Vikings Discussion and Random Thoughts
Not much new out there for NFL news, more speculation about contracts that haven’t been signed, and more gnashing of teeth because Aaron Rodgers hasn’t signed anywhere yet. Weirdos, they need hobbies so they can think of something else besided Aaron Rodgers. Eye roll.
Kiddo and I got out last night to do some fishing, our first shore fishing trip of the year. Conditions weren’t perfect, around 40 degrees, and we were only out for an hour or so, but we had a good time and it sure felt good to be out fishing again. We’re hoping the weather will improve soon, and we’re hoping to get out again after we get back from our weekend trip. We’re heading to Rapid City for a stand-up funeral, and we’ll be back on Sunday, so kiddo and I are thinking of maybe camping on Sunday night, weather permitting. We’ll see.

Sad news. LSU WR Kyren Lacy died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, per MSN. Lacy was projected to be a day-two pick in the upcoming draft until January, when he was charged with negligent homicide and other charges after he was involved in an automobile accident that killed 78 year-old military veteran, Herman Hall. It sounds like police were called to a residence on Saturday and were looking to question Lacy, they later tried to pull him over, he fled and crashed, and shot himself at some point during or immediately after the chase. When police pulled him from the vehicle, he was already dead. Really sad situation, on many levels.

In yet another disturbing example of sanctuary policies putting Americans at risk, Immigration Customs and Enforcement in Boston arrested an illegal Ecuadoran immigrant this week who is now facing over 20 sex crime charges involving a Massachusetts minor. Despite a clear ICE detainer request, the local jurisdiction chose to ignore it—releasing the suspect back into the community instead of handing him over to federal authorities.
Does Boston’s Mayor Michelle Wu think these pedophiles are above the law? Imagine what our ICE officers could do without Sanctuary City policies that protect illegal alien criminals including child predators, murderers, and rapists.
So why would the good citizens of Boston vote for and elect politicians that are going to release criminals like this back into the greater society to do it again.?

Yep. Rodgers was once an amazing talent, and I believe he could still get the job done. That said, he does bring some level of disruption wherever he goes. I think the Vikings are doing the right thing here.

I read an article, clearly out of LA, that said the Lakers fans believe the Lakers will sweep the T’wolves. But, the expert writing the article believes the T’wolves may win one or two games. I laughed the whole time I was reading it, thinking about last years playoffs and the Suns series in particular.

They have not. I think if Twolves game plan properly they can win this. They have the Bigs that Lakers cant match up with. As well as youth. Play D and make Lebron and Luka work for everything they get and tire them out.

My two high school buddies that also live out in Lincoln with me sent me a text yesterday saying we should head to the cities for a game. One of them is a giant Lebron fan and has no shame for it lol. He admits he just follows him from team to team (he’s liked him since Lebron joined the league so not really band wagon). Other friend and I are Wolves fans.
I think we might go, depending on the schedule.

Minnesota sports, in general, perennially suffer from bad coaching and/or bad players, or even good rosters who just crumble under pressure. Whether it’s one weak link or a whole roster of chokers, you have that factor. Then, the sports leagues not wanting MN to win (perhaps in general or just over other “more important” teams). Thus, a championship for basketball or football will never happen. Twins were allowed to win in the past for whatever reason, but that was essentially before my lifetime, so it’s irrelevant at this point.

Just like any other team that employees him. Thats all. I was very pro Vikings and positivity once last season started rolling, you can go back and check if you’d like. So not sure where you’re pulling that from. And unlike the Vikings the wolves have shown they have the talent to go deep into the play offs and actually match up with other super stars. Fingers crossed the Vikes do the same, very soon.

Haha yeah, I’ve come around to reality. I like to hope, but I don’t think Kirk Cousins was the problem. Every other player the Vikings have ever had may have also been the problem, because they never won then either.
It is enjoyable to see success, at least during the regular season, against many odds at times. But come playoffs? I can’t say I have expectations of greatness until proven otherwise at this point.
I was confused about the moss card GF posted so I did a little research. He never wore the number 88 in the NFL, but it was his number in college. Apparently, it is an “airbrushed” card. I had no idea this was something that was done to cards.
What number did he wear in training camp? (Maybe 88?)
18, rookie year. Switched to 84 when regular season started. I guess they just airbrushed his Marshall college card after being drafted.

I may have written that wrong, if he was on their radar, it was a small blip and they were more than likely thinking if he’s there later on we will give him a look. If they had told him we want you for sure but we want to keep our comp picks, I don’t think he would choose to go to the Browns, who probably won’t make the playoffs. Of course, I could be completely wrong, but I don’t think the Vikings are distraught, because they didn’t get him.
Yeah, but a team can say they want you all they want, but money talks. Flacco wouldn’t pass up a real offer for a pretend offer. Just my opinion of course. The Vikings very well could have pinged Flacco and said they were interested in signing him, but that would not stop him from signing with another club.

I know a pro fishing guide that has a set of dental tools (less dull than the ones they pick my teeth with). He uses them to unsnarl his bait casters.
One of the main reasons I hate using baitcasters.
Revolving spools can be pesky. adjusting tension. Sometimes casting upwind, sometimes down. Need to learn the art of thumbing.
That’s one way to end a fishing trip.
I’ve been using a bait caster since I was a kid, it’s all I use. They’re hard to learn, but once you know how to use one, you’ll never use anything else.
I’ve never understood the pros and cons of a spinning reel vs a bait caster. I always have used spinning reels and those are not immune to snarls, either. Then there is the delight of wind knots on a fly rod.
Or catching your back when you’re trying to cast in a cross wind.

Really hits home cuz I managed to drive a fork through the wall of my shop all of five days after it was completed. Patched it up…just lately I realized I would like to put an exterior outlet there to use to plug in the block heater on my tractors which sit outside, so maybe I was super smart jabbing a hole through there…or maybe I was really lucky someone wasn’t sitting on the other side!
We put up new backsplash in the kitchen on Saturday…of course I thought it would take all of ninety minutes…bought some cheap CHYNA GFCI outlets to match the black backsplash, cursed as I jabbed my fingers and pinched wires trying to get them all connected, turned on the power, none of them worked, cursed as I opened up the boxes, cursed as I electrocuted myself cuz I forgot to turn off the power, cursed as I realized I had hooked up the first box wrong, cursed as I opened the others and they were all fine, turned on the power, cursed as they still refused to reset. Cursed as I packed up the boxes to return and ordered the more expensive GFCIs from Leviton.
Good thing I do those projects on Saturday and not Sunday, a lot of taking the Lord’s name in vain.

to sum it up, it was horrible. The two lead male actors were both asexual, Jack Black is not funny and he’s gonna die of heart disease in the near future. His co-actor sucked. Stiffler‘s mom was one of the other characters, she sucks. The fat black lady from sonic was on there, she sucks. The two kids were pretty good actors, and they didn’t annoy me.
Whatever humor they were shooting for, they missed horribly. It was an abysmal pile of monkey spunk as a movie. Do not go, unless you have a burning desire to see a shitty movie. I give it two thumbs down & the middle finger.

Not at all, just giving an honest review. I’m actually in a great mood, we went fishing last night.
The worst part is, it could’ve been a really good movie. They had some cool things to work with, and it could’ve been really funny and entertaining. Due to the crappy actors, and the horrible writers, it is what it is.
Good to know. Both of my boys have been begging to go see it. Maybe I’ll talk my wife into taking them when I’m at work.
Solid plan, it was terrible. My wife hated it even more than I did.
I know nothing about Minecraft either so I have no desire. I’ve never been a video game guy and we don’t play video games now so I feel like it would just be a weird movie without knowing what’s going on a little.

Did a lot of yard work on Saturday, from raking leaves to hand tilling my small garden. Spent about 8 hours outside in the beautiful weather. Tried watching Kellon Mond, playing for San Antonio in the UFL yesterday. Unfortunately, I was not able to stay awake for a lot of the game. It is a bit of a tough watch, nothing really separates it from the NFL, except for the talent level.
I did some work outside yesterday morning, pulled some weeds, and cleared out the flower bed. I didn’t do a lot though. I’ve never watched the UFL.
I thought I would give it a try (UFL), since there was a small connection with Mond being on the team, but it was a very tough watch. Not only was the talent level not there, the production was a bit weird. Like San Antonio was about to get into FG position to tie the game and the sideline reporter very awkwardly walked up to the place kicker to ask if he was nervous. But it was a very odd situation.
I agree, the production is really weird. It’s what the NFL will look like in 10 years.
I never liked the Mond pick. He looked like a boy among men.

Golf on TV is normally just nap-time for me. Yesterday was fun, and I stayed awake for the entire round. Good for Rory for finally getting that green jacket.
Now, on to more useless football speculation. And the NBA Playoffs start. I have not watched a single game this season. Why start now?

Morning Surly. Interestingly enough, Rory is the only golfer in history to complete the career Grand Slam by winning the Masters.
Also, no one has mentioned he is now the only golfer who could complete the Grand Slam this calendar year. He won the Masters which of course, is the first of the 4 majors. So now, he is the only one who could win all four this year.
The next golf major is the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club, Charlotte, North Carolina, May 15-18.
