Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts

That Vikings game sucked. The Vikings got killed in the trenches, our O line was an abysmal pile of fecal matter, and our D line was humiliated by the Steelers O line. Combine that with a poor offensive approach by KOC, and the result is a loss. Most of this game was boring and depressing, with head-scratching play calls kept the offense from getting into a rythm and lacking the run-pass balance we were hoping to see this season. Eventually, the Vikings made a legit push at the end to come back, but it fell just short as they ran out of time and added additional head scratching game management decisions that cost them dearly.

Wentz played a good game, considering the horrific situations he played in for most of the game. The two interceptions were not on him, both were tipped balls. On most plays, the pressure was on top of Wentz as soon he got to the top of his drop. He made some nice plays to escape pressure, but there’s only so much one can do.

Jordan Addison showed up looking likea guy who has NOT been preparing for his return to the field, he dropped a few passes, and then there was this long catch and run that should have been a TD (thanks, Vikings.com). Instead, he got caught by a linebacker who was 10 yards behind him when he made the catch. That looks to me like poor conditioning, no way he should have been caught by a linebacker on that play. It seems trivial, as the team eventually scored the TD (barely, they went to 4th down), but it chewed off an addional 45 seconds from the game clock, which would have been REALLY nice to have on their final drive.

The defense started off okay, but they seemed to play half-assed through the second half. The Steelers running backs had wide open lanes through which you could have driven a dump truck.

Wentz came into this team 5 weeks ago. In his two games, he’s accumulated 523 yards, with a 66.7% completion rate, and 4 TD’s with 2 interceptions and a cumulative passer rating of 98.2.

McCarthy has been here for over a year and a half, has everything he needs to be very good, and should be producing far better than a guy with just a few weeks with the team.

He has 301 yards passing, 2 TD’s and 3 interceptions, a 58.5% completion rate, and a cumulative passer rating of 67.2. He’s ranked 35th in the league.

McCarthy has a long way to go.

You should always ‘expect’ the worst from the Vikings.
Hope for the best yes, but ‘expect the worst’.

Kinda strange, I bet on us winning the first three games. Didn’t today, just thought we’d lose. Just sort of a feeling.

Out of the 11 matches played today, the Europeans won 1, and tied 4. Hovland had a neck injury, so he didn’t play, and his match was automatically a tie and a half point.

So the European team won only one match today, but won the Ryder Cup anyway.

Sounds like I did not miss much. I picked them to lose anyway. Not a confident pick, but I figured Rodgers would do okay and we were bound to lose a European game anyway. At least we are winners when it comes to having the prettiest male cheerleaders…

It is going to be one if those years. Probably no guaranteed wins. They are F’ed up at all levels. Kicker is maybe okay!

He was only in for 8 plays last week from what I read.
But the game might have been over at that point with the Pick 6 and the Scoop and Score.

I have become so conditioned over the years, and especially during the Kirko years, that I turned the game off as soon as the score was 14-3. Very nice day outside, so I took the dogs for a walk, then went grocery shopping. Both of those things are more fun than watching another failure.

Looks like they tried to make it interesting, but this team still is complete shit on both sides of the interior line. Free agents are either dying or not playing well.

Kirk kept us in pretty much every game, and led 20 game winning drives for us… so you’re misremembering.

No, I am not “misremembering” at all. The team had zero chance of a Super Bowl run with Kirk at QB. So, by October most years I could take my Sundays back and do other things. That time is now once again upon me, and I get my Sundays back to watch a bit if I want, and do something else when they decide to suck like they did today.

Last season was the same, honestly. Sam Darnold turning into Sam Darnold was exactly like Case Keenum and Kirk in previous seasons. You hit the playoffs, and the weaknesses show.

That is what you get.

This team feels exactly the same, although if they ever do start JJ again I will watch the upcoming train wreck at least for a while. He will have a career ending injury playing behind this O line.

As promised, I started watching the game at 3 pm Mountain and zoomed through the commercials and replays/reviews. Penalties are a BiG problem for the team this year. Unsportsmanlike conduct gtfo.

Bottom line was able to do fun stuff AND watch the game in 60 minutes flat. Love the 7:30 am games!
