The 2023 salary cap was sort-of announced yesterday, and as expected, it is expected to be in the $225 million range. Exact amount is $224.8 million, according to a report by Pelissero and Rapoport. That’s a fairly steep increase from the $208 million 2022 salary cap, a bit over 8%, which is actually not far above the current inflation rate.
Not much else to report today, folks. The off-season doldrums are beginning to set in. Once the Super Bowl ends, it gets REALLY boring until the draft. We’ll have plenty to discuss as we continue our quest to build the Vikings master plan to establish the next great NFL dynasty. 🙂

49ers QB Brock Purdy suffered a torn UCL in his throwing arm during Sunday’s loss to the Eagles, per NFL.com. Man, you hate to see that happen to the kid. It’ll be very interesting to see how the 49ers approach this off-season and their quarterback situation.
Kellen Moore didn’t stay unemployed very long. He was fired by the Cowboys on Sunday, then a day later was hired by the Chargers to be their offensive coordinator, according to NFL.com. Moore will take over for Joe Lombardi, who had been the Chargers OC for the past two seasons.

BTW. I asked late in the day where you’re from and saw you’re response. I love Austria…went there a few times at my prior company. We typically met for team meetings at mountain lodges within an hour of Salzburg.
we always seemed to pass a valley with a castle off the highway (near a tunnel). I don’t remember the name of the castle but. IIRC, it was a Hitler occasional residence during WWII. One of the places we stayed at passed near Arnold Schwarzenegger’s birthplace.
had a company party at the Red Bull museum (?) once, skied the alps, and spent some time exploring Salzburg. Great memories and Austrians were always awesome.
never got a chance to go to Vienna but it’s on my bucket list.
Good to hear that you liked your time in Austria, it IS a nice enough country. Salzburg is a beautiful city, one of my sisters lived there for some time.
im sure you are but my description may have sucked…are you familiar with the castle I mentioned? One of the most beautiful (and incredible…not sure how it was built) historical sites I’ve ever seen. It’s built at the top of a large, steep slope in the middle of a valley. I don’t remember many specifics but driving from southern Germany, I remember being in a main highway (not sure if you call the Autobahn’s in Austria) but it connects to an Autobahn in Germany. And as I mentioned, I think there was a tunnel pass shortly after passing the castle if you’re coming from the south.
I just Googled Austrian castles…I think it’s Hohenwerfen castle. Amazing.
You must have been travelling on A10 then, the Tauern Autobahn. I´ve passed that castle many times without paying attention, it becomes part of the scenery when one has passed it a few times. But it really is exceptionally beautiful.
And yes, it´s called Autobahn in Austria as well 🙂
I love this shit (holy and unholy). Autobahn…got it. And I think the thing (other than the beauty) that always amazed me about that castle is trying to figure out how they built it. I’m assuming it’s been around since medieval days. Not Egyptian pyramid level of challenge but still an incredible architectural accomplishment.
Now this is a very good question, how did they build magnificent buildings in such difficult locations with medieval tech… very interesting topic.

I electronically checked out Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky (Soviet era authors) and read it yesterday. Was a great read for those fans of science fiction/first contact genre. The premise being that aliens visited small regions of Earth and left a bunch of crap behind but didn’t even notice humans, like humans having a roadside picnic and leaving cans, batteries, etc at a roadside picnic and not noticing the ants, bees, etc that explore the trash after the humans leave.
Interesting premise.
So Stonehenge and the Sphinx are leftovers from an alien picnic? Interesting theory. It does also explain how civilizations across the world ended up with some of the same ideas of mythology, gods, etc. The gods were obviously aliens.
Oh, not in the premise of this novel. This was science fiction. There were six more or less equally spaced “zones” a few kilometers across scattered around the globe, as if someone had fired a gun six times from the area of Deneb in Cygnus at the Earth. Within the zones are many deadly traps but some amazing secrets, like batteries that never run out and which can multiply, and a ray that dissolves all living creatures. The setting in the novel is near some fictional Canadian town.

Hey HUN, don’t know if you saw me reminiscing skiing at Biberwier in the Tyrols yesterday, you ever get up that way?
We went there in 4th grade, six day five night field trip.
I remember it as one of those cool little Austrian towns. Teachers told us a story about a haunted house one day, then invited any volunteers to go check it out in the evening…of course one of the teachers was holed up in the shed in a sheet and scared the crap out of us.
I also got nicely dehydrated and lost weight as I was a picky eater and didn’t care for what they were serving. What a brat I was.

IIRC (that was a long time ago) they served a Speckknödelsuppe or Klachelsuppe before the main course, which was usually some roasted goose or Tiroler Grostl…not the usual BaWu fare I was used to like Wiener schnitzel and Bratwurst.
Main reason I remember is that is one of the things my parents reminisced about – my somewhat dilapidated appearance getting off the bus, getting home at 4 pm and wolfing down a couple of cans of mini ravioli or some such crap and putting away a pitcher of KoolAid (purple, of course) before retiring to bed until 3 pm the next day. Said I ate like a (pardon the reference) concentration camp survivor.
Tyrolean cuisine can be something to get used to, right. I like a good Speckknödelsuppe, though.

I was discussing a conspiracy theory show about how the moon landing was fake, one time at my old job. On the show they said that the temperature on the sun side was 400 degrees and on the opposite side it was -400 degrees, and that the coolant pump would not be able to pump fluid fast enough to maintain an even temperature.
My boss heard me talking about it and started ripping me a new one. turns out he designed the original pump for the space suits used to go to the moon.

To be honest, what I actually have for breakfast is either bran flakes or shredded wheat with a light layer of frosted flakes on top. Old age has its drawbacks.

I don’t normally eat breakfast during the week. On the weekends I usually end up making pancakes for the kids one day and biscuits and gravy happens almost every weekend at this point. On pancake day I may eat one or I just fry a couple eggs up for myself.
Biscuits and gravy is good stuff. Unfortunately I usually only have that if I’m traveling and they have it at the hotel breakfast. Hotel biscuits and gravy can be hit or miss.
Usually miss…I always think it smells great and I try it…and it usually sucks.
The biscuits are normally harder than a hockey puck and the gravy very Vikings unless you add half a pound of pepper.
As I have gotten older I don’t eat much for weekday breakfast…usually 1 piece of peanut butter toast or a small bowl of oatmeal…Weekends are bigger breakfasts but then its a brunch.

The amount of butter I put in my sausage gravy does the trick just fine.
Butter on sausage gravy, that’s interesting, never tried it, I usually put sriracha or tobasco on it. That reminds me, I was listening to the KFAN morning show the other day and they had the guy considered the best chef in the TC, he owns several high end restaurants. Anyway he said his recipe for rice crispy treats is to use unsalted butter but a little less than usual before baking, then when he takes them out of the oven he rubs some over the top while its still warm and then sprinkes a light layer of sea salt over the top. For some reason I found that interesting and want to try it.
I don’t put butter on it. The gravy consists of 2/3 cup butter, 2/3 cup flour and 2 cups or so of milk, plus seasoning depending on the sausage being used.
Rice crispy treats are of the devil.

Chicken fried steak with hashbrowns, over easy eggs on top, all covered in sausage gravy is a pretty solid option as well.

I knew a kid who use to go the local gas station on the reservation I was living and they had really good thicker and cripy pizza crust and they did breakfast pizza on that and biscuits and gravy. He would take a piece of breakfast pizza and cut it up, put it in a to go box for biscuits and gravy and put the gravy on top. OMG, it was so good!

In the army when they brought breakfast out to us in Mermite cans I would build a ‘breakfast sandwich’ with eggs, sausage and the ‘bread of the day’ (pancakes/waffles/Freedom toast). Add some syrup and it was pretty yum.
Build one for breakfast at my son in laws last month, aaah the memories.

Well we were already helping the Russians with the ‘Lend/Lease’ policy. Sending them equipment to fight the Nazis.
Germany may have had a chance against Russia if they weren’t fighting a two front war. Hitler’s ego didn’t help much either. Should have went around Stalingrad and taken the oil fields, but Stalin’s name in the city he just couldn’t help himself. Take the oil fields and Russia would have been in rough shape. It also would have helped their oil supply issues that ultimately helped lead to the Allied victory in the Battle of the Bulge.

Hard to say. The other factor is would Hitler ever have stopped? He was such an ego maniac would Russia and Europe have been enough? Doubtful. He would have kept going until he finally stretched too far. There was also a lot of inner turmoil so one of his own guys may have just eventually offed him. Maybe if they were experiencing more victories like taking the Russian oil fields, overthrowing England, etc that inner turmoil would not have been as prevalent. At least at times, they definitely seemed to have the technological advantage. That’s another possible outcome though, the Germans take England and most of Russia so the US drops a nuke on Hamburg after the Germans start making moves towards North America.

I don’t think Great Britain would have been invaded. The German navy was not able to stand on equal footing with the vastly larger British fleet. Assuming the lend lease continues and shipping lanes remain open a stalemate would have been reached fairly quickly, and assuming the eastern front is in play Russia would have likely moved their border to the Rhine.
Maybe…Could have England continued to win the battle of the skies? Hitler would have produced more planes and was developing primitive rockets as well…though their accuracy would not have been good (I saw it on Hogan’s Heroes)…
I believe so. Code breaking at Bletchley Park was far more advanced than the German equivalent. All manner of jamming and deceptive electronic means were used to steer German bombers off target. They never developed a 4 engine heavy like the Halifax, Stirling or Lancaster. The first 1000 bomber raids started in February of 1942 walloping Dortmund, Essen, Duisburg, Dusseldorf and Cologne (Ruhr Valley and targets east of the Rhine). The US 8th AF didn’t start bombing until mid 1942. Certainly the US hastened the end of the war and human misery but I don’t think GB would have fallen.

Eggs are great as long as done well, and not much better than good crispy and buttery hashbrowns with sauteed onions. But I think sometimes Pancakes waffles and French toast get a bad wrap because it’s often just quickly made not good stuff. There are levels to pancakes, waffles, and French Toast.
Correct, one is good when used properly as a compliment to meat and gravy, the others just suck to varying degrees.

Yeah, its interesting to me that 6 years ago the Vikings met the Eagles in the NFCCG, one team curb stomped the other on the way to winning the owl, then a couple years later underwent a complete rebuild and is now back in the SB. The other team has been running it back since then and has not even sniffed the NFCCG again let alone a SB.
Yes…but we did have a reset this year so lets see what happens…I know some are convinced we are doomed for mediocrity as long as KC is on the roster but lets give it a chance.
If they overhaul the defense this off-season, I’ll have a lot of hope for the future. If they try to just replace the DC and think everything will be hunky-dory, then I’ll be pretty pissed, because then we won’t improve much, if at all.
For me they need to overhaul the defense and at least do something other than just extend Kirk. Plan for the post-Kirk offense.

I am totally fine trading JJ if they could get two firsts and future picks. If JJ truly wants to win a Super Bowl, historically, he should obviously be looking for a different team anyway.
Its been five years, I’ve seen enough to know the Vikings with Kirk at QB can’t win 4 strait games against above average or elite football teams to win the SB. Not doomed for mediocrity, but doomed to a ceiling of at best a WC win and subsequent beatdown in the divisional round.
Almost worse is we didn’t “run it back” we supposedly upgraded the missing piece in the QB… I really do like Kirk but I think that experiment has ran it’s course. Let him go get a ring in SF.

I think the first one, they looked at the game like a scrimmage. KC was AFL and the Vikes had just won the NFL Championship (the ones the FTP fans count for their team, but not other teams)
those last 3 superbowls were brutal to watch…I remember the Raiders said their game plan was to power run right at Allen Page…He was fast and quick and would cause trouble running laterally, but he was light..they basically just ran right at him…so frustrating.

Tark would still end up in the hall of fame, with the way QBs are protected, how CBs can’t really even touch WRs anymore, him being a mobile QB, and playing most of his games indoors, he would still be an elite player and much better than Kirk.
