I haven’t heard a ton of news coming out of minicamp. When we do hear news, expect it to be along the lines of “<insert name here> is playing at an All-Pro level, I expect our <specify offense or defense> to be unstoppable. Oh well, at least we have baseball and fishing. Preferably both…..at the same time.
Speaking of baseball, it’s been a fun year to be a both a Braves fan AND a Twins fan. The Braves are eviscerating the Rangers, it’s 12-0 as of this writing, and look to strengthen their lead in the NL East. The Twins just got started against the Dodgers as I write this, let’s hope they can continue their hot streak and extend their own divisional lead in the AL Central (I almost called it the AL North).

Interesting analysis and it certainly seems “unfair” on the surface, but I wish he would have provided some data regarding relative rest advantage vs winning %. It’s easy to say a rest advantage is a benefit but, historically, how much has it impacted the outcome of games?
Would think more rest has got to be beneficial last quarter of season. Don’t know about outcomes per se but KC is going to have a harder time going 6 -0 in that period than they might have under under normal rest.
Noted here last week that teams went 0-16 the week after they played 49ers. This schedule may temper that some.
It’s just another angle to look at regarding how the schedules are built.

Absolutely correct they can pick and choose advantages but not necessarily winners…Vikings open up week one at home against the Bucs 4 day turnaround at the Eagles on Thursday night. Advantage, disadvantage….I don’t know both teams quick turnarounds we have to travel, might be healthier to face them they will be also. We have a later bye week which is good…lots to figure out but it is extreme complex.

Today took me longer than an hour altogether, showering & what-not. I run 7 miles in under 50 minutes nowadays.
It’s about 8.5 miles from my house to work. I can do that in about 15 minutes in the morning usually.
I think it’s 6.5 miles for me, takes me about 12 minutes going the scenic route along the river. I can normally do it in 10 minutes via interstate. Right now, it takes forever because of road destruction.

None of the good ones (sheep, goat, moose, bison). I got my elk permit for archery season, but it is basically guaranteed as long as you don’t screw up you application. Still waiting on cow elk permits and antelope. Also in another drawing for a bison and have a few tickets for the bison raffle I shared yesterday. September 2 is opening day of archery so only 109 days to go. Hopefully get out in the next week or two and start hanging some trail cameras to get me through the summer.

They’re awesome. I have a few and set them to send pictures every morning. Being able to put them a few hours away and not have to hike in to check them is awesome. I have a hard time finding cell service at times but can usually make it work. It makes it so you don’t have to keep going in to check them and pushing animals around too. With once a day transmission the batteries last at least a month.
He gets up a fair amount. About 2 1/2 hours out. Has groomed trails. His land has everything. Water, cover, food plots. Wish i had something like that.
Nice. I hate waiting to see what’s on the cameras so I love that I can see the pics every morning. I usually try to set it for when I wake up or right after I get to work. Makes the day start off good.
I got a new one this winter that does video too so I’m excited to get that one out. Especially if I can find a good wallow later this summer.

I think you have to subscribe to their premium service which I believe is $4.99 per month or around $50 for an annual subscription. That said, I do think it’s also going to be available on NFL+ but, as far as I’ve heard, it’s not going to be on the new YouTube “Sunday Ticket” package, which sucks because I was planning to have that replace my “need” for NFL+ (I used to watch the delayed broadcast on games I couldn’t see live). But “in market” fans will be able to watch it on their local broadcast.

That was pretty funny. I know a lot of people don’t like him, but for game calls he is one of the best in the league I think. Since most of the football season overlaps with hunting season I am in the mountains for a lot of games and have listened to a lot of the broadcasts. A couple of the worst off the top of my head are GB and Carolina. Zero information unless it is a play by the home team. They will completely skip plays. It’ll be a call like “Vikings ball, 2nd and 5 on the 45, touchdown. Rodgers sure looks good today.”
I guess if you look at it as a comedy routine, it works.

It’s horrible. The GB guys are as bad as the University of Montana broadcasters. “1st down, handoff, 45, 50, TD.” I get that his enthusiasm bugs some people but he does a good job describing the play. I don’t think I’d enjoy listening to him with a tv broadcast, but radio is good.

I had some pretty fulfilling spreadsheet action today. Previously, we were using 15 different files to track weather data. On any given month, you had to go between four of them to find data for a summary sheet. I combined them all into file with multiple tabs with stuff cross-referenced, so I only have to enter it once instead of multiple times. Fixed all of the average calculations. Automated it to flag record temps.

This was a trip down memory lane…after reading this hopeful but ultimately sad 2014 post draft Barr write up knowing Zimmer’s biggest mistake as HC was passing on Donald (close second cutting Carlson) I have zero faith Flores is going to somehow get this defense in to the top 14 of the league.

Unlike some, I hesitate to call this a reach, and for two reasons. One, Barr has all the upside in the world. He’s an impressive athlete with raw, moldable tools, given he’s only played on the defensive side for two years. Despite just 27 career games at outside linebacker, he still managed 23.5 sacks and 41.5 tackles for loss in the Pac-12. Second, he’s going to a defense run by Mike Zimmer. If anyone in the league can turn a physical specimen like Barr into a player, it’s Zimmer. And who is in position to question his eye for defensive talent? Watch Barr turn into a monster under Zimmer’s watch.
Flores is maybe the most interesting storyline of next season for me. I have no problem with any defensive players from previous seasons getting purged in the process.

Would be a very tall order to bring this defense from 31 to 14. Zimmer had the benefit of being the HC and drafting who he wanted for his defense, Flores gets what KOC (and Queasy) OKs as his HC. If he manages to get the defense into the low 20ies he would have done a very good job.
Zimmer sucked…he had about two decent defenses, always ignored the offense, he was a curmudgeon who didn’t belong being a HC and that was the very reason he was passed over so many times. Look at his window below….pathetic with the GM he had giving him the position to draft the right players he needed. He took fucking Anthony Barr over Aaron Donald lol…he was supposed to be a defensive guru and he couldn’t see the talent in a HOF 3tech sitting there so he took a converted RB OLB who’d played the position 2 yrs??? Guy was a fraud. We take Donald in 14 we probably win a SB in 17.

No, the Bucs have never won the NFC North (it would be pretty weird for a team in FL to be in a North division and it was stupid they were ever in the Central division with 4 midwest teams, but I digest) but neither have the Lions. As much crap as we’d like to talk about the other teams, the Bears have won the North division about as many times as the Vikings and the Packers have pretty much dominated it since its inception in 2002. I had to look it up. The last time the Lions won the division was 1993. The last time they won a playoff game was 1991. The playoff game in 1991 is the only playoff game the Lions have won since the AFL/NFL merger.

Ali, Spinks, Holmes, Tyson…. I remember watching all of those fights.

Looks like boxing went out of style some time ago. Ot it was made to go out of style.
Couple factors made boxing less appealing than in the glory years of Hagler, Herns, Sugar Ray, Duran, heavyweights above. Corruption within the promoters and governing bodies of the boxing commissions ruined a lot of it and many a great fighter. Hard to find a guy that can fight but also can understand the business side well enough to not be taken advantage of.
MMA came along and ran legitimately well enough to take 80% of the market share of viewership and the young cultures attention to what is now viewed as good professional fighting.
Only a few top boxers reach the limelight today and actually face a good opponent and put on a good competitive fight. Might happen once every few years if that now.
Corruption played a big part. Also today some feel as if they are “too civilized” to watch people pound on each other.

Yeah, boxing was huge when I was growing up. My parents would take vacations to Vegas for the big fights. I was 14 when they finally took me.
We went to the weigh-in for Sugar Ray v. Duran. Dad had 2 big cameras around his neck, worked his way down to the ring, another press guy already in the ring spotted him, helped him up into the ring for closeups.

I don’t follow anymore, either. Tyson was a beast, I loved watching him fight. I was a Virgil Hill fan, of course, and was also a Roy Jones Jr. fan when he fought. I haven’t watched much since back then.

He is currently undefeated with the only blemish on his record being a draw, here’s a clip from that fight where he gets rocked but gets up and then dominates the rest of the fight. Fun fact, he was named after Mike Tyson.
