The Game: Offense
The Vikings-Jets game was pretty much what I expected. Kirk was off from the start, but came back and managed to do enough, it wasn’t a stellar night overall. Dalvin seemed to be getting yards, but wasn’t used as much as I expected him to be used. The running backs accounted for the first two touchdowns, and the third was a brilliant throw by Kirk to JJ in the end zone.
The Game: DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS
The defense looked okay in the first half, and worse in the second half. Going into the half up by fourteen, and getting the ball first coming out of the half, you just knew the Vikings were going to let the Jets back in it. We KNEW it was coming, there was no doubt, and sure enough, that’s what happened. The Vikings defense performed very well in the red zone, as they have over the past couple weeks. Mick pointed out that they’ve allowed only one touchdown in 9 red zone opponent visits over the past two weeks.
Greg Joseph had a great game yesterday., he hit every field goal attempt and extra point. Wright hit the ball well, and coverage teams seemed to do their job.
The Game: SUMMARY
At the end of it all, the Vikings got a win against a good opponent. The Minnesota Vikings are now ten and two on the year, and have all but wrapped up the NFC North. We don’t get years like this very often, so I’m going to enjoy it. This is fun, ain’t it? SKOL!!!!!!!

I lot of people have been killing him on the site, but look at him; a 3rd round rookie, won the starting position, struggled at first, but we have seen some steady improvement. What I like about him is that he does not get penalized often (remember our right guard last season!). very nice to see the young man grow and contribute

then you look at his best 1/4 of the season is against Buff, Dal, NE, & NYJ and you go… damn. That’s pretty fn good.

Tonga actually looked pretty good in one game.
The chick who played Topanga got super fat after the show was done, but I think is now normal sized again.
The eye test tells me Kirk was not as good as his PFF score (72.4). He was off all day, missed a lot of throws he usually makes routinely. Jets D did have something to do with it as he was getting murder/death/killed back there. Glad he put it together for that scoring drive (I think he was 6/6 on that drive, including the TD to JJ?) Very happy to see Brandel score that high. I know he gave up at least one sack but as a backup against that D I’m very happy. Jones and Wonnum scores both check out, I think Jones is getting better and better throughout the season. Wonnum lost edge contain on at least 2 Jets plays that got outside. But biggest stat is the W. Well done fellas. My cardiologist gouger also thanks you.
I agree, I’m not sure too many of these grades really align with how I thought the game went but it backs up my Mattison narrative so I’ll just gloss over the rest.
Yeah, he did not look good. Got bailed out quite a few times by his receivers. Also had a drop or two, but Kirk was off for much of the game. Still did enough to win, but his accuracy was off all day.

Why would they do that. It should be a big game between two competitive teams with playoffs implications. Definitely should be primetime.
There are 3 games that Saturday. Who knows why the brain trust at NFL headquarters decided to do that?

Packers have a fairly difficult remaining schedule. Rams, @Miami, Vikings, Lions. Though 3 are home games.
I doubt it but maybe. They are only 2 games out of a wild card spot right now and have 5 to go.
They can’t be eliminated this coming weekend. They’re currently 5-8 on the bye. Seattle is 7-5 and currently holds the #7 seed. If Seattle wins this weekend, they’ll be 8-5 but could still finish the season 8-9 with the Packers possibly finishing 9-8. If Seattle wins their next 2 games and GB loses coming off the bye, then I think the Packers are done. So, if my playoff math is correct, it’ll be at least 2 more weeks before GB can be officially eliminated.
I wonder how much money was spent on that Santa themed World Cup commercial starring Jon Hamm, in a vain attempt to boost American viewing? Oh well, at least that’s over.

Yeah and the schedule is set based on what they think will be good match-ups which is primarily based off of last year’s performance. They should start flexing more games, but likely won’t.

If there are unread comments and you click on it, it will take you to the top unread comment. It only works once though so if you click on it and there are 30 unread comments you go to to the top one and then have to scroll. It works well if there is only one comment, but that means you have to sit and watch the page nonstop all day.

Had a discussion with a teenager last week about rap music. How I do like rap/hip-hop but so much of the stuff released is so lazy. If you haven’t heard Hopsin he is a good rapper imo. This song is exactly how I feel about much of what is released today though. He nails it haha.

I saw some of it. Fields actually made a few very nice throws and ran for about 80 yards. Not sure what the box score will show, but for a while he looked like a real QB back there.
I just don’t see any way in hell our luck doesn’t run out at the Kitties next week. They just demolished Jax who had been playing quite well lately. Lions currently have the 6th ranked ohfense in football (though their defense is dead last 32nd in both yards and points, somehow even worse than ours).

What are our thoughts on how we handled the last 1:30 of the game? I watched the entire second half at a bar so I was distracted and talking to people but I wasnt a fan of us getting the stop on 4th down and just running it 3 times and giving them the ball back to go right down the field on our trash D.
Exactly. They had a 3rd and 7 with a first down that wins the game and they didn’t even try. If you are going to punt anyway, why not at least TRY a pass to the sticks. That was horrific.
Agreed and if I remember the score correctly (maybe I don’t) even the risk of a safety wasn’t a huge risk because we’d get to punt with better field position.
No, a safety would have made it a 3 point game–so the Jets would have only needed a FG to tie in that case. They were getting in the red zone in 1 or two plays against us, let alone FG range. LOL.

I would not have been a fan of throwing the ball. If the ball gets dropped or knocked down you leave the Jets a TO. Running x 3 was the correct call IMO.
Even after they easily drove down the field and were still in position to win the game (and likely do with a better QB)? I’d say that proved running the ball was NOT the right decision. Go for the win when your defense can’t tackle falling leaves.

Agree to disagree. Kirk had the yips from pressure and hits…as soon as he sniffed pressure while standing 5 yards inside the EZ he would have thrown it away.
It wouldn’t have been from the end zone though. Ball was the 5 and they needed 7 yards. Easily could have tried a 2 step drop with a slant or out. Like I said, with hope of a run after catch which still runs the clock even if no first down. Instead they lost 2 yards on a run.

Same as how somebody can place a bomb in a highly patrolled and camera’d area, have the Secret Service sweep the area with dogs, not find said bomb and then never be caught. Either sheer incompetency or some sort of cover up.
The fact the police weren’t called until like 8-9 hours after the crime really made things difficult too.

Hate to see it drag on. Would suck to be in Moscow, you’d be looking over your shoulder all day and hearing noises at night. The longer the investigation drags on the more I can see a difficult time proving guilt for whoever ends up being charged.

You can speculate – the two girls, one of whom was target, were in same room. Noises woke up the two nearby roommates, who had been at a party (intoxicated?). Maybe gf went to investigate, bf heard her cry out, etc…the first floor roommates were also presumptively intoxicated and/or may have had noise cancelling headphones on which are all the rage in a noisy dorm or college apartment environment. FWIW I wish I had noise cancelling headphones in college, every weekend one was lucky to catch 60 minutes of uninterrupted sleep.
I think 3 different rooms were hit. Guy and girl in same room. Then two other girls who each had own room. There was also defense wounds on at least two of the victims, so had to be loud screaming, banging around, etc.
Well, none of us know for sure but Goncalves’ father has stated he believes his daughter was primary victim, and that the two best friends were sharing a bed that night. Loud noises, yelling, etc I agree but I also know I’ve had a couple of nights in my younger days when I would have blown it off to “those assholes are playing hall hockey at 3 am again” (a real thing with my roommates).

Per multiple reports, Mayfield asked for his release from the Panthers. Presumably that’s because he hopes to land somewhere he can play over the final weeks of the regular season. Many have pointed to the 49ers as a possibility given Jimmy Garoppolo‘s season-ending injury, but there was reportedly some interest from the Seahawks this offseason and teams like the Rams and Texans could see Mayfield as a better option than the ones currently available to their offenses.

9ers makes the most sense, IMO. If he has to clear waivers (I’m interested in hearing someone’s opinion on this), then some scrub team will sign him, or try to.
He does have to clear waivers since it is post-trade deadline.

Didn’t post it here at the time, but heard a radio interview of Rhule when he signed with Colorado. They asked him , reflecting on your time with Panthers, what would you do differently. He said, take a different job. Said he was supposed to have five years, was rushed to win in two years, bragged about what a good job he did, would have dominated that division for years. Tepper did push him to sign a star vet QB, but this guy’s ego won’t ever allow him to learn from mistakes.
I think he’s wrong but he does have a point. They drafted and tried to build the team with the expectation of having 4 or 5 years to do it and then he was fired before being able to see the plan through. I think he even said that if he knew they were trying to win now then they would have made more trades and signed more vets.

They ran the ball more to set up 3rd and short.
Kirk hits TJ on that second drive of the 3rd quarter and we got another 30-40 yards. TJ was behind the CB or LB that was covering him, and the safety was up in a run blitz. He’s either in for a TD or gets run down from behind if Kirk hits him with that pass.
JJ also dropped a ball on either the second or 3rd drive that was about a 20 yard pass.
The offense self destructed on 2 of those drives.
The Hock play was an absolute incredible play call and design. We saw something and knew we had them. Kirk absolutely blew that throw. It should have been an easy over the shoulder catch in stride TD.
JJ drop was real bad. Have to catch those on days where Kirk is inaccurate.

I know we have a separate section for smoker recipes but it isn’t a real active space. I have a couple buddies with a BUNCH of pheasant breasts and plan is to smoke those up on Sunday and have with the game. I have never smoked pheasant from what I read online is to bacon wrap them. That’s simple enough, bacon and toothpicks. But my question is if I want to put a rub on the breasts (giggity) do you you but a binder and rub on the breasts and then wrap (this is what I am thinking) or do you add that after it’s been wrapped?

Kirk finished the game with a QBR of 75.8 and a QB rating of 82.2.
I usually think QBR is the better metric, but this would imply it was one of Kirks best games this year. He made some good plays and took some hard hits, but missed open guys way more than I was comfortable with.
