Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts

Dang it, the Packers got a lot better yesterday. Jerry Jones traded Micah Parsons to our hated rivals in exchange for two first round picks and DT Kenny Clark. If Parsons manages to stay healthy, this will go down as a major win for Entitled Town. The NFC North is going to be the best division in football, and there likely won’t be a close second. Yikes. I think Jerry Jones is senile….or stupid…..or both.

Who won the Micah Parsons to Green Bay trade?

  • Depends whether he stays healthy (56%, 10 Votes)
  • The Packers (39%, 7 Votes)
  • The Cowboys (6%, 1 Votes)

Total Voters: 18

Vikings News

From VIkings.com, KAM and KOC weigh in on the Minneapolis tragedy prior to yesterday’s press conference.

Vikings.com also looks at how Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer can support J.J. McCarthy in the Vikings QB room.

Adrian Peterson is to sign a one-day contract with the Vikings in order to retire in purple, per YouTube. I love this, AD made this team a lot of fun to watch, even when the team had little to no passing game.

NFL News

ESPN hands out grades for recent trades around the NFL.

Details on the Micah Parsons trade from NFL.com.

From Bleacher Report, an “unnamed NFL exec” (eye roll) calls Jerry Jones and the Cowboys idiotic for the Micah Parsons trade. I put zero stock in these ‘unnamed NFL exec’ stories.

Media Selection

This is a great interview, I have a ton of respect for both of these guys. Enjoy!

If you repair 90% of the roof can it still be called a repair and not a replacement??

Social Security has to be secured, and getting 11 million people off the rolls is a very significant start. $20B a month is almost a Trillion dollars over four years.

Pretty sure this is about protecting the Social Security budget.

They also need to amend the rules to get people who are legally on the roles (but really free loaders) off the roles.
And to DE’s point, just look at the Navy’s cost overruns for the new submarine programs, carriers and ship building in general.
There seems to always be a host of “good reasons” to spend money.

Which is why bringing in $17T in new business over 7 months, while simultaneously working to defund fraudulent programs, AND garnering $30B a month in tariff revenue is smart.

We didn’t get to a $37T debt overnight, so we won’t solve it overnight. That said, we’re off to a roaring start.

KOC got Dobbs up to speed enough to start in like 2 days. Wentz has been in the same system in LA. He’ll be fine to stand on the sideline and watch JJ light it up.

No longer New Vikings Fan
Reply to  bowbunch
29 August 2025 11:48 am

That’s not exactly right Bow. What KOC did was give the play call to Dobbs that was on his wrist band, then tell him where to go with the ball. It worked well enough for a couple games, then Dobbs just proved he had a somewhat limited ability to learn and run the offense.

bowbunch
Admin
Reply to  No longer New Vikings Fan

So he can do that for somebody to start but he can’t get Wentz ready to stand on the sideline in 2 weeks?

No longer New Vikings Fan
Reply to  bowbunch
29 August 2025 12:14 pm

I didn’t say that. If Wentz is needed before he really has a decent understanding of the offense, KOC will utilize the same methodology. Sean McVay was the originator of this methodology when he was in Washington. He took it to the Rams, and Goff said “yeah, sometimes I listen to him, and sometimes I just blow him off” in an interview. Goff failed to execute the offense as designed, and then he was traded to the Lions.

JRobert

Think Dobbs problem was just as you say “limited ability” and it wouldn’t matter if he was here 2 days or 2 years.

No longer New Vikings Fan
Reply to  JRobert
29 August 2025 12:28 pm

Yes. Remember what KOC ultimately wants to do, is run his adaptive route passing offense. This is where the receivers read the defense, and alter their routes mid flight. Some of these adjustments are easy, some are more complex. In the end though, you need a QB with great processing ability to see the defense, anticipate the receivers adjustments, and make an accurate throw.

Basic premise of these videos is a famous drummer hears a popular song that they’ve never heard before without the drum track and they try to come up with the drum part. Chad Smith playing 30 seconds to mars is another great one.

Some songs are really good imo. But I have strange music tastes.
She is also extremely talented and a marketing genious.

Tom Scott and the LA express was the first album I purchased. I think the second was Blood Sweat and Tears.

Mostly listen to hard rock or classic rock, but I have enjoyed a lot of pop music as well.

Shake it off is catchy, and I always like songs with a decent saxophone part.

I saw people joking about Hitmans potential injury, read something online that might make sense since they are being vague and its not Football related (he’s playing week 1, bet on it), some speculate a minor complication with a vasectomy which can be painful for obvious reasons. If it was something serious I feel like that would have been disclosed and or he wouldn’t have been at camp at all. We’re good, you old doomers.

I have never been to a game in Philly, but everything I hear says you are in danger if you go wearing the opposing teams colors.

Yeah, but Dallas could trade their 1st pick and the puker pick to move up to very near the top of the draft. And if Dallas stinks and is already near the top of the draft, then those late 1st rounders could be awesome 2nd picks.

That’s great progress – congratulations. Burn more calories, can eat more.
Sometimes the scale can be misleading. For example, have seen folks go on an exercise program, lose weight and then start to stale, At that point their bodies have started to put on muscle from the exercise and muscle has more weight. So the weight is sort of ‘good’ weight at that point. Kind of a balance.

peterplaysbass
Reply to  JRobert
29 August 2025 7:27 am

yeah, that makes sense. I haven’t been exercising much, just eating less.

started with portion control, then intermittent fasting. my routine now is to not eat until 4pm, then turkey lunchmeat and pico de gallo as a snack meant to discourage over-eating at dinner.

it feels like the first 10 lbs were almost easy, the next were noticeably more difficult, and now every pound is a battle.

maybe I’ll look at the scale less and just focus on more exercise. I’d like to be less militant about food, but I also don’t want to spend the 2nd half of September playing catch-up.

Thanks for helping me think through my thoughts, fellas.

Intermittent fasting and limiting processed foods was huge for me.

Some of their friends have almost no ability to move around and do things to live life, which is sad and a little scary. I’m hoping I’ll at least be able to putter around until the very end.

I’ve always like to eat, including sweets, and never walked away from a few beers either. So given that, had to exercise especially with age. Now I was so stubborn about that, that I keep running even when I shouldn’t have and had to get a knee replacement.
Have know learned thru lots of trial and error, all things in moderation. There just is no way I can really diet, but can limit the “bad stuff” – if I eat like a pig one day, go light the next day or so. And with exercise, sensible daily workouts. No need to kill myself, but regular strength and cardio.
Listen to your body.
Good luck.

Neat on the vow renewal!

Today I weigh 3 pounds less than I did on my wedding day in 1989.
It took time, but I am down 50 + pounds from my max weight from 15 years ago.
Thankfully I have a great doc that told me to try and lose 10 pounds each year vs dropping the BMI chart in my face(had that happen once), and to keep working out. Took me 4 years to lose the last 30 pounds. Finally I had my annual yesterday and while the BMI is still 27, all the bloodwork is good and he told me to maintain. No reason to lose anymore weight. 6’4 and 222 works for me.

62, no medications yet. His only prescription for me was the Mediterranean diet and keep exercising(I row daily, lift a bit, and DDP yoga are my go to workouts)

Started the Mediterranean diet in April. did mostly keto/low carb prior to that, but the Blood Pressure and Cholesterol were both creeping up each year. I still do mostly low carb, but the focus is veggies and protein. Works for me, but every body is definitely different.

Still will get my bread pudding at the Renaissance Festival next week, and have a few beers.

That’s a cool journey. Sounds like you’re doing things correctly. My goal was 25 pounds in 5 months, which felt (and still feels) very do-able.

I was 185 at high school graduation, and 185 four years later. Then a desk job and wife and house and kids saw a slow ascension from 185 to 230 this year (I’m 44 years old, 6’1″ and 5/8ths [yes, the 5/8ths matters!]).

I thought 199 would be really fun to see, but I’m very happy being under 210.

I need to look into specific foods to avoid and target, but mostly what I’m doing now is focusing on protein & veggies and trying to avoid carbs. Beer is weekends-only now.

(sigh)

Enjoy your bread pudding! you’ve earned it!

The cycling will help for sure. Your body naturally fights weight loss by slowing down your metabolism. So the activity is needed to get the weight loss moving again. Also, pat yourself on the back for your success so far. Many people start, then give up. Stick with it.
