Vikings @ Bears
The Vikings went into Soldier Field yesterday and got a win against the Bears. I know the Bears are a 3-14 team, but getting a win there on the road is never a gimme, so it was good to see the Vikings handle business and not make it harder than it had to be.
I loved what I saw from Kirk in the first half, as he was razor sharp (with the exception of the decision to throw that last pass at the end of the first half). Dalvin looked good, minus the fumble, and Mattison looked great. Reed still struggled with the snap count at times, but seemed to do better with it than last week. The rest of the O-line held up very well. In the second half, Irv Smith got some playing time, and made the most of it. He stood out for good reasons on a few occasions. Another guy who made the most of his opportunity to see the field was Jaylon Nailor, as he made a few nice looking plays in the second half. KJ put up another solid outing. The starters played the first half, then most of them sat in the second half. Mullens filled in pretty well at QB, minus one ill-advised throw that resulted in his only interception.
The defense did a really good job yesterday. Yes, I’m aware that it was against the Bears, but the Vikings defense has had a habit of making bad offenses look good all year, and they didn’t do that yesterday, so I’ll consider that a win. Duke Shelley really looked good when he got more playing time in the second half.
Greg Joseph missed the PAT on the first touchdown of the game. After that, he hit everything they asked him to kick. He also hit one at the end of the first half that didn’t count. He did enough to make you happy, but threw that missed PAT in there just to let you know that you’d better not take any kick for granted in the playoffs. Can you imagine if the fate of a playoff game hanging in the balance of a 45 yard field goal? How would your nerves be with Greg Joseph lining up to kick that 45 yarder? Or any yarder?
Yikes, this is going to be a stressful playoff run. You’d expect nothing else from this year’s Vikings. In the end, the Minnesota Vikings end the 2022-23 regular season with a 13-4 record. They’re the NFC North champions and are the 3rd seed in the NFC heading into the playoffs.

Packers can recoup any bonus already paid but yet to hit the salary cap if he retires. Sounded like he said he’ll take some time but it won’t play out like last years drama.

If we drive, I’m just not sure about parking the car anywhere. If there are lots south of the stadium that are safe to park in, that would be optimal. The hotel is south of the stadium, so I’d like to park a mile or so south and then walk. That way, when we leave, we can get away from the madness on foot before we drive. I dunno. Still contemplating this.

Five might be right on the uber thing…we generally park fairly far south for less than $20, I have felt safe just because there are so many people.

If you decide to go on the light rail, when I lived down there it was super easy to park on the street near the 50th St station. Or you could park at Minehaha Falls (free but idk how much is plowed/available) and it’s a short-ish walk from there.
You do want to get on earlier (closer to MOA) if you are taking the light rail closer to game time, because it fills up quickly.
I always either stayed at a hotel within walking distance or took the light rail to Mall of America.
We have a hotel at the Great Wolf Lodge. We’ll have our car, but driving would fucking suck. I abhor light rail, but I can handle it for one round trip if need be.
I’d really rather avoid light rail. I don’t like getting in a tube that’s crammed full of people.
If you hang around stadium for an hour or so the LRT will be much less crowded.

They did just go 5-1 in the division and could have easily swept it. They are very talented but also very young. Goff played better than any other QB in the NFC North this season but is he really the long term QB for them? We’ll see how good they continue to be after their OC leaves for a HC job this offseason.
Lions have potential, definitely will be in top 2 next year. Rodgers is done and Bears will still need a year to put it all together.

When I was watching the game, the only thing I could figure is that the Packers are so used to the refs favoring their team that their players now see themselves as an extension of the officiating crew.
He knew they were going to call T.O. He didn’t want the kicker to get a chance to practice. Dumb, and so was the the shove to the face that cost them 15 yards.
Reasoning is correct but that is unsportsmanlike. Like a basketball player practicing getting set at the free throw line while a substitution is taking place and you kick the basketball.
Also – Mike Tomlin is the best coach in the league. 7-2 in their last 9 games to preserve his winning season record with QBs who can’t throw for 200 yards a game and fewer team rushing TDs than Jamaal Williams got on the season.
