Minnesota Vikings News:
The Atlanta Braves won their season opener over the Nationals 7-2. The Braves racked up 12 hits. Great start to the season!
The Twins also won yesterday, as they defeated the Royals 2-0. Lopez looked sharp and got the W for the Twins. Lopez was the first Twins pitcher to get a win in the home opener on the road since Brad Radke did it in 2003.
At NFL.com, when asked about the Eagles’ quick turnaround, Howie Roseman said ‘in our market, there is no rebuilding’. This is fair and accurate. I’ve always chuckled at the notion that a team has to suck first before they can get better. Silly.

Dude has some issues and is a prime candidate to slide. Maybe to 10-15 but not much farther than that.
Took the wife to the range this evening before dinner. Bought her some new clubs wanted her to try them out. Got her some Cleveland Halo hybrid irons. She hit them pretty well, got the ball in the air, for someone who rarely swings a club. Kept hitting them left a lot so much to work on her set up and swing path. Hitting off a perm mat which is a 100 foot long 4 foot deep sidewalk at the range that has astro turf over it. Yeah hard as a rock but works. Grass is still dormant here so will be awhile before one can hit on the real stuff. Got some chipping in off the ground also which was nice. Was striping my 7 iron 160 well that was nice. Driver was meh not much control, PW was pulling bad which is odd, 9 wood was meh usually a good club but directional issues off the hard mat deck, didn’t work well. Better off grass.
Glad you got to at least hit some balls today, especially with your wife. Very cool. Hate to say this but I bet I could fix your issues in 5 minutes or less if I saw you swing. Pulling the ball left is almost always because your arms are out racing your hips. Pulling short irons left is easy in that regard because the swing is shorter so hips don’t have time to get out of the way. Try this. On your downswing try and feel pressure on the back of your lead hand through the ball. I’m right handed so my lead hand is my left one.
I believe you could…hard to analyze ones own swing but yes I’m aware my hand are ahead of my body or hips. I try to keep my shoulders and hips connected with a full turn back and through but I have quick hands its a struggle. Tempo is my biggest issue I have to constantly have a rhythm practice swing and number in my head, one thousand and one or as you suggested ALA-BAMA. The left back of the hand lead press I’ve practiced a lot but forget about it so yes good suggestion to work on it some more along with pressing it down the target line. The back of the left hand is the club face.
You got it… you can’t see yourself swing. You know what to do, but there are little things that can help when your swing is off. Tempo to me is just about everything if you have a somewhat repeatable swing.

Yeah… that’s Stixx. We got him from a kill shelter on his last day. Took him off death row so to speak. He was in terrible shape after wandering the Eastern Shore (Maryland) as an abandoned kitten. My wife couldn’t help but spoil him. Now he’s on a diet.
That’s awesome. We inherited our cat, too. She was damn near dead, not sure how she got into our garage, but she did. She’s been with us ever since.

I’ll never forget it KFEY, we went in and were told he was scheduled for euthanasia at 1 p.m. It was 12:20 when we arrived. My wife was like “there is no way I’m letting you do that”.

Oh yeah, we found a new vet when we got down here (mobile vet who comes to your home with a vet tech to assist her) and she said it was time for him to trim down. I like this vet. She comes in and plays with the cat a little, talks with us, does the exam slowly and doesn’t make the cat nervous etc. Great demeanor. My wife was apologetic about Stixx’s weight and vet said “yeah spoiling is so easy when you have cat like this”. What a great comment to make.
If cats are chill I like them, if they are anxious and spazzy and run and hide in another room when someone new shows up, eh, not a fan. Thats why im more a dog person. But knowing a good vet when you have pets is huge, find the ones that care.
Same… I’m a dog person, but our cats are all sweethearts. Like to be held, petted, etc. They’ve grown on me.

Generally in favor of this veto..I think the Bill was not necessary. If a teacher wants to call someone by their non birth pronoun I think they should be able to.

So let them, without judgements so we have less kids trying to cut themselves to pieces to match their perceived identity at the moment. I think part of the problem with this whole ordeal is we don’t let people explore their curiosity without judgements. Think about it. If a kid was confused and questioning their sexuality and gender and they were without judgements able to explore that sexuality or gender identity I think we’d have way less kids trying to go through changing their gender because they probably feel they’ll never be able to be themselves without trying to physically changed themselves as much as possible to match their identity without scrutiny.

If he slides to end of rd 1 or early day 2 and they take him I’m all for it. We need to get on the path of QB development. I just don’t want to spend 23 on a maybe prospect but if they’ve pretty much come to terms with this being Kirk’s last year in purple then they’re certainly apprehensive about getting what’s next at the QB position for 24 and a guy like Levis spending a year behind Kirk learning and improving his footwork and mechanics also makes a lot of sense. You might be right here is what I’m saying.

The problem here… is a failure to communicate. Over the years Cousins has made many dozens of “wow” throws. The fact that you don’t remember them (as a Vikings fan) seems odd.

I don’t remember many “shit his pants” moments… no. He’s had some for sure. They are far outweighed though by his “wow” moments. Thus when I look at the overall picture what I come up with is a QB who consistently overcomes a bad line to make great throws. That consistency is a rare thing.
The fact is the plays rarely set up perfectly for Cousins (less often than most QB’s in the NFL in fact) because his line just can’t block for him. He stands in there time and time again getting blasted while delivering the ball. He is one of the most hit, knocked down, sacked and pressured QB’s in the league over the last 5 years.

I think this article does a great job laying out the reasons that in no way are the vikings brass interested in Lamar. He just doesn’t fit from either a cost to acquire or offensive style.
Cousins was chewing up too much of the cap, so Adofo-Mensah deferred $28.5 million of Cousins’ salary into next year, which became dead cap. The Vikings are paying Cousins $28.5 million not to play in 2024. Because he has four void years on his contract, Cousins will continue to collect a purple paycheck until 2027. It pays to be consistent in the NFL.
It also makes it pretty tough to pay Jackson. Minnesota would have to give up two firsts and pay him $32.4 million to acquire Jackson, then extend him. Jackson reportedly wants something similar to the $230 million guaranteed that the Cleveland Browns offered Deshaun Watson. That’s a hefty price tag for a dynamic dual-threat player with an injury history. For some teams, that’s absolutely worth it. Jackson is like octane booster if your team is chugging along on 87. But it doesn’t make much sense if you’ve built a roster around a traditional quarterback.

That’s IF the rumor is true that he wants a DeShaun Watson type deal. I haven’t seen anything other than conjecture that he wants that size of a deal. I could be wrong, I just haven’t seen anything credible.
He actually offered a cheap deal (relatively speaking) and the Vikings turned their nose up at it because they want “flexibility” in the contract. This is the same thing that happened in Washington with Bruce Allen. Cousins agent offered a decent contract proposal but Allen would not do the guaranteed money, no trade clause, etc that would have given Cousins control. If the Vikings stick to their guns on this (fully their choice) Cousins will become a free agent after 2023. From there he would have to retire, or be picked up by another team fully of his choosing. The Vikings would have a $28.5M cap hit to swallow and they could begin anew with the QB of their choosing.

So, it makes even more sense to draft a QB this year. Have him on a rookie deal so that the dead cap hit isn’t so painful. You’re paying the position around $30-$35 million (including the backups) in 2024, which is manageable. 2025 should have little to no dead money, hopefully.
OR go after Lamar, backload his contract (generally a bad idea) to lessen the cap hit in 2024.
About the ‘two firsts’ thing. The Vikings are obviously going to need to draft a QB, right? It seems obvious that they’re moving on from Kirk, so they need a succession plan. They’ve already indicated that they won’t be scouring the bargain bin for a QB. Drafting a guy this year makes the most sense, as that would give him a year to sit behind Kirk, then take the reins next year. In order to get a solid QB this year, they’ll likely have to move up. Moving up is going to cost a couple of firsts.
Do you want to spend two firsts to draft an unknown, or would you rather spend two firsts getting known quantity? The upside to a rookie is having him on a rookie contract, but then there’s a 50/50 shot that he’s going to suck.

In reading scouting reports of all the other QB prospects the “weaknesses” section is pretty harsh for all of them so take note of that. The reason is…playing QB in the NFL ain’t easy man. Guys like the top dudes now make it look a whole lot easier than it is. After Young and Stroud the rest of these jokers come with way more questions than answers so really that is in Tune’s favor because there is much less risk with him day 3 than Levis, Richardson or McKee in the first two days of the draft.
