up the single stage toro and watching it fly with a clean stream (white shower?) 40 feet away.
As you point out, less than that I use the pusher, which is less satisfying but at least a workout.
Heavy wet snow I have to break out the grain shovel. That sucks.
Wow! your wife must wield quite the strap-on!
To each their own.
‘To each their own’
Yes, no kink shaming.
Even extreme kinks like this.
I mean that sounds really painful.
Maybe it ‘hurts in a good way’?
This stuff is pretty powdery/light except in the gutter where the melt is starting and making it heavy.
Neighbor across the street and he has a snowblower. He doesn’t have some to clear so he is done pretty quickly. He doesn’t have as much chance to enjoy interacting with the rest of us.
For years in Rochester we couldn’t afford a snowblower, but man we got some snowfalls and the design of our double driveway meant I could easily end up stacking shoveled snow above my shoulders. Once that happened I was doomed, thank goodness for the neighbor that came across the street with a snowblower to save the day.
Out here in the dry flatlands we don’t get anything like that for precipitation, thank goodness. I-90 is closed down west of Billings through Bozeman now, though.
I can’t see the cost of a snowblower here as infrequently it would be used.
If that changes I would reconsider that but that is were I am currently.
I have been working like crazy.
Fridays are always slow.
Vikings went out in a buzz-kill way again.
Super Bowl is between Chief/Eagles, so that is kind of boring, too.
I certainly agree that SB this year is a bummer.
There’s always golf…..
I don’t have any Orange Golfballs.
Plus I don’t play golf, just like I don’t play soccer, or hockey, or similar stuff.
I had a farking melt related to work so have been occupied with the various vented to parties assuring me my concerns are being addressed. It might surprise you…I always say just call me and I can give you details…but they say can you give us the highlights now…which leads to a long email. Odd given the brevity with which I post on here.
You have the gift to gab MT.
Funny how your post claiming ‘brevity’ is one of shortest of yours in recent memory.
#grin
Short story long – MT
Hate it when I argue with my burner account.
But sometimes talking to yourself is the only way to have an intelligent conversation.
It often worked that way when working in prison.
True true true!
Went to the dentist. Then to the office. Now ready to cause trouble.
IOL options that are available this offseason.
Not a complete list, just who they think KAM will consider.
https://fansided.com/nfl-free-agent-offensive-lineman-2025-ranking-top-targets-vikings
We got about 4-5 inches of snow overnight. Spent the last hour + out there shoveling. There was enough of it that even The Teacher felt compelled to brave the weather and assist.
I also help our older neighbor with his driveway and the PO on our other side with his sidewalk. We chatted with some other neighbors who were doing snow removal as well. It was a community event.
Good thing we were not planning to go to the gym today It is not needed now as we got our ‘workout’ in.
There are people older than you?
As hard as it is to believe yes.
And he was out there shoveling snow. He was taking frequent breaks but he was getting it done.
With youngsters not wanting to take over the farm, you would be amazed how many 80 year olds are out there in the world carrying calves, roping steers, etc. About once a month I see an 80 year old pop up with x-rays after getting head butted by a cow.
I cleared his sidewalk last time so he reciprocated this morning before I got out there. Was glad I was able to help assist with his driveway.
QOTD.
Since neither Fields or Wilson is under contract for 2025 it seems premature to discuss which should be their starter. There is a decent chance that both will choose to be on other teams for 2025.

As DE Viking mentioned down at the bottom of the tread
‘Wow.
Two Vikings get awards.
Shocking really.
Vikings are one of those teams in “flyover country”
I wonder if this increases The Hitman’s chances of getting into the HOF. I was worried that he was going to be one of those ‘almost’ every year due to playing for Minnesota.
Congrats to our HC for winning Coach of the Year, and congrats to #69 for finally making it to the Hall of Fame, well deserved!
I see Sterling Sharpe got into the Hall of Fame. I always liked Sterling. He was a unit.
I think it’s weird that he speaks English and his brother doesn’t.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0OkR986LL4
LOL. Classic.
And to think Dan is now an “expert” on BSPN.
Poopeaters dealing with illness issues?
Well, when you eat poop………….shit happens.
I’m sure they have access to heavy duty meds.
Mentioned Jalen Carter. Clickbait maybe.
I find it funny that Chiefs/Eagles/Lions fans all feel their coach was snubbed by the coach of the year going to KoC.
KoC got double-digit wins with Kirk Cousins and Sam Darnold.
That is enough to prove he is the best coach of the 4.
Two very good QB’s. Darnold appeared to crumble in the last two games, but I always said he was talented. KOC got a lot out of his arm. Good work. It helps that pretty much the whole offense was in its third year in the system though. They were acclimated and could execute the plays with relative precision. That matters a lot. Sam basically had the table set, just had to make the throws, and he did.
I’m really curious to see how the Darnold saga ends up. I used to think him being gone was a done-deal because JJ was the shoe-in.
Now, I am not so sure since JJ has dwindled since his injury.
But the other wrinkle is Daniel Jones, too. Maybe Jones will be the come-back player of 2025.
KAM is not going to pay Sam much money. If another team offers him $40M or more, KAM will let him walk. KAM will offer a one year extension, and it won’t be a big payday for Sam. I see Darnold in the running for the Raiders job, and even the Giants.
Sooner or later playing the QB carasol game is going to backfire on you.
At least Jones has a playoff victory under his belt. Can’t quite remember who NYG beat but I know it was a road victory.
Not funny!
I think it was a pretty average team they beat. Not a 13-win team or anything, so Jones winning makes sense.
Great that KOC won the COTY! Congrats!
QOTD. I don’t like either. Fields has been in the league five years and still can’t hit a 5 yard out consistently. Wilson, throws a goos deep ball but can’t hit much else. Hard to build much of an effective offense with QB’s that throw like that.
Not being sarcastic here, they would be way better off with Cousins.
Russell Wilson is only good for being a spark-plug backup at this stage.
Personally, I don’t know why teams don’t regularly use a spark-plug backup. If the team is listless, I would like to see teams regularly pull the starter and throw in the backup. It might shake things up.
In fact, I’d like to see teams just randomly start the backup here and there. If you don’t have a top five QB, why not? It’s not like you are going to win the Super Bowl, so do some crazy things here and there and see what happens.
A mid-starter QB should not be a sacred cow. Unfortunately, they pay them so much that they must be treated as such.
Steve Spurrier did that with the Redskins. It was a disaster.
Was that with Grossman and Palmer?
I think in that case, the best choice is start the kicker!
Shane Matthews / Patrick Ramsey / Danny Wuerffel
I forgot all about Danny Wuerffel.
We had Wuerffels in my neck-of-the-woods. I always meant to ask if they had any connection.
I’d like to trace out the genealogy of our TE Mundt. I have Mundts in the family tree. My mom got big into genealogy and traced our family way back. It was kind of neat. Had relatives in the Civil War and stuff.
It sounded like a lot of my family got killed in Europe during wars over there.
Makes me realize how easy I have it.
Europeans killed each other a lot. Kind of like other places in the world have done. Of course the rest of the world killed each other peaceably. It is just Europeans that are evil.
The Roman Empire is regarded as one of the greatest empires of all time.
The ‘Pax Romana’ was thing as well.
Didn’t Tom Landry once do it for a while with Morton and Starbauch. Epic fail so he traded Morton and the rest is history.
Yep
And if I remember correctly (age issues). Seiford did it with Montana and Young. Pissed both QB’s as well as the fans off although they had some success. They then let Montana go.
Yeah, switching QB’s around to “shake things up” is a bad plan poorly executed.
He also tried it at Florida as well. Would sometimes rotate QB’s every other play to typically disastrous results.
Yep… I got pulled in a game after I threw three interceptions in the first half. The coach told me, “sometimes it ain’t your day son”. The next week I was back under center.
Spurrier was such an interesting guy. Prolific offense in the Fun n Gun at Florida and as he put it ‘We got the fastest kids and we’re just gonna throw the ball around the yard’ which was true – until he met the 1995 Nebraska team and got demolished.
Then he goes to the NFL and thought he could ‘throw the ball around the yard’ not realizing that in the NFL everyone has ‘the fastest kids’ and his college QB retreads weren’t cut out for the pace and speed of the NFL. I’ve also heard stories that his work ethic in the NFL left a lot to be desired, that most days he had a tee time that he never missed and treated it like a typical 9-5 gig. Don’t know if that’s true – but the on-field product leaves me to believe that it isn’t far from the truth.
Vikings did it in 87 with Kramer and Wilson.
I dimly remember that year, so I wasn’t too disappointed by it.
I stopped watching the Vikings for a couple seasons because I became more interesting in Eric Dickerson, and I also liked the Raiders for a bit there.
Dimly????
Holy crap Batman.
1987 was the most epic year in Vikings history.
Backed into the playoffs.
Pounded the *Aints and 49ers into the NFC championship game.
Darren Nelson drops a pass in the end zone for a potential trip to the superbowl.
Dimly????
He’s just a pup. Give him a break. Memories don’t really form well until 4 years old or so.
It is because I didn’t watch the Vikings games that year. I was all about Dickerson and the Raiders at that time.
I can remember mom watching the NFC championship. I can see her sitting on the couch plain as day, but I didn’t watch it. The Vikings were completely off my radar for a couple years there.
I’m with wrenage on this one.
Steelers QB question?
Sign Kirko so he can retire a Steeler….!!!!!
Its what the retirement represents.
Good morning, SKOL!
FTP!
Congrats to Jared Allen! HOF!
As far as the discussion topic, I think the Steelers need to pursue another option. I think if they go with a QB out of the draft, they should keep Wilson for another year and not push the rookie out too early.
I also think it would be a good landing spot for Darnold.
GM!
FTP!
TGIF!
SKOL!
On the Steelers QB question, I would sign fields, draft a QB, and say goodbye to Russ.
I would then draft a QB each year until you find one that does not suck.
I do not think Fields is the best answer long term, but I think he gives them a chance next season.
Happy Friday
