Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
It’s the weekend, but there’s no Vikings football to look forward to. Considering the number of Vikings starters at key positions who are currently unable to play due to injury, it’s a good time to have a week off. Hopefully the team will be healthier with more of their best players able to take the field when they do return to action at home against the hated Philthy-delphia Eagles in week 7. If they can manage to put a notch in the W column and find more consistent success on offense, they’ll enter the middle part of the season in good position in the NFC with positive momentum to propel them into a playoff run. I know fans will be much happier than they’ve been with the team’s sluggish start to a year where hopes and expectations were high.
Vikings and NFL News
The Star-Tribune looks at the Eagles’ mistakes that contributed to their loss against the Giants on Thursday. It’s probably yesterday’s discussion, but I don’t mind revisiting misery for the Eagles or their fans.
For those of you planning to watch some college football today, here’s a schedule of today’s games, from CBS Sports.
A full schedule for week 6 of NFL action, courtesy of NFL.com.
Brock Purdy is out again this week and Mac Jones is listed as questionable, although it sounds like he’ll likely play, according to NFL.com. Lamar Jackson will also be out for a second straight game, and that team turns to dog turds when he’s not out there.
Yahoo Sports provides an injury tracker for injury updates around the NFL. They also provide some advice on fantasy matchups to exploit for week 6.

Is looking good. Chiefs to the 25 up 27-17, only 3:30 left in the game.
#nojinx
30-17, 2:20 left, no timeouts left other than 2m warning.
#nojinx
4th and 1 at the 36, incomplete.
KC ball, ballgame!
#nojinx anyway.
Scrum breaks out as time expires. Fun.
Detroits DB Branch slaps a Swifty that starts it.
Good start to the 2nd half.
20-10 Swiftys.
Can both teams lose?
Can and have.
Neither team is undefeated.
THAT was an NFL QB pass for a TD by Goff. In case you need something to use as a reference. That was a 10.
Now they’re talking about Swift… please God.
Nice run after catch by Travis Swift.
Lions end up with a field goal after scoring a TD on 4th down, that was called back for an illegal shift on the QB. Very weird. Then they got a delay of game.
4th and goal at the 1.
Campbell will go for it.
Lucky play. Goff was the receiver, bobbled the ball, it bounced off a defender and back to Goff for the TD.
Wait, penalty, Illegal Motion.
Now another penalty, delay of game.
So the Loins get FG not TD.
Lions offense starting out strong. Matriculating the ball down the field with ease.
Matriculating – you must have gone to school before their was a teachers union.
Which announcer used that term and made it NLNVF worthy?
Hank Stram… as the head coach of the Chiefs, back in the 60’s in a Super Bowl.
I remember Hank, listened to him growing up.
Real football back then.
Matriculate means to enroll in college, but Stram famously used the term to Len Dawson as they were driving down the field in the Super Bowl in the late 60’s (1967 I think).
They beat the Vikings on that day BTW… so had to be the 1969 season.
I knew all of that. ’69 SB was at the end of the ’68 season. 12-2 Vikings with the #1 offense and the #1 defense in the NFL.
The Vikings thought of that SB as an exhibition. Got drunk the night before, fumbled the opening kickoff and were not upset that they lost.
So are we a Chiefs fan tonight?
Definitely.
Even a Swifty Fan if I have to be.
Only for one night though.
Laughing… man, that’s a tough one for me.
Packers kick a field goal to go up by 9 with 1:52 left in the game.
Final.
Oh well, it was not to be.
Flacco leads another TD drive. Great back shoulder throw for 19 yards.
Flacco dances around and finds a receiver for the two point conversion too. Pretty remarkable.
They need to get a stop to have a chance for the comeback win.
Come On Cinncy!!
The Colts QB Anthony Richardson apparently suffered an orbital fracture of his eye in warm-ups today. He was using a leg band stretching device (I think) and somehow injured himself with it. He spent the game in the hospital.
It snapped back and hit him in the eye? Self inflicted wound??
That sound as bad as kicking in a window because you locked yourself out of the house and inuring yourself.
Not that anyone would do that.
Laughing…
Bengals receivers are dropping Flacco’s passes badly. One receiver alone has three drops.
Packers come back with a TD drive. Crap.
Probably a day late and a dollar short, but I just saw that Penn St fired their coach because they lost to Northwestern. Wow, how the mighty have fallen.
The Oregon loss was acceptable.
The UCLA loss was horri-bad.
The Northwestern loss was ‘beyond the pale’.
Indeed
Flacco leads a TD drive to start the second half against the Packers.
17 plays, 78 yards, 10:14
Was just typing that.
I have SF/Tampa here so I have to follow on-line.
I have Sunday ticket, so I can watch any game. I put up the screen showing three games at a time, so I can keep track of things.
Definitely pulling for Flacco today. I expect the Packers to win in the end though.
That is all right.
I wouldn’t watch the FTP even if they were on free tv here.
The Packers aren’t as good as the national media and their fans think they are.
For those interested the Bengals did manage to have 65 yards of total offense in the first half. Zero points.
Continuing our food network trend I’ve been busy.
Had the porterhouse last night and it was great.
After listening to SoCal went to Panda at lunch and had the orange chicken
On the way home, picket up the BBQ pork for dinner tonight.
Don’t yet know about tomorrow, but it’s been a good weekend.
The Teacher has some brots out for tonight, not sure exactly what she will do with them but I am sure it will be yummy.
Just went to our local ‘Chef’s Store’ and got a 10 Pork Loin on sale for $1.79lb. We cut it into 3 roasts and two sets of 4 3/4 inch thick Pork Steaks (that is what she called them, bigger than pork chops).
We are indeed eating well.
Suppose we should go all out. When/if the Socialist take over, we’ll get out weekly handout and all will eat the same.
Must say, I really love pork!
Campbells used to make a Sweet and Tangy cooking sauce that was great with Pork, not too bad for chicken either. They don’t seem to make/offer it anymore, at least we can’t find it around here or on Amazon.
I need to find a suitable replacement since ‘spices’ are not something I am very good with. I can follow are recipe or use a mix/sauce.
I know a simply Campbells recipe for pork chops (from my wife).
Fry chops in a pin . Poor a little worchester sauce on them.
Also put a thinly sliced piece of onion on each chop.
Smother with Campbells cream of mushroom soup
This is the part I’m not sure of but think you cover, turn the heat down and let it simmer for a while.
Tastes pretty good.
Got to make sure it is cooked all the way thru.
Which is why the crock pot is my ‘go to’.
I think she fries the chops pretty good on both sides. Then pours worchester sauce on with slice of onion and smothers with the soup. Then lets simmer for like 30 minutes or so. It’s done.
I’d ask her now, but not sure what to say – I need this for the football blog.
Just an fyi, when I met Brad and his wife, I learned that she calls us the Lutheran Ladies because of all of our discussions, including recipes. I thought that was hilarious.
The Teacher will cook the Pork Steaks/Medalions while I will do the roasts.
The crock pot and I are good with roasts.
You can actually eat them with a tiny tint of pink
We do that alot , but last time i did it they were $1.39. Not a bad price, and good pork
Flacco starting for the Bengals. Can’t believe that. They just went three and out on their first series. Love threw an interception on his first drive, so Green Bay now has the ball for the second time. Flacco having to call plays and run the offense right out of the gate after being traded is gonna be tough.
LOL, some said no way Flacco would play today after just having been signed by the Bengals. Guess I was right after all when I said he’d start.
I can see why they play him right away though, Bengals fanbase would have rioted if they would’ve trotted out Jake Browning one more time.
well the Bengals offense did have 3 plays in the first quarter and were out gained 120 – 0 yards.
Maybe there’s “playing” and “being on the field” – just saying.
I’m watching that game, of course the Bengals offense looks dead in the water. Still holding out hope that Flacco can beat them one more time somehow.
I definitely said that…
Good thing he has sooooo much experience he can’t handle situations like this.
At least he doesn’t have to be on the sideline with his OL trying to get the cadences set ala Dobby.
After that nice round, my wife gave me some Shepards pie she cooked up last night. Put it in the air fryer/convection oven I bought her a couple Christmases ago. She started heating it up while I was driving home. I changed out of my sweaty clothes, she fed me that meal, and I was asleep in about 5 minutes. Woke up with one of the cats curled up on me snoozin.
Shepards Pie.
That reminds me, saw an article that Costco has that as a seasonal special and it recommended that you get two and freeze one.
Much more easier that assembling one yourself.
Yes, takes a while to get everything seasoned, cooked up, and put together. My wife likes to cook though, so I’m the beneficiary.
I have made it. I didn’t do as well as what I have had a restaurant’s.
I may try it again now that I have more time on my hands.
My wife makes a great shepatds pie. Veggies and potatoes from our garden, and she uses ground lamb
Nice. I love how the house smells when she cooks too.
Ahhh Dallas loses to Carolina.
Too Bad, So Sad.
In case anyone forgot the points made in the discussion about Wentz/JJ (QB) starting next week vs The Poopeaters.
https://thevikingage.com/kevin-o-connell-faces-seismic-decision-could-torpedo-minnesota-vikings-season
KOC will play McCarthy as soon as he thinks that ankle is ready. He said something about needing McCarthy to be 100%. It’s OK to play an injured Wentz though. Kind of a weird dynamic. Maybe he thinks Wentz is less hurt with bad ribs, and a bad shoulder, than McCarthy is with a bad ankle? Maybe we just play Brosmer.
Nice 63 yard pitch and catch by Sam to take the lead vs the Jags 10-6.
Ugly games so far.
Defense and kickers.
1970s football at its finest.
Other than NE-NO you are correct.
Shot an 80 today, 39 on the front, 41 on the back. Haven’t swung a club in months, so really surprised at how well I played. I even hit my driver on the par 5’s, and hit it well. Tricky course with lots of water, trees, and swamp. Played with a couple guys who were bombers. Beat both of them playing it safe all day. Chipped the ball beautifully. Stiffed several of them. Just a great day in beautiful weather.
Nice round – congratulations. Weather is great here too.
I played yesterday, overcast but still nice weather for Florida.
I need a chipping lesson – what’s your secret.
Chip with your hips. Always rock into that back hip, even if it’s just the slightest movement. Then a flat left wrist at the bottom.
If you fat your chips a lot like I used to, you have to use a little more wrist too.
Kidding. I never “chip” the ball. Never learned so just use “pitch” shots.
Good chip shots go a long way. I had 2 great round this week, then stunk up the course on Friday. I was almost as bad as the Jets offense. I even started lar, bogey, par then the wheels came off. It is a humbling game
I had a par on a 165 yard par three with water all along the left side, wrapping around behind the green. I hit a high fade with my seven wood that hit the lone tree on the right side of the green, and bounced out into the fairway, 5 yards short of the green. Chipped the ball to 3 feet with a 9 iron for par.
Holding by the Donkos in the end zone = safety. 11-10 Jets now.
Buttholemouth is sure mad at the officials, nice to see.
Jets with one last chance, 2 min left, no time outs, need to get within FG range for the win, Jets at midfield, down 13-11. Not sure how good their kicker is.
It would be nice for the Jets to pull this one out.
Jets go for it on 4th and 8 rather than try a 61 yarder.
Of course Fields gets sacked, ball game.
Defensive game. 13-11. Don’t know if they were playing in bad weather or what.
Fields is terrible. Holds the ball way way to long and is inaccurate to boot. He must be great in practice cause coaches keep playing him.
Not bad weather but i did see quite a few slips on what looked like a decent field.
Jets time management is awful
WTF was that just before the half. Reminds me of that horrible Bores game when they couldn’t get unf*cked and kick a FG for the win.
And what is the Jets coach doing going out onto the middle of the field right after a play, before they could even get the pile sorted out to spot the ball.
Seems like it should have been a penalty.
Agreed.
Just playing to not lose, so they will lose.
Which of these certainties upsets you the most?
#perspective
Taxes.
Especially when they waste it on Transgender surgeries in Uganda or some such.
Taxes.
We all die, and have minimal control on when or how. Why sweat it?
Super Bowl – We will eventually get one, but maybe not before my death!
Taxes we have a little bit of control, but the ones collecting them waste MY money. That is what pisses me off
You just ruined my day now….
‘You just ruined my day now’
A Vikings win will cheer you up…. oh wait. A Loin loss will cheer you up. Of course the FTP losing always cheers us up but that is less likely this week.
Taxes, taxes, and taxes. We all die and the Vikings will probably win the SB this year.
That’s easy, taxes
Jets are hanging with Buttholemouth in London 10-6, forgot that there was an early game.
Jets make me sad. They were my deceased brothers favorite team just because we had the famous Joe Namath poster up in our bedroom growing up. Seeing them reminds me of him and them being so bad year after year would have made him sad, so that make me say.
If that makes any sense?
Jets are another one of those teams that no matter what they suck, they need different owners
Looks like Brad is a day late and a dollar short.
Wonder what is causing scheduling issues with the Treads like the 3pm posting the other day.
I know I couldn’t do any better and we shouldn’t complain about getting free stuff. I figure people are just really busy or that there are issues with the site that we as users don’t really see.
Some really interesting results from yesterday’s collage games like Penn St losing to Northwestern, 3rd loss in a row. Not many saw that collapse coming. Indiana is looking legit after beating Oregon at home.
Age has its benefits. Since I’m retired, what day of the week doesn’t matter so much. Now, I do take notice of where the men’s rooms are when out.
I often rely on this site to let me know what day it is.
#grin
Retirement is great. This week i golfed 3 days and went fishing one…
Condolences on the golf but congrats on the fishing.

Good morning, SKOL!
FTP!

Some good football games today. Lions/Chiefs should be entertaining.
The noon games I have are pretty boring (Browns-Steelers or Cowpies-Panthers) so that will be a good time for a nap.
You haven’t made a pick in the survival league I started
kickoff for the afternoon games is the cutoff
Isnt Surly out?
No, he has one strike
Oops.
Thanks Rob!
