Anyone here experience intermittent mail delivery? I swear there are days a truck doesn’t show.
Not me, but in a town near to me this past summer they were short of delivery drivers so some people were only getting mail once or twice a week.
Rural drivers are hard to find. Would be an alright gig, drive around the country & deliver mail. Take the .222 along in case you see a coyote.

My in-laws are die hard Chevy backers, which still doesn’t make sense to me. Last 3 vehicles for them:
Mine has 190,000 miles, not a single issue with it. Had to replace the cooler lines when they began to leak, but that’s it and I drive the shit out of it, lots of off-road miles and stuff. Love it. 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71 with the All-Terrain package. 6.2 liter, 400+ horse.
His Silverado? Same motor, never rebuilt, over 750,000 miles. Rebuilt the transmission at 640,000 or so.

True story, we have several mail delivery persons, and have had items delivered to the mailbox like eggs from their chickens, pecan and lemon meringue pies, fudge, and a ham. I’d like to say it is people paying my bills but more about my wife and recovering from surgery.

This is cool. It’s been a while, but I’ve posted before about the local MN Vikings fan club and the bar where they watch the games. What I didn’t know is how active that group is in raising money for charity. They recently raised $4,500 for a place that houses troubled teens.

I think he’s a pretty good coach, but mostly he’s a local guy that folks think will stay. Folks are tired of the turnover. His dad is a long term sort of king of high school football here in the Ville.
Should add he’ll be able to get any of the local talent he wants because of his dad’s influence over high school football.

I posted on the DN for the first time since I left there. Wanted to try to get people to join the get-together before the game.

I didn’t know the timeline and all what happened. Is there a short version of what all went down?
Chorus was the original commenting platform with the z key, VOX paid chorus to use the platform. VOX outright bought a different platform called Coral. Coral sucked and was much different than Chorus. They switched to Coral with very little notice and it really really sucked, you had to constantly click a tab that said see more comments, basically unusable. Eventually they mostly fixed stuff and it was ok but still not great but at least z key was back. Then the Coral overlords seemed to get really out of hand, banned Freezey and PPB for saying pansy, DN mods unbanned them but it was the beginning of the end. Brad and Rob eventually left, why is not my story to tell so I leave that to them.
The two things that stuck out for me (I was a late leaver of Coral DN)…why did they roll it out to the NFL sites first, leaving (for example) the less populated sites such as the college football or hockey sites using the Chorus platform for over a year while forcing the DN and others to be the guinea pigs…and the emergence of strict content filtering which effectively muted any spirited interactions. I would imagine they thought by taking the spice out of the threads they would attract a horde of vanilla ice cream lovers but given comment counts I would say the expected tide of moderates failed to materialize.
They don’t care about commenters, many of the largest volume DN commenters would sit on the site all day, no extra ad revenue for that.

I would guess they didn’t expect such backlash. Why they chose NFL sites is beyond me but my guess is they planned to push it through very quickly across the rest of sites but the near mutiny from people like us seemed to give them pause and it was like another year at least before they forced it on all others.

To give a little more context, Lifer or V22 (IIRC) created a thread on the Daily Gopher for those of us who still wanted to use Chorus because coral was an abomination and sucked worse than Rodgers in high pressure games.
Several people that had been banned on the DN found their way to that thread on the DG, and we had a nice little community going over there, with much free speech (that got gradually erased by the Vox collie molesters on the DN), politics, many hawt taeks and whatnot. Some DN mods used to call it bizarro DN… 😉
Be that as it may, most of us are here now, and that´s a good thing.
I started TDG thread, but I quit doing it pretty quickly after people couldn’t be respectful, then Lifer started posting it, but then he got banned by TDG admins for being racist, then V22 started posting it. Lifer eventually came back though with a new account or whatever and continued posting.

I left because of Coral. Tried to provide feedback to the people who you could actually email, but it really seemed like their hands were tied.
I actually did several zoom calls with developers to explain why it was such a piece of shit, I even was respectable about it. It finally seemed to dawn on them that at the DN its like 1/2 chatroom 1/2 content with users. They got the z key implemented not too long after the last meeting. It was ok for a while after that, but then it seemed like Vox decided their overlords would do the moderating instead of the actual DN mods.

Chorus to Coral hurt, but Rob & I had the OT rolling again after that. The part that pissed me off was when the SBNation moderators started moderating our site, deleting posts and suspending people. Came to a head when they suspended pete and freeze. GA reinstated them.I got into an email war with them over the whole deal. I eventually said fuck it & quit. After a few months, I missed writing, and everyone needed a place to go since the Daily Gopher was being infected with Vox, so this place came to be.
And we’re thankful for that effort.
I may not get on here as much anymore due to life circumstances, but I appreciate that this place is around and available. Thanks B-rad!

About 47 million U.S. households use gas appliances, according to the federal Energy Information Administration. Some of these devices are not well maintained and leak benzene into the house. It’s like not maintaining the exhaust system in your car. If it is in ill repair it can leak carbon monoxide into the car. So banning 47 million devices is not really practical, prudent, or pragmatic. Just make sure you have a routine to have your gas appliances inspected OR invest in a detector that alerts you when something is leaking.

The fact – natural gas isn’t just pure methane (which burns clean), there are other gases present that can be very detrimental to your health once the stove gets older and/or falls into a state of disrepair.
The NYC proposal – grandfathering in current gas stoves and any new buildings will use electric (which now far outperform gas stoves, too).
But a couple of grifting republicans can scream “You’re never taking my gas stove/incandescent lightbulbs/X/Y/Z – you can pry it from my cold dead hands!!1!1!” and people fucking lap it up like they’re actually coming to take your stoves LOL. This is literally a South Park skit.
