Wow, I got zero picks correct in our pick ’em league yesterday. I did try to switch my pick in the first game to the Packers, but it was too close to game time and I couldn’t switch. That’s as close as I got to a correct pick. I’m thinking of picking against the Vikings in order to help them. Since I’m choosing incorrectly, I should pick the Vikings to lose in order to ensure that they will win. I believe that is correct. If not, let me know why.
Another game today, which is odd, Friday games seem…….wrong, unless it’s a high school game. Oh well, NFL has to bleed every penny they can out of the system, @I’d hate to see them miss out on revenue@.

The other day I got a 10′ ladder from them to change the battery in the smoke detector.
Yesterday I was checking ‘Black Friday’ sales and saw that they had a great deal on a 5cu ft chest freezer (we have been looking for one) so I ordered one. I found out if I registered I would get a 10% Veterans Discount.
So I ordered for ‘pick up’ and they e-mailed me this morning that it was ready. I had the receipt for the ladder still in the truck so I took that in as well. They ‘returned’ the ladder and resold it me for $28 less with just the receipt.
So I got a $180 freezer for $98 and a rebate for the $28 back on the ladder I had previously purchased. I credit good karma. #grin

It is cool, wet and gloomy here. We might get some snow tonight, not a lot but more than a ‘dusting’.
We are supposed to get around 5 to 9 inches of snow between tomorrow and tomorrow night.

I did Bacon Turkey yesterday, didn’t use quite as much though.
The Teacher said it was a success and even stated ‘do that again next year’.
I had read that, so was wondering. My wife isn’t interested in trying this method. She’s really good at cooking a turkey though. Juicy, tender, delicious.
Good for you guys. I had a banana in the morning for breakfast, went and worked on pulling up some old fencing at the new place (I call the Love Shack). About 1130 we drove in to the hospital in our Carhartt fencing regalia and bought two turkey dinner specials to go, $8 apiece. It was really good, filled me up to the point I didn’t have to eat the rest of the day.
Meal prep and cleanup were definitely easy.
We had a package of bacon that needed to be used, it is suppose to keep the turkey moist and juicy but have minimal effect on the flavor.
We like the result, plus the bacon was tasty as well.
Can’t disagree with this take… at all.
I can’t wait for the full story on what happened with the Vikings at QB this season and last. Should be entertaining. Might be years until we get the story, but the truth eventually comes out.
It bugged me when they played Wentz with a broken shoulder socket, torn labrum, and bad ribs, while McCarthy nursed an ankle. Four days after Wentz suffered through that tough Thursday night loss, we hear McCarthy crowing about how great he feels. I mean, really? You nurse an injury for over 6 weeks, then suddenly in four days you’re fully healthy and ready to play?

Yep, but when trying to get the financial house in order one must ‘play the odds’.
When an older QB is coming off a major injury the odds are a bit longer.
So we all now know clearly though, that rookies are never good, competent QB’s in the NFL right? So don’t ever tell me that going with a young guy, and expecting a lot out of him is a good idea. You generally set your team back 3 years on offense when you bring in a rookie and expect them to be able to lead a team.

Seems like we have seen some pretty good, competent rookie QBs the last couple of years.
They have made it deep into the playoff and even to a SB.
And even if they are not good the first year or two it does not mean playing one is a bad idea long term.
I get that people, myself included’ are frustrated with the current state of our QB and that full ‘Doom Mode’ has been activated for many.
Doom Mode? It is what it is. Our QB room is either in a good position or not.
I don’t think of it as doom mode at all. The team whiffed at the development of a rookie QB “so far”. Remember, we the masochistic fans were told that all last year JJ was devouring film footage, studying defensive alignments of opponents, working his ass off in rehab and drills. Not to rehash in detail, but then we had the TC accolades, preseason limited play, near catastrophic opening games, the 2-4 week becoming six week ankle sprain, etc…
Something happened…this fails the smell test and it remains to be seen whether this is a JJ issue (is there discord, lack of toughness, etc “behind the scenes”) or a coaching issue.
I did not expect the team to win more than six games this season and stated so in the offseason. I may still be wrong but in my humble opinion the best thing for us as fans would be to lose out, burn dead wood in the offseason, and start rebuilding in the draft.
Oh there are definitely issues and currently things are not good.
Some are in Doom Mode, not all. I figure it is mostly the frustration and Viking PTSD talking.
I’m in the same place I’ve always been. I never thought McCarthy was going to be good in the NFL to start. I figured he could do the basic things, and throw the ball decently enough that the offense would alright though. Unfortunately, all the skill position talent we have on the books hasn’t really panned out and now our young QB keeps being pulled off the field for injuries. Just very disappointing.
I think what we saw was some guys getting a little lucky coming in. Stroud? Great first year, now no. Nix? Pretty impressive first year, but not playing as well this year. Daniels? Had a brilliant year, but completely destroyed now. Young QB’s always struggle for a few years.
Mahomes just improvised with Kelce for 3 years till he “got it”. Now he’s having some troubles because he’s actually trying to execute an offense, not running around making it up as he goes.

True, and his plan from day one was to get rid of that QB as soon as possible, and replace him with a rookie. Something a lot of folks agreed with. I understood the fiscal perspective of the issue. But like every schoolgirl in the seventh grade knows, you never let boyfriend #1 go, till you have boyfriend #2 on the hook.
And you can’t compete in the NFL without competent QB play.
Try winning a division when you have the 4th best QB Room in the division.
Yes. We discussed the roster this year as being “QB proof” and all you needed was pretty decent QB play and the offense would be very good. We even thought if McCarthy was more than decent, the team could win a lot of games, and contend in the playoffs. None of that worked out as expected/hoped though.
It’s weekend eve, and our game with Seattle is pretty big. The team needs a win. The end.
Would help if the Eagles beat the Bears today. That would make me happy.

This is what young QB’s in the league need. A good QB to follow, and a good coach to explain things and teach them about reading defenses. Then a set of coaches that can add information and knowledge on specific defensive players, and how individual teams play a certain type of defense. It takes a lot to get a QB to a point where they can see it, know it, and throw it with confidence.

My daughter and her boyfriend are headed back to her mothers house now. Just finished a nice breakfast with them. It was fun having them here, even for just a couple nights and the day. They are making the rounds, seeing a lot of her friends and of course family. He wanted to stay for the weekend and hit some golf balls, but their schedule is too tight I guess, and right now it’s about 43 degrees out. Winter is finally hitting Florida.
JRo has mentioned on here several times he thinks officiating is fixed. I always doubted that.
But have watched the Cowboys beat the Eagles and Chiefs last two weeks and both of those teams must have gotten 275 yards of penalties.
Some of it is outrageous, Pickens pushes off every DB on every play and half the time they call DPI. And it’s usually in very critical situations.
I didn’t really care who won the game, but the Chiefs got hosed as did the Eagles last week.
