Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
As I write this, it’s almost halftime of the Thursday Night Football Rams-Seahawks matchup with the Rams up 13-7. The Rams offense is rolling over the Seahawks defense while the Seahawks offense spits and sputters. The Seahawks did manage to get a fourth down stop or this wouldn’t be as close as it is. The Rams are dominating the time of possession battle up to this point. If things don’t change, this one is gonna be a blowout.
Edit: Wow, that game was absolutely CRAZY! Seahawks win by one in overtime. Holy crap. I’m going to bed now.
Vikings and NFL News
Highlights and stats from last night’s Rams-Seahawks Thursday Night Football game from CBS Sports.
Puka Nacua apologized for an “anti-semetic” dance he did on social media, per CBS Sports. Good grief, we worry about stupid crap. How the hell can a dance be racist?
From ESPN, Nacua had no idea that the dance was racist. I’m guessing 99.9999999% of the country also had no idea that it was racist. I think it’s stupid that he has to apologize.
The Jaguars signed Jakobi Meyers to a 3-year extension worth $60 million, per NFL.com. His fortunes sure have changed since the beginning of the season. He went from a garbage offense on a garbage team to a $60 million extension on a playoff team.
NFL.com has an NFL news roundup, Josh Jacobs is questionable to play against the Bears with a knee/ankle injury. A knee/ankle injury? Not the tibia/fibia? Wouldn’t that be 2 seperate injuries? There’s a pretty big gap between the knee and ankle. I dunno, maybe I’m crazy.
The NFLPA is probably the biggest joke of a union in the entire country. The NFLPA is being sued by one of their own lawyers, per ESPN. What a s*** fest they have going on over there, I’m certain they’re indirectly being run by the NFL.

News on tomorrow’s roster…
In case you are wondering where everyone is, they are all on the new thread.
Come join on the weekend.
We won’t give you a hard time, probably.
3rd and goal from the 5 with 28 seconds left, down 10-3. A&M throws an interception to lose the game!
The wife is unhappy…
Reed is a terrible passer.
Nutty game. Four missed field goals. Miami up 3-0.
0-0 at half??
crazy
Go canes !!
Miami misses two field goals, and it’s 0-0 at the half. The wind is wicked today.
3rd and 8… come on defense!
Fake punt, that was terrible.
Reed needs to make some better throws IMO…
well 2 minutes left in the half… 0-0. A&M needs to score here. Come on Aggies!
Late. again.
Almost a home run punt return by Miami.
Tripped up at the 25.
Blocked FG.
A&M is dominating offensively but making fumble/kicking mistakes.
A&M hiking the ball quickly before replay can nullify that long pass.
He didn’t signal a fair catch on that punt?
Bold move.
Defensive/quiet 1st Qtr. 0-0.
A&M back down on the Miami side of the field… and FUMBLES… crap.
It was close to an incomplete pass but I think the challenge got it right.
Kind of early to be going for 4th and 6.
Nothing burger.
5 yard penalty and then punt.
4th and 6? Going for it?
The A&M QB Reed doesn’t impress me. He throws way too many bad passes.
Finished up with the morning chores and errands. Got the food. Here we go!
Kickoff time is here.
JJ (WR) is at least saying all the right things. I hope he actually means them.
We don’t need more WR Divas.
https://thevikingage.com/minnesota-vikings-justin-jefferson-gets-real-season-wants-forget
I just consider it ‘Bonus Coverage’ as the weekends are usually pretty quiet around here until game time.
We need a new thread. The Packers play today and we need plenty of room to trash them.
NLNVF is the wife gearing up for A&M vs Miami in 90m?
Figure it to be the only decent game on today.
Oregon and Ole Miss will walk over their small school opponents, I can hope for upsets but I doubt that either will happen.
She’s getting her nails done at the moment… gearing up for her Christmas look. That said, yes, Texas A&M game is front and center today at noon. Gonna get some Mission BBQ (Brisket, pulled pork, and smoked chicken) to feast on during the game.
Sounds like a pretty good spread, fax me some. #grin
And tomorrow A&M plays Kentucky for the NCAA Women Volleyball Championship. Is she going to be ‘into that’???
Yep. She is an Aggie through and through. Loves sports too.
laughed at this…
Beautiful day down here in Tampa. Blue skies and 56 degrees at the moment. High of 77 expected today. Merry Christmas.
Show off
What did your mother always tell you??? Oh yeah… make good choices. Grin.
PA is not a bad place to be retired. True not as good as FL, but retirement income is not taxed, real estate taxes are “ok”, but cost of living is fairly low. For example, homeowners insurance for an $850k housr is $2000/yr. Take that Florida!
We just gotta stay away from Philly.
I feel the same way about Idaho.
Pros and Cons compared to Florida, cheaper, no hurricanes, no NY transplants. After growing up in SoCal I can handle experiencing ‘seasons’ as long as they are NoDak extremes.
We might go down to the beach this afternoon and watch the sunset over the Gulf of America with some adult beverages and good food. Depends on her mood after the A&M game… grin.
Ugh. I pay 6k property tax on a home worth 550k.
And I used to give State Farm that much each year for shit coverage. I finally changed insurance and that got cut in half at least.
Still a very stupid place to live. Unless you want to commit welfare fraud, then this is the best place ever.
About the same here. Going to be a good afternoon for golf.
Merry Christmas to you and all here. Love this time of year.
Got an 8:20 tee time tomorrow. I like playing for a few hours, coming home, eating lunch, then watching football.
Went to the base commissary yesterday. Pulled up to the front gate to show ID and it was raining, cold and windy. Asked the SP if it was cold enough for him, he replied that they wind made it pretty chilly. I smiled and said ‘it could be worse, you could be in Minot.’ He chuckled and said ‘I have been colder I was stationed in Greenland’.
See you NoDaks it can alway be worse/colder.
I’m sure you’ve pulled gate guard duty. I always volunteered to pull a shift on the Holidays. Always let those folks know I appreciate them.
Not front gate.
Special Security Zone Gates, those were pretty lonely/quiet gates.
Thank you for your service SoCal.
And you yours.
At least I never had to serve in Greenland. #grin
Oklahoma -Bama 17 all at the half.
Bama wins 34-24.
Trump is killin it!
Laughing
Well would you look at that.
FYI, Biden won Georgia by less than 12,000 votes.
“won”, yes
Dem’s do not want the election process changes Trump is trying to invoke because they would lose elections big time. Much of their political power has been garnered fraudulently.
How about congress gets off its butt, and passes a federal voter id law
Well the Dem’s in Congress will never allow that.
Shocked, not shocked.
So 9 Billion now in Medicaid fraud in Minnesota. Them Dems sure know how to run a state……
As long as you are
buying votesbeing a crookhelping people out, you can live with a little fraud.I am mildly surprised Walz hasn’t resigned.
He’s getting some of the money – no one is this stupid.
Why would he??
He paid the ‘machine’ and got paid himself.
There is always more money to be had.
Eisenhauer once warned of the Industrial Military Complex. Now there is also the Poverty Industrial Complex. Billions and billions flows into this with little to no accountability and no one is quite sure where the money ends up. But, a large sum of this ends up political PACs that back certain candidates.
Heard a guy say the other day, don’t feel bad about Minnesota, California is 1000 times worse.
Poverty Industrial Complex.
I learned something today….and that is a pretty accurate description of what is going on.
They are running exactly the way the want to run it.
Money and Bitches!.
Final injury report…
Without CD we need Potato IMHO.
Not a surprise…
Logical move.
Yeah… he needs a good long rest and recuperation period.
Pussy.
*pansy
Donald Trump, wasting our tax money by giving out more holidays to federal workers!
Assuming a federal judge doesn’t stop it.
See how nice Trump is?
How about no taxes on tips…so let’s say you’re a waitress who makes 50% of gross on tips, bottom line looks great at the end of the year, vs an elementary school teacher with the same gross paying taxes on the entire wage. Seems very fair.
PS do federal workers get paid for all statutory holidays?
PPS answer is yes, get double time if you actually work the now 13 cardinal holidays.
I’m in the wrong field.
Exactly! And I am no fan of the no tax on tips BS….
Politicians buying votes.
Ummm… yeah…
haha that’s some good stuff there
bonus no poop to pick up
It seems more likely that they are ‘training an imaginary Cat‘.
small dogs….so for sure liberals
Looking at the Giants this week, several key players have not participated in practices, making their statuses in doubt for Sunday’s game. This includes their DE Kayvon Thibodeaux, who hasn’t played since week 10. Giants fans are starting to sour on him and some are even calling him a bust. Offensive lineman Evan Neal is still out, and he has been a much bigger bust than Thibodeaux, not playing a snap all season. Second-year safety Tyler Nubin was also out of practice (though not injury related), as was wide receiver Beaux Collins, linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, and defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Rochez. Also, a week after the Giants signed punter Cameron Johnston, who ended up punting against Washington, Jamie Gillan was limited once again in practice with a left knee injury. Cornerbacks Rico Payton and Dru Phillips (starting slot corner) were also limited in practice as they deal with back and heel injuries, respectively.
In a season marred by poor play and injuries on both sides of the ball, including Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo being lost for the season, for a key player like Kayvon Thibodeaux to be out with a shoulder injury for six weeks is concerning, and maybe indicative of a team that is just ready for the season to be over IMO.
I’m thinking we’ll look dominant this weekend.
Giants are a total shitshow.
Which is the type of teams we often get smacked by.
Those losses hurt the worst.
I’m going to be brutally honest here. There is no way the Giants will win.
#nojinx
You said almost the same thing about Tampa over Atlanta.
So did everyone else
And yet they were all wrong,
Which is why #nojinx is required.
They are, not a good year for New Jersey NFL teams.
IMHO it’s a total farking travesty if the team plays full out the last three games. They have literally nothing to play for. If a lineman is about to sack the QB, tuck and cover. If a WR is about to get lit up in the process of catching the ball, let it go and protect yourself. If a kick returner is coming at you full speed don’t take the damage, try and hook his legs as he goes by.
It would be so awesome if one or three starters including McFragile™ blow a knee or an elbow and is out for 12 months + just so the team can win a meaningless game, meaningless in terms of draft position lost or playoff position won.
The curmudgeon has spoken.
Did someone piss in your cheerios this morning??
Not at all. I’m just noting some extra enthusiasm from the locals on skoloholics to go out there and put it all on the line against the Giants for some dubious stat like KOC has put together x straight >.500 seasons.
Bold prediction. Jefferson will get 11 catches for over 150 yards and a TD this week.
Two tds
Wife and i debating if we go to the game. Only a 90 minute drive
debating?
The only time I’ve regretted going to a game was this year‘s Falcons game. That was a disgusting steaming pile of donkey doodoo. I don’t see that happening again, you should go.
So because the Giants defense sucks, or because KOC is going to scheme up some plays for Jefferson to get the ball some?
Actually both. The Giants don’t have a defender capable of staying with Jefferson now, so we’ll see a lot of zone. Jefferson is going to eat that defense up.
Jefferson is going to blow his quadriceps tendon leaping for an overthrown ball.
Before or after McFragile (mt) goes down with a hangnail?
Oh my goodness, go eat a snickers bar.
hot take of the day before i leave to go take my kids skiing….
there is ZERO chance the Giants win on Sunday. not because of anything the Vikings do, but because they won’t want to risk giving up their draft spot for next year.
easy win for the Vikes.
Not a bad theory…
That could be fun.
What if JJ reverts to spaz-arm qb again? do the giants DBs drop the int’s?
Haha yeah, “woops!”. *hands on helmet pretending to be mad about it*
Do you think they tell their team “no pick-6’s, go easy on the sacks, jog a little on defense” etc.?
Their Injury Report and Inactive List should reflect that strategy.
I don’t know if anyone has brought this up here, but I found it interesting.
(Spoiler: Kirk Cousins has a higher career QB rating than Peyton Manning)
There is also a dig at Tavaris Jackson in there lol.
‘Kirk Cousins has a higher career QB rating than Peyton Manning)’
But less Playoff wins and Superb Owls.
You know, things that matter.
I just found it interesting. I would have never guessed that was the case, would you have?
Math is not a friend of mine. QBR has never made any sense to me, nor does PFF Rankings or that ‘Expected Outcome’ garbage.
I think QB rating is a lot less guesswork and much more math-based than PFF’s arbitrary subjective ratings BS.
Eh.
The biggest factor in the quarterback rating, not the ESPN QBR version, is interceptions.
Interceptions are like a four fold multiplier than all the other stats.
Who determined that formula?
It’s all subjective.
I have posted the formula here before.
Don’t know it off the top of my head.
Accurate.
@Rember, winz are never a QB stat@
Anyone who thinks they are is mentally challenged, honestly. Totally irrational.
I agree, yet Payton is in the HOF,Cousins wont be. That is where that stat matters
I don’t know why anyone would be emotionally invested in whether Cousins is in the Hall of Fame.
There are a ton of guys who were really good, who never got to the Hall. There some like Terrell Owens I question being there too.
To me, the HoF should only have guys in it that were historically great. Jim Brown, Sweetness, Barry Sanders, maybe units like the Hogs, or the Great Wall of Dallas, or the Purple People Eaters, or the Steelers Steel Curtain.
Just my opinion of course.
Terrell Owens is top 3 in receiving yards and TD’s all time.
Currently 8th on the list of all time receptions.
1078 Receptions
153 TD’s
15,934 receiving yards
HoF numbers no matter how you cut it…..
Yes ‘worthiness’ is more and more a political consideration now a days.
Cris Carter-level in wrong-ness that he isn’t in.
To clarify…..
Terrell Owens IS in the HoF.
He chose not to attend the ceremony. Not a great look. But his choice.
Definitely a diva OFF the field and at times on the sidelines.
But I remember maximum effort from him on the field. Blocking. Runoffs. And dominant too. Also played incredibly well in a SB on a barely healed broken leg.
HoF no matter what. No question.
Well except of course when it’s “fourth quarter comeback wins” for Kirko. Then you love wins as a QB stat.
So that is a viable stat. A game winning drive is a game winning drive. It still doesn’t mean the QB won the game though. Caleb Williams “won” his first game completing 14 of 29 passes (48.3%) for 93 yards, 0 TD’s and a passer rating of 55.7. He contributed nothing… but “he” won the game. Total bullshit stat.
So why does a final drive count as a QB win,
but all the drives that lead to 48 points, or 30 points or 20 points, in a win is irrational?
So why is a drive that results in a last minute lead that equals a victory worth more than a last minute drive that results in a lead but becomes a loss due to ST failure (ie Chicago) or because the defense gave up a last second score.
I guess the answer is because ‘Life is not fair’. News Flash I know.
I’m more interested in fourth quarter choke drives.
How many of those does Kirko have?
You know.
Short on 4th & 8 to end the game.
Maybe a ratio.
4th and 8 on one side and 4th and 18 on the other??
The 4th and 18 wasnt the last play of the game or for the win. Remember Buffalo lost the game more then the Vikings won. Kirk got lucky Jefferson snagged a sure pick out of the CBs hands on that throw. Glad he made it. But the gravity of the season is on the line and is over on this play, is different then a meaningless game against an AFC team in regular season. Man I wish the 2022 season would stop being brought up.
Except Cousins didn’t choke in that game at all.
Keep in mind you are arguing with the guy who said the offense did not wrong in the Colts come back game when they put up 0 points in an entire half. Just refuses reality.
Just what is your formula or stat for evaluating QB effectiveness?
If you read my response, I said it STILL isn’t a QB win. Teams win or lose games. That is a fact. QB’s on their own do not win or lose games.
Never seen that, but it was funny, and fun. Thanks for sharing.
Haha you’re welcome. I loved that Wes Welker is taking shots at Tavaris and saying Brady was worse than him that game or whatever.
Pretty funny but a weird formula.
Thanks for sharing.
By the way, hear espn’s QBR is even crazier.
Kirk still sucks
Peyton sucks more apparently. 😉
Personally, I love seeing our current QB’s rating of one of the lowest in the NFL in many years, along with some games of worse than spiking the ball every play. Just so enjoyable to watch, way better than those Kirk years…
I am actually enjoying this season more than the Kirko years.
We were never winning anything of note while Kirko was making bank and Wryck was missing at the O line.
I do not expect anything this season, and when they look good vs bad teams like the Redskins and Cowboys, it is a very pleasant surprise.
As long as JJ looks better the last few games than he did his first few starts, the season is enjoyable.
The season is a success if they beat FTP the last game of the year.
Kurt who?
In regards to the offense’s adjustments discussed below, yes KOC has simplified the offense, and changed the personnel groupings to be a heavier set with two TE’s and a FB. He’s definitely adjusting to McCarthy. The Redskins did this with RGIII by taking the Baylor offense (verbiage and all) and transplanting it into their play book. Kyle Shanahan ran a predominately one read and take off running scheme, which RGIII ran in college. That eventually crumbled, as defenses figured it out. From there RGIII was unable to evolve into a true NFL QB.
This has been my question regarding McCarthy all along. Can he become a top shelf NFL QB? He has arm talent and athleticism. That’s really the bottom rung of the ladder for an NFL QB though. In fact, most of the great NFL QB’s weren’t spectacular athletes. Brady wasn’t, nor Brees, or either of the Manning’s, or Marino, or Montana, etc. It boils down to a fast brain and an accurate arm. Those are the singular traits all great QB’s have.
I’m waiting to see if McCarthy gets there.
admittedly, i don’t watch every presser, i don’t ready every article, etc etc…
but what is KOC doing different the last couple games vs earlier in the season?
i feel like he medium failed JJ by putting a complex offense around him, and he has sort of changed up the offense a bit to tailor JJ’s strengths…..that seems weird to me. am i wrong>?
‘he has sort of changed up the offense a bit to tailor JJ’s strengths’
Why does ‘that seem weird’ to you???
whyyyyyyyy didn’t he do that in the first place?
Because he is dumb and stubborn
Because he didn’t believe he needed to?
JJ (QB) had been learning the system for what 15 months prior to his first NFL start? KOC felt/hoped that was enough for him to handle the more complicated scheme initially.
seem weird to me, but that’s just me.
I might use a some different words like ‘shortsighted’, ‘naive’, ‘dumb’ or ‘overly optimistic’.
‘Weird’ just seems like a weird way to express it. #grin
Proudly so!!
Not sure what you mean by ‘tailor to JJs’ strengths’?
If it’s dumbing the offense down and giving JJ simplier reads not requiring a lot of processing, I don’t see that as a “strength.”
Maybe adjusting the offense to JJ’s capabilities.
He forgot to turn on his brain the first 3/4ths of the season.
Its personnel usage and route concepts. KOCs offense has used 11 personnel (3 WRs) for a majority of his time here, most in the league. And he was forcing JJ into that mold when in College JJ was use to having multiple TEs on the field, slants, middle of the field things and of course a good run game. KOC finally adjusted that and its been working. Granted against poor defenses but there’s multiple factors here. And contrary to some posters here, the personnel usage was being called out long before 3 weeks ago. Going back to the Baltimore game people were noticing this.
I’ve not seen a vehicle referred to as Asian before today.
Racist!
Right?
just having a discussion here in the office, curious where you guys stand on this…
i said i was excited to see it will be 40 on christmas, makes going outside easier and generally just is nice to have 40 in december…
i’m being blasted by a few co-workers who say it’s horrible its going to be 40 on christmas and it will be brown etc…. (which it won’t, we have a solid base of snow)
would you guys be upset with 40 degree christmas?
nope not at all
I’m going to be in the Seattle/Tacoma area on Christmas and it is supposed to be 43 degrees and a chance of rain. While a white Christmas is nice, it isn’t necessary.
Yes, that is too cold….smirc
It is forecast to be 54 and partly cloudy here on Christmas Day. I think we will be alright, rainy on Christmas Eve.
If it’s 40° where you live, it won’t affect me, so I’m indifferent.
Ok, kfey.
❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ – See, Brad knows whats up.
love thissssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
40 degrees Celsius sounds like Christmas in Dubai.
Happy Friday,

Looks like a crazy game last night. I watched a bit of it.
Too the highlight machine!
Way past my bedtime, but I couldn’t quit watching.
Bunch of unemployed bozos still I see. Your moms must not keep the computer in the basement for you.
Revisiting yesterday’s discussions a bit
I will not name my app on an open forum because someone will steal it and my riches that will no doubt be coming my way
nice buck kfey – well struck at 400 yd

I was just trying to stay awake, glad I had someone here to bullshit with
‘glad I had someone here to bullshit with’
‘No one of any consequence’
I would have joined you guys, but I was reading a book while the game was one.
HAMMMM! Miss you stu. Place is boring with out you
