Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
Hey, it’s finally Friday! We’re rolling into a beautiful fall week that’s predicted to turn into a beautiful winter weekend for us up here in the Northern Dakota. It isn’t too bad, we’re only expecting a dusting of snow. I love running while it’s snowing, very peaceful and relaxing. Hopefully kiddo and I can get some miles in over the weekend.
Lots of sad NFL news yesterday and last night. Mental illness is a real issue, very sad.
Then there was this.
Vikings and NFL News
“Experts” are predicting a close finish in Sunday’s Vikings-Ravens matchup, per Vikings.com.
All the latest roster news for every NFL team from NFL.com.
From the AP, former NFL WR Antonio Brown was arrested on attempted murder charges. Brown never was the same after Burfict almost killed him with a cheap shot to the head in the playoffs in 2015, I think that hit did permanent damage.
Former NFL RB Jamaal Adams was arrested on felony domestic violence charges, per Yahoo Sports.
Cowboys defensive lineman Marshwan Kneeland died yesterday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, details from ESPN.
From Yahoo Sports, the Cowboys and others around the NFL pay tribute to Marshawn Kneeland after his death yesterday. This is very sad.
Not to be cynical, but it would be nice to see NFL teams and the NFL put more resources into helping players, past and present, who are dealing with mental issues than they do into paying lip service after a tragedy. The NFL does an extreme disservice to the players who put their health on the line to make billions for the league and owners.

Vikings Game Day Insights and Predictions
“The More It Changes The More It Stays The Same”.
Treadwell might see action tomorrow…
Unbelievable….there have to be better options for the Colts.
How fast can you get to Berlin?
I played tight end…but probably just as fast as Slothwell
I’m assuming better hands too.
Long drive
He is going to ‘break out’ any time now.
Maybe that time is now!!
Good morning all and SKOL. We have a really good matchup tomorrow. Should be a great game. Can’t wait. The Aggies are playing Missouri at 3:30 Eastern. That could be an interesting game too.
Oh yeah, FTP!
BYU/Texas Tech, Mizzou/A&M, Indiana/Penn State, Oregon/Iowa, Bama/LSU, Notre Dame/Navy…..
and tonight….. True Freshman T.J. Lateef returns to L.A. to make his first career start for my beloved Big Red against UCLA in the Rose Bowl…..
Good day of the foosballs
Sure is. We’re going to Texas Roadhouse for lunch at 11:30 so we can get home and watch these great matchups today.
Enjoy that. I’ve got ham & bean soup on the tripod, cornbread and smoked chicken thighs.
Awesome!

Federal Appeals Court: Ohio school district can’t discipline students who won’t use others’ “preferred pronouns”.
I can imagine what some of the students would have come up with as Preferred Pronouns if others were forced to use it.
His Imperial Majesty?
The Almighty?
The Stud?
The Princess?
Many others that would only have been limited by teenagers imagination which is not much of a limit.
I had a very good friend who had “SG” added to the nameplate on her office door many years ago. I thought is was for some degree or certification she had earned. She had it up there for a couple years and no one thought anything about it. I finally asked what it stood for and she smiled and said “Supreme Goddess”. I laughed hard at that.
74 year old Arnold Palmer in his last round ever playing in his own tournament at Bay Hill. His last shot from the 18th fairway with a driver. 16 year old Sam Saunders on the bag, was incredulous at the shot grandad pulled off.
I figured out a way to open the government without Congress.
We’ll do just what that group did earlier this week over food stamps – just went to court and got some Judge to say the government has to pay them. Even if it’s closed.
So, we go to court next week and say we need the Air Traffic Controllers and TSA paid or there will be dire consequences. Judge says OK and they get paid.
And then next week, well pick which you want to get open, go to court and so on snd so on.
We don’t need Congress.
Former New Hampshire Democrat Rep. Stacie Laughton, a biological male originally named Barry Charles Laughton Jr. who now identifies as a transgender woman, recently pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the sexual exploitation of children.
In 2012, the Democrat was lauded as the first openly transgender person elected to a U.S. state legislature, and he was elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives three times — 2012, 2020, and 2022 — but resigned each time.
Laughton’s political career came crashing down following his 2002 arrest for domestic violence and criminal mischief, in addition to a 2003 sexual assault charge.
Meanwhile, on Monday, Laughton also pleaded guilty in a Boston federal court to several more recent charges after Laughton’s female partner, Lindsay Groves, admitted to sending him sexually explicit photos of children — child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
When will we admit these people have serious issues and are not to be celebrated or emulated?
Dems now claim to be a ‘Big Tent’ party.
Yep, they will let in Communists, pedifiles, people who text about shooting political opposites and hoping that their kids die, people with Nazi tattoos, etc, etc.
The will tolerate anyone who thinks will win them elections. Just no conservatives who believe in a logical immigration policy, no men in girls sports/safe spaces, or anyone with common sense.
This is true… anyone who hates America is welcome.
If our friends in Virginia are willing to elect a Democrat AG who said a Republican politician should get two shots to the head, and two more for his kids. The head law enforcement official in the state.
The Democrats are trash, but what does it say about the people of the country who vote for people like this.
You might note the mainstream media ran zero stories on this in Virginia. Think about that. They don’t call it programming for nothing.
Still, I heard two Va US Senators and several VA members of Congress say ‘no big deal’. there appears to be no limit to what would be OK in their eyes.
Oh for sure they minimize anything they do as no big deal, or “we’re moving forward”. Then they go on an all out character assassination campaign on Sydney Sweeney for a jeans ad.
If I’m reading the tea leaves right, Hamm is available to play Sunday. We’ll see if he gets the nod.
Well then for sure the offense will explode.
That could get messy.
No surprises on the injury report.
I’m surprised that there is no surprises.
Trump pardons Strawberry
Decent thing to do I think. He served time and paid off his back taxes. Strawberry found faith in Christianity and has been sober for more than a decade, and he has become active in ministry and started a recovery center.
He paid his dues.
Agree completely.
If the headline had said ‘Biden pardons Strawberry’ I would’ve thought something very different….. and totally believed it.
10 points in under 30 seconds is impressive.
For a couple of moments I was thinking this was Thompson (ND) and was stunned by how many players they had on the sidelines.
LOL, they may not have that many people in the whole town.
!!!!
The Z key. Weren’t those good times?
It was good – during my hiatus I’m guessing most people have moved on but now I’m back and I’m bringin my old bullsh!t!!
Glad you’re back…I saw the sentencing hearing on YT, man you almost got your hands on that judge!

still flat – still chaotic with the blue hairs
Yes, the traffic was fairly disgusting.

An interviewer tried to get to Sidney Sweeney to apologize for her Jean/Gene Ad. She handled it well.
Good answer to a question about a completely fabricated “issue”.
she’s perfect
She is more than just a perfect pair of boobs.
She seems to have a good head on her shoulders which is rare on attractive women and even rarer in Hollywood.
I honestly didn’t like Sydney that much until she started trolling the complainers. Now I enjoy her.
I didn’t really know anything about her till I watch her skit on SNL. She was comfortable making fun of herself and she has gotten better every time I have heard her talk.
Although I have not watch her in any movies, but I don’t watch many movies.
I wonder if I showed my boobs if I could become an actor?
Finer than frog hair
Regarding the punt up above – looks to me like he was anticipating getting run into and tried to make a last second adjustment and failed miserably.
Pretty rough, that had to be embarrassing
I punted a ball over at the school one day, my other foot landed on an ice patch, and I fell flat on my back. At least it was not national TV, my son was the only one who saw it. We both got a good laugh.
Glad you survived.
Are you practicing for an audition for the Keystone Cops perhaps?
This was a few years ago. It hasn’t been forgotten, my son was there to witness it.
I have watched some of the “experts” break down JJ’s game vs the Lions. Although he played adequately and made some great plays…He left a lot of meat on the bone. Plenty of open receivers he didn’t go to where the play was schemed for him to go to them. He can get much, much, better. Hopefully that comes with more game reps.
Lots of so called “exports,” Some good, many poor. Your eyes are probably about as good as anyone elses.
Probably the same could be said about every NFL QB that ever played.
I liked the video someone posted earlier this week with Sullivan reviewing the plays. He does a good job of showing where the ball was probably supposed to go and why he thought JJ went where he did.
When I watch the all 22, I try and do the same thing. I look at the defense first, and try and determine what they are doing. Then I watch the route concepts on the play call. I know enough about route combinations and their intent to understand pre-snap reads and what the QB should be looking for post snap. I say this as a general comment, because NFL defenses are playing more and more man and zone match hybrid coverages, and determining where a QB’s eyes should go first is tricky sometimes. This is one reason “experts” disagree a lot. Sometimes the play concept is simply to get the ball to a specific receiver, regardless of coverage. So knowing what the overall intent of the play call can be tricky. Sometimes a play call is meant only to set up the defense for a future play call.
All that said, there were clear errors in McCarthy’s play Sunday. That’s what every single young QB in the league does though. Over time what you want to see is less and less errors as the QB develops, and more and more understanding of the defensive scheme he’s facing. It will never be perfect though. RGIII never got past first base in this regard. He started off hot, but he could never get to the next level, much less the top tier of QB play. It’s what comes next for every young QB. It’s what they learn, and how they apply that learning.
McCarthy is just the same as every young QB. He’s not a generational player, even though that’s how he is presented. He has a long way to go. Maybe one day he will become a guy like Brady, Brees, Manning, Marino, etc. Right now he isn’t close to any of that though. People need to stop hyping young guys before they show they are worthy of being called “great”. Cousins told Jefferson after his first season, “yeah, now do it again, and again, and again.” It’s being consistently good over a long career that gets you into the “great” discussion.
Fans and pundits alike go overboard on young players every single year.
Yes, and like I said earlier, at the end of game, you can see both receivers over the middle of the field are in front of their man and open, much easier completion than the one to Nailor. Though I am very glad that worked out.
Yep, McCarthy decided on his own, or he was instructed by KOC, that Nailor was the primary target on the play. It was a really good throw to the back shoulder, right where the ball should have gone, but Nailor also made a really good catch. The throws over the middle would have been a lot easier completions. Just happy the catch was made and it ended the game.
Let me ask you since you know something about throwing the ball. From my untrained eyes, does not look like a back shoulder throw, trajectory is wrong. Looks more like an under thrown ball that the receiver turned around and made a great catch. What am I missing?
So throwing outside, you’re either leading the receiver, or throwing behind him based on the CB’s positioning. You throw to the back shoulder when the CB is in perfect position to prevent a throw in front of the receiver. This technique has become a staple throw, that every QB practices with their receivers now. It wasn’t a thing back in the day when I played. Underthrown, back shoulder balls became prominent when the pass interference rules started making them a practical methodology. It used to be if the receiver had to come back to the ball, and the CB was there, it wasn’t pass interference if there was contact. Now, if the receiver has to come back to the ball, and there’s contact with the CB, you’re probably going to get a pass interference call. This is why the back shoulder throw and even underthrown balls on purpose have become much more prevalent.
Rodgers and Greg Jennings would kill teams with the back shoulder throw. Killed us several times. Wasn’t just Jennings either – they’d routinely do it with Jennings, James Jones, Jordy Nelson – way before it was as common as it is now.
True, Rodgers was always ahead of his time in making plays that others didn’t. He is a singular innovator, and sort of a genius when it comes to football acumen.
My dirty secret is that I am totally fine with Rodgers. I enjoy his arrogance because, honestly, he kind of has the right to be somewhat arrogant. He is (or at least was) elite in a league that only has 32 starting QBs each year. That kind of arm talent doesn’t grow on trees.
I kind of agree. I don’t mind his arrogance, but it’s his smugness and the blaming everyone else.
Respected him a lot more after covid.
I always said “even his family don’t like him”. Then I realized his family is probably bleeding heart liberals from California.
‘I enjoy his arrogance’
No Kink Shaming.
The annoying thing is with those throws they are easily deflected or intercepted if the defender is looking at all, but he knows they never turn around and his receivers would make easy catches or get PI calls.
Yes because the CB is in man, and has his back to the QB. This is just an instinctive look and throw. The CB is in good position, but can’t see the throw. The QB throws a good back shoulder throw, and the CB doesn’t even know it’s coming.
Donald Driver
When ever I hear Greg Jennings I think of this guy, the GOAT of Jeopardy.
Saw a breakdown this week of that play (don’t remember from who) where they said the throw to Nailor was the better option as there was a Robber bearing down over the middle where Jets was breaking – haven’t seen the All 22 film yet to confirm.
Either way it was a clutch throw and catch to get to victory formation
As long as he puts a mild amount of touch on the pass, it’s an easier completion than the one he makes IMO. But either way, it worked.
If there was a robber, he can only play one of the two routes over the middle.
The Ravens D has been outstanding the last 3 weeks….Our D is going to have to have a great game. I do not think it will be a shootout.
I’m thinking the same thing. The Ravens love to run the ball. They aren’t necessarily a big play offense, although they’ve had a few big plays. Harbaugh wants to wear the defense out. He wants to beat you up. Lamar has become a much better passer year after year though. He is hanging in the pocket longer and trying to make plays with his arm. This has improved the Ravens offense. Still, I think both teams will struggle to score more than 21 points.
I haven’t watched the Ravens this year, but they seem to be built and have the same philosophy as the Lions. They both like to use the run to set up the pass and have good defenses. I feel if we play the Ravens like we played the Lions, we have a very good chance of winning this game. I may be wrong, and usual I am, but I feel good about this game.
I do too. This is a very winnable game.
Once huge exception – when Lamar pulls the ball down and takes off. There is no one in. the league even remotely close to that. He has to be the best open field runner in the league.
Agreed. He is a truly viable threat, and defenses have to worry about that. Goff, not so much.
The two headed running monster of Lamar and Henry is what defenses have to actually defend first, which is why Lamar leads the league with a 136.7 passer rating.
I feel no pressure about this game and will watch with a sense of curiosity more than investment. I just want to see JJ get more playing time. Since he was adequate last week, I am okay if things don’t quite go that well this week. I just want to see him string some games together and build a body of work that is ultimately trending upward for a future run.
If they win, that’s a bonus.
That’s where I’m at. While I am refusing to watch the NFL anymore this year due to extreme rigging, it will be nice to see JJ developing and trending upward hopefully.
Since the day I was born the Vikings have struggled against running QB’s. I suspect we’ll give up some annoying long 3rd down runs to Lamar.
HOPEFULLY the D is ready to go when needed (TWSS)
Goooooose morning!
Two things:
SKOL!
🔨🔨🔨
I watched it. He seems to be a very likeable guy. Just got engaged to a lovely looking lady. Our defense is so much better with him and VG on the field.
I agree – he’s a big play waiting to happen. Brings an energy off the edge. Smart player too – probably the best I’ve seen at anticipating bubble screens and swings…..
Yay, I got the date correct!
Love the cash man, have since his days as a gopher, hopefully he can stay healthy for a while
Sounds familiar…
He was really really bad last night.
He was. He is very up and down this year. He was a lot better last year as a rookie. This year he is hot and cold in almost every game. I think he is still trying to be a football hero primarily, and has to settle into being an NFL QB. Payton is definitely giving him his head though. Letting him go through the throes of running an offense, and making really bad decisions at times. I think he’ll continue to take his lumps like all young QB’s. We’ll see if he ends up being really good, or not.
Very
While I like Nix I can’t stand Buttholemouth.
And any win for Nix is a win for the anusface to I can’t root for Nix.
Yup, I refuse to root for Denver as long as that asshole is their head coach, unless they play the Packers or Eagles
Same.
I DESPISE SEAN PAYTON.
Bountygate should’ve been a career-ender. He knew. He fucking knew and gave his endorsement.
Still refuse to listen to Jon Vilma on Vikes broadcasts. Fuck that guy. Fuck the Saints.
And Fuuuuuuck that weirdo Taysom Hill – WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS SMILING YOU PSYCHO?!?
Sorry I yelled.
I’m gonna go smoke a bowl and play fetch with Goose to calm down.
Sorry that my reference to the anusface triggered you.
Hope you are able to restore your calm.
All good……🪴+🔥= 🗿
Amen
Enjoy!
Happy belated, I added it to my calendar so I won’t forget.
Thanks JV…..
I gave you balloons yesterday. You will have to ask again next year.
I’m pretty sure when this gif was made, they had Sean Payton in mind.
I remember a time I would post this following every comment Lifer made.. That was funny
I don’t remember that…… likely wasn’t around then. But it sounds hilarious
Yup he would go off on one of his hair-brain talking points and then we’d be like “this Lifer rn” lol
But but but……. He’s certified.
Close he is ‘certifiable’.
Certified balloon inflator with all the illiterates down at the plant
He kinda blew up at me when I said he was let go at the air compressor factory, and it was in the sarcasm font.
Yeah he takes his compressor repair jobs seriously
hahaha
I miss lifer
Me too.
He’s still doing well, I talked to him via email or text not too long ago.
I don’t, much too emotionally and mentally unstable.
lol
Agreed. Unhinged.
He’s like 5, take with a grain of salt and just laugh
He was like a teenaged girl. He would post woke/liberal trash in order to get people to respond and once they did he would scream for an Admin to delete their response due to politics. It worked depressingly often.
I stopped posting once Brad made him an Admin and didn’t start up again until after his final meltdown/departure.
Yep, when he was an admin, he had my comments set to require admin approval.
Seriously?
Yep, I almost gave up on the site, because I would post something and it wouldn’t show up until later in the day and I would get a notification saying comment must be approved, or something to that affect.
I think that was a glitch that the devs figured out, some setting or something. In the early days, we messed around under the hood a little bit to try to get things to work, and we occasionally screwed things up.
Recall Lifer “kiddingly” telling people if they disagreed with him, he would delete their stuff, but he didn’t. It was a joke.
And as admins go, when he was one, there was a new page at about 630 am every day – he didn’t miss any.
I had several post deleted by Admins when he reacted and demanded that it was political and violated the site’s policy.
Since I didn’t post while he was an admin he couldn’t delete any of mine.
The next time he shows up here will be too soon.
Hope he does – that would be fun
He and I are about as far apart politically and perhaps a few other things, as imaginable and we argued pretty hard back and forth, but he didn’t delete anything of mine.
In fact, my first posts here were on a weekend arguing with him over gun control.
And my last posts with him were to tell him to “chill” after he was so upset with us losing to the Eagles with four fumbles.
At this point doesn’t really matter as he is no longer a poster here.
That could be, but I gave him a little crap during a game, wasn’t having issues before, and the next couple of days I was getting the delay and the warning.
Yep
I do too. Little wacky, caring guy, and pretty funny. Used to say things just to drive people crazy
Having him and fivefingers together on the same thread is hilarious.
‘say things just to drive people crazy’
He didn’t want to be alone.
Well he was a Democrat.
Yep, and then you throw it back at him and he goes off on a tangent, like a five year old.
it was a fun time back then I will admit
The Texas Stock Exchange (TXSE), based in Dallas, has received approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to operate as a national exchange—positioning it to compete with the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq. Backed by more than $160 million from major investment firms like BlackRock and Citadel Securities, TXSE plans to begin listing stocks by late 2026.
This could be the off ramp for the NYSE, as money runs away from Mamdani’s New York. It could be the beginning of the end for New York.
It will be widely acknowledged as a shit hole within 5 years….
I totally agree with this. All the money is fleeing NYC as we speak.
It is already ‘widely acknowledged as a shit hole’.
Good point.
BlackRock is evil as hell
New York may look like Detroit in a couple of years. Once the auto industry left Detroit so did everything else. About 4 out of 5 houses in Detroit are abandoned.
GOOD.
GF. Like you loved running in the snow. Especially liked when there was about two inches in the ground – felt like running in a cloud.
Flakes hitting your face keeping you cool, great feeling.
Miss it a lot.
Yep, running during a light snowfall is as peaceful as it gets.
Predator: Badlands is a generally entertaining space adventure, but it is not really a Predator film. It is a kid’s film wearing a Predator skin…
You really do need help…..
Sex organs in its ears? It would literally be possible to screw its brains out.
You’re just noticing.
Former NFL star Antonio Brown was arrested on an attempted murder charge stemming from a shooting after a celebrity boxing event in Miami, police confirmed Thursday.
Miami police spokesperson Mike Vega said Brown, 37, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. He was flown to Essex County, New Jersey, where he is being held pending extradition to Miami, Vega said.
It was unclear why Brown was taken to New Jersey first or how long he had been in Dubai, although he has posted several times on social media over the past few months from there.
According to an arrest warrant detailing the May 16 shooting, Brown is accused of grabbing a handgun from a security staffer after the boxing match and firing two shots at a man he had been in a fistfight with earlier. The man, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told investigators one of the bullets grazed his neck.
If you’re going to shoot at someone, at least hit your target
Ready, fire, aim…
Watched the first half of the game and fell asleep. Woke up as the game was ending. Looks like it was a flag fest with both teams penalized 11 times. That’s a lot of penalties.
That doesn’t even count ones that aren’t accepted, of which there are usually a few.
Or offsetting.
Apparently, Samuel Jr’s visit is strictly a medical check to see if he is capable of playing football, after a questionable new surgery where his spine was fused.
