Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts

It was great to watch football again last night, even though the Lions B Squad made Trey Lance look good. Also, I really thought Collinsworth was less annoying than normal. Maybe just because I miss football that much?

Vikings signed two new depth players this week. No major injuries. Rumblings over the Defense being ahead of the offense, and we hear that every season this time of year. In 8 days we get to watch a practice game.

I guess as we move into the last week before our first practice game, the biggest question I have is how many reps will McCarthy get? To me, he needs all the reps he can get. To KOC, I guess he has to weigh potential injury, to needed experience.

Good morning and SKOL! It’s Saturday, and it’s gonna be another hot one in Tampa. My wife made me some french toast and turkey sausage for breakfast, with some orange juice, and of course coffee.

One week away from Vikings football!

Yeah, but as Allen Iverson said, “we talkin bout practice”. McCarthy is learning what not to do. There are many, many things he has to learn in this regard. Knowing what not to do, prevents a QB from making boneheaded mistakes. Every QB in the league goes through it. More so young QB’s of course, but they all have days where their learning curve is expanded.

In his first 5 seasons (2019 – 2023), Terry McLaurin caught passes from 12 QB’s. Now that he has Jayden McDaniel (lucky number 13?), he wants a trade due to contract issues. I think the Redskins need to keep him, and make him a happy camper.

Think Washington is on a bit of a “after Snyder” high and love the new ownership and GM. And if the new GM thinks he wants to much and trades him, fans will give the nod to management. I don’t know what he’s asking for, so have no idea what will really happen.
Whatever, for the first time in years they have “adults” running the organization.

I don’t know exactly what he wants, as numbers have never been detailed. I think he wants around $30M a year though. In March, the Bengals made Ja’Marr Chase the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history, giving him a four-year, $161 million contract with $112 million guaranteed. That’s over $40M a year.

I think they’ll be OK, because Campbell made the new OC adjust to the existing offense, vice the whole offense being forced to adjust to the OC. Make one guy change vice 25. I think that’s smart. There will be tweaks for sure but the whole offense remains virtually unchanged. I think that’s brilliant.

I don’t know… last year our offense ended up 9th in points scored, and the defense was 5th in points allowed. That’s pretty strong. I don’t know if it is strong enough for #1, but it’s pretty damn good.

Good point. Interestingly enough, the Chiefs offense was 16th in the league in points scored. Their worst position since Mahomes became the starter. Their defense though finished 4th in the league in points allowed, and they won 15 games.

Thus, our earlier conversation. The Chiefs are short on quality Wr’s and despite the best QB in football, Reid went more to running the ball and playing defense.
While I think Sean McVay is an offensive genius, Reid ain’t too far behind.

Understanding the team is a dumpster fire and has underperformed this year…
and rebuilding needs to happen…

but i can’t imagine a rebuild that happens without a bullpen. not only without a bullpen, but a bullpen of young GOOD arms, top 8 in the majors EASILY maybe top 5.

so when starting a rebuild, what do you need? Good, Young, Cheap players? huh…

come at me, Kfey, while i agree some of those players needed to go (Correa, Ty France etc) Getting what they got for who they traded out of their bullpen was BAD.

Haven’t followed baseball much for years – think I went into hibernation after my Cubs ‘finally’ won a World Series.
But baseball has always been about good pitching. You need solid starters and a bullpen. Even if you are sort of starting over per se , do not understand why you would get rid of good, young strong arms. So, you could immediately turn around and then replace them?

KFEY93

Two of the 9 moves were bad, agreed. I will come at you for saying their BP was top 5-8 in the majors. They were 23rd in the majors in ERA, which is the only stat that counts for me, giving up runs. Thats bad. They had 3-4 REALLY good pieces that were getting over used and the rest were REALLY bad. So, disagree there.

freezeyface
Reply to  KFEY93

i will argue with you on their bullpen.

i don’t think a team has trade offers for THEIR ENTIRE BULLPEN if they suck…. in fact, i would think that means they are actually VERY good. teams trading to BOLSTER their bullpen for twins pitching means they are good.

that being said.

my kids were very sad to see their favorite pitchers trades (Duran, Jax, north st paul boy Varland)

KFEY93
Reply to  freezeyface
1 August 2025 10:52 am

Agree to disagree. The numbers are numbers and cant be argued. 23rd ranked BP in the majors. They had good pieces, and awful pieces. You cant get top 10 prospects from other organizations for the awful pieces, so you have to move the good ones. The Twins could have kept all of their BP, the team still would not be relevant the next 2 seasons at least if management, coaching and FO stay the same. Could they have held on to a piece or two, especially the team control, yes. But they finally picked a lane and cleaned house which im a fan of. Stop being mid. Commit to an actual rebuild.

NOW, that being said, if they do all of this and DONT sell the team and or dont get rid of Rocco and the coaching staff and GM…then this will all be for not and they might as well move the team to Louisiana or something.

What was the random stat I saw yesterday? No team that has ever lost the Hall of Fame game has gone on the make the play offs. …I will say. I think Detroits starting roster is stacked (WR is good not great) but if Goff goes down, or they have injury bug even half of last years they are cooked.

I fell asleep, but glad the Chargers won. Jim Harbaugh ran the ball 35 times, and only threw it 23 times. Hmmmm sounds like Ravens ball. The Harbaughs know that running the football is a great way to control the game, wear the defense out, and win. Herbert is going to benefit greatly from an offense that throws the ball when it wants to, not when it has to.

Oldest adage in football A great defense and good running game wins Championships. Ravens haven’t won a Championship in a while, but every year they are contending it seems. The Chargers went from a 5-12 team to an 11-6 team with Jim Harbaugh coming in as their head coach. Wouldn’t doubt he keeps them playing well again this year. If they work a deal with the Redskins for McLaurin Herbert is gonna be doing backflips.
