Wow, slow day yesterday, news-wise. The Vikings are signing some depth players, but that’s about it the past few days. I still think that the team is going to make some moves prior to the draft, as I don’t think they’re happy with the amount of draft picks they currently have. They want to add depth, and they’ve shown that they really want “their guys” on the field as they re-construct the defense.

Yeah, more throwing against air… they know what they’re looking for though (or should). The physical ability to throw the football at a high level is like the bottom rung of the ladder. The thing about NFL QB’s (and this is not lost on head coaches) is their speed to process, especially with bodies swarming all around them in the heat of the play. No way to actually measure that.

I did not. I only saw one heard all season, and it was early on. I was still recovering from a dislocated knee injury I had a few months before. The land owner basically helped drag me up the hill so I could get a shot off in the fog but by time we got up there we lost them. Had I been healthy I coulda hoofed it up the hill faster and had time for one shot at the very nice bull that we saw. Oh well, thats why its hunting. I saw some very beautiful parts of the state and have a good memory so. That’s what I will take from it.

I applied for M10, north and west of Minot.
Did not go to Medora. By time I went out I could hunt all units technically according to the proclamation. I was up around Watford City, Ray (where I actually saw animals) and down by Selfridge ( according to the land owners my uncle knew down there I missed a sizeable heard by about a week, they had moved out by time we got down there).

We were as well haha. It was a strange year, the weather was not great, and I know there was some disease going around destroying the mule deer population, not sure if that did anything to the elk or not but.

Yepper, great fishing north of the border. Our deer hunting section is north of Minot, it runs along the Canadian border. Some great hunting & fishing up in that neck of the woods.

My mom’s family is from the Mohall area, about 50 miles north. My uncle & his fam live in Sherwood, maybe 2 miles from Canada. My uncle was the superintendent & the girls BB coach in Sherwood for MANY years.
My in-laws owed ‘The Barrel Of Fun’ that supplied the region with snacks and goodies for many years.

Only people we have found that don’t like it are kids whose parents moved them away from their ‘friends’ and people up near the border that don’t like the winters.
The list is way too long, and it really does depend on where you live in Idaho.
We did our research and picked a suburb of Boise, Nampa, which has been voted 2x as the best run city in the US.
The winters are similar to Tehachapi Ca when i worked at the Prison. We weak SoCal types couldn’t handle the Minn/ND/Mont winters those guys endure.
It’s really not that hard to endure. Just add a bit more antifreeze to the system.
I live next to Nampa. Be very selective when choosing the location of your house.
Winters are mild – snows and melts within a week.
Skiing 45 minutes up the mountain from Boise.
Hiking all over.
Summers are hot (I hate hot), long, and smoky. Be prepared for bad air alerts during fire season.
Politics is crazy.
Growth is crazy which means traffic is nuts.
Housing market: I was offered 1/2 million for my house last summer. It is not worth that. I wasn’t trying to sell. I got a cold call from a group of investors and they made the offer.
Mostly, I hate it because I am a small town person stuck in the Boise area where there are now too many people. The town I live in was 11,990 people in 1998. It is now 110,000.
I grew up in a town of 76 people, I now live in a metro area of 3 mil, though in a town of 11k. I’m looking forward to the day I get further away from here.
Similar, I grew up in a town of 900. Bismarck is WAY too big for me, but we live next door to the best elementary school in the city, so we’ll stay at least until kiddo finishes 5th grade. I hate living in a place with traffic lights. I have my eye on a large area, waiting for some land to come available there.
A large area out of town, I have a certain chunk where I’d like to live, along the Heart River.
We are on the West side a few miles from Lake Lowell.
As retirees we won’t need to commute for work or drive into town very often.
But yes there are a lot of Political Refugees from Blue states like us that have moved there.
That is a very nice area. I have several colleagues who live near Lake Lowell. The bird migration season is wonderful!
We are not so close as to pay for the privilege but a short car ride or a long walk away.
If you think summers are hot there try the high desert here, 110 deg not uncommon.
If you think Politics are crazy there you have no idea about Calif politics.
Bad air from fire season? Calif got you beat there as well.
We have been down so long that Idaho is up to us.
Hottest place I’ve lived, considering heat and humidity combined, was Mississippi. I loved it, but holy shit, that was hot & humid for a LONG period of time.
Stationed at Ft Hood for 5yrs, the humidity and temp would race each other all summer to see which could get to 90 first.
Oh yeah, I was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston (San Antonio) for AIT. I loved it there.
I would have picked Ft Sam over Ft Hood any day.
Loved the River Walk/the food and the people there.
The Boise market looked insane. I poked around a bit last year when I looked at a position out there. Housing is crazy high.
The place we got went from $268k to $425 in just over a year.
(Per our realtor who said a house in the same development that had less sq ft than ours sold for $415, she predicted that we could get $425 at that point.)
It has slowed some recently but we were lucky/smart to get in when we did.
Wow. Yeah, when I looked, prices were high.
Grass is always greener right??
That’s part of it. I have lived in the Mountain west for about 30 years. Idaho is really the only state in that region I didn’t (don’t) enjoy. However, I love my job and I will stay until I retire.
Everywhere the grass is greener than Calif and NY.
Except Minn which has the same politics and worse winters.

So as a happily married man who has been with his wife for just two months shy of 30 years (we haven’t been married all that time) I enjoy some of the swinging singles stories on this site (I miss Can’tReadGood).
Buddy of mine shared that he was in Denver, went up to a Black woman at a bar (race is notable in Montana as anything other than white or Native is super exotic). She was in her mid 50’s ,they ended up getting along, she invited him back to her place for the night where they did who knows what.
Woke up in the morning, started talking as they were drunk the night before and really didn’t get to know one another. She looks up from his chest and tells him she is a lizard. He’s laying there like should I know what a lizard is? He asks her what a lizard is:

What difference would that make when there is still that instant where the ref has to see the clock than look at the ball? That’s why it seems like there are so many missed delay of game penalties.
They should use some sort of vibration when the clock hits 0, much like a lot of MLB teams are using for pitch signals.

I like that the refs don’t automatically call a flag when the play clock hits zero if the play follows a reasonable time later.

We did go to the playoff game this year, which was the first time we’d been there since we saw you at the lot, must’ve been 2018 or 2019? We walked through the lot before the game, but didn’t see you or supa or anyone else we recognized.
I was at the lot that day, but didn’t go into the game. Too bad we missed each other. Supa is dry now, so doesn’t tailgate anymore. His brothers were both there though.
Oh yeah, I forgot that supa got sober. I was with the fam, we just did a quick walk-through before we went into the stadium. IIRC, it was kinda cold & shitty that day, and we weren’t really dressed for it.
That’s right, it was cold. I also left before over an hour before kickoff, so I could get to my buddy’s house by kickoff. So I probably was already gone.
Rode the light rail over from Great Wolf Lodge, got to see some of the lovely homeless camps you have there in Minneapolis. I don’t think we’ll be going back to Minny any time soon.
We’re planning to do an away game every year. We went to Miami last year for the Dolphins game, had a friggin blast.
But yes–Mpls is very unsafe. Those were the only 2 times I’ve been in that city the last year.

I drive to MPLS everyday for work. I’m up right by the borders with roseville and falcon heights. Not bad during the day. I did just drive by a big pile of burnt rubbish that used to be a busted ass old RV that a bunch of homeless people were living in, guess it burned down yesterday or the day before.

Maybe next week. There’s a car parked in front of the coffee shop I always go to a couple blocks away that hasn’t moved in 6 months and is obviously also someone’s home. Some other ladies put up a tent behind our building for a couple of weeks last year (not on our property) until the neighbors (also not their property) just went out and threw all their shit in a dumpster. Some homeless crackhead also broke into one of our mini buses this winter and screwed it all up. We don’t see a lot of crime in the area during working hours, but homelessness is an issue.

True. I drove over the road for about 3 years, I really loved it, but would be tough if you have a family. My brother’s been a truck driver his whole life, owns his own trucks.
My dad was an independent driver for nearly 40 years, before leasing on with a company. He set up all of his own loads through brokers and was president of the Independent Truckers Association for a while.
He also was able to screw over the IRS while doing it. The auditor could not figure out what he was doing, but couldn’t believe he was able to operate for years in the red.

Talked with a nutritionist at the Fairview clinic as well. she was not as high on low carb as I am, but things are all improving for me.
I was pre-diabetic with high blood pressure and very high triglycerides. Following a mostly very low carb diet the last several years has helped me drop 40 pounds and keep it off, lowered the BP(mostly due to weight loss, I am sure). My cholesterol is in the “high normal” range but the doc is happy with the rest of the numbers, so he tells me to keep doing what I am doing.
59 years old, and on no medication other than the occasional MN Nice THC gummy, daily coffee, and weekend booze.

I’m not a coffee drinker at all, but my wife has drank coffee all over the world, and she rated his a 10. Not the best she has ever had, so apparently her scale goes over 10, but still pretty good.

Yeah, the Little Belts are at 140% normal snow pack, Beartooths are 105%-150%. Deadman Creek Snotell north of White Sulphur, close to Neihart is at about 48″ and a little higher elevation is over 80″. Hopefully it doesn’t try to come off as quick as last year. I doubt that but there will be plenty of water when it starts.

I think it will. The other part of the Snotel list to look at is the snow water equivalent. The Spur Park one sits at 8100 ft in the Little Belts just east of Neihart. 1 week ago it showed 82 inches of snow with a 23.1 in equivalent. This morning it is showing 78 inches with a 23.4 inch equivalent. That’s a crap load of water sitting up there. Here’s the Snotel website if you haven’t seen it. It’s pretty cool to play around with and see what’s in the hills.

Yeah. I was curious and pulled up a snow water equivalent (SWE) historic chart. One of my hunting spots is higher than the max of the last 3 years. The high the last 3 years didn’t occur until the end of April.
