Vikings & NFL News
I am ready for next Thursday. Not because I expect the NFL draft to be entertaining, but because without our former GM, this season the team could do better. We will also have more to argue about in a week.
Thread Guidelines
- Keep politics to a minimum. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be respectful and civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument, not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW language/pictures to a minimum. We don’t want anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- To summarize, behave like adults. Treat each other with respect, and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something, please do. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.
- Twitter sized version: Be cool to one another.
In case anyone is still here waiting on a new thread. Been there/done that.
Something most fans don’t know. Between 2018 and 2023 only two QB’s threw more TD’s than Cousins did in the NFL. That was Mahomes and Russell Wilson. Mahomes played in 7 more games and threw a whopping 48 more TD’s (crazy) but Wilson played in 4 more games, and only threw2 more TD’s.
Data here:
https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/most-td-passes-2018-to-2023
Kirk still sucks.
Laughing. The data set includes all of 2023, when Cousins only played 8 games. He would have been the 2nd most productive QB in the league for the Vikings had he not popped his Achilles. When you have a guy THAT good, you should appreciate him.
I bet you didn’t even know this.
I tend to stay out of the whole Cousins discussion. Too much emotion, not enough logic. His downsides included a perceived lack of loyalty. But heck, to everyone but us fans, football is a business. In business how many companies are loyal to employees? He was also not very mobile. WELL, everyone knew that before he was signed. He is a “check down” man. I think this is silly because we dont know what he is being told to do, and decision are made in split srconds on the field. And he was not a winner. Lotta HOF QBS with no ring.
Cousins kept us out of “qb hell”. Now we are in QB hell. I just move on, and worry about the present team. Plenty there to keep me busy
I prefer QB Hell versus average every year.
Sooner or later, the team will be good enough (from building talent from the trenches out) that the QB will only need to be average. See Seattle last season.
Of course Seattle has a functional front office that did a very good job building that solid team.
Vikings are a bit confuzzled there….
That is a fair take Surly. Building from trenches out…..worked for Philly
Yep, and Hurts will not play up to his contract either.
It worked because they built up a solid team while he was on his rookie deal.
I know that because you consistently post this, and other stats that prop up Kirk.
He is, always has been, and always will be a good but not great QB, that has an accurate arm, that is just above average. And those are the results of all the teams he plays for. Average.
For what he is paid, he underperforms.
I joke when I say he sucks, because obviously he has been top 10-15 at that job for most of his career. He has been paid top 3 and never been that.
So, Kirk still sucks.

Greasy Galvin NewScum had his campaign buy 67,000 copies of his memoir.
His nicknames are spot on.
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/newsom-pac-bought-thousands-memoir-copies-about-his-hardships-juicing-sales
He’s been in politics a long time, and pretty much everything he’s done has been to the detriment of his constituency. I mean you know that first hand. I wonder though if deep blue California will ever wake up and stop the madness? He’s not only a sleazebag, he’s a terrible Governor.
He just needs the cities along the coast. He can ignore the rest of the state as they don’t have enough votes.
Will Anderson, DE, signs contract with the Texas for 3 years, $150M. Yikes.
https://www.foxnews.com/sports/texans-will-anderson-highest-paid-non-quarterback-nfl-history
Hmmmm… wonder about the details of the contract? Might be rear loaded, allowing the team some outs if he doesn’t produce, or let him go before the big money hits the cap.
The Twins face the Reds tonight. The starting pitcher from the Reds is from Welcome Mn. My son was a year younger than him and had to face him to win sections in baseball his Jr year. We had our ace and they had theirs, I sat right behind home plate. Quite possibly the best pitched game I have ever watched at any level.
That’s cool that he made the big leagues. My brothers wife’s son, a step nephew of mine was drafted by the Blue Jays in 2020. Only 3 rounds that year because of covid and he still got drafted in round 3. A pitcher since little league, lived with his dad in Edina so got some recognition. Sadly, his elbow didn’t hold up and needed surgery so the MLB dream never came true.
This is one of reasons I love Trump.
Dude knows how to communicate.
Pope and the media have been over the top critical of Trump.
Yet this sums up the Pope/Media hypocrisy on the “feud”
Brilliant!!
i just wanted to stop in and say the logic/premise of the movie “Moneyball” is all a fallacy and it really makes me mad everyone thinks the A’s were this small ball, no name team
that’s all
Thank you for your minni rant.
I had never heard of a single player on the team.
Keep in mind that I could not name a single baseball player not on the Jays other than Ohtani and Judge.
then you obviously didn’t know that the year that “Moneyball” portrays was 2002, and that team had the AL MVP (miguel tejada), the AL Cy young award winner (Barry Zito) and the leagues best closer (i dont’ even remember his name)
The team was STACKED but the stupid movie acts like they won because they signed 2 or 3 unknown players who walked alot or who did one little thing right.
STUPID
When Billy Beane took over as GM of the A’s, they had the 5th lowest payroll in MLB.
Wasnt the premise about competing when being out spent by the other clubs?
Personally, the lack of salary control has ruined baseball forme
sure that might have been the “premise” but the movie fails to recognize that they literally had the bests player and pitcher in the american league on their team. the MVP and Cy young award winner…not to mention like the best 3rd baseman and one of the best young outfielders at the time. and 2 other cy young candidate pitchers…
the movie spends the time trying to say because they went cheap and got like 2 or 3 role players that’s why they were good. it’s a bunch of crock
Well, yeah, but the movie portrays total luck.
Beane was limited and said so many times, in the movie.
beane was limited because HE WAS PAYING THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE
Yeah, but he didn’t know that.
It was luck.
He took chances on players and won.
Kwesi took chances on players and lost.
They also lost multiple all stars in FA that were coming off rookie contracts, they took advantage of the rookie contracts they still had with tejada, Chavez, zito, etc and supplemented them with underrated and overlooked players that led them to a historic winning streak, then the twins kicked their assess in the playoffs
Just remember 2 years ago.
Twins will choke like Kirko needs a check down on 4th and 8
Here’s the near hole in one for Rickie Fowler I commented on earlier.
You have quite the bromance with this guy.
He wasn’t even good enough to qualify for the Masters.
He is a Golfer, that is enough.
I’m a golfer.
Diehard.
I don’t have man crushes on players.
Let alone mediocre and irrelevant players.
Well DE, sorry to inform you but there are over 9,300 golfers in the official world golf rankings, and the Masters invited 91 players to the tournament this year, so I’d say Rickie is in pretty good company. Guess folks are only supposed to “like” someone in the 91 players at the Masters this year? Right. Got it. Brilliant. I mean GD genius comment there.
BTW only the top 50 in the OWGR get into the Masters out of that 9300+. Rickie is in the top 60.
He will choke away the lead against the bottom half of PGA competition this week.
It’s his only strategy. Win a tournament with mediocre players, and he might get into a major again.
So… that’s some reason in your brain to criticize me for thinking well of him and pulling for him? Yeah… deranged logic there DE. Sorry this is la la land reasoning. Everyone who reads that are gonna look at you sideways now. This is only about you posting something about me, to put me down. But here’s the deal, criticizing me is not the same as besting me. It’s just pure irrationality on full display for all to see.
Fowler is the ultimate tease, always chocks at majors, kinda like Phil before he finally won one.
Just like Kirko.
NLNVF loves Mediocre athletes.
I like good guys, who represent their sport well. I don’t base my opinion on your irrational perceptions.
That is a helluva shot though
It was. Rickie is a fan favorite, and has been for a good 15 years. He isn’t at the Tiger Woods level of talent, and in some folks view has had a disappointing career. Yet thousands of fans flock to tournaments to see him and get his autograph. He spends hours after every round signing stuff for fans. He’s a good egg. He’s won a few tournaments, including the Players, and so he’s got some street cred on tour. Just a good guy, and a good pro.
Hopefully he eventually wins a major if he is that good a guy.
One hopes, but every year he’s getting a little older, and every year there is more young talent coming out. If I was a betting man, I’d say highly unlikely, but he does have the talent to do it if his game comes together for four consecutive rounds.
McDavid picked up 4 assists in the last game of the season to capture his sixth Art Ross trophy (second highest number of Ross trophies all time) with 138 points. More importantly, the win place the Oilers second in the division which allows them to stay in the Pacific until the conference finals, avoiding the Central blood bath.
Time for some Duck hunting.
Believe it or not, the Oilers have not won the division since 1989. At this point I wonder if they ever will again, after winning it so many years in a row.
WTH is Art Ross?
Never heard of him.
And I followed hockey from the 1970’s until the North Stars left Minny.
Same. F Norm Green!
Canadian defenseman who was the manager and coach of the Bruins for 30 years. Designed the official NHL puck. Best known as the namesake of the Art Ross trophy.
You’ve never heard of the Art Ross trophy as Minnesota has never had a player come close to winning one.
The oilers should never have traded the great one, kind of like the hockey version of the babe Ruth Red Sox curse
The owner could not afford to keep the team intact, and as it turned out later Gretz was in on the deal. Those tears broke my goddamn heart!
Thanks for getting rid of the naked dude Surly.
6 days to the draft……
Less ‘Naked Dude’ is always good IMHO.
Vikings holding a pre-draft meeting/workout with….. a ‘Punter’.

Leave no stone unturned…
Voila…
Dow up over 1,000 right now after Iran promises to open the strait and never blockade it again.
https://www.cnbc.com/2026/04/16/stock-market-today-live-updates.html
Trust but Verify. Even more with Iran.
Trump knows what he’s doing. He’s garnered more progress in the middle East than anyone has almost ever. He’s destroying the biggest Nation State sponsor of terror in the world and bringing them to their knees. No one has ever attacked Iran like this and forced them to the negotiating table. No one has ever kicked sand in their face like this.
I heard/read that when John Kerry was negotiating with Iran they got up and walked out. He actually got up and ran after them.
This is what the Iranians expected to continue but they got Trumped instead.
Exactly. Trump knows how to wield power. He used tariff’s to crush bad trade deals and force $17T in new manufacturing investments in the U.S. He used the military to get Maduro, and wreck Iran’s nuclear pursuits. Cuba is looking at becoming a partner Nation. NATO and UN? Yeah, kicked their ass too. Illegal immigration? Ended it and sealed the border. He is a force to be reckoned with.
Maybe he can get them to stop murdering wrestlers too
I’m sure they crossed their heart and hoped to die
Dem’s telling everyone that the average American is suffering under Trump’s economy. Apparently the stock market means nothing. Yet when Trump first implemented his Tariff’s and the stock market dipped dramatically, they were screaming he was wrecking the economy. Can’t have it both ways though. The country is getting more prosperous.
Just think how good we would be doing without the Dem’s suing Trump at every turn and impeding him on everything he’s doing. They aren’t interested in making this country better. They just want to stop Trump.
This is 100 percent true.
Sell high.
What happened to the countdown until the draft? Now I don’t know when to not watch it.
I dreamt last night that the 1st round was over and I had to get to the computer to see who we picked or how far we traded back.
Rickie Fowler tied for the lead at the RBC Heritage tournament after a near hole in one on the par three 14th hole. Hit the flag dead center on the roll, and ended up 11 inches from the cup. Tap in birdie. Thought it was going in for sure.
I posted this before the ‘New Thread’ appeared. Might as well post it again here rather then let all of my hard work go to waste.
Running back in round 2??
I am thinking we could do better than Mr Hair Helmet.
https://thevikingage.com/minnesota-vikings-warned-not-follow-2026-nfl-mock-draft-path-mel-kiper
I like Kaelon Black, RB, Indiana, 5-10, 210 lbs, 9.14 RAS currently raked #152 but usually lasts until pick 163.
Or even more Adam Randall, RB, Clemson, 6’3″, 232 lbs, 9.44 RAS. He is a converted WR so he can catch out of the backfield and is considered a ‘competent blocker’ which puts ahead of many RB in this draft. He is rated at #210 and can frequently be had with pick 196.
It used to be said you can win with average running backs so no need to draft one in the first 2 rounds….Don’t know if I still believe that….If there is a gamechanger in round 2 they should take him.
Love is the only RB considered a ‘game changer’ and he is not making it until Round 2, mostly likely not even to pick #18.
Trump has completely flipped the global economy in our favor. I don’t think folks really get the significance of this. We are truly a Super Power again, dominating everyone else.
And doing it in Spanish!
Interesting… it was in English when I posted it… bother.
Too bad no-one ever invented an AI type thing to translate such stuff.
The United States is now the world’s leading energy superpower:
No. 1 in Oil Production, more than Saudi Arabia + Russia + Iran combined.
No. 1 in Natural Gas Production: more than Russia + Iran + China combined.
No. 1 in Crude Oil Exports
No. 1 in Exports of Petroleum Derivatives
That’s all very nice, but if core consumer prices don’t go down in the next 5 months the Republican’s are going to get crushed in the Mid Terms.
Oh you mean like eggs? Yeah Trump did that. Gas? Yeah he did that, and he’ll bring them down again now that we have a strangle hold on the world’s oil. The economy is in the best position its been in for a long, long time. Manufacturing is up. Jobs are up. Energy costs are gonna get way better very soon, including electricity. He’s fixing everything.
Tell him to fix the VIkings, please.
Laughing… you know, I bet he could.
Inflation remains at 3.3 percent year over year….and yes that is after the disastrous Biden admin so prices were already high. Trump promised to bring prices down…over all he has not done so. Consumers are suffering and blaming Trump. Therefore, if prices don’t come down the Republican’s are screwed.
There is so much political corruption being revealed now though that many, many politicians are gonna get canned. I really think the midterms will be a bloodbath for the Dem’s.
Some prices have dropped. They were stupid crazy high when Biden was in charge.
But overall, the democrats will likely gain seats for sure. That’s history. Party out of power gains seats in off year elections.
How much????
Depends on the turnout.
wonder what mick is up to these days and if he still has his Walz poster up in his chicken coop
I agree with gou. Prices have to be the next focus
Why do we need a new thread when we have nothing to discuss?
We can discuss whether or not we need a new thread?
So you like looking at naked dudes???
Thanks for the new thread Surly.
And of course FTP as always.
waldo is better than David Spade
And a rec for a hot waldo cheerleader
She looks better every year.
She certainly looks younger every year.
I wonder how she manages that??
#grin
Good morning, SKOL!
FTP!
She looks great, but I always hate that score listed on the bottom.
