Wow, we ask for something big to happen, and we sure got our wish yesterday! Yesterday, the Vikings signed the running back who led the entire world in rushing last year (the XFL world, anyway). I would imagine that this move will push the Vikings to the top of the major power rankings, other teams should be VERY worried.

Minnesota Vikings News:

Alright, well the Vikings can stop worrying about their running game after losing Dalvin Cook. The Vikings signed RB Abram Smith, who led the ENTIRE XFL in rushing last year, acccording to MSN.

The Duluth News Tribune brings us a recap of last night’s Vikings night practice, the first night practice of this preseason with thousands of fans in attendance.

Vikings.com gives us three observations from last night’s practice at Vikings training camp.

ESPN has a list of the 2023 bye weeks for all 32 NFL teams. The Vikings’ bye week is week 13, which is a later bye week than I remember the Vikes having in quite a while. It seems like they’ve been getting early bye weeks every year in recent years. Maybe I’m just losing it.

The Browns came back to defeat the Jets in the Hall of Fame Game, final score was 21-16 Browns, per CBS Sports.

The Packers’ President has been named in the Northwestern hazing lawsuit, from CBS Sports. There is no hazing in the Packers’ organization. You’re already forcing guys to live in Green Bay, I can’t think of a hazing that would be any worse than that punishment.

The Bears have signed Yanniock Ngakoue to a one-year, $10.5 million deal, according to NFL.com. I’m not sure what the all-time record is for number of teams played for, but Ngakoue has to be close to breaking it. Also at NFL.com, they listed numbers 11-20 in the NFL Top 100, and the Titans released RT Jamarco Jones after multiple training camp fights. Man, we’re only a week into camp and this guy has gotten into multiple fights? I’d hate to see how the dude behaves when there’s an opposing team on the field. It seems like he may need some anger management, maybe give yoga and/or meditation a shot.

Video of the Day:

Here is the immortal legend Waylon Jennings with Drinkin’ and Dreamin’. Waylon had his own sound, and is one of the best ever. Enjoy!

To make room for RB Abram Smith, the Vikings waived fullback Zach Ojile the team announced on Friday.

Rookie Ojile had a successful rookie tryout and he received a contract in May. His hometown is Blaine, Minnesota, and he played college football at the University of Minnesota Duluth, mostly as a tight end.

Obama biographer says ex-president ‘as insecure as Trump,’ would be ‘terrible’ on SCOTUS in stunning interview
Some highlights:

-Obama’s first memoir was fictionalized

-The feature began with a tale of Sheila Miyoshi Jager, who was Obama’s girlfriend in the 1980s well before his political career, allegedly saying their relationship ended when “he would not condemn antisemitism.”

-“With Alex [McNear, Obama’s girlfriend at Occidental College], I think she wanted to have her role known. So when Alex showed me the letters from Barack, she redacted one paragraph in one of them and just said, ‘It’s about homosexuality,’” Garrow said before explaining that a man named Harvey Klehr was tasked with going through the letters, which are at Emory University.

“He’s spent his whole life at Emory, but they won’t let him take pictures. So Harvey has to sit there with a pencil and copy out the graph where Barack writes to Alex about how he repeatedly fantasizes about making love to men,” Garrow said.

-“He further accuses [Obama] of inventing a racial identity struggle that never happened and retrofitting his early life story to conform to it,”

-“He lives in a large brick mansion in Kalorama. Doesn’t it strike you as weird that he’s an ex-president, he’s comparatively young, and he’s living in the center of Washington, D.C.? The original excuse was that Sasha had to finish school. Then you could say, ‘Well, the opposition to Trump needs a figure to rally around.’ But now Sasha has graduated from USC, Trump is gone, Joe Biden was elected present, but he’s still there,” he said.

“Doesn’t that strike you as odd? I mean, I have heard from more than one source that there are regular meetings at Obama’s house in Kalorama involving top figures in the current White House, with Secret Service and cars outside. I don’t write about it because it’s not my lane,” Samuels continued. “There are over a thousand reporters in Washington, and yet there are zero stakeouts of Obama’s mansion, if only to tell us who is coming and going. But he clearly has his oar in.”

-“He’d be terrible on the Supreme Court because he’s too lazy. This is in the book. It goes back to him being Hawaiian. At one point, he says, ‘I’m fundamentally lazy and it’s because I’m from Hawaii.’ That’s close to the actual quote,” Garrow said.

Sources: NFL is suspending Saints RB Alvin Kamara 3 games for his role in a fight outside a Las Vegas nightclub in 2022. Kamara reached a plea agreement in July, and no longer is facing a felony charge for his role in the fight that occurred before the Pro Bowl in February 2022.

What we need is something like this for the entire Eagles team for week two… grin.

Reports from camp make it sound like Cine’s issue isnt coming back from the injury, its between his ears and processing the role and being in the right position. Im 60/40 on him being a bust at this point. You can be physically gifted but if you dont have it between the ears you are done in the NFL.

Read this week that they might get left behind as the Pac 12 disintegrates.
The two Arizona School and Utah are expected to go to the Big 12.
USC and UCLA already headed to the Big 10.

Wash St, Oregon St, Cal, Stanford will be the only ones left.
Pac 4? doesn’t sound nearly as good.

the jobs print from every single month has been revised lower! Why? So that the White House can take credit for a strong number (one which also sparks algorithmic buying in the market) only to quietly revise it lower one and two months later when nobody is looking.

this reminds me of a bit of history you may recall.
In 2012, unemployment had been high for some time. Several months before the election, Rush limbaugh predicted it would come down to 7% right before the election. Sure enough, right on time the number (7) came out right before the election and was used as a political prop. Then, of course after the election. the number was revised just like above.

NC is pretty nice we get all fours seasons but Spring and Fall can be abbreviated. Can get humid in the summer but really not that bad but I’m a southern boy so use to it. Now places like Columbia, SC are on a different level of hot and humid…those places bother me even…just too stifling.

GA Skol – I’m sure they told you, but keep this in mind to prevent a surprise:

The life cycle of sperm is 63 days. 80% of men will be sterile after 15 ejaculations or 6 weeks after a vasectomy. By 10 weeks, 85% of men will have no sperm in the ejaculate. Therefore, a safe time period to say would be approximately 3 months (12 weeks) after vasectomy with about 20 ejaculations.

Once in hollow position, pack shoulders, then pull up.

He’s a bust been saying it since we drafted him before he ever stepped on the field. He has all the bad traits you don’t want in a corner.

  1. Unintelligent aggressiveness. Just goes without thought or strategy, overruns plays, misses tackles and gets a lot of PI and holding calls.
  2. Injury plagued. Has been hurt every year for 5 straight years going back to college. Injures himself often being to aggressive trying to make the big hit.
  3. Doesn’t know the calls and does not process what he sees and does not learn. Gets beat hence the penalties and getting beat. Not a smart heady player.

Minnesota now in the business of funneling state money to communities that have been disproportionately affected by enforcing the laws against marijuana use.

Its one thing to legalize pot, but quite another to pay reparations based on enforcing the laws that were on the books.

Ukraine is a very corrupt country with a lot of bad things going on. Russia invading them though puts the world at risk due to the strategic and economic gains they would garner if successful. Ukraine has been the buffer between Russia and the NATO countries for decades and now that buffer is threatened. To keep Europe (and the rest of the world) safe from Putin, keeping Ukraine free is a tactical necessity. When Russia took over Crimea, we knew this day was coming, and Trump made it clear to Putin he would not allow Russia to take over Ukraine. Biden was just what the doctor ordered though, allowing Putin to do whatever he wanted, and of course went the “sanctions” route to deter a military invasion. Then our politicians play Ukraine up as a victim to authorize hundreds of billions of tax payer money to fight a proxy war.

These are the idiots Putin prayed for.

You’re probably right about strategic importance, but I’m not completely sold on that – too much on the domino theory and Viet Nam during my younger days.
Still, I’d feel a lot better if The European countries were footing the majority of the bill.

The U.S. is far from the only country fighting this war by Proxy, but we are the heaviest contributor. This is not a domino theory BTW. Although much of the struggle is military from a geostrategic perspective, that is not where the story ends. Ukraine’s economy, resources and the country’s bountiful rare earth elements are also the motives. Plus all the access to the Black Sea and it’s oil reserves would be under total Russian control.

Russia has wanted the Ukraine for a long, long time for the reasons listed above. Putin understands he is aging, and his chances to pull this off were waning. When Biden was elected, he decided to make his move.

Cigna had it as

I would like to clarify the “Ukrainians are a bunch of criminals” comment.

I’d agree to some extent.

I’ve talked with a somewhat distant relative (great grandfathers were brothers) who is a Russian speaking Ukrainian in Odessa.

He would 100% agree that the countries politicians are corrupt. However, they see the source of the main corruption as the system Russia left behind, and believe that by moving towards the European union they can escape the current corrupt model.

He explained the Russia model as a system of “kompromat” on Facebook. Kompromat is a Russian stable for doing business and politics. It is dirt that each and everyone keeps on their underlings.
Basically every billionaire ogliarch has stolen or taken government bribes. They have to or they are thrown out of the political system.
This way everyone above them can literally charge them with corruption, and you have power over those below you.

An interesting example he pointed out was Roman Abramovich. This is the guy that owns the Soccer clubs in England (he thought I might know who this guy was, I really didn’t until a few years ago)He is a billionaire, and Putin sent him off to be governor of the far-eastern province of Chukotka for 7 years in the early 2000s.
Why?
To have dirt on him. This is the system that is in play. Everyone must take money, and everyone above you has the dirt on you. This is also the way Ukraine is run.

So in the minds of the average Russian, they are fighting to free themselves of the Russian model, and embrace a western style of government.

Unfortunately, the desires of the more or less honest people is perverted by the view of their ruling class.

It does not help that Trump has also decided to paint everyone associated with the current Ukranian government as corrupt nazis to further his political career.

I can tell you that there are many good Ukrainians, and they are fighting to rid themselves of this corruption.
And they see the western model of government as the way to get there.

I think it’s much more than the right trying to sell this as a bad look for this administration. Everything always trying to turn something in to Biden’s mistake or fault. Anyway Ukraine although may have illegitimate aspects is not the crime country the right makes it out to be. You look at their history of persecution and it’s ugly so naturally they have issues. They were a functioning democracy headed in the right direction and wanted the next step of being part of NATO because being on the doorstep of Russia was eventually going to go bad because Russia’s economy is built on a house of cards, Putin and his oligarchs have sucked every ounce of treasure out of their country and saw Ukraine as an easy next step to countering NATO and robbing Ukraine of all their resources.

See this for what it is, a blatant invasion by a dictator who’s own economy is teetering with insolvency and now with the war going completely the wrong direction has ensured his own demise. We should be supporting Ukraine in every way possible to end the Putin regime as soon as possible.

Anyways, He pointed out that when Russia attacks a town, first thing they do is hit the hospital, sewage and water treatment plants.
So basically you know that you will be living in your own filth with only a field hospital in case you get wounded.
He doesn’t even disagree with this. He thinks its sound military strategy….he’s probably correct.

He posted that almost no one will surrender to Wagner. They’ll just torture and then kill you.

I blame a huge portion of this on Biden, but for slightly different reasons.
I think his withdrawal from Afghanistan gave Putin the confidence that Ukraine would collapse in a similar manner.

Putin has called himself a modern day Peter the Great. He has made no secret of coveting Ukraine (already took Crimea), Belarus (working on taking through political means), Moldova (Russia has a defacto piece already-Transnistria), Georgia ( he set up a breakway republic called South Ossetia) chunks of Poland and the Balkans.

You talk to people in Poland or the Balkans, and they get it. If Russia is not stopped in Ukraine, they will grab more land. This is no secret. Russian politicians openly talk about taking the Balkans. They even mention taking chunks or all of Poland as well.

Before invading Ukraine Putin published a manifesto on how it was not a real country.

He says the same thing about Poland. Just last week he said this.

“The western territories of present-day Poland are a gift from Stalin to the Poles, have our friends in Warsaw forgotten about this? We will remind you,”

Putin also claimed that Poland owes its independence to the Soviet Union, and that they can and will take it away if they want.

Anyways, I have relatives in Odessa so I’m not really the most impartial person to discuss Ukraine with.

Well it´s not like NATO has been encroaching on Russia in the last decades despite promises to the contrary… Poland, Hungary and others being dumb enough to join NATO, as it were. Yes, Ukraine was the last buffer, without iut NATO would have been directly on Russia´s border. I can understand why Russia doesn´t fancy this development.

This war was set up in at least 2014, after some American three letter agency orchestrated the coup known as Majdan and installed the corrupt regime that is still in power now, making way for takeover of the Ukraine by American interests, aka the Biden crime family and others. After the Ukros started terrorizing and killing the Russian minority and their own people sympathizing with Russia it was only a question of time.

As for Krimea, it was a always part of the Russian state until Khrushchev felt the need to gift it to the Ukrainian Soviet Republic in the 60ies. Ukros don´t have a leg to stand on, I would very much welcome the Russians finishing off that shithole as soon as possible.

We were discussing “energy savings” a week or so ago.
Here is why you can’t trust the “green” nazi’s and the government when they make all of these “saving the environment” claims.

The Biden administration quietly revised its data analysis of gas stove regulations it proposed earlier this year, showing they would produce fewer consumer savings than previously projected.

The Department of Energy (DOE) filed a notification of data availability as part of its ongoing gas stove rulemaking this week, showing that Americans will save 30% less than it said they would under the regulations when they were first proposed in February. The agency’s new analysis showed consumers are now expected to save just 9 cents per month under the gas stove regulations.

“The newly released DOE analysis revises downward the potential energy savings from its original cooking product rulemaking proposal, showing that the savings are even less than DOE originally projected and are almost negligible,” the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), a leading industry group, said in a statement shared with Fox News Digital on Wednesday.

The next revision will show it will cost consumers MORE money to enact these regulations.

Same, we should protect the environment and preserve nature, but I’ve been told since I was a child we need to save and plant more trees, but then I just read scotland cut down millions of trees to make space for wind turbines, doesn’t seem to add up but whatever.

Wind turbine blades can’t be recycled, so they’re piling up in landfills. Companies are searching for ways to deal with the tens of thousands of blades that have already reached the end of their lives, but right now wind turbines are generating a huge environmental impact.

Too heavy and inefficient. Takes more energy to move them they would generate.

What are wind turbine blades made of?
Around 96% of a wind turbine is made from recyclable materials. Their outer shell, shafts, gearing and electrical components are typically made from steel, copper, aluminium, other precious metals and recyclable plastics.1
There are more than 8,000 parts to one wind turbine and they can have an operational lifespan of up to 25 years (most last around 20-25 years).2 They can mostly be recycled at the end of this working life and have increasingly been made from reused materials that have already been recycled.

The blades are made from different materials, most of which is fibreglass. The average blade on a typical onshore wind turbine measures around 165ft (50m) in length. However, there is a growing trend for taller turbines – often found offshore at sea – with blade spans of anywhere up to 260-290ft (80-90m) in length.2

Are the blades disposed of or reused?
Fibreglass is not totally recyclable. It’s non-biodegradable and made up of a composite of very fine strands of plastic and glass, which is extremely difficult to process at the point of recycling. Instead, it’s usually discarded as waste at landfills or incinerated.

However, while most first-generation commercial blades are being treated as waste, not all of them are destined for landfill. There are several innovative ways their raw materials are recycled to be used in other building materials or repurposed entirely in new structures.

Engineers and scientists have found a way to turn fibreglass into a key component used in the production of cement – an important material used in everyday construction. They are also finding ways to repurpose turbine blades as structural elements in their entirety – these include bike sheds in Denmark, noise barriers for highways in the US, ‘glamping pods’ across festival sites in Europe, or as parts of civil engineering projects, such as pedestrian footbridges, in Ireland.3

Interesting to me that they would build a “green” turbine and have massive parts made from non recyclable product.

Thanks for the research, Lifer. My question is what do they do when a blade fails/breaks? I see the major staging operations they do with the road train hauling these blades to the wind turbine site west of us…pilot truck ahead and a couple of flaggers behind…they gonna do that to haul a blade to the landfill or recycling plant? That is a lot of resources dedicated to transporting a blade.

I’m thinking there’s a market for a big portable shredder that you can feed the blades into after end of life, spraying the shredded blade into a dump truck.

It’s not as simple as they cut down a million trees, that’s half the story. Europe is way way ahead of the rest of the world in sustainable eco system management. They’ve been planting and preserving millions and millions of trees for decades. It’s a balance and I guarantee they have the carbon and offset calculations done on that specific wind turbine project to ensure a net effect of energy savings and carbon reduction. It’s written in to their development laws as countries. They can’t get the permits to do such projects without addressing the environmental effects. This is just being used by anti climate rubes as SEE SEE THEY’RE CUTTING DOWN TREES!

Night Practice Overview:

-Second straight practice where Harrison Smith is getting free rushes off the edge as a blitzer in the 2-minute drill. First-team offense struggling to pick those up.

-Addison is just killing it at camp this year. I mean more than JJ did as a rookie, not saying he’s better but he’s routinely burning every corner and safety with his route running precision. Another beautiful redzone vet level TD here:

-Ivan Pace is receiving praise from Flores and getting runs with the 1st defense and making his mark. Seems like he might be a solid contributor.

So making plays and beating the “scrubs” isn’t a bad sign it’s step one in the process, a trend and what practice scrimmages are for. Diminishing them to paint the perception they’re not valuable is just baseline doomerism.

It’s clear he and Kirk have a connection, have had no less than 4 td’s in the past 3 days. If that’s an unvalueable aspect for a rookie to develop in their first professional camp then I guess we should just do away with training camp and practice all together.

Having success in training camp is certainly better than the alternative. We all know that when the real games start we’ll see what the offense has, and if Addison is the real deal then. Hopeful he is.

I’d remind everyone that JJ certainly didn’t flash as much as this kid has. Doesn’t mean he’ll be anywhere near JJ’s level but it bodes well the kid is understanding the offense, where he needs to go and be and is in sync with his QB and has strong hands at the point of contact. Those are great signs for a young WR early in their rookie camp. He’s building from a level most Rookies don’t hit until further in to their rookie season.

Just to clarify, I’m not an Addison hater like Skolly. I thought it was an interesting pick but the right decision if they felt he was truly BPA at the time. I questioned his athleticism initially since I hadn’t really watched him, but it looks to me like he’s athletic enough to get open in the NFL, at least so far against lesser CBs.

Kirk the brain summed up why he’s doing so well….he stated that to be a successful WR in the NFL you have to have a triple compliment of skills,

1. You have to be studious and know the plays and study defenses to be able to understand what you’re seeing and how to adjust to it.
2. You have to naturally be athletic and or physical to create separation.
3. You have to be able to have strong hands at the point of contact, there are very tight windows in the NFL, you will be grabbed, you be hit and there will be other hands on the ball as it comes to your hands.

So far Addison has shown those 3 skills per Kirk.
