Merry Tuesday, everyone, and welcome to Skoloholics! Join us for Minnesota Vikings talk, Vikings news, news from around the NFL, and virtually any other topic. It’s Eric Kendricks’ birthday on the 29th, which got me to thinking, people with a February 29th birthday have it pretty good. If the 28th or March 1st falls on a Friday/Saturday, they can choose from either so they don’t have to celebrate on a boring Tuesday or something like that. I’m not really a believer in birthday parties for people over the age of 21 anyway, I think it’s just another way Hallmark gets you to buy a useless card.

This is from Dalvin Cook’s agent via Twitter via Instagram:

https://twitter.com/thatvikingsfan8/status/1630272218809638914?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1630272218809638914%7Ctwgr%5Ef299a31122282459d25e121a38ace020d1790f71%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fpurpleptsd.com%2F2023%2Fvikings%2Ftop_news%2Fdalvin-cook-agent%2F

I actually don’t disagree with the agent here, the team did not use the run game well in 2022. Dalvin’s bulk stats look good, but we had too many negative running plays, and I believe that’s because they used the run too often only in obvious running situations where the defense was keyed in on the run. I don’t believe they used the run game often enough during “normal” drives, and their situational play calling and especially their run/pass balance was poor. Minnesota threw the ball on 64.4% of plays in 2022, 3rd-highest in the NFL behind the Buccaneers and Chargers. They obviously ran the ball on 35.6% of plays. The Vikings must be more balanced on offense moving forward, IMO.

Yeah, so, not much else in the way of NFL news out there. At least spring training has begun, so we have SOMETHING to talk about. Well, the few of us who like baseball, anyway. Everyone else is SOL until March 15th when the NFL free agent frenzy begins.

Minnesota Vikings News:

CBS Sports ranked each NFL team’s free agent class. The Vikings come in at #25, here’s a quote from this ‘expert’:

25. Minnesota Vikings

Top free agents: Garrett Bradbury (C), Dalvin Tomlinson (DT), Patrick Peterson (CB)

Tomlinson is the top free agent in this class, a reliable player who’s disruptive on the interior of the defensive line. He’s been a valuable defensive tackle since entering the league. Bradbury is worth retaining on an offensive line that needs him, especially since he’ll have a market. Peterson is 33, but coming off a year which he was strong in coverage and notched five interceptions.

This class isn’t great outside of the three mentioned, but the Vikings would be wise to keep Bradbury around.

Derek Carr is going to meet with a ‘handful of teams’ this week during the scouting combine, according to NFL.com.

The Commanders have released Carson Wentz, per Sports Illustrated.

Over at NFL.com, Danile Jeremiah ranks the top 50 2023 NFL draft prospects.

The Twins lost…….again, per MLB.com. The Braves, on the other hand, smoked the Blue Jays. I wonder what smoked blue jay tastes like?

There’s a rumor they want to sign Edmonds and then I believe are going to let Flores go after some true 3-4 LB’s and edge rushes.

Since Kirk joining the Vikings in 2018 only 3 QBs have won the SB. 2 of them twice.

I watched McCarron bring back his xfl team for a win. It was odd how they did it, went for one of the 3 options for a two point conversion that ended up being a four point conversion cause they went from farther back. Then no kickoff they have a choice to try an convert a 4th and 15 to retain possession and did, drove the field scored again and won. Other team never got the ball back lol…it was different.

See how society disrespects the old and knowledgeable…”just go away and die old man, we have this under control”. Fucking story as old a time…young cock swollen punks think they have the world by the tail, know everything and disrespect the past generations that built everything they have. Always a better way, always a faster way.

Look how we treat old people today, shitty healthcare you’re lucky if you get stuck in a nursing home and it will likely be a bad one where you lay in your own shit because the aids are on THEIR FUCKING PHONES! Swear to fucking god I’m going out like Brooks before I end up in one of those places.

That’s interesting, I’m not 100% against it even if I would never do it. I am concerned though about who can or can’t consent. My grandmother would never agree to something like that in her right mind, but her last three years were full on dementia where she easily could have been coerced into agreeing to such “treatment”.

Oh no…it’s 100% a political issue. You see we give our rights away when we support a party that votes for the dissolving these programs and supports unlimited spending for lobbyists and corps in our political system. They write the laws fella and we pay the consequences. Voting on single issues like guns or abortion gives them the means to manipulate and write the laws with what they’re really after. The programs that transfer trillions in to their coffers.

We’re done buddy….you just haven’t pulled your head out of the clouds long enough to see it.

I don’t know why you do this. Like it’s one side vs. the other.

these entitlements? They goto feed the political machines. They wouldn’t give out “free money” if they knew it wasn’t coming back to them.

it is societal. Death used to be celebrated and embraced. Not feared.
As a society it’s preferred to live alone in a home with nobody around who loves you just clinging on to life rather than dying. It’s the choice of many to pass off their elderly relatives to people who don’t give a Fuck about them because the “system” will pay for it and take vote them.

Sad state of affairs.

Lifer

I’m not sure what you even mean by any of that. The entitlement programs aren’t giving out free money, they’re bought and paid for services we all pay in to. It’s money owed us that they skim off of and dole out lucrative contracts to insurance companies and big Pharma. Sure the system is broken but eliminating it is not the answer without a replacement program.

If I’m guessing right the GOP wants to privatize everything to let big corp get their greedy claws in to it all. Easier to manipulate.

KAM was asked how he evaluates the QB position numbers-wise and how he forms an opinion about it. His answer was, common for him, the usual general manager talk mixed with an analytical approach.

Let’s go full numbers, we talk about necessary and sufficient conditions in math; a necessary condition is having a starter-level quarterback, a quarterback above a certain threshold. Now that doesn’t mean for sure you’re going to win, that’s not the only thing you need, but that is one of the things you need. Having a good-level quarterback is a necessary condition. Kirk [Cousins] meets that threshold, we know that.

While being inclusive and building a relationship with players to garner buy-in is laudable, it’s not practical IMO. This is a business. Players are going to have to get cut, traded, etc every single year. Treating JJ like a partner versus an employee will ultimately cause problems I think. Maybe they believe that building this kind of relationship will end up with the player feeling less inclined to demand more money. We shall see.

Someone dug shafts deep underground and protected them with booby trap flood tunnels hundreds of years ago. The engineering was exceptional and may have taken 50 or more years to construct. Why would anyone do all that? They had to be protecting something… the question is what?

They strongly believe the swamp was man made. They have found the remnants of a dam at the Northern peak of the swamp and found stone roads and a warf like structure in there too. They dated some of the wood found under the roads to the early 15th century. Lots of evidence it was constructed, not natural. They haven’t found a ship yet, but lots of wood and metal that they believe were part of a ship.

The rumor on the street is the 6 Minot AFB personnel were relieved because of what appears to be minor paperwork infractions.

I figured it was them just ‘huddled together to keep warm’ nothing to see here type of thing.

Minor Paperwork Infractions seems more like a ‘throw a minion under the buss’ type of problem. That explanation would be floated to keep the sheep from questioning/looking for the real reason. It’s the type of thing the White House likes to do.

I suspect ‘the rest of the story’ will come out eventually.

There is no way that is the real reason. Now days you have to wonder if they were let go because they’re not woke enough, but likely the real reason is something that would be embarrassing for the public to know about.

Having said that, a seasoned HR person can always find a legal reason not to hire or to fire someone. I always went to great extremes to do the right thing, but sometimes doing the right thing might not be squeaky clean. When I took a legal risk, it was always to protect the majority of good employees.

One example, I was dealing with a crazy, dangerous employee (I’ve explained in the past how difficult that was). He was on suspension pending investigation for threats when he came into my office and told me that the radio and t.v. had been talking to him, and told him that Toyota was the anti-Christ and he would have to resign. I pulled out a piece of paper and had him put that in writing. Did I know he wasn’t in his right mind when he quit? Yes. Did I care? No. I was just happy to get a crazy, dangerous person out of there.

Legal does not equal Logical.

Had a co-worker who’s wife worked a a large company.
Two workers there got into a physical altercation and the aggressor was eventually fired. The Victim was upset after the altercation and my friend’s wife gave him a hug to help calm him.
The aggressor stated when we was fired ‘what about her? Public Displays of Affection are not allowed at work’. So they fired her as well.

Yes, but I never let fear of legal liability force me to make a stupid decision, and I never lost a case, not once. To be fair, you have to have your house in order to be able to do the right thing. For example, did they always fire everyone who gave a hug in sympathy? I doubt it, but if they did, fire that HR person for stupidity.

The AFA in Colorado Springs had lots of Issues with Sexual Harassment/worse. After that the AF Brass went full woke so they could convince everyone how much they cared.
Not that they really cared but that they pretended too.

The issue isn’t with the rank and file, it is the higher ups that are more concerned with their own power/jobs.

I would expect a trade back from 23 to the 2nd rd maybe pick up a 4th also. Lot of good talent day 3 so that’s what I expect. Don’t really see any player they’d stay at 23 for. Maybe Stroud or Richardson is an outside possibility if he shows off at the combine. I’d like to see a trade back personally.

I’d like to see somebody who has starter potential. If that works out you either end up with Kirk’s heir or trade bait. You’re taking the shot on younger guys that everybody wants while also keeping a good starting QB. Mullens is not that and never will be. He is a mid range backup that you hope can do enough to win half of the games he plays in, and that might be a stretch.

There’s others that would be in the same price range and you could at least hope they would end up better. I doubt Minshew gets much more. Brissett probably does. Wilson is worth very little at this point but I’m not sure the structure of his rookie deal. Baker and Wentz, who knows what happens there. Wentz will be lucky to be a backup now.

JJs Cash and Kwersk Cash can not come due at the same time. An extension would be franchise and Career suicide. KOC and KAM were brought in to evaluate the Vikings next QB and to make sure he’s franchise caliber. Not to hold Kirks hand in his failing NFL career. Wittle Skolly is fooled easily.

Leber dont know shit. Kwes and KOC are not risking their careers on Kirks deer brain. No extension. Draft a QB in rounds 2-4 this year, let him sit behind Kwerk in his LAST season in 23, JJ and the new QB and talk and get comfortable in practice and camps in that time and be ready to roll in 24.

Especially with rookies coming in, there seems to be more free agent QBs with starting experience than teams that need a starter. There are a few options to potentially land good backup. In order of NFL.com’s FA rankings, current QBs set to hit free agency are Lamar, Carr, Jimmy, Geno, Jones, Wentz, Brissett, Teddy, Dalton, Minshew, Baker.

I still think they should see what the Jets want for Wilson or go for Baker or Minshew. Unless they’re going to draft somebody then get a backup that has potential to take over some day cheap. If they obviously aren’t going to work then see ya later and try again next year. I could see the Jets having to dump Wilson cheap after they sign somebody a la Carr.

That’s why I try for a younger guy that you can get cheap but still has some possibility of working into a starter, like Wilson. I see 3 outcomes.

  1. He really just sucks and you end up cutting him and trying again with somebody else.
  2. He develops into starter material, Kirk retires or is allowed to leave and you have your starter in place.
  3. He develops, possibly shows promise in a game or at least preseason, Kirk stays and you trade him to a desperate team.

Rams don’t need a QB, Stafford is back in 2023. Jones won’t go anywhere, he’ll get transition tagged if the don’t agree on an extension. Colts and Texans will draft QBs. Commies will likely roll with Heineken and the kid they drafted last year. Cards don’t need a QB, at least not in a realistic sense where they would pursue one. Its basically the Jets, Vegas (who might also draft a QB early), and the NFC South, though the Bucs are said to be rolling with Trask as the starter for next year.

28 February 2023 9:08 am

You’re actually wrong. He had 14 picks and 8 fumbles lost, fumbles recovered by your own team aren’t a turnover. Kirk 14 picks and 7 fumbles lost, which is only one turnover more than Kirk, so I wouldn’t worry any more or less about one over the other. Now, the volume of fumbles Allen had overall are a bit concerning, but fumbles by QBs tend to fluctuate year to year and so do the number recovered by the fumbling team.

benjammin
Admin
Reply to  Gone fishin'
28 February 2023 9:19 am

Yeah, 13 fumbles is a high amount, but it fluctuates every year and there is some luck to recovering them, Kirk lost all 7 he had last year.

bowbunch
bowbunch
Reply to  benjammin

And you would expect more fumbles from a guy who runs the ball and does a lot of QB sneaks. So, really, the number of fumbles Kirk had is worser.

benjammin
Admin
Reply to  bowbunch
28 February 2023 9:28 am

Kirks had his own issues at times but running does increase the number. No QB in the NFL fumbles nearly as often as Fields though, who has a mind bottling 28 fumbles in 25 career games.

Same, I think he’ll get incrementally better but will never be a true franchise QB and eventually will cost them a lot of money, then he’ll start breaking down from all the hits and sacks he takes, which are also astronomically high numbers.

The Vikings need as many cheap players on the roster they can get and they don’t have shit for draft capital so it would be antithetical to trade him even if he is just meh, meh in the FA market will cost more than he.

Thats it.

They price doesn’t really mean shit. Are we talking about doing 1 year 40-50million dollar deals?

That really isnt feasible.

I’m not knocking him saying he’s a bad qb…but I just dont know what else there is to do capwise with him. I don’t see the advantage to “locking him up” now vs. next year if they make a deep playoff run.

And if they win the SB… F it and pay him everythig I dont care.

Dang, that sucks. We had that happen last summer but got lucky. My wife was pulling my friend’s boat with the Tahoe, went over some railroad tracks, boat came off, hit the back window and only scratched the glass. Left a little scratch on the tailgate but all in all a pretty good outcome.

Being a Viking fan could probably be classified as a mental disorder. I mean just look at how dysfunctional everybody here is. Is anybody here really normal or do we all suffer from the same disorder and that’s why we feel comfortable here?

Instead of an emotional support website, I guess you could more accurately call Skoloholics therapy or a support group and not allowing an employee time on Skoloholics would be an ADA violation.

This non-profit has been around since 1966. A large percent of the people that work there have been around for over a decade (or longer) and have done so because it is a nice place to work (that’s what they say anyway). This is not a large international or national non-profit. They only operate here in Western Wisconsin.
I have only 3.5 years before retirement, so hopefully this is a nice deal to carry through until then.

My favorite Easter candy are the animal sweetarts with the ducks chicks and bunnies, for some reason I always start by biting off the head and then eating the body. My top five is sweetarts, cadbury mini eggs, starburtst jellybeans, chocolate covered malted milk balls (aka whoppers), and of course the classic egg peanut butter cup. The york peppermint patties honourable mention. Peeps and chocolate bunnies are total bullshit.

Peeps, especially frozen.

I enjoy a good food challenge. I’ll be taking on the MOAB (mother of all burgers) soon at B-52s, a burger joint here in the cities. The MOAB is 2 lbs of hamburger, bacon curds, fried onions, and fried eggs on a 15″ french bread for a total weight of about 4 lbs. It has been a while since I’ve done a food challenge, the last time was a bbq place in CO where I ate a 12″ hogie filled with 3 lbs of different BBQ meats along with a lb of fries and a pickle. I took it down in just under 20 minutes, which was a record at the time, though it came back up w/ in 10 minutes of finishing, which now makes me think maybe it isn’t worth it to get a free meal and t-shirt if you’re gonna lose half the meal.
