Hey, the NFL is FINALLY going to be investigated by the Feds. They’ve enjoyed (and abused) the status of being exempt from Federal anti-trust law, the NFL and MLB being the only entities being granted this special designation. I hope the Feds finally do something right, and fine the absolute dog-snot out of the NFL. In a crazy twist, I hear that Fox Network is the organization who spoke to the Feds to prompt the investigation. Wow!
What a weekend! It was in the 60s and 70s here all weekend, we played a LOT of baseball and also did a lot of fishing. We live nextdoor to an elementary school that has a baseball field, but the field isn’t used, so it isn’t in great shape. We did a little redneck maintenance yesterday, it looks fantastic now.
The field got plenty of use over the weekend, mainly by us & friends of ours. Kiddo LOVES his new bat, the DeMarini Voodoo, and my arm feels like absolute jello. Between kiddo and his friends, I’m guessing I threw a couple hundred pitches on Saturday & Sunday. It’s the first baseball of the year, lots of rust to work out in my shoulder & arm, I’m 52 years old and have many hard miles on the ol’ body. It sure felt good to be out there, though, I love baseball more than almost anything.

It looks like Baker Mayfield will be staying in Tampa, and getting a nice pay hike in the near future, per NFL.com.
Eh, this little paragraph is going to turn into a couple/few paragraphs. Mike Vrabel will NOT be attending the Patriots’ pre-draft presser, per Fox News. Gee, I wonder if it has anything to do with the pictures of him and Dianna Russini (who is married) that surfaced recently, story from People Magazine (well, their website, I don’t know if it’s still a magazine. Hell, I don’t even know if they make magazines anymore, other than the type that go into a firearm).
I think it’s hilariously hypocritical that the same guy who just expressed concern about Treveon Henderson posting a Bible verse in support of an NBA player’s right to express an opinion, saying that posting that Bible verse. Yeah, banging a married gal is okee-dokee for the team, but don’t post a Bible verse, that’s just horrible and immoral. What a douchepickle.

The mental health benefits from accomplishing hard goals along with raising a family (coupled with man’s preordained nature to want to provide and protect said family) can’t be overstated.
Likely far more beneficial than switching out hand towels or rearranging couch pillows – essentially what feng shui is. And I routinely do it.

You weren’t even born when the Iran Contra event happened, and I lived it. The Reagan administration hoped to use the proceeds of the arms sale to fund the Contras, an anti-Sandinista rebel group in Nicaragua. Under the Boland Amendments, further funding of the Contras by legislative appropriations was prohibited by Congress, but the Reagan administration continued funding them secretly using non-appropriated funds. So they bent the rules a bit to achieve a very special objective.
Beyond the Nicaragua effort though, the reason the administration wanted to continue the arms shipments was that they were ultimately a part of an attempt to free seven U.S. hostages being held in Lebanon by Hezbollah. Yes, seven American hostages we were trying to free. Get that?
The idea to exchange arms for hostages was proposed by Manucher Ghorbanifar, an expatriate Iranian arms dealer. Some within the administration hoped the sales would influence Iran to get Hezbollah to release the hostages. That was the hope, and there were many who believed this would work. Unfortunately what began as a strategic opening to Iran deteriorated, in its implementation, into “trading arms for hostages”.
The events leading up to all this of course were associated with the kidnapping in Lebanon of 104 foreign hostages between 1982 and 1992, during the Lebanese Civil War. The hostages were mostly Americans and Western Europeans, but 21 national origins were represented. At least eight hostages died in captivity; some were murdered, while others died from lack of medical attention. During the fifteen years of the Lebanese civil war an estimated 17,000 people disappeared after being abducted.
So it was an ugly time, and desperate measures were taken to try and save American citizens in a brutal political and ethically challenged landscape.

Hoping there’s a lock out after this season and major changes happen to the MLB and the Twins are sold. Then I will believe again.

Every year teams do tons of research on players, and every year teams still get it wrong.
Research cannot qualify heart, will, and future injuries.
Players will say and do whatever they can in order to get drafted and get that first paycheck.

I have been taking promising OCs late in the draft. Like Delby Lemieux, OL, Dartmouth,
6-4, 345 lbs, 9.31 RAS. He mostly played OT in college but also has experience at OG and OC. He is rated #256 under Consensus on profootballnetwork.com so available in the 7th round usually.
Slow day. Twins tied for best record in AL and are 2nd in rounds scored. Feels like we are living in opposite world.

I read somewhere that Kubiak was singularly unimpressed with the Raiders receiving corps after he looked at the film. Basically looked the group and said “nope” not gonna work. They brought in Nailor for his speed and maybe familiarity with Cousins. Of course, Speedy joined the Vikings the year after Kubiak left so he doesn’t know the offense, but he can run the routes needed. We’ll see what other moves the Raiders make going forward. They’re in a tough Division. All the other teams are bona fide contenders with Championship winning head coaches.

You must not pick up much CME in your day to day work? Basically every time I read an article on an unusual imaging finding I can take a little post test and get 0.25 or 0.5 hours. Every Friday grand rounds is an hour. Plus I get my comeuppance during in person CME, things like yeah I know all the chest CT things like UIP, NSIP, COP, HP, DIP, RB-ILD, only to have them show a case that looks like nothing I’ve seen before and some smarty pants young rad in the back says oh that is classic DIPNECH. Really? I’ve never heard of it.
I’m firmly taking the over on this…

I love how popular ‘Yoga Pants’, ‘Biker Shorts’ and ‘Spandex’ are at the Gym. It makes the 10 mile power walk a lot more interesting.

My wife works at a gym training competitive body builders. The gym specializes in that particular pursuit. There are a lot of hard bodies in there. There are also a lot of bodies with no business being in there, or wearing what they’re wearing.

I figure if they are at the gym and working to get fit then no judgement from me. It is the parents who drop off their teens for free babysitting that bug me. Some of those are a real PITAs.
Our Gym is a ‘Recreation Center’ so lots of families and elderly. There is even a physical therapy center attached so lots of people recovering from injuries.
So I suspect the percentage of Fit to Not is much lower at my Rec Center. That makes the fit ladies that much more appreciated.
My gym is about 70 percent hot to 30 percent “not hot”. All of the fit females like to show what they have. Heavy dose of young air force folks.
Ours is the reverse 30% hot, mostly seniors trying to stay alive like me. But I am not going to pay more to go to a gym just to have better visuals while I walk my laps.
Lots of cute kids to watch though so that helps a little bit. They play a lot of games in the center of the track, it can be fun to watch the little ones trying so hard at whatever activities the staff has set up for them. They do much better than I would have done at their age.
I am getting to the age where I would almost rather watch the kids than the eye candy work out……..almost……….
The kids are more fun to watch, the amount of energy they have is astounding.
The eye candy is more of a pleasant distraction that can help with the boredom of doing 50-55 laps.

So at some future date.
My wife is crazy smart. We decided to pull up about 120 yards of hog wire fence and about 60 t-posts yesterday (for those that are unaware, t posts are so-called as they have a t-shaped cross section and are metal posts with nubs on them to attach barbed wire, etc. that get driven about a foot into the ground). I started on the tractor (it made more sense to me that she operate the tractor but she insisted she can’t figure out how to work it). No matter how I tried to explain she could not figure out the “loop a chain around the t-post so you can pull it with the front end loader” trick. Finally I insisted she had to operate the tractor, I actually felt bad how insistent I had to be. Two hours later my back was so pleased with my exertion it gave me special aches as a reward for pulling up hog wire embedded in the dirt, rolling it up, wrapping chain around t-posts, stacking them, and loading them in the UTV.
Basically, I got “tom sawyered”.
Is the ‘Wife crazy smart’ or is she just dealing with someone who is ‘not so smart’??

10 days till the NFL draft. I feel less interested in this event every year. The media tries to hype up the event and make it glitzier year after year, but my interest in it continues to wane. We’ll see in two years which players were good picks, and which were not.
I am perfectly capable of ignoring the ‘glitz’ while enjoying the process.
I loved the original. It was hilarious. Why do they destroy everything that was good? Is there anything good out there to watch these days?
Certainly ratings drive everything on TV. Apparently they think this will appeal to many millions of folks around the country. That said, “go woke, go broke” is a real effect in business. More and more Americans are fed up with all this crap. We’ll see how long the show lasts.

For sure. It’s unwatchable. How is this entertaining? This is supposed to be a zany, off-the-wall show and it gets interrupted with a 5 minute diatribe testimonial (that’s supposed to be about the father but all attention and sympathy gets redirected to the person speaking).
I haven’t seen this re-make, but from what you are describing, it reminds me of old “Christian” film where they were often long sections of “sermons”, that were not subtle at all. I think it is called “message” tv. Be as blunt as possible with your message in case the stupid people can’t pick up on your message.
I’m relieved to say I’ve never seen an episode of the original, so need not be bothered bringing out the snark on the reboot.

I’ve seen a few episodes, maybe all of season one, but I can’t recall exactly. It was not great tv, it was average tv.
The Scrubs reboot is pretty good, I think.

I actually watched the final round, Rory had a bad couple of holes early with a double bogey and bogey, but was steady the rest of the way, young and rose both had leads at one point but faltered down the stretch and Sheffler played the best round of the contenders but was a little too far back To start the round, he needed to play pretty much perfect to win, but he was just good. The Irishman prevailed. It was somewhat entertaining, some great shots, a lot of bad putting, and it wasn’t a runaway. I might watch golf again if it is competitive going into the final round
I will watch the last couple hours of a big match if I come across it. Wacky things can happen, either big runs or meltdowns that can be entertaining.

I, personally, would give him 1 more year. He showed some nice flashes, and his throwing mistakes were consistent, which might mean they are fixable. Part of the issue was coaching, in my belief. Too much forcing the ball deep, and too much to Jefferson
Well, he has the worst on-target throw rate in the NFL and also the worst bad throw rate. So by the measurable metrics, compared to all the other QB’s in the league, he’s basically the worst, least accurate passer.

I am in a gray area on JJM. I don’t care if they trade him. I don’t think he will be here once his contract runs out anyway.
But, if they want try to salvage him for one more year, I can see that, too.

I think all the trade rumor stuff is totally made up by pundits. I remember years ago when NFL reporter Mike Silver said he had discovered a deal in the making where the 49ers were sending a number of draft picks to the Redskins for Kirk Cousins, and in turn, the Redskins were sending those draft picks to Dallas for Tony Romo. Silver said on air that it was an 85% done deal.
No such deal was ever in the works. Silver just made it up, went on National TV and announced it, and no one ever said anything about it after the fact. This was in 2017. Almost a decade later Silver is still peddling narratives and rumors.
So I doubt there’s anything going on with teams interested in making a trade for the worst passing QB in the league.
Probably. It is the silly season when sportscasters say things like, “I think the Cleveland Browns have a real chance this year!”
I’m pretty sure they all sit down around a table in the morning and say, “Okay, we need to plug the Browns today. They are running a ticket promotion, so the fans need to believe they won’t suck again.”
It depends on what you get – if you can recoup your 1st rounder, you trade him in a heartbeat. 2nd round + other picks, you think about it. 3rd or later, forget about it.
If a first round was offered, I would have went and broke up JJM’s wedding to get him on a plane as fast as possible.

On the JJ Mc trade rumor, the reason why the Vikings should consider the trade, is that every year he doesn’t play or looks bad, they get less value in return.
He’s likely not playing much in year three.
Yes, looks like if we trade him now we might get late 3rd round/early 4th round value….If we sit him for another year because he is awful, or let him play and prove he is awful, we are likely looking at a 6th round return.
We should cut our loses and get what we can.
