Random Thoughts

Man, long day yesterday, I put on 550 miles. I have nowhere to go today other than Bismarck & Mandan, it’s gonna be a good day, hopefully we can get out & do some fishing when kiddo gets out of school.

Vikings/NFL Discussion

It was sad to hear about the guy who fell out of the golf cart & died from a head injury, the golf cart was driven by John Elway. In case you haven’t seen it, here are details about the story, courtesy of CBS Sports.

Vikings News

The Vikings are digging deep to get to the next level, according to Vikings.com.

J.J. McCarthy knows he’s ready to start, from Fox Sports.

The Sporting News predicts it will be the Browns and not the Vikings who will sign CB Asante Samuel Jr. This is pure speculation on their part, they must be bored & in need of something to write about.

NFL News

The NFL fined the Falcons $100K and Jeff Ulbrich $250K over the leak of Shedeur Sanders’ phone number, per CBS Sports. Okay, now read the next story.

It was the NFL who sent Shedeur Sanders’ phone number to Jeff Ulbrich, per MSN. Yet, the NFL fined the Falcons. Interesting, maybe they should have fined theirselves. That would make no sense to do, which would be par for the course for the NFL. They might even have a policy that requires them to do it. Goofballs.

Pete Prisco posted his post-draft NFL power rankings, from CBS Sports. Wow, only four months too early.

We’ve all knows that Aaron Rodgers will be going to the Steelers, despite tons of blabbering to the contrary by NFL journalists. It looks like we were right and they were wrong. @I’m shocked@

Media Selection

As of this writing, the Wolves-Lakers game hasn’t started. I hope like hell the Wolves ended this series.

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics to a minimum. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be respectful and civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument, not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW language/pictures to a minimum. We don’t want anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • To summarize, behave like adults. Treat each other with respect, and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something, please do. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.

According to the Garner Police Department, two non-citizens (i.e. illegal aliens), along with an escaped third accomplice, abducted a North Carolina mother and her infant daughter at gunpoint on Monday after the family declined to pay a $1 million ransom.

Paola Duran Duran, 25, her brother Miguel Angel Duran Duran, 23, and Eleodoro “Leo” Estrada-Hernandez, 37, who escaped from police, are accused of orchestrating the kidnapping before ultimately releasing the victims.

The mother and child later sought refuge by knocking on the door of a stranger’s home.

Albert Breer says there was discussion that Minnesota could bring Kirk Cousins back in a trade with the Falcons, if Atlanta took on more of Cousins’ money. Then the deal to bring Sam Howell in from Seattle got done, which closed the door on the remote possibility that would happen.

Let’s be clear, Cousins wasn’t ever going to agree to come back to Minnesota to be a backup to McCarthy. The only “discussion” on this was from idiot pundits.

You’d probably best appreciate this text exchange if you are in the medical field but sometimes I shake my head…

(PA in Armpit, MT): Hi doc, I got a yellow alert on the cervical spine MRI on Mr. Doe. The neurologist wanted me to follow up on the findings. I am comfortable with the thyroid nodule followup but can you glance at the images and tell me if I need to do anything with the spine findings?

I’m thinking what is this about, I haven’t alerted any spine findings in a week or more. Hmm…typety type okay let’s see…MR done in Billings and read by one of the Billings rads…I see they saw a thyroid nodule, followup recommended…what’s bullet point #1 in the impression?

Me: Ummm…if the neurologist that ordered the study expected you to manage the severe cord swelling on the INPATIENT in Billings that is a real serious problem. I don’t think that having you manage cord swelling on an inpatient from your clinic in Armpit would go over well. However, if you clarify that the neurologist does indeed want you to manage the cord swelling, you should immediately call the department chair Dr. Quack and discuss the immediate termination of the neurologist in question. As for the thyroid, that can be followed electively with a thyroid ultrasound and I will give you more details after I read the ultrasound. If you have any further questions feel free to let me know.

That is verbatim the text conversation except for altering the names. That convo took place at 8 am. I haven’t heard anything back yet. Did I come across too strong?

It’s the people living in the million dollar homes driving the fancy new BMW and sending their kids to private school that are in hock up to their eyeballs. I was entertained by the answers, but I went ahead and Googled it anyway.

The key difference between regular olive oil and extra virgin olive oil lies in their production methods and resulting quality. Extra virgin olive oil is cold-pressed and unrefined, meaning no heat or chemicals are used in its extraction, preserving more of its natural flavors and nutrients. Regular olive oil, on the other hand, may be refined and/or heated during processing, resulting in a lighter color, milder flavor, and potentially lower nutrient content.

KFEY93
Reply to  VikingPhilip
1 May 2025 12:43 pm

Also olive oil should be used as close to fresh as possible (sounds obvious I know) but if its been on the shelf a long time or youve had it open a long time it should be replaced, it will look fine and sizzle fine but if you are looking for flavor and nutrients as fresh as possible is key. Stuff is expensive haha

Doesn’t extra virgin also refer to it being the first, fresh press from the olives, virgin is second with some refinement, and regular is that last bit they are able to squeeze out (chemically)? That was my rememberance of it and I tried to get in on the jokes while also answering the question correctly.

It definitely includes the complaining. Man, they whine about every call. I told my wife there is such a huge difference between NBA and NHL. NBA is a bunch of entitled little babies. The NHL is a bunch of dudes willing to be hacked, slashed, checked, lose teeth, and be hurt as long as they win.

But it’s also the game these days. Every possession is getting open for a three point shot, and if not getting open then driving and trying/crying/whining for a foul. So boring.

According to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, “No president has done so much, so quickly, to keep Americans safe abroad”.

In just 100 days, we’ve secured the release of 47 unjustly detained Americans around the world – including in Afghanistan, Russia, and Venezuela – through high-level diplomatic efforts.

Kuwait has also released nearly two dozen detained Americans in the past two months.

Trump is feared, and respected around the world. He wields Presidential power in a way I’ve never seen in my lifetime.

Why is Kuwait detaining Americans?
I can only assume it is for breaking their laws which can be strange for visiting Americans.

I don’t know, but Kuwait is an Islamic country, with Sharia law. Americans are foolish, and often do things insulting to Islam. They also think because they’re American, they are immune to local laws and customs. They aren’t.

I wonder if the agents for the incoming rookies are perfectly honest with their clients. Do they tell them that the federal government will be taking a chunk of their big shiny new contract, not only for income tax but also for fica and medicare? Do they tell them that their state and possibly their city will also tax them? Do they tell them that some cities that they play in, even though they are not citizens, will also want to tax them? Do they also tell them that the NFL taxes them? The NFL calls it fines, but a fine implies that it is for doing something wrong and in the NFL, if you don’t do something wrong, they will find something and call it wrong so they can “fine” (tax) you. Even if you make a perfect hit that is completely legal, all it takes is for a group to start whining about it on social media and the PR (tax) department will jump in with a fine so it will appear the NFL is doing something right. And if they can’t get you for that, they will get you because after the tackle one of your socks was lower than the other and you don’t look professional. I hope those guys that I saw on tv getting drafted have a plan to sell that massive bling they had on because they may need it to pay the fines.

Do you believe that all of that will keep young men from perusing the dream that they have worked for years to achieve.
Many/most still feel that the rewards outweigh the risks.

VikingPhilip

Of course the reward is still great, I just wonder if someone is honest with them to let them know that a $10 million contract doesn’t mean $10 million. Plus my real point was to lambast the NFL and their “fines”.

I understand that the NFL is ‘Entertainment not Sports’ and so that their rules are not always (ok seldom) logical.
That said, even if young players understood all of that it would not discourage the vast majority of them.

Death and taxes… everyone knows this. The bigger the contract, the more you pay. The libs want the rich to pay more, while spending 2 Trillion dollars more than they bring in and increasing the National debt every single year.

Since the 1960s, only five years have had balanced federal budgets: 1969 under President Richard Nixon; 1998, 1999 and 2000 under Bill Clinton; and 2001 under George W. Bush.

Trump is thinking tariffs can offset taxation to some degree, to increase external income, to reduce or even eliminate the IRS and taxes. I doubt this is possible, but increasing external income to the Government will definitely have a positive impact if the politicians don’t waste it.

The last I heard, Trump’s tariffs were already generating $2B a day in external income. If they increase to $3B a day, they will generate over a Trillion dollars a year in external income.

Have to increase revenue other than taxation. Traditionally the feds have taxed at approx 17% of the GDP. There is (I hope) a limit to what citizens are willing to pay in taxes. Will tariffs act as a de facto VAT with the consumer paying it? If so how will tariffs effect the average household? I truthfully don’t know how this plays out.

Tariffs do not effect consumers unless they buy tariffed goods.
So buy American and ‘poof’ no tariff.

If someone is graduating from high school and doesn’t understand how progressive taxation works, that is on the educators of that adult, not the agent.

I love these monster contracts. Think how many federal and state dollars are spent in your county thanks to diva athletes and movie stars, singers, etc…LOVE THEM! TAY TAY YOU DA BOMB!

I had intentions of going to bed after half time last night, I showered, came back out and it was still close with 7 min left in the 4th. Sat down and finished it. Ugly game that would have been a blow out if they had it 1/3 more of their shots. That cant continue, better teams will make them pay for that type of performance. Ants body language seemed off all game, 2nd guessing, hesitant, shot not in sync. I started kicking it out more and moving the ball which was nice but he still forced a lot of 3s. Whole team did. Oh well, win ugly > lose pretty.

Well, forced as in, they were getting open looks down in the paint with the size mismatch, especially when Ant was on the permitter and getting double teamed, instead of taking advantage of that size, they chose to shoot 3s. Oh well, they will have to re tool their line ups a bit for Golden State who I think will take it but, maybe not?

Hard to say if they retool or not. I think they play the same starting 5, but how soon and how much Reid and Devanchenzo play might change. Alexander Walker has to get his confidence back, I expect he will play more and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see more Shannon.

When Goodell comes to the mike at the draft and people boo him, he gets a little peevish. Dude you are getting paid a crap ton of money by the owners to get booed. While he probably deserves it, the owners are the ones that are propping him up.
