Alright, so the Vikings re-signed Greg Joseph, @which should make our Skoloholics crowd very happy@. I’ll be curious to see how the contract is structured, whether they can cut him with no dead money or not. If they can, then the move makes sense. They at least have an option on the roster this way.

The Baltimore Ravens, who face uncertainty around Lamar Jackson’s future, have been involved in the free agent quarterback market, looking into options such as Baker Mayfield and Jacoby Brissett before they signed elsewhere, league sources told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Baltimore appears to be looking for flexibility.

If he accepts an offer, the Ravens have five days to match or get two first-round picks as compensation.
I won’t be surprised if a team ends up signing him and giving up the 2 first rd picks.

I agree he could have some suitors, but no idea what he’s asking for. If he wants $50M a year in a multi year deal with most or all of it guaranteed, he’s gonna be sorely disappointed. Never gonna happen.
I don’t know if it is foolish to pass on $32 mill when you’re in a position to make $200 mill, maybe a large percentage being guaranteed. Why diminish your value potentially with another injury or poor season and change the perception.
I don’t think he’s worth top 2 or 3 level money but I understand his strategy. I wouldn’t sign the tag.

the whole way the NLF does things is not really fair to the running backs. I mean by the time they are off of their rookie deal they are pretty much washed. Compare that to a lineman who can play at a high level well into his early 30s…RBs get screwed.

Not really, in reality one of the DEs is actually a DT when the edge player rushes outside of him. Hell Dalvin Tomlinson was technically playing DE a fair amount of time last season.

The receiver market hasn’t been breaking the bank. Should be able to bring in a guy like Chark or Campbell pretty reasonable.
Both are young and often injured, I’m sure KAM has boner at the idea of signing them.
Chark has had some really good games, and a 1000+ yard season in 2019, but other than that he’s been meh. 502 last year, 154 the year prior.
Campbell (Paris?) had his best season last year with 623.
Would rather get Thielen back for a year.

DE, I was 5 years old when Fran began playing for the Vikings. I was 13 when he stopped. Tarkenton was a legendary player without a doubt. He was gritty and a true competitor. That said, the only thing he ever did of note was run around a lot and evade tacklers. Still he was/is legendary. Cousins is an exceptional QB but not legendary in any way shape or form. In the modern era the Vikings have not had a QB that has played like Cousins for 5 straight years without injury, while amassing TD totals that only three other QB’s in the league have exceeded. This is comparing Cousins to his contemporaries as well as his historical predecessors. No Vikings QB in their history has thrown 153 TD’s in 5 seasons, or anywhere near that. So when I look across the spectrum, yes, an argument can be made that Cousins has played the position at a higher level for an extended career than any other Vikings QB ever has.

Fran owned every significant passing record – 3,686 pass completions, 47,003 passing yards, and 342 touchdowns when he retired, but he played 18 seasons and 246 games too. I said he was legendary. I don’t think a player can get higher praise than that… do you?

Personally I’m not a fan of individual players, I’m a fan of the team. I like players that make an impact but I don’t get emotionally attached to them, though I used to as a kid.
If Kirk were able to improvise just a little bit, and evade some defenders, his playoff and prime time record would be much better than it is.
Instead, we get more of the stat king and his HoF agent.
Kirk is strictly a pocket passer other than designed roll outs, why interior protection is quite important.
And he’s actually pretty good on designed roll outs which makes the fact that he can’t improvise a little even more confusing.
I think the “he can’t improvise” commentary is overstated. There is plenty of video evidence out there to the contrary. Cousins doesn’t run around as a matter of course which makes it easier on the O-line. They know where he is, so they can protect him.

This is true Ben. When RGIII came to the Redskins all the pundits said “he immediately makes the O-line better”. Their logic was with a mobile QB, sacks would go down. They did somewhat in 2012, because Griffin would almost immediately take off running if his first read wasn’t there. After that though, he tried to run around in the pocket to buy time instead of taking off downfield and got killed. Why? O-line said “we never know what he’s going to do or where he’s going to set up”. Pocket passers make it easier on O-lines, but as you said, make it easier on defenses too.
Yeah I agree it helps the oline to know Kirk is gonna be in the pocket, they just aren’t good internally at keeping defenders out of Kirk’s lap.

Dan Marino may have had the best pocket mobility I’ve ever seen, he was not a runner, but he had an amazing ability to slide and move within the pocket to avoid rushers and buy himself a second more to deliver the ball downfield. He is probably the best ever to never win a SB. He had two great receivers in Clayton and Duper but could have had three if the dolphins hadn’t traded AC to the Vikings.

The players we let go basically had to go due to cost, and age I suppose. Dantzler is a bit of a headscratcher from that perspective as he wasn’t old nor expensive. Maybe they just decided he sucked. The other thing here though is other than Dantzler the guys we let go were significant players. All have been strong contributors, and all seemingly have value and gas left in the tank. Other teams are salivating and celebrating picking them up. So I think the fact we had to let them go for fiscal reasons etc is understandable, it still hurts the team. Necessary, but losing great guys hurts.

i don’t think i would have wanted to resign tomlinson for what he signed for, i’m ok with that, and dantz….he is either hurt or not very good.
As I said, this was a necessary thing, but there are intangibles here that will be lost. Kendricks, Peterson and Thielen were unquestioned leaders on the team. Tomlinson was a strong defensive player. He had an effect on the field. Losing them hurts in my opinion, but it was a necessity.
the two defenders hurt much more than Thielen as far as that impact goes, don’t think the offense will lose much without them, but EK and PP were getting old… we’ll see how they backfill those but I don’t think we’ll see a net positive very quick imo
The only player that has any real effect so far is Tomlinson, PP was replaced by a player who is better at this point and much younger. Thielen is an old replacement level player as WR2. Kendricks sucks and has fallen off a cliff the last two years. The intangibles angle is obviously bullshit because the Vikings defense was loaded with veteran “leaders” with all the intangibles and it produced nothing but a rudderless shitship that got destroyed by a very mediocre offense in the playoffs.

I always got the sense something was off with Dantzler, and his spotty play is reflective of that. He never seemed like he cared to be here that much. I don’t know if it is the NFL in general or just the Vikings. All speculative, to be sure, but I am curious how he will do with another team. I get the feel he just wants to make some money and fade away.
