Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts

Another NFL season is in the books after the Seahawks defeated the Patriots in Super Bowl LX. Final score was 29-13, but it wasn’t that close. The Seahawks defense absolutely smothered Drake Maye and destroyed the Patriots offensive line all day long, ’twas ugly. Kenneth Walker III ran over the Patriots defense, and was named the Super Bowl MVP, a rare feat for a non-QB. Congrats to Sam Darnold!

Since it was not some elaborate kidnapping plot the only reason to take the lady was to take her to an ATM and force a withdrawal.
I seems she never made it to that point. I would like to be wrong.

In 2020 they went to the Super Bowl.
In 2021 they went to the conference championship.

Why should Trump put up with people who do far worse to him?

This is from a Stanford study showing that inhibiting the protein 15-PGDH can regenerate hyaline cartilage in aged mice and human tissue samples, potentially reversing arthritis without stem cells.

The research, published in November 2025, confirms increased 15-PGDH levels with age block repair; blocking it thickened cartilage to youthful levels in trials, with an oral inhibitor now in Phase 1 for muscle weakness.

I don’t know how they block the protein. Appears to be as simple as an oral med.

Maybe I am an idiot, but I am not concerned with JJ at QB1 next year. He showed potential at the end of the season, as far as his ability to be a good QB. The injuries don’t worry me as much as it seems to bother others. The torn meniscus was a random injury, which led to the team treating him with kid gloves over his ankle injury. And the hand injury was a fluke thing as well.

He will be going into his second year of running the offense, coming into the off season healthy. He hopefully learned what it takes to take care of his body last year. Remember it was his first year of getting beat up by NFL players. There is a learning curve to how to keep your body in playing shape as well.

Actually someone really does have a good idea – KOC.
And since he is going to be calling the shots (at least to a far greater degree) we should get a much better idea of his true feelings by who he brings end. A for sure backup, or someone to compete for starting role.

I think JJ will flame out.

He is not good enough at QBing, so he will get desperate to be a gamer, which will make him run more than he should, and he will get injured. He will bounce to another team at the end of his contract. If he is good, it won’t be with the Vikings. There just isn’t enough time for him here, IMO.

Of course, that scenario also depends on him being the starter next year. I’m not sure if that will happen, depending on who they bring in. Any decent vet can probably beat him for the starter position if it is a true competition.

I completely remodeled my master bathroom a few years ago, 30 year old tile floor that was chipped and faded, I started banging it out and found that the builders used about an inch of float cement when installing the tile, busting that shit out was exhausting. After I finished I installed an engineered hardwood flooring that is supposed to be waterproof yet look luxurious, anyways after I installed it I had to actually remove over an inch off the toilet drain pipe because it stuck out of the floor as the new floor was about 1/2” vs the 1.5” of flat and tile, then put in a new flange and reset the toilet. You never know what you’re going to discover when you start remodeling, I’ve done several bathrooms and kitchens, every time I’ve come upon something unexpected, I’m just waiting for the day I find a dead hooker in the wall.

Yes, that is kind of what I run into, too. It is educational.

Since I don’t really know what I’m doing, I am just trying to survive it. I learned that I get meticulous once I know how to do something, and then the meticulousness is born out of knowing that it will save time in the long run. For now, I just proceed and hope for the best.

I had to reengineer the flange area, as well. It looked the the original builder did some modifications to get it all to fit. My version should be better, but I won’t know until that first flush.

I am putting in a tile floor. I went with 12×24 tiles. I probably should have done 12×12 for that area. Oh well, live and learn.

The grout is also way darker than expected. I video called my wife and showed her, and she was like, “Let me see that again…”

“Are you going to say you don’t like it? If so, I will NOT show you again because it is what it is…” 🙂

Yeah non square tiles are more difficult to use, especially in smaller spaces, but they will look better usually, also, darker grout in my opinion is better, no matter how light colored, they all eventually turn dark over time

also, name of my sex tape

For now, I just proceed and hope for the best.

I also didn’t get my tile overlap exactly right. It is too small. I was aware of the error as I did it, though. I just decided to do it for ease in the space.

The nice thing about tile and mortar is that it is freaking cheap if you do it yourself. The tile was like $55 and mortar is cheap, too.

If I have to do it again someday, I will only be out a couple hundred bucks and know what not to do next time.

It’s funny you mention how cheap tile is, fun fact, if you live in a metro area, go find a construction site where they’re building high density housing. You can find tons of free materials in the rolloff dumpsters, a friend of mine tiled his entire kitchen and bathroom with boxes of tiles from said dumpsters, also found the grout for free. He said he saw entire rolls of new carpet, unused new cabinets, bathroom fixtures, etc. apparently when the government subsidizes housing waste is of no consequence.

When we were repairing water damage they gutted the guest bathroom, guest bedroom and master closet, end up with a huge empty space, with a toilet sitting in the middle of it, free standing.

After 24 years of marriage (and having two toilets) we abruptly moved and for over two years had only one toilet. People frankly didn’t believe that we were living in a studio with one bathroom. My wife’s biggest complaint was everything being in one room (bed, kitchen table, kitchen, couch) when people visited. Whereas my biggest complaint was the toilet situation. Never failed that when I had to do business that I couldn’t step outside to take care of, that she was in there brushing her teeth, or using the toilet, or looking for something in a cupboard. Then, once I sat down, she had to come in and “quick grab” something.

If you know, you know.

NO toilet? No thanks.

Once you set the flange, can’t you mount the toilet? Of course you caulk the flange but surely it is bolted to the floor?

Theoretically, I could mount the toilet tonight. I wanted to give the pipe cement some time to try before I used it, though, so I thought I’d just prep it all and reset the toilet tomorrow at my leisure.

Researching the matter, I guess you only have to wait about 2 hours after cementing on a toilet, though. Since it is a gravity drain, it is not that critical of a joint. So maybe I will do it tonight yet.

QB realistic wish list (no Joe Burrow)

  1. Mac Jones – 49ers need a WR – send Adison for Jones and let him compete with JJ.
  2. Carson Wentz – did ok for just getting here, played hurt, would be ok with the backup slot, cheap.
  3. Kirk Cousins – most prolific passer in QB history – would bring some drama though, would not be content as a back up.

Fine with any of those. Also, eff drama. If Kirko returns he will be the starter until JJ figures things out. Could be 3 years or more. My issue is the cost of Kirko and his contract.

Mac Jones also thinks he deserves starter money.

My guess is the team will go cheap again, roll with JJ and hope for the best. When McFragile stubs his toe and misses 7 weeks the backup will be exposed as shitty again.

Does it mean the first $10M is covered by the Falcons?
And then we pay whatever is left?
If he comes in at $20M would it cost us $10M in Cap??

Not as I understand it. The offset benefits the Falcons. If the Falcons release Cousins, the $10M owed is reduced, or “offset,” by the amount he earns on a new contract with another team in 2026. $10M is the most the Falcons could benefit from Cousins new contract with another team, and this is just cap space, not actual dollars.

This structure allows the Falcons to potentially mitigate the dead cap hit if they release him and he signs elsewhere, with estimates it could drop their 2026 burden to $12.5M.

Cousins will likely retire IMO. I think he’ll be in a broadcast booth, or potentially replace Terry Bradshaw on the Fox Sunday Football pre-game show.

He’s not interested in going to a losing organization, and the Vikings don’t have enough cap space to bring him in. They’re approx $45M in the hole to start the 2026 season, so yeah… Cousins isn’t gonna be coming back.

I laugh when I hear this commentary. “We can get under the cap easy”. Yes we can, but you need to get to about +$45M or more to the good to be viable. So really we’re like $90M to $100M from being in a good place against the cap. I expect we’ll be cutting a lot of players to get ourselves solvent. Our contracts are mostly salary based, so that’s good. Cutting players doesn’t leave a lot of guaranteed money on the table, and against the cap. But yeah… we’re not in a good position.

Wentz was moderately ok before injury last year, could do a lot worser at backup (cough brosmer cough) but could do better as well. JJ played a lot better last season after coming back from his last injury but of course got injured again and that’s the biggest problem with him, he’s not going to develop sitting in the training room.

Good morning all. It’s 58 degrees here, and sunny. Expecting a high of 75 today.

Our smoke detectors started chirping about a week ago, and my wife changed the batteries in them, as one by one they all started to chirp. After several days, they were all chirping, and she was really annoyed (as was I). I got the ladder and climbed up to look at one and she had the batteries in backward. I switched them, but the detector kept chirping… hmmm. I noted that they were all hard wired, and seemed to be networked together. I went through each one, checking the batteries. Some were right, some were wrong. After I finished, they were all still chirping. I went into the garage, and turned the breaker off. I waited a minute, then flipped it back on. The chirping came back. I looked online for a solution. I found out that after you change the batteries you have to hold the reset button down for 15 to 30 seconds. So, one by one, I took the batteries out, reinstalled them, then held the reset button down. And sure enough, one by one, they all stopped chirping.

I saw that Stephen A. Smith railed on the Vikings for ditching Darnold and handing the reins to McCarthy. Said something like “they wasted a year” by doing that. Lots of fans seemed to be totally fine with having a bad season as long as McCarthy was the starter though. At least that’s what they said. “Yeah, let him develop”. “He has to play so we can see what he’s got”.

This is a conscious choice. This is how fans think. Play a 22 year old as the starter on an NFL franchise, to see what he’s got. History and football knowledge tells us it’s almost always going to be bad that first year. Caleb was bad, Lawrence was bad, Young was bad, Ward was bad, Manning was bad, Allen was bad, etc, etc, etc. So when you bring in a rookie, don’t expect the offense to be better. Don’t expect a college kid to come to the NFL and be great right off the bat. Not even good actually. They are almost universally bad coming out of the gate. Don’t crow about a rookie QB, till they show they have what it takes to run an NFL offense consistently well.

I do. I think I could get away without it in snack sticks and such because I smoke them at a pretty low temp. I’ve used regular cheese in brats before though and by the time they are cooked there’s no cheese left if you make a raw brat to throw on the grill. It is a little spendy, but I think it’s worth it and you can buy 1 pound packs at Scheels now for like 10 bucks. If you order 5 pound packs it is a little cheaper, but then you have 5 pounds of high temp cheese. I made some pork brats this summer with the tomato basil and added high temp mozzarella. Those turned out awesome. I was worried about the chicken brats getting to dry. I used a binder and instead of water I added tomato juice for more flavor since there’s no fat in them.

Because it’s likely. QB’s in their second year in an offense are almost always much better. NFL offenses are complex, and mastering them takes time. Tom Brady had three OC’s in 20 years with the Patriots, and one for his last eight years there. He would run two minute drills in training camp on day one, instructing everyone on what he wanted. This effect wasn’t just felt by the QB though. The veteran players on the offense all benefitted. Darnold in his second year with the Vikings would have probably been in the MVP race.

I personally thought we should have kept Sam. There were folks here squealing about his performances in a few games. They incorrectly pushed a narrative that a few bad games showed he was terrible. I highlighted this faulty logic many, many times.

I believe the folks in the front office here got sucked into what we called in the business world, “group think.”
Cousins threw for 4000 yards and 30 plus TD.s. We got Sam off the street and he throws for 4000 yards and 30 plus TD.s
So, we can put anyone back there and get similar results – we have the receivers and coaching and all of that.
WRONG!

I’m not going to come across like Nostradumbass, or at least try not to, but I was very much pro Darnold and wondered out loud (on here) how the Vikings could not sign him after his performance. The whole offseason handling of the QB situation was mystifying to me and still is. I think the organizational leadership needs to be taken down to the studs…if my fandom could be measured on a scale from 1 to 10 with 1 being darn near ready to be done with them it is a 1 right now, yet the day of the week 17 game against Detroit for the first round bye I was between 9 and 10. I think we are practically doomed to be in this marginally competitive rut for a decade or more if there isn’t a shake up. I’m not the guy that says give up on your rookie QB after two bad seasons but this is different, the organization put him in the position and he has played 25% of the games he was drafted to be QB2/QB1 for…I am less excited about the QB position than during the Ponder era.

I have heard Geno Smith’s name. Fudge. The guy the Hawks cast away to get a real QB…that bird that we had in the hand.

My point is, the Vikings would not have won the super bowl even with Sam. 30 million more means Kwesi would have sucked even more with the free agency last season.

I still understand letting Sam walk. He absolutely sucked in 5 games last season.

Good for Sam for getting a trophy. Too bad Kirko never went to a team with a great defense

He could have gotten us to the playoffs again, only to shit his pants when it mattered. He could have gotten hurt.

It’s really not hindsight.
Sam threw for 4000 yards and 35 TD’s – that’s pretty good in this league with any team at any time. True, had some poor games.
But people forget Sam is still in his 20’s, not old like Cousins. He could still grow and you cold build a franchise around him.
That’s not really wishful thinking. More like ‘business’ thinkikng about a bird in hand.

He only threw 25 TDs not 35, also led the league in turnovers, including 14 picks, which is less that a 2:1 ratio, which is generally considered average for an NFL QB, so he was actually below average. 4k yards really isn’t that big of deal in todays nfl with the rule changes and a 17 game schedule. Let’s not pretend Darnold is somehow the second coming of Tom Brady, he played fairly well for a loaded team and managed not to fuck up the SB. I like Sam, but the knob gobbling is getting to be a bit much.

Correct, he should have brought back Sam or Jones or gotten someone more capable to push JJ, instead he traded for Sam Howell, who is terrible, so he hastily signed Wentz right before the season, who was not particularly good and got injured. I didn’t really care if the Vikings brought back Sam specifically, but thought they needed him or Jones back. we’ll see what they do sans KAM because it’s 100% on KOC now at the QB position

Well, he had the best receiving corps he ever had, and KOC likes to take shots downfield. Sam has always had a really good arm. His problem was mostly between his ears. I think he could have probably put up another 35 this year. The offense has matured now with the same play caller for 4 seasons. That’s huge. The first year, the offense is getting its feet wet. The second year it starts to gel. The third year, it should start producing consistently. The 4th year? Should be rolling.

No, Sam played way more good games than bad last year by far, but of course you take the few bad instances as your basis for condemning him. One bad play, one bad game, then he sucks, and he’s always going to suck. No matter that the vast majority of the time he played well, you decide nope… he’s not good. The logical conclusion should have been “Sam showed a lot this year, and next year in a second go round in this offense, he should grow and be even better”. That actually IS a logical take. Your take is he’ll probably be worse, and he’ll never be good in the playoffs. That is not logical at all. We all hope/expect even McCarthy will be better next year. But Sam? Nope, bound to be worse in your mind.

Based on the reviews here and elsewhere, sounds like the old adage “Defense wins championships” held in the playoffs. Therefore, my wish list looks something like:

  1. Vikings draft defense defense defense. Magically hit on all picks.
  2. KOC hires an OC to take over playcalling. Two reasons, one he can focus on being HC, and two someone else develops a playbook. That way when KOC gets fired mid season there is someone available to call plays, instead of a stopgap “gee the TE coach might understand some plays”.
  3. Justin Jefferson gets traded. Probably worth less than last year given lukewarm performance but I think he still has significant value, plus unlike last year his cap hit is more manageable. This team is winning nothing with him taking a big portion of the cap and as he ages his net value diminishes relative to a couple of young bucks.
  4. Vikings somehow avoid the trap they have gotten in last three seasons of being in marginal FG range on 3rd and long and instead of going for a high percentage short gain pass or run they run a developing play ending in sack and lost points.
  5. Win as few games as possible to optimize draft position. I know y’all just want them to win win win but this team could no more compete in the playoffs with the current defense than the Raiders (I shouldn’t pick on them, I like the Raiders, so just insert the name of a suitable team here). See #1, maybe we get lucky and the defensive rookies put on a show.
  6. McFragile™ continues his trend of availability and mensa level processing making the decision for the organization easy at end of his third year. Signing him to a LT guaranteed contract for big $$$ would be so Vikings, so I wish it NOT so.

The SB was interesting and I think KOC could learn some from it.
Those defenses were fierce and really getting after the QB. Then they were smothering all the short routes cause they knew the QB didn’t have time. Really tough situation for the QB’s and the passing games.
Under these circumstances, you HAVE to be able to run the ball.
And of course, long developing pass routes are worthless.

Our O Line cannot run block or pass protect against that defense of Seattle.
Sam went to a perfect situation, just like Brad Johnson years ago.

I had no issue with letting Sam walk after the terrible games vs the Rams, Seattle, and Detroit last season.

Kwesi failed to bring in a competent backup. That plus the underwhelming performance by the interior line free agents last year were very good reasons to fire him.

Two guys grinding doesn’t bother me at all. That means less competition for the limited pool of women that would be with me.

Starting to see some very different numbers on the halftime show last night. Gonna wait till the dust settles on this. Some very skewed perspectives are out there.

I didn’t watch the half time show as I was busy with other stuff, plus even if I wasn’t busy, I’m sure I wouldn’t have watched it as I haven’t watch any halftime show in years. I have not read any reviews, but the Yahoo headlines are praising it. I’m sure there are quite a few different perspectives on it.

If you lean that way, you loved it. If you don’t, you hated it.

There, summarized the next few days of news for everyone. You just gained more time for your week to do meaningful stuff.

Second most watched halftime show in history, only behind the Lamar Kendrick one. Kid rock and the no name crew not even close.

As I said, I’m seeing a lot of different numbers being represented differently. Some folks claiming it was the most watched show based on the Global broadcast numbers, which do not account for fans who tuned out and didn’t watch the halftime show. Some estimates of the alternate show exceed 35 million viewers.

Personally I think this guy is a disgusting POS so I would never watch any show he participates in. Just me though.

That doesn’t matter to the Woke/Dims/Libs/TDS sufferers. As long he is anti Trump then he is a hero.

Pretty strong opinion about a guy you know nothing about. Be real, you only hate on him because he’s anti orange man.

He’s anti American and anti law enforcement. He’s quite vile if you know what his Spanish lyrics actually say, and I don’t think his act is suitable for our children to be exposed to. So think what you want, he’s a POS with no business being promoted on an International stage in our biggest National sporting event. Fuck him.

From what I’ve read, even people who know Spanish couldn’t understand a lot of what he was saying last night.

Puerto Rican Spanish is a different dialect then Mexican or Tex-Mex or any other version of Spanish.

Georgian English is a different dialect the Montana English and I can still understand them, same goes for Irish, Scotland, etc. I even saw people who said they were Puerto Rican that said they couldn’t understand him.

There are levels of dialect that are easier to understand than others. They all take some getting used to.
Singing can also lead to some misunderstandings as words are manipulated to fit the music.
Together they make it more challenging. In the Army we had native Spanish speakers who could understand PR Spanish and some who said that they could not.

My friends from Puerto Rico argue otherwise. They understand his lyrics. He does include words that are slurred, or mispronounced or whatever, as do lots of songs. Listen to some John Fogarty and CCR. Still most of his lyrics are clear to them.

I know English and still have a hard time understanding a lot of song lyrics. I think it’s probably common for a lot of people.

Have you ever listened to some of kid rocks lyrics. One of his songs, I think called “cool daddy cool” has lyrics like this…..I like em young/some call it statutory/I call it mandatory….and so on. This guy was the lead act on the TP USA halftime show that promoted, faith, freedom and family.

That song was from the movie Osmosis Jones 25 years ago. Since then, Kid Rock has found Christianity and is a completely different person.

Sammy won. The Vikings’ failure is complete.

I thought he played pretty well. The defenses were tough. Sammy did a good job not losing the game, avoiding sacks, getting rid of the ball and the capitalizing when the opportunity to ice the game presented itself.

It’s like Sammy learned after what happened in the Lions and Rams games last season…

So it’s usually the team that makes the least mistakes that ends up on top in the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Don’t take big sacks, don’t fumble, and don’t throw interceptions, are the rules to live by for QB’s.

Looks like Hun and SoCal had quite the time last night. According to Hun, Sam Darnold won a Super Bowl I believe.

Will be interesting to see if the viewership waned all that significantly. They might not even report it though.

I like Hun, mostly we had a good time.
By the end he was dealing with his local teams loss and demotion and Sams win. Plus of course he was a bit drunk. No point in discussing stuff with a drunk, I learned that with my own father. Almost as bad as discussing politics with a TDS sufferer.
I bowed out as gracefully as I could.

I might have mentioned a few times that Sam Darnold won a Superbowl, right… sorry about that.

As Wrenage put it somewhere above, “The Vikings’ failure is complete”. Yes, it indeed is. I don’t trust this organization any more to ever being able to identify all the right peaces at the right time to win a Superbowl. They hired Kwesi, for Pete’s sake…

Be that as it may, I apologize for being a nuisance at the end there yesterday. Have a fine day, mate.

Not a problem. Fan is short for Fanatic after all.
You do your fandom in the way that works for you.

I avoid Drunk Fandom as I avoid drunk anything else but that due to my own personal history.

I didn’t watch the game, but per no finer a source than “Alexa”, viewership set a record, 135 million US viewers. That’s a lot.
