Vikings Discussion and Random Thoughts
I had a much more thorough post about this that I posted on the DN back in the day, but I’m unable to find it, so I’ll do a truncuated version for you here. I will try to find the post in its entirety prior to tomorrow. If I do, I’ll post it here.
Easter weekend is special to us. As most of you are aware, we lost our daugher back in 2014. For those of us of the Christian faith, Easter weekend signifies the resurrection of Jesus, who died so that we could have eternal life. The one thing that keeps me somewhat sane is knowing that someday, I will be reunited with our daughter in heaven. I’m under no delusion that any one denomination or religion has it all right, but I do know that there is someone guiding the ship, and I firmly believe that Jesus is who he said he was. and I am eternally grateful that He gave his life so that we could have life. My family and I are eternally grateful that one day, we will get to hold our daughter once again.
Anyway, happy Easter everyone! Best of luck to any of you who go rabbit hunting, I hope you get one!

We watched a livestream of some storm chasers in this storm the other night. This is a report on that same storm, yikes.

Happy Draft Eve!!!
Will we make a pick tomorrow night?
My guess is no. He’ll trade down for a couple three picks.
O’Connell said today that “we’ve got a pretty detailed plan for how we want to go about” adding one or more quarterbacks to the roster. The delay can be partially attributed to the NFL’s post-draft deadline for free agents affecting teams’ formulas for compensatory draft picks. But general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said last week that the formula is not the only factor.
“We’ve been patient and really evaluated a lot of different ways we could potentially do that,” O’Connell said of adding another quarterback. “There’s potential trades and free agency and still the draft. We’re going through a process of just figuring out who is the player that we want to solidify that room with knowing that J.J. and Brett are here working, starting today, and eventually we’ll complete that room and still have a competitive situation in there, however you look at it.”
Seems like a lot of words to say ‘We will let you know when we are done doing what we plan to do’.
It is the most logical response to constant questioning of ‘How will you handle the QB2 situation?’ and still be polite. I would have just said ‘Nonya’.
For any Mockers (or hindsighters) here is a good site for looking at trades to see which team benefited the most:

Slick must have been your trade partner…..
I like how we will be the only team drafting in 2026!
Next pope….
“Peter the Roman”… according to Saint Malachy.
Ho-Hum Monday….
I think Vikings go best available….we have needs, but no “must-fill” needs. I hope they don’t trade down, but have to trust they know what they are doing.
I am done worrying about QB2. They claim to really like their current QB2 so they might not do anything.
In more important news. In my second time out I shot an 89 yesterday…now I have been suckered into thinking I will have a good year on the course.
You’re wise – ‘done worrying about QB2.’
Last week wife and I went on a mini trip. Just before we were leaving my dear wife says have you checked the ‘spare tire’ lately. Told her don’t worry about it.
Ha! Right…hell many vehicles don’t even have a spare tire anymore.
Hey NoDak, congrats on the round. Hope it is indeed a precursor to more good rounds this year.
QB2 appears to have been decided a while back. We will still need a camp arm, and likely someone on the roster as a 3rd QB in case of emergency.
Of course we do need a camp arm and someone to call a QB3 – but if we get to the point of needed a QB3 the season is over – It’s just that contractually we are obligated to play all of the games.
Yes, generally QB3 (and even QB2) if needed, aren’t going to be all that great. This is where a great running game and a strong defense come into play. “Quarterback proofing” the team can help keep you competitive.
Yep.
QB2 will likely be somebody signed after roster moves or maybe a low end trade.
I’ve read that overall, the QB class in this years draft is considered weak. Saw one guy say that Cam Ward would have been the 7th best QB in last years draft.
In addition, there isn’t an elite offensive tackle in this draft, and no cornerback is, in the eyes of evaluators, a can’t-miss prospect. There seem to be more questions in this draft than answers. Multiple teams consider the value to be not in Round 1, but in Rounds 2 and 3 and maybe bleeding into Round 4.
Hmmm…
Perhaps an advantage. KAM has put together a strong roster so if no one can draft good players we’re ahead.
Good take.
Yes, I am pleased with how our roster currently is constructed.
maybe we should just forgo the draft all together
keep our picks for next year and just get to practicing
Coming back??
Unlikely.
He wants a starting job, Atlanta wants someone to take his contract, KAM wants calm and cheap.
I could see where he would be a decent to good QB2 but don’t see it working out.
Only if Atlanta cuts him, which they would have done already to avoid an additional
$10 million dollar payment.
Kirk will likely demand more money in a trade for 2026.
A trade is not happening with the Vikings.
He can be JJ’s backup if the Falcons give Kwesi a 1st and 2nd.
I see that I didn’t miss much.
No draft news, nothing on our QB2 situation, can’t even start new threads for a Monday morning.
Oh and RIP Pope Francis.
RIP
Three days till the draft. I’m going with KAM trading down to get more picks. Maybe out of the first round altogether.
Depends on who is there.
If a great prospect falls to us then ‘stick and pick’.
We are at the point with our roster that ‘quality trumps quantity’.
IMHO of course.
Remember, no one knows if a prospect is “better” than any existing player at any position until they’ve proven it on a real NFL field, in a real NFL game. Prospects are just that. Prospects.
I’ve read a lot of amateur draft expert posts saying they KNOW which players will ball out. 😜
Yeah, every year we hear that, and every year they’re more wrong than right by a wide margin.
have you guys not been looking at my mock drafts???
just trust me
Gr8 dad!
great gif haha
Aren’t all your drafts different? You’re confused and we are supposed to trust you? Sounds like the Dems.
Wasn’t Cine considered a good prospect.
Yup.
He was indeed. I liked Hamilton better though.
everyone….but KAM did as well…
Happy Monday,
Hope everyone had a great Easter weekend.
Happy Monday JV. Upright and breathing… got a pulse. It’s a great day!
Perfect night
SOMEONE BUY THE TWINS AND MOVE THEM AND POHLADS.
We might go to a game on Saturday before we head home.
Take them back to Dakota.
You could buy cheap seats and move down. Lucky to draw 10,000.
We’ll probably go, don’t care to come back to Murderapolis again until training camp.
The moment they do, MLB will implement a salary cap. Then the San Antonio Twin Stars will win the World Series. 😔
Incredible win for Justin Thomas today at the RBC Heritage. Sank a 21 foot putt in a playoff to get it done for the first time in 3 years. First Rory breaks through at The Masters, and now Justin battles to the end to win. Great stuff two weeks in a row.
Scheffler is still good but seems to lost a edge from last year. But then hard to match.
Happy Resurrection Day!
And yes, GF, you should look forward to holding your daughter again.
He is Risen.
The start of the 2025 season is upon us…
Stopped to go for a walk in Faith, South Dakota on our way home. Found this old Barracuda sitting in town. Nobody was home, dammit.
That looks like 2nd generation model.
1967 to 1970 ish
I was thinking ‘66, but I know very little about Mopar, I’m a GM guy.
hey Mjolnir.
Hope things are going ok during the shit-storm you are dealing with.
Amen
A San Francisco-based drag queen group is facing backlash after its Easter performance, which mocked Jesus and Christianity, was marketed to children.
The controversial show, held during the Easter weekend, featured performances that some felt crossed a line by making light of sacred Christian symbols and beliefs. Despite the growing outrage, the group has defended its performance, claiming it was meant to be an inclusive celebration of creativity and self-expression. However, the performance was marketed to a young audience during one of Christianity’s most sacred holidays.
I guess my question is, what parent lets their child attend an event like this?
Why do they insist on doing things they know that people will find offensive? It shows that they don’t give two shits about being inclusive, they only care about being shit-bag human beings who like to go out of their way to be ass holes.
It would be like Christians showing up at a gay pride parade with a huge banner that says “all gays will go to hell”. Pretty sure I haven’t seen that happen.
Totally how I feel as well GF. They insist on pushing their “narrative” in our face. I do think the tide is turning on this crap though. People are fed up with the woke ideology and gay rights.
“all gays will go to hell”
Seen that. Plenty. Difference is, the pride parades are not marketed to children.
Here’s my position… I don’t care what you do behind closed doors. Just don’t push it down my throat.
I feel the exact same. I’m the last person to judge someone, I mind my own damn business and let people be who they are as long as they aren’t hurting somebody else.
If you are offended by what they are doing, then you are the bigot, obviously.
My wife bought me this auto return putting mat thing last week, for some reason. I didn’t want it, and I didn’t really think I would use it. She wanted me to hit some putts on it though, so I did, to satisfy her. The kittens love it. They chase the ball, and follow it to the hole. Then when it comes back on the track, they’re chasing it down that. They lay down right in the middle of the mat, and want me to putt the ball to them to play with. It’s a cat toy now.
Take a wedge and pitch over the cat into the hole. Great wedge practice.
Good morning and have a great day.
Good morning JR. Nice suggestion. I’ll give it a whirl. I have to admit, the kittens make it fun.
Poll question. Favorite Easter Candy or treat?
My father loves PEEPS. Those things are really kind of nasty, and he would open the box and leave on top of the counter since he preferred them stale.
I still would eat them of course, since…Sugar.
I was more of a cadbury egg or just plain chocolate guy.
And, solid chocolate bunny, not the damned hollow ones.
Robin eggs
Solid choice! forgot about those.
Mine too
I was always like you. Chocolate, and not the hollow Bunny ones.
Reese’s peanut butter cup rabbits
Or any dark chocolate something or other.
🤮 As worthless as tits on a boar.
Anything chocolate sold as Easter candy.
I agree, no hollow pansy bunny.
Reese, snickers, Cadbury caramel, the list is endless.
Im a chocolate whore.
The Teacher loves to put Peeps in her morning coffee.
I guess they dissolved right up and makes it better for her.
Only sweet ones, no sour watermelon or anything.
Good morning all, and happy Easter.
Good morning, and Happy Easter!
Wolves beating the shit out of the Lakers. Yikes.
The bride’s great grandmother had a heart attack or something during the wedding & had to be air-lifted out. Crazy. She’s 98.
Or was 98, not sure.
Oh man… that’s a heck of a way to start a marriage.
They actually handled it pretty well. The dad (a cowboy guy, really good dude) got up after everythihg ended, and said “she was 98 and surrounded by people who love her, if it was her day to go, that’s the best way for it to happen”.
The wedding went off without a hitch after a delay.
Amazing
Sounds like she’s alive. They were talking about DNR wishes, and not sure of the ultimate outcome, but she’s still around for now. Sounds like she’s at peace with the fact that it’s her time, if that is the case. Pretty cool stuff.
Well that’s good news. 98 is about as good as one can hope for.
Her mother lived to 104, I guess.
Ok, DE beat me to this, but I won’t have time to post tomorrow morning.
Amen! Happy Easter!
GF – just got back in town and read your thought above about Easter snd your daughter. I don’t know any more than the next guy but very much believe you will be with your daughter again. And there’s quite a few relatives of mine I want to see again as well.
I was also moved earlier in. the week with MT’s story about losing is dog. Reminded me there are a lot more importand things than football and politics. And of course, I spent several hours this week thinking about dogs of the past.
GF and everyone else, have a great Easter.
Thank you, JR, happy Easter to you & yours as well. Hope you have a great weekend!
Happy Easter JR. There definitely are more important things than football and politics.
MOCK DRAFT SEASON COMING TO A CLOSE! HALLELUJAH!!
Now we head into “I told we should have drafted so & so” for the next 10 years
Wow.
Possibly some of my distant distant relatives. (My great great grandfather and gg grandmother emigrated with their boys in the 1890s.)
I think we have a little over $17M in cap space going into the draft, so we’re healthy. Still need a decent 3rd QB on the roster in my opinion, but teams have gone through the season with only two guys on the roster before.
I’ve been watching this team for 45 years, and we’re in the best position we’ve ever been in, in my opinion.
I’ve hear rumors of golf ball sized hail, but have never seen any. Our middle child lives in southern Wisc and they got hit yesterday morning with a hail storm. He woke up to his yard full of hail and a broken window. He saw a lot of cars around with hail damage and a few with windshields completely broken out. Fortunately they have a garage, so there was no car damage, but he is having a insurance guy come out to see if he has roof damage.
If his insurance company is State Farm, they will claim there is no damage, even if there are holes in the roof.
No kidding, crooks.
Broken window
Hail, not snow.
Holy shit
I’ve only seen hail like that once, in Oklahoma City. Really crazy. It’s why I always insisted on “covered parking” at my domicile.
He’ll get a new roof.
The fam is still asleep. Been up a while. Trying to be quiet, I might walk down & get this hotel’s version of breakfast food.
Good morning GF. Been up since 6 a.m. EST. Slept very well last night. Thank uou for the pics and comments on your exploits yesterday.
We’re now 5 days away from the draft. I think KAM might trade down, if there is a willing partner, to get a second and third round pick.
I have a feeling they may move Adderall or someone like that to get more picks. Could also see them moving an edge rusher since they have an abundance. Van Ginkel or Greenard maybe? They have Turner waiting in the wings. Not saying they will, but they COULD.
I hadn’t thought about them making an actual player trade to garner picks, but that makes some sense. Greenard has a $22.3M cap hit this year. Trading him could be “fiscally” good for the team, and also garner some picks.
BTW, I don’t think Hockenson is worth his $16.6M cap hit either, but that’s just me.
I don’t either, but his contract makes it almost impossible to move him.
I like getting up early, too. Kiddo and I went to the fitness room & moved some weight around last night, feel great this morning.
I guess it’s the military in us. I’m up between 5:30 and 6 pretty much every day. Sometimes earlier. The cats seem to like when I’m up early, and they chase each other around while I’m making coffee. They hop up on the counters to supervise, and just generally make a nuisance of themselves. Have to be careful walking around as they are often under foot. I like watching the sunrise on the back porch with a cup of coffee. Just a perfect way to start the day.
Yup, army habit that never dies. I also color code my sock drawer.
Laughing. Still fold my underwear six inch square.
Better keep your gig line straight.
Man, I haven’t thought of a gig line in a LONG time JR.
Still do, habit.
I’m a night owl. I prefer to stay up late and sleep in. Of course when I was younger I could stay up really late and sleep until noon. I can’t do that anymore. By midnight I am ready to go to bed and then usually I am up by 8 ish or on a rare occassion 9 ish.
My wife is like that, she’s shifted more to my style through the years. I’m out of bed full of energy, hard to sleep when I’m awake.
I’m never full of energy in the morning.
I’m a psycho in the morning, full of energy & good cheer.
LOL, kiddo got up & we went & got breakfast.
Water park opens in 8 minutes.
