Aloha, Skoloholics! That’s right, the long wait is FINALLY over, and (as I predicted earlier) the Vikings have hired Brian Flores to be their new defensive coordinator, according to ESPN.

I think a majority of Vikings fans consider this a huge win by the front office, as they landed possibly the best defensive coordinator candidate available. I know that’s debatable, but Brian Flores is definitely in the conversation. Flores seems like the type who could be a tremendous asset in rebuilding a Vikings defense that has become decimated due to age, injuries, and poor cap strategy in the last few years of the Spielman administration.
I, for one, am beyond happy with this hire. Now it’s time to get to work, it wouldn’t surprise me to see the Vikings begin to make personnel moves on defense after the new league year starts. If Flores can even get this defense to league average by next year, I think most fans would consider that a win. Zimmer took over a similarly horrendous defense in 2014, and within the first year, had them ranked around 14th, so it’s not unheard of.
If nothing else, Flores will bring an aggressive style to the defense. His defenses in Miami were among the league’s most aggressive. That’s fine by me, I’d rather see us get burned because we’re being aggressive & trying to force a mistake instead of just playing back, allowing yards, and hoping for a mistake.
Now we need some CBs that can play man coverage well.

This is good news.
Still need lots of talent upgrades throughout, but at least the bullshit “bend but don’t break” philosophy can GTFO.
Finally, a new DC! Hope Flores will be as good as advertised.
Looking forward to seeing how this plays out. An aggressive defense that plays man coverage, blitzes often and creatively will be far more entertaining than what we had last season.
Also, we have no where to go but up. 😁
