Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts

The divisional round is upon us! By the end of the day tomorrow, we’ll know who will compete for the conference title next weekend. Although I hope he proves me wrong, I feel that Darnold will turn back into a pumpkin this weekend, and I feel that the Bills will take out the Broncos. Those are my two “upset” picks this weekend.

Vikings and NFL News

A summary of divisional round inactives from NFL.com.

Also from NFL.com, Aaron Rodgers is NOT expected to return to Pittsburgh now that Mike Tomlin has left.

The Seahawks continue to play games with the injury report. CBS Sports reports that the Seahawks “don’t know” if Sam Darnold will play this weekend.

ESPN reports that the Packers are expected to sign LaFleur and Gutentisk to extensions.

Found a company that makes good guns and you can fully customize them, all the way down to the serial number. Might have to go with this design I threw together.

I’ve been married 29 years, but still have a lot to learn.

One of the projects at the Love Shack my sweetheart has been wanting to complete is pulling a wall mounted air conditioner out of the north wall. Neither of the a/c units work, I had pulled the west wall one in October which was a classic snafu consisting of sledge hammer work, prying, cursing, cutting, pushing, pulling, etc until we got it out (~4 hours).

Since her DIY husband relented and decided we could pay someone to paint the upstairs, the task of taking out the second unit moved up the priority list so the painters could tape, sand, and paint the drywall I put up after the unit was pulled.

Additional items on Saturday schedule were to pull all the baseboard trim upstairs and get all the mounts off the walls. The moose was a bear, so to speak, sitting about 18 feet off the ground in a hard to reach spot. During our morning walk, we were each listing off items we would need to bring to the Love Shack, my wife said a sawzall with metal blade would be the best bet for the a/c, I said uh huh but didn’t see how that would help, so didn’t bring it. Rookie mistake.

I get all the caulking and glue scraped off the outside of the unit to the best of my ability, freezing my balls in the wind and cold. I start beating the unit with a hammer, yanking on it, to no avail. My wife says yeah you are just going to have to start cutting it with the sawzall. “I didn’t bring it”.

A stream of vindictive profanity followed. Such foul language from such a beautiful woman.

I drove back to the shouse and got the sawzall. Ten minutes later the a/c unit was dropped in pieces in the back of the side by side and I got to work putting in the drywall patch, insulation, and exterior sheathing.

Like I said, rookie mistake.

Oh, it gets easier all the time to put the DIY projects in manageable chunks. It actually took counseling for me to realize I am terrible at goal management, in that I will let a goal (say, cut up all the deadfall AND stack it AND burn it) consume my free time from dawn til dusk. I remind myself when my wife says you aren’t going to get all that done in a day that she is looking out for my OCD tendencies.

As for aches and pains, I thank those that mentioned it on here for DDP yoga. Helps immensely with keeping me flexible and toned without a gym membership.

Many docs work harder after training than during training. The field has a way of attracting the over achiever.

A lot of what I do at work is routine and I am much faster now at reading routine stuff than during training.

The life (outside work) projects I do as part of the work-life balance are what stimulate me now. Like I can’t wait until I receive my bee packages and start raising my girls this spring. Although the bees are from Minnesota so I have concerns about their gender identity and mental health.

Williams only completed 58.1% of his passes this year in the regular season, but he did throw 27 TD’s against just 7 interceptions. Right now, he is more freak athlete than great QB. Ben Johnson got a lot out of Williams this year though. He may be able to get a lot more out of him next year.

Seems like we play this game every season. Undoubtedly there are some fans celebrating a >.500 season. Gah. However, if we beat Chicago by not letting Santos kick the GW FG, that mixes up the wild card, meaning GB would have something to play for week 17, meaning we had McFragile/McPonder and his bruised pinkie and Brosmer going up against GB starters.

MT Viking

Once again the NFC North underwhelms in the playoffs. In the way too early prognostication, how do you think the teams end next season?

When Chauncey M. Depew, a prominent American politician and orator spoke at the christening of the Statue of Liberty on October 28, 1886, his speech included the following passage near its conclusion:

“The rays from this beacon, lighting this gateway to the continent, will welcome the poor and the persecuted with the hope and promise of homes and citizenship. It will teach them that there is room and brotherhood for all who will support our institutions and aid in our development; but that those who come to disturb our peace and dethrone our laws are aliens and enemies forever.”

This sums up my perspective on the illegal immigrants that are violent criminals, and the Islamic extremists trying to enact Sharia law in our country.

C.J. Stroud was less than stellar in his two playoff appearances this season. The Texans won the first game, despite Stroud’s play, but yesterday, the Texans coach should have pulled him after that 3rd interception IMO. He was fried at that point. Moving forward, the Texans need to seriously review these performances. Stroud had a great rookie year, but he’s declining rapidly before our eyes.

Down to the final four, with the Patriots and the Broncos, and the Rams and the Seahawks. Seahawks and Patriots look to be the likely Super Bowl participants. Bo Nix breaking his ankle on the second to last play of the game takes Denver’s chance of getting there way down. The Seahawks seem to be far and away the most complete team, but Sean McVay and Matt Stafford are still formidable. That’s going to be a great game.

OMG… Williams scrambles backwards like 25 yards then lofts up a bomb into the end zone to a wide open receiver… tie game!!!

No holding called on the left tackle, and no OPI called in the end zone

Rams punter with the 33 yard punt, to set the Bears up at their 49.

Bears going to get the ball back in good field position with just under two minutes left, and one timeout. Need a TD to tie, or two point conversion to take the lead.

Rams finally complete a drive in the second half for a TD, up 17-10.

That didn’t look like much of a ‘roughness’ penalty to me.

Ben Johnson has turned the Bears offense around. It’s far more diverse and effective.

Incredibly bad choice by Stafford there, throwing into double coverage. Could have been picked.

Nice 85 yard drive there for a TD by the Rams. 6:33 off the clock, 14 plays.

two former O lineman in this game, both looking much better than they ever did for the Vikings.

Why did it take soo long to change O Line coach?

It took the Vikings 3 weeks to make a change?
Smart teams move off of guys quickly.
