We’re nearing the end of this work week, and we have the first Vikings preseason game to look forward to this weekend! For the first time since January, we get to see our beloved purple and gold take the field, albeit in a preseason game. I’m going to watch the center position very closely, as it’s the main area of concern on the team right now, and I’ll also be watching to see if any of the tight ends can do something to draw some positive attention. With Irv out, and with his recent injury history, we may need to count on these backup tight ends again this year, so hopefully one or more of them can show some promise.

Personally, I think the coaching staff is rotating many players just to see what they look like with the 1st string. That’s the right strategy to evaluate talent.
I coached basketball and I always rotated in B squad players with the A squad at practice. I wanted to 1. See how they were with the A squad, and 2. Give the kid confidence that they played with the A squad. I know it’s not pro football, but I think it’s a wise coaching strategy.
