Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
It’s finally Friday! I plan to get out early this morning to do some fishing, the sun doesn’t rise until after 7:30, so I don’t even have to get up early in order to get up early. Yay!
Here’s a picture of the present we got for Mrs. Fishin’ on her birthday. It’s a special release sweatshirt from UNRL, I got lucky & snagged it when it was first released and before it sold out. We added the two bows, they didn’t come with the sweatshirt.

I thought we were bad at stopping 3rd or 4th and long But Houston said ‘hold my beer’ on the Bills 4th and 27. Impressive.
Saw that last night when it happened. 4th and 27… game over. Nope. I was rooting for the Texans, and when the Bills pulled this off I was like, here we go… choke city. To the Texans credit, they kept fighting, and got’er done.
It got the Bills into FG range but that is not enough when you are down by 4.
They couldn’t get into the end zone before time ran out.
Love this kind of discussion…
Looks pretty good for us…
Yep.
We can relate…
That one is so true.
Like JR said, slow day today.
I am about to cheat at WORDLE, does that make me an evil person?
Every night the wife and I play some word games – she on her IPAD me on my droid. One game we play is WORDLE – she is much much better at it which frustrates me.
Today I had the idea that I could pre play it at work and then tonight I will already know the answer so I will miraculously get it in 2 or 3. I am a genius.
It all depends on how you frame it.
Cheating on the wife = very bad.
Gaming the situation = partially bad
Teasing the wife playfully = pretty good.
If you are bored and have time, super interesting fan theory that Sean Connery’s charact in the rock is actually Sean Connery’s James Bond and they can prove it with time lines.
In the Rock, “Mason” played by Connery was an ex British Army special op’s guy. James Bond was a British Naval Officer at some point in his career. I think this is a stretch. Was Mason like Bond? Yep. Did Connery likely draw on his experience playing Bond to play Mason? Undoubtedly. That’s about all I see here though. Just my personal opinion.
It’s slow so the sort of much awaited golf story.
I play pretty good golf but hardly have a classic swing. Really a converted baseball swing. Just hitting low pitches.
Well, since I started again, and at my age, have been having trouble hitting irons high enough. Even a well struck 7 iron rolls out to much to my liking.
Now, I play with very stiff shafted 20 year old clubs. Anyways, the club were I play was having a free out door on the range club fitting.
I signed up and went thru the process.
Just say WOW. With the newer club heads and graphite shafts I can actually hit the ball high like I did 20 years ago. It was amazing.
i had never in my life done this and would highly recommend doing this. And doing it outside so you can actually see the flight of the ball is a huge plus.
I’m ready to take on Lifer now.
Oh for sure, if your shaft was too stiff for your swing that really makes it difficult to hit it high. If your staff is too flexible for your swing you will hit too high and spray it.
That is exciting!
Let me know how it progresses as you get out on the course.
I am about right on the fringe, I still hit stiff shafted clubs but I need to be moving to regular any day now.
I have arthritis in a few joints. And as you know even a small mishit causes that vibration thru your body. And for me, that would mean a lot of soreness the next day. Believe this will really help with this.
Graphite shafts vs steel helped that for me. It still hurts if I take too much turf, but it does not hurt as badly.
Very cool JR. Glad those clubs gave you that height back to your shots. I have always been able to hit the ball high, but really not with a ton of backspin to make the ball stop quickly. I made a change a while back that we discussed, where I feel like the back of my left hand is covering the ball a lot more at impact, and I am crunching the ball now with much more distance, and much more spin. It’s great to hit a 7 iron and watch it not bounce and roll off the green.
LoL on the taking on Lifer!
I noticed the same. Technology matters, and the bounce of the head and lightweight shafts really make the ball jump.
I replaced irons more than 20 years old and it really helped a ton.
And considering stuff we should ALL care about……sickening.
Minnesota taxpayer funds allegedly linked to Al-Shabaab terror group via fraud | Fox News
Notice how all this is coming out now that we’re getting rid of corrupt, politically charged people in the DOJ? None of this would have ever been revealed if the Dems had won a year ago.
Well someone better figure out a way to get rid of all the idiots we seem to now have as Judges.
That Judge in NY that let that criminal with his record out so he goes and burns a women, should be immediately removed and put under investigation.
Don’t worry. I’m sure Timmy is on top of it. Probably won’t get it taken care of now, but in his next term I’m sure he will.
Yes, and there are hundreds out there just like her. Liberal judges who don’t think people should go to jail for stealing, or just beating someone, or just raping someone. Not even killing someone. We are seeing the fruits of putting people who are not in favor of punishing criminals on the bench. The left wants to do away with law enforcement, and even jails. They’re nuts.
But we seem to have no recourse against totally incompetent judges. That simply isn’t right.
That was in Chicago, not New York.
Both are screwed up.
Absolutely true.
Applies to most Blue Cities.
“The largest funder of Al-Shabaab is the Minnesota taxpayer.”
Depressing and disgusting.
Ilhan Omar must be so proud.
Lord works in mysterious ways. My bar co worker that I had a work thing with that I hadn’t spoken to in over a year finally left her psycho bf back in September and we’ve slowly reconnected through our group of friends and have hung out a handful of times since October. Im giving her and her daughter the space they need but, she’s slowly coming around and were talking a lot. Control what you can, and let go of the things you cant and the rest will align itself. Stay tuned.
Good luck man!
Good luck. Is that the blonde you posted a picture of year or so back?
The same!
Went to St. Paul and saw Pentatonix last night with my fam. It was a good show, but I didn’t know it was their Christmas special (wife just announced “Pentatonix is playing in St. Paul, do you want to go?”)
Got home at midnight, and now I’ll probably be napping in the deer stand when da Turdy Pointer walks by………
Napping in the deer stand was my favorite part of deer hunting.
‘saw Pentatonix last night’
Have seen several Home Free shows.
They are not as good since Austin Brown left the group.
I was expecting their mainstream music, but the Christmas stuff was OK.
They finished with Hallelujah, which made me happy.
I don’t remember Austin. Must have been before I became a fan. I DO remember this guy – he was good.
They are both is this video, Avi right after he left Pentatonix and Austin before he left Home Free. Austin was the high tenor of that group.

Was going to tell you all a little golf story. But see below no one gives a shit about anyone’s golf game.
Oh well, there’s always the Packers and football gmes.
I don’t mind people posting about their golf game.
Reading and responding to them is not required.
I have learned and improved my game from those posts
An added benefit is that it gives me something to mock and joke about.
I care. Apparently someone doesn’t.
I don’t care about the hunting and fishing stories but I don’t mind that people post them.
I don’t care about the car fixing and house building stories but I don’t mind that people post them.
I don’t care about the cooking/bbq stories but I don’t mind that people post them.
I’m all ears for your golf story JR. This is an open blog. If folks don’t want to read your story, or any responses to it, they can simply scroll past it. Fire away!
I need to catch up now

Nice. We just got home from lunch, shopping, etc. Just watching golf, and hanging out now.
After watching Orlovsky’s critique of JJs mechanics I believe I have a better chance of becoming a scratch golfer than JJ does of becoming an accurate NFL passer.
Both would require unlearning everything that has been natural and starting from scratch – pretty much like teaching yourself to bat left handed – yes it can be done, but few can do it.
I don’t think it is going to happen for JJ. I could be wrong, I often am.
My golf swing changes just about every round. Driven by how the body feels that day and what it will allow me to do.
The real question is how did things even come to this?
I’m going to get a hamburger while I ponder the question…
I hate to judge, but 9.20 is a bit early for a hamburger, isn’t it?
Just call it ‘Brunch’ and it is all good.
I did not have it until 10:40!
I will approve of it.
Just add bacon and a fried egg to the burger.
I’m eating a jar of pickles and now a burger sounds good, really good
I do get that working on mechanics can “tighten things up” and make you more consistent. My golf game got more consistent after I read Hogan’s book “Five Lessons”. I started hitting the ball much more consistently when I applied his fundamentals to my game. That said, I do a little practice set up and swing drill I personally developed to sort of put the elements of those fundamentals to work before each shot. That’s a lot different than taking a snap, dropping back, seeing the defense, knowing where you need to go with the ball, and delivering it while folks are trying to tackle you though. I never consciously thought about how I was throwing a football in my life. I was taught to hold the ball with my elbows tucked in, and close to my chest on my drop to prevent defenders from knocking it out of my hands. I learned that as a freshman in high school. The actual throwing motion was never coached or addressed. I just threw the ball at my target.
Dunno if JR worked on throwing mechanics as a pitcher.
You sure do qnd really big time when you’re younger. As you get older it’s more tweaks here and there.
WRT JJ. Bow said something very interesting the other day – like JJ has good mechanics in practice, but they seem to fall apart in the game.
KOC has said many times you have to play QB with a “quiet mind.” Seeing how JJ is always jumping around, doubt he has a quiet mind. More like he’s all amped up in the game and then his mechanics break down.
‘you have to play QB with a “quiet mind.” Seeing how JJ is always jumping around, doubt he has a quiet mind. More like he’s all amped up in the game and then his mechanics break down’
Logical take, more mental than physical it seems.
Just like NVF’s, nobody cares about your golf game, and lol, orlovsky, you mean the guy who ran out the end zone for a safety because he was so afraid of Jared Allen potentially hitting him, he’s a loser who still sucks. McCarthy may develop, he may not, but talking heads like orlovsky said the same kinda things about guys like Allen, mahomes, Lamar, etc. So I’ll wait and see what happens before making any rash assessments.
Supposedly The Douche has terrible mechanics but he has had some success in the NFL I have heard.
Gil Brandt knew a little about player evaluation, at least I think so and the NFL HOF agreed, and he said you should not even begin to evaluate a QB until they’ve played 20 games. But hey, rubes on the internet probably know better than him and we should just cut JJ now.
You could be right, time will tell, I am just very very pessimistic right now, changing your mechanics to that extent is not easy – I hope a year from now I am admitting I was wrong….I was certainly wrong about Daniel Hunter who I didn’t think would be any good.
Allen is a really good example of someone who had shitty mechanics and fixed them, it can be done.
This. This is all I think of when he talks……
I learned how to throw left handed when I had surgery on my right hand that time.
Were you jumping bikes off a ramp?
An incident that will live in infamy.
Much like some random ‘Battery Changing’ incident has.
Our oldest son and family arrived today at around 4 am. I was sleeping. Now they are sleeping. This day could have a theme. Sleeping. However, I think the sleeping part will change rapidly once the grandkids wake up.
Sounds like a great time ahead VP.
Enjoy!
Sounds fun, enjoy!
What a morning.
Nice. However, I prefer to watch the sunrise with my eyelids closed.
There is nothing like a hot cup of coffee early in the morning watching the sun rise over a body of water. I take it that is the Missouri?
I love watching the sunrise
Pretty
Beautiful. Nothing better than an early morning start!
Watch it every morning. Go for a walk with a good cup of coffee – pleasant, peaceful and beautiful.
Morning all, and SKOL. Took the wife’s car in for an oil change this morning. They open at 7:30 so I was there at about 7:20. First one in line. Took less than 15 minutes, and they really did a good, thorough job. Her car has a whopping 7,908 miles on it. 2022 Challenger.
We’ll be taking the laundry to the dry cleaners, doing some grocery shopping, and also having lunch somewhere today. Heading out around 11 to do that.
I’m rewatching the Bills vs the Texans game from last night. Love seeing Josh Allen getting sacked a lot, and the Bills losing… grin.
I have been told when you are retired every day is a Saturday. I can’t wait. June 30th is fast approaching.
I can confirm this is true. Every day is Saturday. I still get up every day pretty early. Used to be up by 4:15 every day when I was working. Still up by 5:30 every day now. Like JR, watching the sun come up with a cup of coffee and a bagel, or some other breakfast food is still such a great feeling. Since I’m on the West Coast of Florida, watching the sun set over the Gulf is always very cool as well.
It does seem like retirement does afford you the time to enjoy the little things that you never have time for when you’re working.
I love getting up early and taking an afternoon nap.
I do not exaggerate when saying I would be 75 percent happier if I could take a nap at 1 p.m. every day.
I am fine with 6-7 hours sleep, but a day without a nap is always a struggle.
I did that for a few months right after I retired, it felt great. But then I started having trouble getting to sleep at night since I was not as tired.
Currently have a decent routine, up about 7am, in bed about 11:30pm, read for about an hour and then to sleep. It works for me.
The Teacher is up just before the ‘Crack of Noon’, in bed around midnight and asleep before 2 am. She relishes her late mornings after getting up at 5am while teaching.
Yeah, my wife likes to stay up past midnight.
I have not seen past midnight in a long, long time!
‘I’m rewatching the Bills vs the Texans game from last night’
I had it on but was switching back and forth to other things. The game itself was good but the commercials, penalties and injuries made it all but unwatchable. Heck even a Ref was carted off with a ruptured achilles.

Real men change their own oil.
Or is “took the wife’s car in for an oil change” a euphemism?
On my way out the door to go fishing, have an awesome day, everyone, I know I will.
Have fun, stay out of jail GF!
I’ll do my best
If I ever get to Dick Cheney’s grave, i’m gonna piss on it. What a dirty, greedy, traitorous son of a bitch. Good riddance.
Oh he wasn’t so bad. Only got tens of thousands people killed, destabilized the entire Middle East,, and spent 8 trillion dollars doing it.
Other than that and the grifting, I suppose he wasn’t horrible
Other than that Mrs Lincoln, how was the play
I think the Middle East was destabilized way before Cheney was born.
Well, we at least we had Iraq as a check to Iran. At least that’s why Daddy Bush left Sadam in power following the first Gulf War.
The missile base where my dad worked in Farmington MN is for sale if anyone wants to buy it. These are the missiles my dad could have shot at Russian bombers. I am not sure if they come with the site or not…
sold for…
That’s a great movie. I remember the first time I saw it. I was in college and needed a severe pick-me-up. It was on TNT’s Dinner And A Movie series.
Cheered me right up with its wackiness.
It’s fantastic, lanes mother is awesome and the French chick is so much hotter and cooler than Beth
Crazy stuff, reminds me of the abandon nekoma missile base in North Dakota – it is still quite the site – it was built to shoot down incoming Russian nukes while they were still in Canadian airspace. Understandably the Canadians didn’t think it was a good idea –
Spent 6 billion dollars on it and it was open for 6 months.
Stanley R. Mickelsen Safeguard Complex – Wikipedia
Awesome. I was in Berlin when the wall came down – all of a sudden with the swipe of a pen, the western allies were in possession of hundreds of Soviet era fighters – MiGs, Sukhois, etc…..
And to think of what Belenko and Zuyev had to go through to deliver their aircraft when they defected……
I was in Korea when the wall was torn down but had spent 3 years in Berlin prior to that, went back for my Marathon in ’91.
I watched the movie ‘Reagan’ and choked up when it showed him giving his ‘tear down this wall’ speech and the resulting ‘fall of the wall’.
Seeing all the crosses on the wall to memorialize those who were killed by E. Germans when they tried to cross was heartbreaking.
Lets do this!
Happy Friday all,
I have a half day today at work. Headed up to the US Bank to watch the JCC Huskies play the Goodhue Wildcats for the state championship. Y’all behave now.
For the Gopher fans out there, the JCC QB will be playing TE for the Gophers next year. The left tackle has committed to SDSU.
