Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
Another NFL season is in the books after the Seahawks defeated the Patriots in Super Bowl LX. Final score was 29-13, but it wasn’t that close. The Seahawks defense absolutely smothered Drake Maye and destroyed the Patriots offensive line all day long, ’twas ugly. Kenneth Walker III ran over the Patriots defense, and was named the Super Bowl MVP, a rare feat for a non-QB. Congrats to Sam Darnold!

Hmmmmm
The Ring Video was the break that they needed.
I suspect that they will find the body soon.
RIP, go with God.
I feel this may very well be the case, sadly. Praying for a miracle.
Since it was not some elaborate kidnapping plot the only reason to take the lady was to take her to an ATM and force a withdrawal.
I seems she never made it to that point. I would like to be wrong.
Yes, that would be logical. I fear she never made it to that ATM and has been deceased since the night she was abducted.
Did I miss anything the last 2 days?
I didn’t think so.
Hey VP… looks like frozen concentrated orange juice futures are hot…
Somethings afoot…
More of an ‘in case’ they are needed type of thing I suspect.
Man, 328 post for a Tuesday is pretty good – and it’s off season.
Monday/Tuesday
We’re in a time warp around here. What day do you want it to be.
Lets keep it going tomorrow!
The 2020 Chiefs we’re -$99 million in cap space.
In 2020 they went to the Super Bowl.
In 2021 they went to the conference championship.
Not sure how this is possible.
Vikings are doomed!
How possible? Maybe because they have the greatest QB to ever play and an all world coach.
Trump is such a child.
Trump reportedly snubs Democratic governors from White House meeting | Fox News
If you recall, last year he had this meeting and the Dem Governor’s went out of their way to be insulting, combative, and disruptive. They were trying to garner as much “on camera time” to denigrate Trump as they could.
Why bring them back?
LOL….
But cheering on attempted assassinations and actual murder is no biggie?
Nodak, I get that people don’t like Trumps demeanor, but dems and the media act far more like children. So I can see why Trump disinvited them.
Why should Trump put up with people who do far worse to him?
Would you invite a neighbor into your house who craps on you?
Regrowing cartilage is possible according to this. Game changer for older folks with arthritis and knee issues.
a 6 second video is the breakdown of this technology? What exactly happens? Is it like microfracture surgery? I’ve had that, it wasn’t fun.
This is from a Stanford study showing that inhibiting the protein 15-PGDH can regenerate hyaline cartilage in aged mice and human tissue samples, potentially reversing arthritis without stem cells.
The research, published in November 2025, confirms increased 15-PGDH levels with age block repair; blocking it thickened cartilage to youthful levels in trials, with an oral inhibitor now in Phase 1 for muscle weakness.
I don’t know how they block the protein. Appears to be as simple as an oral med.
Well shit, sign me up
Exciting times. Cartilage repair and arthritis treatment that actually works? No more hip and knee replacement surgeries? Yes please.
@I’m sure there will be no side effects.@
Damn, that’s about 6 years too late for my knee.
Now, I have a shoulder that will be a candidate for this treatment in the near future.
Yeah, saw that report the other day.

Yeah.
Just about every FA QB will be a potential Vikings QB over the next 6 months.
Maybe I am an idiot, but I am not concerned with JJ at QB1 next year. He showed potential at the end of the season, as far as his ability to be a good QB. The injuries don’t worry me as much as it seems to bother others. The torn meniscus was a random injury, which led to the team treating him with kid gloves over his ankle injury. And the hand injury was a fluke thing as well.
He will be going into his second year of running the offense, coming into the off season healthy. He hopefully learned what it takes to take care of his body last year. Remember it was his first year of getting beat up by NFL players. There is a learning curve to how to keep your body in playing shape as well.
Finally, somebody with some patience. JJ will be fine.
#nojinx
I agree with all of this.
Still think they need to (and will) bring in a vet for him to compete with. I think he’ll have to earn the gig in camp – and that’s a good thing, iron sharpening iron and all.
i’m only concerned with his ability to stay healthy.
so far, he has shown he can not do this.
You may be an idiot, but you’re not wrong
You’re not an idiot – a reasonable take. But, one could make a reasonable take the other way. Who knows?
Actually someone really does have a good idea – KOC.
And since he is going to be calling the shots (at least to a far greater degree) we should get a much better idea of his true feelings by who he brings end. A for sure backup, or someone to compete for starting role.
Regardless of what they do with JJ, the Vikings need at a minimum, a capable backup that can actually play the game of football
You are not an idiot.
But the everything will be fine take is misguided imo.
Two years. Injuries galore.
We can’t trust his health.
We need a solid veteran on the roster.
False, every Viking fan is, especially freezy
Well true.
JV is just not an extra idiot.
Hold my beer
I think JJ will flame out.
He is not good enough at QBing, so he will get desperate to be a gamer, which will make him run more than he should, and he will get injured. He will bounce to another team at the end of his contract. If he is good, it won’t be with the Vikings. There just isn’t enough time for him here, IMO.
Of course, that scenario also depends on him being the starter next year. I’m not sure if that will happen, depending on who they bring in. Any decent vet can probably beat him for the starter position if it is a true competition.
At least you made me grin today. We’re talking about the small framed feller that took on a linebacker on a sideline run. A linebacker…whose major job description is to tackle a 250 pound brick shithouse running back coming at full speed. Genius.
Let’s all get ready for the big money deal we’ll give him at the end of the season after he manages to start 65% of his games.
Well you can tell the offseason has started.
A Niner defensive lineman was shot in the foot from an altercation.
A Falcon defensive lineman rammed his girl friend’s car and then it took eight police officers to arrest him.
Stay tuned.
Wait till Diggs gets into an altercation with his girlfriend… again.
Or what will Addison be up to next. Usually, a car is involved.
I must have missed that, what did he do, Ray rice her?
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47454989/patriots-stefon-diggs-faces-strangulation-assault-charges
Well, I mean innocent until proven guilty, but doesn’t look good
Seems like a clear he said/she said case. it will probably get thrown out or settled and there will be no consequences for Diggs.
‘no consequences for Diggs’
Other than the cost of the ‘settlement’.
Probably not much more than what he would have had to pay her for her services.
Diggs didn’t wait for the season to be over. Reportedly got into a fight with his baby momma at the Super Bowl.
He’s an overachiever…
What will Addison do this offseason?
DUI?
Speed?
Trespassing?
Domestic Assault?
Yes, is my guess.
I’m going with public indecency, he will get caught peeing in public
He seems like more of an idiot than someone who will get in a fight. I’m guessing more drinking.
Will be able to resign him for the vet minimum at that point.
Agreed.
He is too small.
He would be stupid to get into a fight with another man.
A woman though????
I love Mission BBQ. We have one less than a mile away. Great food, and they absolutely support our active duty and retired military to the max.
No Woke/Dim/Lefty protesters/agitators?
Florida is either ‘Gods Country’ or the Dims haven’t found out about them yet.
Oh, there’s Libs here, plenty. But there’s just a hell of a lot more conservatives.
Oh we have lots of lefties trying to get in and take over… but the State is too heavily red. We’re finding corrupt Dems every day now, that we’re weeding out.
Know you lived in Virginia for a long time.
This reminds me of the Vienna Inn. Ever go there?
Every night at midnight. when everyone has had more than a few, they play the Anthem and everyone sings. Pretty neat.
Wow… that’s a long way back. Yes, we used to get chili dogs there… I lived in Vienna back in the mid 70’s. I don’t recall them singing the National Anthem, but I don’t think I was ever there at midnight either.
Funny you mention the chili dogs – the best. Folks you to say they were so good because they dropped them on the floor and the sawdust added. to the flavor. But then, no one went there for the food.
What was so neat there, you could see the CEO of like Microstrategy sitting at the bar in a $500 dollar suit right next to a plumber talking up the Redskins. All walks of life and everyone was the same.
True… it was definitely a simple place everyone frequented.
I am trying to remodel the bathroom and am currently without a toilet. I only have one toilet in my domicile.
The thin line between society and chaos is a toilet bowl.
At least my wife is gone visiting family. She would have turned feral by now.
That is a really dire situation… hopefully it is resolved before anything catastrophic occurs.
I do not consider myself a handy person, so it is an adventure. I am trying to do it in small chunks. Tonight’s goal is to get the flange all set and prepped. Once I get past the toilet, things will look better. I can live without a vanity much easier.
I completely remodeled my master bathroom a few years ago, 30 year old tile floor that was chipped and faded, I started banging it out and found that the builders used about an inch of float cement when installing the tile, busting that shit out was exhausting. After I finished I installed an engineered hardwood flooring that is supposed to be waterproof yet look luxurious, anyways after I installed it I had to actually remove over an inch off the toilet drain pipe because it stuck out of the floor as the new floor was about 1/2” vs the 1.5” of flat and tile, then put in a new flange and reset the toilet. You never know what you’re going to discover when you start remodeling, I’ve done several bathrooms and kitchens, every time I’ve come upon something unexpected, I’m just waiting for the day I find a dead hooker in the wall.
Yes, that is kind of what I run into, too. It is educational.
Since I don’t really know what I’m doing, I am just trying to survive it. I learned that I get meticulous once I know how to do something, and then the meticulousness is born out of knowing that it will save time in the long run. For now, I just proceed and hope for the best.
I had to reengineer the flange area, as well. It looked the the original builder did some modifications to get it all to fit. My version should be better, but I won’t know until that first flush.
I am putting in a tile floor. I went with 12×24 tiles. I probably should have done 12×12 for that area. Oh well, live and learn.
The grout is also way darker than expected. I video called my wife and showed her, and she was like, “Let me see that again…”
“Are you going to say you don’t like it? If so, I will NOT show you again because it is what it is…” 🙂
Yeah non square tiles are more difficult to use, especially in smaller spaces, but they will look better usually, also, darker grout in my opinion is better, no matter how light colored, they all eventually turn dark over time
also, name of my sex tape
I also didn’t get my tile overlap exactly right. It is too small. I was aware of the error as I did it, though. I just decided to do it for ease in the space.
The nice thing about tile and mortar is that it is freaking cheap if you do it yourself. The tile was like $55 and mortar is cheap, too.
If I have to do it again someday, I will only be out a couple hundred bucks and know what not to do next time.
It’s funny you mention how cheap tile is, fun fact, if you live in a metro area, go find a construction site where they’re building high density housing. You can find tons of free materials in the rolloff dumpsters, a friend of mine tiled his entire kitchen and bathroom with boxes of tiles from said dumpsters, also found the grout for free. He said he saw entire rolls of new carpet, unused new cabinets, bathroom fixtures, etc. apparently when the government subsidizes housing waste is of no consequence.
That’s crazy.
There is also expensive tile that my wife discovered. She picked out a tile, and I totaled up the square footage and showed her the price.
“$13,000”
She had picked out something that was like $200 a square foot.
Well your wife hs good taste. She picked you after all.
I caught her in a desperate moment!
when the government…waste is of no consequence. fify
When we were repairing water damage they gutted the guest bathroom, guest bedroom and master closet, end up with a huge empty space, with a toilet sitting in the middle of it, free standing.
The Teacher wouldn’t go near it of course so I used it when she was in the master bath or sleeping. Glad the Army taught me to handel situations like that in stride.
Get her one of these for Valentine’s Day!
Loveseat Toilets?
That is probably something that I didn’t every think I would see/need.
I am also a pretty private bathroom person. I would likely prefer simply going in my pants rather than be in a toilet loveseat.
When I first joined the Army in ’76 they put a bunch of us in an old barracks to process at Ft Lenard Wood. There were about 60 of us and the barracks had 4 toilets with no stalls around them.
We learned to adapt for the most part, some easier than others. A few waited until the middle of the night when no one else was awake (other than the ‘fire guard’ of course).
I probably would have had a harder time with that than PT.
Victoria Jackson was one of my favorites from back in the 90s, love nealon too
Victoria was a cutie. She is also pretty based.
She has cancer pretty bad now, I think.
I did not know about the cancer, that is sad. I remember reading few years ago what she was doing after snl, one of those random pop ups of where are they now? and the internet told me she married a SWAT team officer and kind of left the limelight.
After 24 years of marriage (and having two toilets) we abruptly moved and for over two years had only one toilet. People frankly didn’t believe that we were living in a studio with one bathroom. My wife’s biggest complaint was everything being in one room (bed, kitchen table, kitchen, couch) when people visited. Whereas my biggest complaint was the toilet situation. Never failed that when I had to do business that I couldn’t step outside to take care of, that she was in there brushing her teeth, or using the toilet, or looking for something in a cupboard. Then, once I sat down, she had to come in and “quick grab” something.
If you know, you know.
NO toilet? No thanks.
Once you set the flange, can’t you mount the toilet? Of course you caulk the flange but surely it is bolted to the floor?
The quick grab, no matter where you are or what you’re doing, if you’re trying to do something alone your wife inevitably has to come in to “grab something real quick”
Theoretically, I could mount the toilet tonight. I wanted to give the pipe cement some time to try before I used it, though, so I thought I’d just prep it all and reset the toilet tomorrow at my leisure.
Researching the matter, I guess you only have to wait about 2 hours after cementing on a toilet, though. Since it is a gravity drain, it is not that critical of a joint. So maybe I will do it tonight yet.
Where I live, I could potentially just go out and pop a squat without fear of horrifying the neighbors, although the leaves are all frozen. Might be more of an issue for you depending on how close your neighbors are.
A handful of snow is just a Montana bidet.
QB realistic wish list (no Joe Burrow)
Fine with any of those. Also, eff drama. If Kirko returns he will be the starter until JJ figures things out. Could be 3 years or more. My issue is the cost of Kirko and his contract.
Mac Jones also thinks he deserves starter money.
My guess is the team will go cheap again, roll with JJ and hope for the best. When McFragile stubs his toe and misses 7 weeks the backup will be exposed as shitty again.
As I understand it KC will cut/waived with the new NFL year so his contract will not come with him. He will cost whatever the Vikings and he agree to and their is reportedly $10 in ‘offset money’ involved as well.
10$ is a deal breaker.
I am not sure how the ‘offset’ works. I forget things easily lately, I blame
Does it mean the first $10M is covered by the Falcons?
And then we pay whatever is left?
If he comes in at $20M would it cost us $10M in Cap??
Not as I understand it. The offset benefits the Falcons. If the Falcons release Cousins, the $10M owed is reduced, or “offset,” by the amount he earns on a new contract with another team in 2026. $10M is the most the Falcons could benefit from Cousins new contract with another team, and this is just cap space, not actual dollars.
This structure allows the Falcons to potentially mitigate the dead cap hit if they release him and he signs elsewhere, with estimates it could drop their 2026 burden to $12.5M.
So it would not benefit us in the least sounds like, bother.
Unless of course KC would be willing to accept less in order to keep Atlanta on the hook, but that is not his MO.
Cousins will likely retire IMO. I think he’ll be in a broadcast booth, or potentially replace Terry Bradshaw on the Fox Sunday Football pre-game show.
He’s not interested in going to a losing organization, and the Vikings don’t have enough cap space to bring him in. They’re approx $45M in the hole to start the 2026 season, so yeah… Cousins isn’t gonna be coming back.
Na, my read he’ll play. And I would opine at a pretty low price after the Falcons cut him.
Now, he won’t play just anywhere, but he would play for KOC.
I think we’re going to find that the organization is committed to McCarthy, and they won’t bring in anyone who “threatens” his starter status.
Well, he would be insane to come here and play behind our oft injured and leaky OL.
Why, he played behind our crappy lines for years. He’s used to it.
I guess if he wants to go out like Lindsey Vonn more power to him. Enjoy living your life in constant pain from that moment forward.
You mean with pictures of his used up private parts posted on the Internet?
Vikings can get under the cap easy, question is more of, will cousins play for something like Rodgers did last year, which was under 20 mil, and will he sign with no guarantee he will be the starter
I laugh when I hear this commentary. “We can get under the cap easy”. Yes we can, but you need to get to about +$45M or more to the good to be viable. So really we’re like $90M to $100M from being in a good place against the cap. I expect we’ll be cutting a lot of players to get ourselves solvent. Our contracts are mostly salary based, so that’s good. Cutting players doesn’t leave a lot of guaranteed money on the table, and against the cap. But yeah… we’re not in a good position.
They’ll cut a few players, most likely restructure and/or extend even more
Of course they will. There is no other choice BUT to do that. That said, you pay your best players the most money. Sooo… there is going to be an effect.
So like every other year?
Yes, like every other year, though this year they don’t have a GM, so I’ll be curious how they do it
They may not have a GM, but they have the same guy that has dealt with the salary cap issue for the last 15 years.
That hole will be removed before any transactions begin.
So it’s really not an issue after March 13th.
It’s an issue DE as much as you act like it’s not. As I said, just getting that $45M managed gets you to $0. You need a lot more than $0 to sign players.
Mac Jones and Kirk could beat JJ out fairly easily, methinks.
Not sure about Wentz. Wentz feels like he is winding down to stop fairly quickly.
Wentz was moderately ok before injury last year, could do a lot worser at backup (cough brosmer cough) but could do better as well. JJ played a lot better last season after coming back from his last injury but of course got injured again and that’s the biggest problem with him, he’s not going to develop sitting in the training room.
Good morning all. It’s 58 degrees here, and sunny. Expecting a high of 75 today.
Our smoke detectors started chirping about a week ago, and my wife changed the batteries in them, as one by one they all started to chirp. After several days, they were all chirping, and she was really annoyed (as was I). I got the ladder and climbed up to look at one and she had the batteries in backward. I switched them, but the detector kept chirping… hmmm. I noted that they were all hard wired, and seemed to be networked together. I went through each one, checking the batteries. Some were right, some were wrong. After I finished, they were all still chirping. I went into the garage, and turned the breaker off. I waited a minute, then flipped it back on. The chirping came back. I looked online for a solution. I found out that after you change the batteries you have to hold the reset button down for 15 to 30 seconds. So, one by one, I took the batteries out, reinstalled them, then held the reset button down. And sure enough, one by one, they all stopped chirping.
I hate those things. Usually one will start chirping at about 2 am.
We had to buy a 10′ ladder for one detector as it is located up in a vaulted ceiling that my 6′ ladder couldn’t reach.
You could just imagine some workman snickering when he installed that one.
Yep… I have three ladders. A 4 ft, a 6 ft, and a 10 ft.
I had a 4ft step ladder that stays in the kitchen, had a 6 footer for all other needs. And now i have my 10 footer for the one smoke detector.
Thought of returning it once I replaced the battery but figured if I did then I would have some emergency repair that required it soon afterwards.
Karma is a Bitch after all.
Should just get a little giant, I think mine goes up to 20’
For years that was my only ladder, now I haven’t used it for at least three years. Had a habit of getting my fingers pinched in between rungs when folding it up, heavy to lug around and position, etc…
All my go to ladders are fiberglass. Even the 22′ extension ladder is easier to carry than that little giant.
Mine is pretty light, it’s completely aluminum but I have also pinched my fingers in that sumbitch and that is not fun
Those African Ceiling Birds are fickle creatures.
I went with the models that have 10 year batteries. Once dead, replace them all.
Did that last summer and I really hope to be living elsewhere before the batteries go.
That actually sounds like a good solution Surly. Like it.
We changed all of them out once the chirping started, except for the high one, it didn’t start with the rest of them and we didn’t have the taller ladder yet.
FWIW it is code to hard wire smoke detectors and interconnect them in new construction.
That is what I had done. 10 year battery backup, but all are interconnected and hardwired. I am exactly lazy enough that I paid an electrician to do it.
I replaced a bunch of mine a while ago, most common problem with them is after 7+ years they typically end up with a lot of spiderwebs and dust inside them and even after replacing batteries sometimes they still chirp unless you take it apart and clean that stuff out.
I saw that Stephen A. Smith railed on the Vikings for ditching Darnold and handing the reins to McCarthy. Said something like “they wasted a year” by doing that. Lots of fans seemed to be totally fine with having a bad season as long as McCarthy was the starter though. At least that’s what they said. “Yeah, let him develop”. “He has to play so we can see what he’s got”.
This is a conscious choice. This is how fans think. Play a 22 year old as the starter on an NFL franchise, to see what he’s got. History and football knowledge tells us it’s almost always going to be bad that first year. Caleb was bad, Lawrence was bad, Young was bad, Ward was bad, Manning was bad, Allen was bad, etc, etc, etc. So when you bring in a rookie, don’t expect the offense to be better. Don’t expect a college kid to come to the NFL and be great right off the bat. Not even good actually. They are almost universally bad coming out of the gate. Don’t crow about a rookie QB, till they show they have what it takes to run an NFL offense consistently well.
Stephen a Smith also trashed Darnold after last season
He did. He’s always thrown down on athletes to discredit them, regardless of sport. Kind of his schtick. He did apologize for “being wrong” about Darnold though. That said, yeah, a little rich he criticizes the Vikings for “ditching” a guy he was very critical of last year. Good point.
And now he’s a political hack too.
Yeah, last year after Kamala bombed so bad, folks mentioned him as a possible Presidential candidate. His initial response was that was ridiculous. He said he was a sports analyst and had zero qualifications to the President of the United States. Now, even though he still is completely unqualified (nothings changed) he is pushing narratives out there and presenting himself more and more as a politician.
The Dems could just be stupid enough to try and elect him.
Yeah I just can’t stand him or that skip guy, they both suck
I honestly have never watched either one of them. Ever. I see snippets of his comments on Twitter… but I see him as just a guy who has this angry scowl schtick that he’s used to rise to some sort of celebrity status.
I’m kinda over watching the Guthrie spectacle but I cannot wrap my head around how you could receive $6 large in crypto and cash it without being instantly identified as the kidnapper.
FWIW I believe she is gone but I am a pessimist.
I don’t know how crypto currencies and crypto “wallets” work, but I do know you can send e-mails in a way that they aren’t traceable. I heard once the ransom is paid in Bitcoin, it’s gone. Untraceable, and unrecoverable. Again, not sure how that works.
The crypto play was by somebody not associated with the kidnapping.
He was just trying to cash in with the hopes of stealing money.
The whole situation is kinda odd imo.
Oh yeah, she didn’t live past last Sunday night.
Have to admit I am as well. Asked AI to explain crypto to me from start to finish, still don’t get it.
I thought Woodie Guthrie was dead
The state of California should just be shut down period.
Total crap.
But then Libs screwing Libs is OK. I just don’t know which guys are Lib.
This would apply to every Seahawks player, not just Darnold.
From a viral post on social media:
I remember when SB parties were fun, like when the giants beat the patriots both times, or when the patriots came back to beat Atlanta, it was just about football, beer, about 15 different cheese dips, grilled dead animal, and chili. Last I went to was a few years ago and discussion devolved into politics and social justice nonsense.
Don’t know if one of you fine lads posted this before but I just learned Slinging Sammy Darnold’s grandfather was one of the marlboro men Dick Hammer. Not a porn name just an actor
Read that last week.
best name ever
‘Dick Hammer’
That would have been an excellent Porn Name.
May have to use that for my next film.
#grin
I read that too, that is the greatest name in the history of the world
Think it’s obvious Vikes bring in a Vet QB next year to compete/bolster the QB room.
Who ya got? Who ya want?
That’s exactly what I was thinking.
Jones is really the only one I’d be interested in, but he’s coming off major injury, the colts were really stupid to put him out there with a broken leg. Most those guys are trash, but Willis intrigues me, though the sample size is minuscule with him. No to old guys who suck. Maybe Jimmy g or Minshew as backup but there aren’t any names other than Jones who could really compete as a starter, maybe Jones but I wouldn’t give up significant draft picks for him.
Colts have said they are going to start talking with the Jones camp about an extension.
They’d be smart to do so even though he probably won’t be ready to start the season
He suffered a season-ending torn Achilles on Dec. 7, 2025, against the Jaguars. Depending on severity, it usually takes 9 months to a year for an Achilles to heal, but I’ve heard he is expected to be cleared for the start of training camp this year. That’s pretty fast.
I really have no idea. But believe if KOC is making the call and Cousins gets cut by Falcons, he will get serious consideration.
Looks like you left a certain person off the list who said he wants to retire in MN.
I heard he wanted to retire in ATL
I heard DC….
I copied the list from the Viking Age I think – didn’t realize Kirko wasn’t on it.
I think there’s a decent chance that’s who they bring in. Knows the offense, think he’s pretty well liked in the locker room. It makes sense that he’s an option.
I think if cheep enough, $10M in offset money might help.
I guessed it will be Trubisky at one time, so I will just stick with that for now…
I would pass on turdbiscuit
Made 10 lbs of elk snack sticks this weekend and made an effort at some chicken brats for my wife since pork doesn’t sit well sometimes for her and her mom. I cooked some of the brat meat up that I wasn’t able to stuff and I was pretty surprised how good they turned out. I did a tomato basil flavor with pepper jack cheese and for this batch of snack sticks I tried a new jalapeno seasoning and added pepper cheese. Now I just need to finish grinding the last of my antelope meat and going to make some summer sausage and jerky.
All sounds delicious
Strong work, when you ad cheese do you the high heat variant that some use? I’ve used it but kinda spendy.
I do. I think I could get away without it in snack sticks and such because I smoke them at a pretty low temp. I’ve used regular cheese in brats before though and by the time they are cooked there’s no cheese left if you make a raw brat to throw on the grill. It is a little spendy, but I think it’s worth it and you can buy 1 pound packs at Scheels now for like 10 bucks. If you order 5 pound packs it is a little cheaper, but then you have 5 pounds of high temp cheese. I made some pork brats this summer with the tomato basil and added high temp mozzarella. Those turned out awesome. I was worried about the chicken brats getting to dry. I used a binder and instead of water I added tomato juice for more flavor since there’s no fat in them.
BTW I made wings with a recipe my wife saw on TikTok…you boil them in a cup and a half of orange juice (I’m sure that has a fancy chef name like “clarify”) then add 3 garlic cloves, paprika, salt pepper soy sauce 1/2 cup water simmer 15 minutes then mustard ketchup honey man they were good.
I did not watch the game, from what I’ve read it was boring, Seattle ran the ball well, couldn’t pass much, but kicked a lot of FGs, and NE was totally incompetent on offense and Maye played like Brosmer. Guess I didn’t miss anything. Good for Darnold being on the team that won the owl, he’s a good dude who played for mostly terrible franchises until he got to Seattle.
Was kinda boring, but I’ll always watch the SB. I believe the Hawks kicker set a FG record and a RB gets MVP first time since 1997.
I don’t mind a good defensive game. I couldn’t watch all of it due to other things going on, but it is the last NFL football until August, so I watched.
A final thought on the Sam and the Vikings situation. Hun will like this, Surly not so much.
Now, we are all Viking “experts” and know all the inside the beltway stuff, i.e., like building s team on a rookie contract.
But there is the rest of the world. Have listened to a lot of analysts over the last few weeks on this subject. Also, go to gym daily on Disney Property and get to talk with a lot of football fans from just about every team in the league,
Unanimously, they all think we were complete idiots for letting Sam go, and most of the fans anyway think JJ was a flop pick.
Again, all these folks aren’t Viking experts like we all are.
‘A final thought on the Sam and the Vikings situation’
Hahaha, not likely.
I doubt you’d find anyone who said that last offseason, it’s always easy in retrospect but everyone on here wanted him gone or was at best lukewarm about bringing him back, now that he played fairly well and his team won a superb owl, everyone is an expert who says the Vikings should have signed him to a 1 billion dollar lifetime contract last offseason.
This. Happy for Sam. The team seemed to love him and cheer for his revival. Hindsight is 20/20 though.
‘Hindsight is 20/20 though’
Some people believe hindsight does not exist. What they ‘feel’ now is how they believe have always felt.
Kind of like politicians supporting a position until it doesn’t work for them anymore, then they flip and they never believed the original position.
I didn’t feel good about letting a 14 win QB back then, and I don’t feel good about it now. Turns out JJ might not be the savior some envisioned him to be, we of course had to find out what he have in him by letting him play. That’s why you use the franchise tag on Darnold. Don’t know how that would have worked out, obviously, but the Vikings look really, really dumb right now.
How do you know the Vikings would have been better with Darnold?
You don’t, they likely would have been not nothing is guaranteed, they should have had a better backup plan though
Because it’s likely. QB’s in their second year in an offense are almost always much better. NFL offenses are complex, and mastering them takes time. Tom Brady had three OC’s in 20 years with the Patriots, and one for his last eight years there. He would run two minute drills in training camp on day one, instructing everyone on what he wanted. This effect wasn’t just felt by the QB though. The veteran players on the offense all benefitted. Darnold in his second year with the Vikings would have probably been in the MVP race.
I don’t. But it is likely.
Vikings Kumbaya Krew will not ‘franchise’ someone unless they agree. No Hurt Feelings Allowed.
At the end of last season, all of the “experts” said it would be foolish to use the Franchise tag on Darnold after his las two games. If they could have swung the same deal as the Seahawks gave him, I would have been okay with that, but he did not want to stay in Minny, or so it seemed.
His teammates did seem to genuinely like him, really seemed like a good dude
That’s the point. We’re the experts on Viking football. All those other people just watch games and evaluate what looks good and bad to them. And since they root. for other teams, they have no real bias one way or the other – just football fans.
Also, do believe there were some folks on this site that thought Sam should have stayed (before the hindsight stuff).
Yeah I was fine with the Vikings letting him go, but I didn’t want them to just hand the job to JJ, I had hoped either Sam or Jones would be re-signed to compete, that did not happen, Jones got hurt but was playing at MVP level and Darnold was the QB of the team that just won the SB, and JJ mostly sucked, kind of worst case scenario but I don’t think anyone would’ve expected that.
Kind of fun, in a painful way, to watch fans were good with moving on from Sam last year now enraged about how we moved on from Sam last offseason.
I understand Fans are not logical pretty much by definition.
I personally thought we should have kept Sam. There were folks here squealing about his performances in a few games. They incorrectly pushed a narrative that a few bad games showed he was terrible. I highlighted this faulty logic many, many times.
I believe the folks in the front office here got sucked into what we called in the business world, “group think.”
Cousins threw for 4000 yards and 30 plus TD.s. We got Sam off the street and he throws for 4000 yards and 30 plus TD.s
So, we can put anyone back there and get similar results – we have the receivers and coaching and all of that.
WRONG!
Good point. Darnold and Cousins have top shelf arm talent, and years of experience in the NFL. The team might have taken that for granted.
Yeah, they finished #1 and #2 in turnovers in 2024, Darnold finished #1 this season, top shelf indeed.
Yeah, find some negative stat and pretend that is the sum total of their play. That’s some bullshit right there.
You’re the one that’s always spitting stats! Darnold did get it together in the playoffs and limit turnovers, that’s a big part of why they won
Yeah… and the stats I spout are top shelf. So you find one dent and that’s supposed represent the totality of their play. Bullshit.
I mean, the stat I posted is top shelf, #1 and #2, best of the best!
Is that the same Darnold that Quarterbacked the Seahawks to 41, 31 and 29 points against the Niners, Rams, and Patriots (three pretty stout teams) and had ZERO turnovers.
I would say Sam was spectacular in the Rams game, but he was quite pedestrian in the Niners game and the SB.
The way our QB’s play, I’ll take pedestrian all day long.
And last night, that Patriot defense was fierce and not many QB’s are going to shine against that.
Pedestrian tends to win in the playoffs. Don’t cock it up is the order of the day.
Just ask Jeff Hostetler or Trent Dilfer, both rode incredible defenses and good running games to a SB win.
Yep… even Eli Manning who I consider a very pedestrian QB.
I do as well, he does NOT belong in the HOF
Eli was who I was thinking of as I was following this conversation. Very pedestrian.
I’m not going to come across like Nostradumbass, or at least try not to, but I was very much pro Darnold and wondered out loud (on here) how the Vikings could not sign him after his performance. The whole offseason handling of the QB situation was mystifying to me and still is. I think the organizational leadership needs to be taken down to the studs…if my fandom could be measured on a scale from 1 to 10 with 1 being darn near ready to be done with them it is a 1 right now, yet the day of the week 17 game against Detroit for the first round bye I was between 9 and 10. I think we are practically doomed to be in this marginally competitive rut for a decade or more if there isn’t a shake up. I’m not the guy that says give up on your rookie QB after two bad seasons but this is different, the organization put him in the position and he has played 25% of the games he was drafted to be QB2/QB1 for…I am less excited about the QB position than during the Ponder era.
I have heard Geno Smith’s name. Fudge. The guy the Hawks cast away to get a real QB…that bird that we had in the hand.
I am also about a 1 right now.
I will probably become a 4 or 5 once it is August, and probably back to 1 by mid October.
Finding new hobbies.
A good round of golf makes everything better.
Same here. I wanted to keep one of Darnold or Jones, preferably Darnold. Didn’t feel comfortable with rolling into the season with an inexperienced rookie and nothing behind him. Then “Nine” happened.
Drafting McCarthy and promoting him as a franchise QB right off the bat was foolish. We can all see that.
hey, the world is correct in thinking the Vikings effed up by letting Sam go.
My point is, the Vikings would not have won the super bowl even with Sam. 30 million more means Kwesi would have sucked even more with the free agency last season.
I still understand letting Sam walk. He absolutely sucked in 5 games last season.
Good for Sam for getting a trophy. Too bad Kirko never went to a team with a great defense
Kwesi sucks.
Like Surly said, there is no guarantee that things would have worked out with Darnold on the Vikings.
It’s all wishful thinking.
He could have gotten us to the playoffs again, only to shit his pants when it mattered. He could have gotten hurt.
Nobody knows what the outcome would have been.
To do 20/20 hindsight is useless.
I’m glad he left the Vikings.
Vikings had a similar offer on the table but Sam choose Seattle.
It’s really not hindsight.
Sam threw for 4000 yards and 35 TD’s – that’s pretty good in this league with any team at any time. True, had some poor games.
But people forget Sam is still in his 20’s, not old like Cousins. He could still grow and you cold build a franchise around him.
That’s not really wishful thinking. More like ‘business’ thinkikng about a bird in hand.
He only threw 25 TDs not 35, also led the league in turnovers, including 14 picks, which is less that a 2:1 ratio, which is generally considered average for an NFL QB, so he was actually below average. 4k yards really isn’t that big of deal in todays nfl with the rule changes and a 17 game schedule. Let’s not pretend Darnold is somehow the second coming of Tom Brady, he played fairly well for a loaded team and managed not to fuck up the SB. I like Sam, but the knob gobbling is getting to be a bit much.
And if the Vikings re-signed him and he played like he did against Detroit and the Rams last year, everyone would be berating the FO for spending money on him.
Yep.
Exactly.
True, but if he played like he apparently did yesterday and the Vikings win a playoff game or two KAM still has a job though
And when all the smoke is blown away that is why KAM doesn’t have a job.
Correct, he should have brought back Sam or Jones or gotten someone more capable to push JJ, instead he traded for Sam Howell, who is terrible, so he hastily signed Wentz right before the season, who was not particularly good and got injured. I didn’t really care if the Vikings brought back Sam specifically, but thought they needed him or Jones back. we’ll see what they do sans KAM because it’s 100% on KOC now at the QB position
Well, we’ll just have to look around – outside the Vikings world as we discussed earlier.
It seems he is far better thought of out in the world, even the WSJ had a favorable article today, than here with the experts.
Again, I don’t know if it’s knob gobbling as they just watch games and call it as they see it.
does the WSJ even cover sports, my goodness that’s grasping for straws
Yes, the online version. And as. is the case with most things they write, it is usually good.
But them aside, the opinions of the broader sports world stand.
I thought I read they got rid of sports, but yeah, they all trashed him when he was a jet and after the playoffs last year but now he’s the greatest, I just think it’s ridiculous
But it’s the whole sports world, analysts and just ordinary football fans. Not great, but good with outstanding character.
I agree
So ‘knob gobbling’ is ok as long as others do it??
You asking for a friend?
MT is friendly, and inexpensive when behind the 7-11.
He threw 35 for the Vikings…
Oh yeah, he did, most he’s ever thrown, some people will say his play caller sucked though, lol
Well, he had the best receiving corps he ever had, and KOC likes to take shots downfield. Sam has always had a really good arm. His problem was mostly between his ears. I think he could have probably put up another 35 this year. The offense has matured now with the same play caller for 4 seasons. That’s huge. The first year, the offense is getting its feet wet. The second year it starts to gel. The third year, it should start producing consistently. The 4th year? Should be rolling.
In the end, you were wrong about Sam, and telling everyone he was always going to be bad in “big” games was wrong.
I was wrong about Sam this year.
But to assume Darnold would have worked in Minnesota just because he worked in Seattle is foolish thinking by you and others.
Besides, QB’s don’t determine wins and losses according to you.
So the Vikings would have still been 9-8 and a $35 million contract for the same result, using your logic.
Correct, because Vikings
No, Sam played way more good games than bad last year by far, but of course you take the few bad instances as your basis for condemning him. One bad play, one bad game, then he sucks, and he’s always going to suck. No matter that the vast majority of the time he played well, you decide nope… he’s not good. The logical conclusion should have been “Sam showed a lot this year, and next year in a second go round in this offense, he should grow and be even better”. That actually IS a logical take. Your take is he’ll probably be worse, and he’ll never be good in the playoffs. That is not logical at all. We all hope/expect even McCarthy will be better next year. But Sam? Nope, bound to be worse in your mind.
That is wishful thinking.
How could he have gotten better, if wins aren’t a QB stat?
Laughing… throwing for more TD’s and more yards, with a higher completion rate… how silly you don’t know that QB passing production is all he can control. QB wins are total bullshit.
As I recall it was about 60 percent of Viking Land wanted to move on to JJ and about 40 percent wanted to keep Sam. The Vikings chose poorly, but it was not an obvious decision. Also, Sam wanted a 3 year deal to stay….hard to do that when you just picked a QB in the first round.
I was talking about people who don’t live in Viking Land. They think the Vikings are idiots.
Ahhh, so that makes it true then.
No. But I have found that when I believe something, and everyone else believes something opposed, it best to give my position serious thought.
I think a lot of us on here are idiots. I just put it on the internet, so it is true.
This made me laugh out loud….
you get me VP
What about panther fans?
Lol
For sure that will be the opening game.
Based on the reviews here and elsewhere, sounds like the old adage “Defense wins championships” held in the playoffs. Therefore, my wish list looks something like:
TLDR Version,
Throw enough shit at the wall and hope enough of it sticks?
I honestly don’t know what I want to see. The team is in a weird place to my brain. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this Eeyore about the QB position. Not even Ponder made me feel this empty inside.
In December 2024, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in a 9-0 vote that federal courts lack jurisdiction to review visa revocations in instances of fraudulent marriages for immigration purposes. This establishes that the Department of Homeland Security possesses ultimate authority in these matters.
Marriage fraud for immigration purposes? Who could that possibly affect?
LOL
Also believe District Federal courts have zero jurisdiction on any immigration issue.
The SB was interesting and I think KOC could learn some from it.
Those defenses were fierce and really getting after the QB. Then they were smothering all the short routes cause they knew the QB didn’t have time. Really tough situation for the QB’s and the passing games.
Under these circumstances, you HAVE to be able to run the ball.
And of course, long developing pass routes are worthless.
I have little faith that he will change his concepts.
He finally was forced to adjust mid-season, but he was clearly reluctant to do so.
We do not have the OL to succeed with such an offensive system, and the Patriots found that out for themselves last night.
Yup, defense wins championships. The vikes had a pretty good defense this year, and if they’d kept Sam…..we can only wonder what could’ve been.
the Vikes fail if they kept Sam.
Maybe make the playoffs and 1 and done.
Our O Line cannot run block or pass protect against that defense of Seattle.
Sam went to a perfect situation, just like Brad Johnson years ago.
I had no issue with letting Sam walk after the terrible games vs the Rams, Seattle, and Detroit last season.
Kwesi failed to bring in a competent backup. That plus the underwhelming performance by the interior line free agents last year were very good reasons to fire him.
Dude earned his removal from this organization by being very bad at filling a roster.
Not sure they fail if they kept Sam.
ONe we always have bad offensive line. And second, Sam who’s still in his 20’s seemed to learn and grow this year.
Believe in the playoffs, against Niners, Rams, and Patriots. Sam didn’t throw one interception. And they scored 41, 31 and 29 points against good defenses.
No one can be ‘sure’ either way.
Would we better? Probably. Would we have been better than the SeaHags? Probably not.
KAM rolled with his plan and it failed so he got the ax. Does that mean he was wrong? Looks that way after Sam is now a SB winning QB, at least in the short term.
I have issue with letting a 14 game winner walk. Agree to disagree.
Agreed. I am having the same issue. You just don’t let a guy walk who won 14 games for you.
I admit that I was ok with the decision at the time, but I’m just a fan that was ready to start the JJ era. Our GM should’ve known better. A franchise tag should’ve been applied at the least.
Or so I hear.
I understand the failure of not keeping Sam. I really think they expected Jones to stay. Instead, we got to see how unprepared JJ is, and how bad zombie wentz is, and how absolutely terrible Brosmer is.
Team fails. every time.
From what I have read that is certainly true of the SB yesterday, apparently defense and running the ball does
30 days till free agency.
73 days till the NFL Draft.
5 and a half months till training camp.
I have lost a lot of interest…
I can keep my self entertained with the offseason. Since I don’t claim to be any kind of expert I don’t get too upset at any of the moves. Mock drafts, FA, and then the real draft are mildly entertaining.
Was for sure the least interested I’ve ever been in a Super Bowl.
I didn’t feel that I lost much by not watching it.
Absolutely
Real Men of Genius…
A great one from INXS…
A college girlfriend loved that guy (Michael Hutchence). I could never grow my hair out that long, even when I had hair (sniff). Sad that he took his own life, IIRC he had a severe brain injury that caused him to suffer mood swings.
Didn’t know that. Wow.
I will eat crow.
I said mid-season that the Seahawks weren’t actually that good and that their defense wasn’t actually that tough. They had a cake schedule up to that point and hadn’t beaten anyone of note. I also said Sam would flop and fail in the big games.
I was wrong big time. Beat some good teams obviously in the playoffs. Dominant defense. While Sam didn’t carry them at any point and they won because of their defense, he still played well enough and did what he needed to do.
Happy for Sam. Good guy with a tough path in the NFL. Proved everyone wrong, especially Kwesi.
Kwasi is a dumb dumb!
Yeah, the Hawks started 3-2. Went on a tear at the end of the season. Just like us with those quality wins at the end to finish above .500 sure hope KOC gets coach of the year again.
Darnold credited his teammates and his coaching staff for getting them to the superbowl and winning…
i’m glad Sam Darnold was able to finally get on a team that had competent coaching who could get him and their team to the next level.
i wonder if that will ever happen for the vikings. good coaching and getting us to the next level? unlikely
I back-and-forth with a Twitter dude a bit who is a big Seahawks fan. For years, he said getting rid of Geno Smith was an absolute necessity to play for a Super Bowl again.
Sure enough, they get rid of Geno and boom…
The punchline to all this is that now one of the names the Vikings are bandying about for a veteran QB presence is…Geno Smith…
Good morning, SKOL!
FTP!
Another season is complete, congrats to the Seahawks.
Come on Vikes, let’s make a run next season. Just once, before I die….
Turned 71 last month… I’m thinking I’ll miss out…
I’ll be 40 this summer and I don’t think I’ll ever see one.
I certainly hope not Bow…
You hope Bow never sees one?
That is cold!!
#grin
Laughing… with misinformation like that, you have a future as a Democrat.
‘you have a future as a Democrat’
That Sir is over the line.
Should a retaliate and call you a Pucker Fan??
#grin
Touche’
I think the NFL will cave before we die, so that cuts down the time even more.
So no, it won’t happen.
I turned 65 yesterday. Time is running out…
Belated Happy Birthday.
But at 75, guess my chances are even slimmer than all you youngins.
I experienced the 1968 NFL Championship by the Vikings and it was glorious. The long wait will make the next one that much sweeter.
Happy belated birthday!
Happy birthday!
Apparently there was some booing going on in the stadium for Bad Bunny… reviews are mixed. Some folks calling it the worst ever, some saying it was energetic and great. I’m glad I passed on the Super Bowl overall this year. The NFL is too woke for my tastes.
The first “highlight” I saw of it at one point included two guys grinding each other. So there’s that.
Gross… and this is what the NFL promoted to all those young boys who watched?
Two guys grinding doesn’t bother me at all. That means less competition for the limited pool of women that would be with me.
Starting to see some very different numbers on the halftime show last night. Gonna wait till the dust settles on this. Some very skewed perspectives are out there.
I didn’t watch the half time show as I was busy with other stuff, plus even if I wasn’t busy, I’m sure I wouldn’t have watched it as I haven’t watch any halftime show in years. I have not read any reviews, but the Yahoo headlines are praising it. I’m sure there are quite a few different perspectives on it.
If you lean that way, you loved it. If you don’t, you hated it.
There, summarized the next few days of news for everyone. You just gained more time for your week to do meaningful stuff.
Second most watched halftime show in history, only behind the Lamar Kendrick one. Kid rock and the no name crew not even close.
Ha, I should get his name right. It’s Kendrick Lamar.
As I said, I’m seeing a lot of different numbers being represented differently. Some folks claiming it was the most watched show based on the Global broadcast numbers, which do not account for fans who tuned out and didn’t watch the halftime show. Some estimates of the alternate show exceed 35 million viewers.
Personally I think this guy is a disgusting POS so I would never watch any show he participates in. Just me though.
‘this guy is a disgusting POS’
That doesn’t matter to the Woke/Dims/Libs/TDS sufferers. As long he is anti Trump then he is a hero.
Agree
Pretty strong opinion about a guy you know nothing about. Be real, you only hate on him because he’s anti orange man.
Just like many think he is a hero because he has TDS like them.
He’s anti American and anti law enforcement. He’s quite vile if you know what his Spanish lyrics actually say, and I don’t think his act is suitable for our children to be exposed to. So think what you want, he’s a POS with no business being promoted on an International stage in our biggest National sporting event. Fuck him.
From what I’ve read, even people who know Spanish couldn’t understand a lot of what he was saying last night.
Puerto Rican Spanish is a different dialect then Mexican or Tex-Mex or any other version of Spanish.
Georgian English is a different dialect the Montana English and I can still understand them, same goes for Irish, Scotland, etc. I even saw people who said they were Puerto Rican that said they couldn’t understand him.
There are levels of dialect that are easier to understand than others. They all take some getting used to.
Singing can also lead to some misunderstandings as words are manipulated to fit the music.
Together they make it more challenging. In the Army we had native Spanish speakers who could understand PR Spanish and some who said that they could not.
My friends from Puerto Rico argue otherwise. They understand his lyrics. He does include words that are slurred, or mispronounced or whatever, as do lots of songs. Listen to some John Fogarty and CCR. Still most of his lyrics are clear to them.
I know English and still have a hard time understanding a lot of song lyrics. I think it’s probably common for a lot of people.
Have you ever listened to some of kid rocks lyrics. One of his songs, I think called “cool daddy cool” has lyrics like this…..I like em young/some call it statutory/I call it mandatory….and so on. This guy was the lead act on the TP USA halftime show that promoted, faith, freedom and family.
This is true…he is kind of a creep…
That song was from the movie Osmosis Jones 25 years ago. Since then, Kid Rock has found Christianity and is a completely different person.
God is good…
I don’t know that I have ever listened to Kid Rock, certainly never tried to understand his lyrics.
48 degrees here and sunny. Expecting a high of 72 today.
Sammy won. The Vikings’ failure is complete.
I thought he played pretty well. The defenses were tough. Sammy did a good job not losing the game, avoiding sacks, getting rid of the ball and the capitalizing when the opportunity to ice the game presented itself.
It’s like Sammy learned after what happened in the Lions and Rams games last season…
So it’s usually the team that makes the least mistakes that ends up on top in the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Don’t take big sacks, don’t fumble, and don’t throw interceptions, are the rules to live by for QB’s.
You stole that from the announcers. Oh wait, you didn’t watch the game. Carry on.
Laughing… I didn’t. Nice to know the “on-air talent” agrees with me.
Looks like Hun and SoCal had quite the time last night. According to Hun, Sam Darnold won a Super Bowl I believe.
Will be interesting to see if the viewership waned all that significantly. They might not even report it though.
I like Hun, mostly we had a good time.
By the end he was dealing with his local teams loss and demotion and Sams win. Plus of course he was a bit drunk. No point in discussing stuff with a drunk, I learned that with my own father. Almost as bad as discussing politics with a TDS sufferer.
I bowed out as gracefully as I could.
I read through it this morning and it gave me a chuckle. Hun was definitely drunk.
Well I did have a few cold ones after getting home… and maybe a shot or two…
I might have mentioned a few times that Sam Darnold won a Superbowl, right… sorry about that.
As Wrenage put it somewhere above, “The Vikings’ failure is complete”. Yes, it indeed is. I don’t trust this organization any more to ever being able to identify all the right peaces at the right time to win a Superbowl. They hired Kwesi, for Pete’s sake…
Be that as it may, I apologize for being a nuisance at the end there yesterday. Have a fine day, mate.
Not a problem. Fan is short for Fanatic after all.
You do your fandom in the way that works for you.
I avoid Drunk Fandom as I avoid drunk anything else but that due to my own personal history.
We are good.
I didn’t watch the game, but per no finer a source than “Alexa”, viewership set a record, 135 million US viewers. That’s a lot.
Happy Monday,
Skol
