Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
This will be brief, I’ve been putting our house back together all day and I’m whipped. I’m heading to Fargo tomorrow for a high school graduation for a buddy’s daughter. Thankfully, I won’t have to be in Fargo long, only a couple/few hours. Hey, and an early happy father’s day to all of you dads out there, keep fighting the good fight.
Vikings News
The Vikings released safety Bubba Bolden yesterday, according to the Sporting News.
NFL News
MSN has the latest update on Anthony Richardson’s shoulder injury & recovery.
Cam Akers has signed with the *aints, per ESPN. Too bad he couldn’t find a better team.
Dak Prescott wants to win a championship, per Fox Sports. Well, duh. It would be news if you found an NFL QB who doesn’t want to win a championship.
Media Selection
I dunno, figured I’d find something Vikings related, this was the first thing I found.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass used Father’s Day not to honor the importance of fatherhood or the role of strong families, but to push a political message about illegal immigration. Instead of acknowledging the responsibility that comes with breaking U.S. law, Bass focused her message on sympathy for children whose fathers were deported for being in the country illegally. Her statement ignored the legal consequences of entering or remaining in the U.S. unlawfully and painted deportation as an unjust act rather than a necessary part of enforcing immigration law.
This is really the fundamental difference between the Dem’s and the rest of the American population. We see illegal migration as a violation of law. They see it as some sort of “right” and demand we foster and facilitate the illegal activity.
The Dems don’t want anyone deported. As we discussed the other day, this is all about votes, future votes. All the crocodile tears is pure BS. If they believed these people were going to vote Republican they’d throw them out in a heartbeat.
That is absolutely the case.
100%
She is a disgrace. Did people just forget that she let her city burn.
Apparently. It boggles the mind how somehow, there are people out there who support these clowns and vote for them.
Well they have a few dozen permits for rebuilding houses burnt down approved now.
Has to be a well run city to accomplish that in just a few months.
Holy cow! Louisville pulled out a victory, scoring 6 runs in the 8th. So happy for the kids.
Amazing!
OK. Tranny upset that John3:16 is on a fast food cup.
Incredible idiocy from these people.
That commentary is how SO many Americans feel right now.
Odd how so many “gender fluid” people have mostly trans kids. Child abuse.
@libsoftiktok
Dad says toddlers can know if they’re transgender and his daughter knew she was trans at 2 and a half years old
Loony tunes…
Seems we had a better society when there was more of a deference to God and his teachings.
Absolutely. People need purpose and meaning in life, and a moral authority, otherwise it’s me, me, me, and anything goes.
Happy Father’s Day and much respect to all the terrific Dad’s here. Our country desperately needs more men like you.
Thank you Kathy.
Still we wouldn’t be Dads without fine women.
You’re welcome. Thinking great Dad’s are probably good at picking good women. Might be a little more difficult in these days of purple haired lefty loony girls.
I’d bet a large reason for them is that a father figure is not present in their lives. Just my random take.
100%. The statistics for fatherless homes are awful!
Hey Kathy, hope all is well with you. Thank you for the well wishes. Watching the U.S. Open, but it’s pouring rain there in Pittsburgh and the greens are flooded, so they’ve stopped play.
Have to parrot what JR said. We wouldn’t be Dads without fine women.
Watching UofL baseball, but not confident in a win.
Things here have still been kind of crazy town, but seem to be settling down a bit, thank goodness.
Thank you Kathy.
Hope all is well in your world.
You’re welcome, and praise for great Dad’s here is well deserved.
Really looking forward to watching JJ McCarthy this year.
Can a defense be ‘Unstoppable’?
It is the defenses job to stop the offense.
So it is unstoppable at stopping the offense??
Journalism is dead, has been for awhile it seems.
https://thevikingage.com/new-prediction-would-elevate-minnesota-vikings-defense-from-great-unstoppable
Most all of us could live with great. Many think the 85 Bears was a great defense. Don’t need more than that.
Yes, the people who write for some of these sites …..?
Bears 85 D were ‘All Time Greats’.
We might not get to that level but it is a worthy goal.
Excellent or great will suffice with our O to break the curse.
#nojinx
Got a text from a buddy inviting me to play golf at Plantation Palms in Land O Lakes Florida tomorrow morning. Says he’ll buy me lunch if I break 90. Playing from the Whites.
My monies on you NLNV, what is the slope, distance from whites?
It plays about 6,000 yards from the Whites. Not sure about slope. I’ve never seen/played the course. First hole is a 490 yard par 5. No idea what kind of water/hazards are in play, but he said the greens have a lot of movement, and are hard to putt. Got a feeling my wedges are gonna get a workout. I will play my game. Lay up to avoid trouble, and wedge it onto the green.
Laughing… nice call Bow.
Sorry, I saw that one and thought of you and been saving it for a good opportunity cuz I knew you’d at least giggle a little.
It really made me laugh when I read it. Perfect!
I’ll be the first to wish a happy Father’s Day to all of you dads out there. We have the best job in the world, TBH.
I’m smoking a brisket today. It’s 4 pounds, I’m gonna need some massive rolling papers.
I also think that I may be fairly busy right now, I think I’ve posted the wrong day at least once a week over the past month or two. You know you’re either busy or senile (likely both) when you frequently don’t know what day it is.
Thank you GF and happy father’s day to you too! It’s OK being a little forgetful… happens to the best of us.
Joyfull Dad’s Day to those who did or are doing that job.
That’s actually pretty impressive.
How’d SoCa get a tape of me and my daughter from 25 years ago?
Laughing…
It brought back fond memories for me, thought Real Dads would appreciate it as well.
Glad I was right, once more today. #brokenclock
Looks like they have have had lots of practice.
I remember doing something similar to my overactive nephew. He would run back saying ‘again-again’ until my arms were too tired. Good times.
My wife’s nephew was a college cheerleader. He does the same with his little girl. It is very impressive. They have been doing it for a while, and she does all kinds of aerial tricks. I believe she is 5 years old, now.
She will probably grow up into a cheerleader herself, or maybe a gymnast. Glad that they have something like that they can share/do together.
Happy Father’s Day to you as well and the other dads out there. I’m smoking 10 lbs of taco with cheddar snack sticks then grilling a ribeye. Might try to squeeze some fishing in there too.
Adam Scott from Australia is almost 45 years old and one shot out of the lead at the U.S. Open. He won the Masters in a playoff against Angel Cabrera in 2013, for his only win in a Major. 12 years is a bit of gap in wins, especially since he’s playing in his 96th consecutive Major, after turning pro in 2000. He’s been playing professionally for 26 years.
Scott made birdie on the 17th hole from just over 14 feet to put him in a tie for the lead at the time, and the crowd went wild. I think it might have surprised him a little, to see such huge support. He’s always been a fan favorite though.
I hope he can get it over the finish line tomorrow.
I read ‘golf-mumble-something-mumble-golf’.
Would be great if Scott can pull it off. Fairways and greens hit will be huge today.
He said he played “old man par golf” the first three rounds, which clearly was a perfect strategy. He made some great shots along the way, but just tried to not make any big mistakes. With all the rain overnight though, he expects some folks to shoot a low round today. He may have to play more assertively based on what is going on when he tees off.
The guy winning seems to be getting by with his scrambling. Don’t think that will hold up. Spaun is playing really solid golf and probably the best of the bunch.
Yeah, Burns has made some great up and downs for par’s so far. Sooner or later, you’d think his luck will run out. Spaun has looked extremely solid. Best he’s ever played in my opinion. He’s looked calm and collected too. Should be a good watch today.
GO ARMY !!!!!!
Go US Military.
Marines celebrate their Corps’ birthday every year.
It has not been ‘a thing’ much for the Army before today.
Maybe a Dining In but not a parade or big event.
Jack Brewer, S, Minn Vikings, Minn Golden Gopher, rips Tampon Tim after his appointee shot and killed Minn State Lawmakers today.
https://www.foxnews.com/sports/former-vikings-player-blames-tim-walz-minnesota-lawmaker-killings-example-weak-emasculated-leader
NLNVF, remember discussing you wanted a tough course for the US Open.
I said the players wouldn’t like it, and here is a story about pro golfers complaining about it being too tough.
The days are gone where the PGA allows a course where the winner is over par.
https://www.foxnews.com/sports/us-opens-unforgiving-oakmont-conditions-prompts-expletive-laden-outburst-from-shane-lowry-after-missed-putt
Yes. The players are spoiled by courses set up beautifully, and manicured to perfection. They are given many birdie opportunities, and bogey is a rare occurrence no matter where they hit it.
I love U.S. Open courses, where making par on a hole is an accomplishment.
Yep.
Nickalas just said that.
He did? Cool. Jack is just a complete class act. Great champion.
Well, he said the US Open should be where making a par is a good score, not the spoiled part.
😆🤣
Ahhhh soooo
And Lowry is a known big mouth. Believe at the Ryder Cup he almost got into a fight with another players caddie.
And as an aside, through most of golf history “par” was considered and suppose to be a good score.
I remember almost all majors where the winner was lucky to be even par. Players and equipment have improved dramatically the last decade.
Think Oakmont does the rough a little too hard. Those finger things in the sand traps? WT..? Rather watch Masters anytime.
And yet, there have been guys get it around in 4 and 5 under par in a round. It’s demanding, not impossible.
Oakmont is bland. Hard to relace Augusta in the spring. replace.
It is so sad that I go to the Rec Center/Gym, come back, and this thread has dissolved into a Golf Discussion.
Ewwww.
That will change in 5 weeks.
Once training camp starts, there will be football things to complain about daily.
I did get a very good nap in today. Started watching golf, within 5 minutes I was out.
‘Started watching golf, within 5 minutes I was out’
I guess golf is good for something after all. #grin
You’ll live…
Yes I will.
I am tougher than golf.
Laughing… so hard
We all should have been to the Mall and seen the festivities.
I kid a lot about the Army, but there are a hell of a lot of great soldiers and it’s the best Army in the world.
It is big.
That means that there is a lot of room for both the good and the bad.
In total more good than bad IMHO, much more.
Democratic Lawmakers shot in Minn.
No doubt it will be Trumps fault.
https://www.foxnews.com/us/minnesota-lawmakers-spouses-shot-separate-home-attacks
Didn’t see this. The political violence we’re seeing is a result of extreme rhetoric of the politicians though. Calling our President Hitler, and referring to law enforcement as the Gestapo, taking the side of violent extremists instead of victims, etc, fans the flames of fury among the populace. We live in times where the media and politicians are screaming for people to fight. So people are out in the streets fighting and killing each other.
Both shot lawmakers were members of the Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL). Have no idea what they advocate for.
Was the shooter a farmer they ‘did wrong’? Was he upset that they didn’t go far enough? In-fighting?
Obviously he (allegedly) is unhinged and I hope they catch him soon and give him what he deserves. And prayers for the victims and their families.
Yeah SoCal, I don’t know who the shooter is, or what his motivations are. Heard he had a manifesto, so this isn’t some random thing. It was planned and carried out with some deliberate thought.
Prayers to all involved and affected. Catch this guy, and make him pay with his life.
You are correct her NLV.
We live in strange times. Politicians have become little more than mouth pieces for their party – not to mention many are just plain fools.
But I also think “people” are responsible for their own behavior. If some idiot says something or tells me to do something, I DO NOT have to act on that. And it’s a flimsy ass excuse to say well some politician suggested I do it.
When the media and political leaders constantly work to enrage the populace, eventually someone will act. The problem is, you reap what you sow, and eventually the sword comes down on your own head.
You are of course correct here about politicians and the media.
I’m just going a step further and not excusing people for their behavior.
Oh, you’re right for sure JR. People must be held accountable for their choices and their actions. When you are told you are courageous, and noble for killing political opponents though, that eventually resonates with someone. Someone who is inherently fine with harming others.
Bad people, inspired to kill people is a recipe for this kind of tragic outcome.
“Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.” ― Voltaire
That is a great quote.
Seems even more applicable than ever lately.
It is because people have less common sense now and therefore easier to make believe.
agreed, and both sides are guilty
I’m getting sick of the “both sides are guilty” crap. The left are emotionally charged activists who openly advocate for violence. The right do not do this. Stop intoning they do.The politicians on the right did not call for violence when Obama and Biden were in office. We didn’t shoot people at a baseball practice from the opposite party. Violence is the tool of the left.
There are individuals on each side that do such thing.
The ‘woke’ have weaponized the talk and openly advocated for violence with their rhetoric. They of course will back off if questioned but they know what they are doing, firing up their base.
You are correct, the two sides are not the same.
Both sides ARE guilty! Let’s not forget that potus has called the democratic party, “the enemy of the people”. Yes, some of the left went to far with the nazi crap, but those were targeted insults towards one person, not a whole political party.
He did not call the ‘democratic party, “the enemy of the people”.He said that there are people who are the ‘enemy within’ who are working against the American people. And he was/is correct.
It is not as if he was calling for everyone who supported ‘the other side’ to be sent to ‘reeducation camps’ or ‘garbage’ or ‘deployables’ or dozens of similar examples.
All people should study history. The Nazis murdered over 6 million Jews. No one ever should be compared to that group. And any politician in elected office who does so, should be removed from position – it is a slap in the face to the Jewish people to make such a comparison.
I was stationed in Germany 2x for a total of 6 years, 3 years in Berlin. Not much worse than Nazis, maybe Stalin or Pol Pot are close.
It is funny how the Democratic talking point that was repeated by 100s of that party and their lapdogs in the Media, 1,000s of time has suddenly become ‘some of the left’. Revisionist much?
So calling republicans nazis, deplorables, and garbage, isn’t considered insults at the entire political party? Please spare us your righteous indignation.
Sort of funny. Guy picket the wrong bar, at the wrong time to bring stuff like that on.
None of the GOP representatives have called for their constituents to DOX people, confront them in restaurants, and in general abuse them at every turn. The left is all about violent protests that are out of control. They want the police to do anything that violates their “civil rights” so they can sue them in court and make six figures off their lawsuits. That is the domain of the left. Angry, vitriolic rhetoric, calling on people to fight against their political foes and make as big a show of it they can.
Which politicians triggered them to shoot democrats?
The Democrats that they shot???
Sounds like he hated both parties and they just stopped him after two Dems before he could keep going as planned.
That is what is being reported currently.
Maybe it being Minn that Dem lawmakers were closer.
Right, given time he was going to get to the republicans.
Huh. Wonder if these were center leaning Dems?
Aaannnddd, there it is
“The More You Know’ of the rest of the story.
Surprise, surprise, surprise.
Already heard one idiot democrat say it’s the republicans fault for stopping all gun control.
But even Tampon Tim is a hunter (allegedly).
Well I guess things have changed. I haven’t hunted in a while but when I did you had to know how to get the safety off.
I hear you have to know how to put the ammo in it as well.
Shocking I know.
So it’s republicans fault for creating a bad law. You know that will be the story.
Thanks. So, he is just crazy and happened to kill Dems first.
I grew up in Brooklyn Park, the city where the former speaker lived.
Crazy
Keep spewing extreme messages! It’s working so well. (Snark)
I am ‘spewing extreme messages’??
Yes. Because you aren’t blaming republicans. That’s how this works.
There will be enough doing that, they don’t need my help.
I’m so sorry for posting as a reply to you. I meant it as an original post not specific to anyone on here. I’m an idiot…
That was my original thought, just checking to make sure I wasn’t crossing the line.
I try to moderate myself but we all have a blind spot when trying to see ourselves.
We are all idiots, welcome to the club. #grin
Actually if you meant it as like…… leaders should stop spewing extreme messages……. that’s a pretty solid take, at least by me.
That’s EXACTLY what I am saying. Everybody (politicians) settle down and be real leaders.
Under Zimmer, the Cowboys allowed the 5th most yards per game, and the 2nd most points per game last year. The man who famously said “I’ve never had a bad defense” has fallen from grace. Right after he said that, his defenses failed completely.
Flores has installed an agressive, attacking scheme, that brings pressure from all directions. I’m interested in seeing what this defense can do under Flores, now entering its third season. Great consistency with our OC and DC will make us formidable this year in my opinion.
Don’t know if the Cowgirls quit on him or he made changes that they struggled to adapt to? I always thought that he was a very good DC that got promoted past his ability, The Peter Principle.
“The Peter Principle states that an employee continues to receive promotions to work in higher ranks up to that point where he reaches a level of incompetence. In simple terms, the higher the hierarchy ladder an individual goes, the more likely he is to fail in his new position.”
The Peter principle is prevalent in the NFL. Every year we see coaches with great histories fail as a head coach. Head coaches need multiple skill sets, beyond just playing football. They’re great in their main area of expertise, but there is just so much more to being a head coach than X’s and O’s. Selecting and sustaining a great staff is just one of those talents that is a key element to success. Gotta have a group of coaches on both sides of the ball who can get the job done. Great leadership skills, management skills, and even intuition come into play. Guys like Lombardi don’t grow on trees.
I feel that Zims ‘Crusty Old Man’ personality make it difficult to relate to a large, diverse group aka a team/organization.
Some people can accept it, some can adjust to it, some it just grates on and it grows old after a period of time.
Seems like the longer Zim was around the more people he alienated.
Yeah, I don’t have a clue about his interactions or personality when it comes to the players. When he was fired by the Vikings, he never addressed the team. He just left. That seemed very odd to me.
There were lots of stories, rumors and reports of players at the time airing their issues about Zim and his leadership style. Team Captains that said he would never talk to them and such stuff.
The Parcells types just don’t cut in todays NFL, very different type of players.
Well, you have guys like the Harbaughs who are no nonsense coaches who still commend their locker rooms. There is a way to be strong and demand discipline, and still “reach” your players. It’s a talent for sure though. Commanding alpha athletes and bending them to your will takes a very special blend of presence, and strength of character.
Agree. But Harbaugh is very good with QB’s and Zimmer treated them like dogshit.
But also back to Harbaugh, as I remember after a few years his style wore thin with players and management in SF.
I think Zimmer’s scheme sucks now because it has been figured out.
That said, his defense did lose some major pieces to injury last year.
Yes. Was a good DC with some new schemes that worked well, Then the league caught up to him and he didn’t seem to have adjustment schemes.
This is a bigger deal than people understand, I think. Tom Brady had 3 OC’s in his 20 years with the Patriots, and the same OC for his last 8 seasons there. The offense was so mature, so well practiced, and so consistent, they could could throw several “new” plays in every week to attack specific parts of the opposing defense and just practice those specific plays. Everyone knew the rest of the offense, and didn’t have to practice it during the season. This made the offense very difficult to prepare for. Brady had complete mastery, and so did the whole rest of the offense.
The Vikings now have a very similar circumstance. Most of the starters on the offense are completely immersed, and experienced in running it. McCarthy has a year under his belt just taking it all in. He can begin his career in a very well designed offense, that has gone through all the normal growing pains. KOC and Phillips are in synch, and calling a game together is now second nature.
Drunk.
Hey, having a guy around that likes a good snoot once in a while isn’t bad.
Enjoying ‘a good snoot once in a while’ does not equal DUIs.
Even good people have lapses of judgement sometimes. Don’t know this guy and really can’t speak to him directly, but do know a fair amount of good folks that have acted poorly.
Oh I was the ‘designated designated driver’ for multiple times in the military. I watched hours of co-workers ‘drinking themselves stupid’.
I might have still liked them after the fact, been able to work with them, but didn’t trust them as much after watching them do that to themselves.
Plus of course I grew up with an alcoholic and watching him destroy our family.
You know why the Lord created alcohol……….. so the Irish wouldn’t control the world.
Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
Yeah I smell beer on someone and it reminds me of my dad saying such positive things as ‘I can’t wait for you freeloaders to get out of my house’ when i was in High School.
Feel bad for your sad memory.
But I admit I do love a good cold beer, especially down here in the Florida heat.
I have never had a problem with people enjoying alcohol.
I will always have a problem with people abusing themselves with alcohol, and others around them due to it.
I understand that my perspective is unique and informed by my upbringing.
Actually think you perspective is solid. I don’t like people who abuse others at all, whether alcohol is involved or not.
The Teacher has an occasional wine cooler or wine during a dinner out,
Alcohol lowers inhibitions and makes it easier to say and do things that they normally wouldn’t.
I have seen drunks in the barracks pee on other soldiers sleeping at the time. Causes major issues in the unit, alcohol is often just used as an excuse.
Alcohol does do that. If you can’t handle it, don’t touch it. Drink soda.
‘If you can’t handle it, don’t touch it’.
That is not an actual ‘thing’ in todays society.
Alcohol.
And guns.
