Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
I don’t care to waste your time telling you what you already know, the Vikings offense looked like runny, steamy, dog s*** yesterday. The left tackle position was a position of major weakness the entire game, and Will Fries has appeared to struggle at times in these first two games. Darrisaw’s return will be huge, but even the backups should be able to do better than they did yesterday. J.J. McCarthy has to play better, but he wasn’t given much of a chance to succeed last night. 6 points wouldn’t have been enough to win the Twins game, let alone a football game. I’m pissed that I wasted time and money to attend that game. They need to get something figured out, because as of now, the offense has produced one decent quarter out of the eight they’ve played this year. They’ll right the ship at some point, but it hasn’t been a specacular start to the year.

I would prefer not to have to live yesterday over again.
I went to make a new post, looks like Surly is already doing so
New thread up.
You can edit it if you would like some positivity.
I am still DOOM.
Live in the now!
The Texans O-line is hot trash.
And so is the Vikings…..
Yeah, they looked like dog shit last night. Seeing it live was even worse. I feel like they have the pieces there, though, and it will come together at some point. I don’t see that in Houston, their O line is really bad.
Just saw the news about JJ’s ankle, UGH. Maybe Darrisaw and some other offensive lineman will be back when he returns, I hope.
Mayfield with two passing TD’s on his first two drives.
Mayfield makes some excellent throws on the drive and tosses a nice TD pass to tie the game.
C.J. Stroud looked really good on the opening drive for a TD against the Bucs.
I imagine Mayfield will match that on his opening possession.
i think one of the biggest reasons why i’m a bit down with the team now is that THIS YEAR was/is our window….
looking at the cap hits MULTIPLE players have next year of over 20mill hits….
THIS was/is the year. And losing games we NEED to win before we face actual hard teams….and not only losing but looking incompetent, is just a tough pill to swallow.
For me, this is where I wanted the team to be last year to begin the season…struggling with Darnold, then struggling with JJ, ending the season with a couple of wins, say a record of 6-11. Hard to keep the pessimism from creeping in.
We simply have too much offensive talent to be playing like this.
I expected next season to be our year. This season, I figured 10 wins, Wildcard win(maybe) and then out in the divisional round.
Team still needs depth, and obviously cannot handle losing multiple starters.
JJ on the rookie deal gives the team two more seasons to replace aging vets with rookies to build the team from within.
Still, this season now officially sucks with both the injuries and how poorly JJ played while alive.
You know lot of people were doubtful about Sam. He did OK here and I think it’s fair to say better than what I have seen so far.
Have watched Wentz for years going back to Philly. He “was” pretty good. Then they seperated.
Went to Indy, played well but the knock was his attitude and about same in Washington, and has been a backup since.
If his problem of late has been attitude, KOC might fix that and we could be OK. .
Wentz has struggled with significant injuries throughout his career, including a torn ACL and a fractured vertebra, which have affected his consistency and availability.
In addition, his performance has been inconsistent, leading to criticism regarding decision-making and accuracy. This has resulted in a decline in his starting opportunities.
Wentz has also experienced difficulties adapting to different offensive systems and has had issues with team chemistry, particularly during his time with the Colts and the Redskins.
Some coaches have concerns about his mental resilience under pressure, which can impact his gameplay and leadership on the field.
When you put that all together, he appears to be a problem child.
We need a competent pocket passer to distribute the ball to our playmakers. Someone who is a technician, not a guy who thinks he’s the star of the team.
“We need a competent pocket passer……..” Well OK, haven’t see much of that lately. Got any ideas?
None that are realistic. I would have pursued Jacoby Brissett over Wentz though.
Sam struggled when it mattered. Need to have a QB that can improvise.
I have no idea if JJ can, but he has the physical ability when not running on 1 leg.
I’m a simpleton, Sam at least looked like a competent NFL QB and we won 14 games. Or as I said above – OK. Right now just minimum ‘competent’ play would look good to me.
Play Prince and Purple Rain in the pregame.
Hi Skolly !!
Welcome back.
i don’t get this, why skolly? did someone else post how he is likely out multiple weeks? or just that he’s out THIS week….
Pretty sure they will hold him out until after the bye, and if the season looks doomed I expect another surgery.
Starting to hate this team again.
I’m struggling with bowbunch’s unbridled optimism in the offseason. It’s all his fault!
at least JJ’s knees are fine
Oh wait until they do the ankle mri and see a little problem with the repaired meniscus on the edge of the film
I want to laugh at this, but since it will probably happen, you get a rec instead.
You know that’s what’ll happen, no doubt.
Best part of game Jet putting move on that safety/DB.
At least the Survivor pool got easier this week.
Bengals are a lock
If you take the Bengals, the Vikings might win.
You need to take one for the team Surly.
Also, put 16 points on the Bengals in the pickem.
Honestly, with how bad Wentz is, I think I will pick the Bengals and probably 12 points.
Team cannot run the ball. Wentz cannot throw the ball.
DOOM
Still want Brosmer. Seems logical.
Brosmer will probably be playing by the 4th quarter. Either Wentz gets hurt or the Vikings are losing by 30
Brosmer has the reps and looked good. He’s my pick. Having just said that means it won’t happen.
Unfortunately, it’s the Bengals.
You never know what they will do either.
So it’s a bit of a coin flip.
It is the Bengals and even with Wentz we will beat them.
Eh.
Browning has way more recent experience than Wentz.
Colour me skeptical.
If KOC is a QB whisperer it’s about time he starts earning his money again.
If brad attends book it.
High ankle sprain for JJ? The Coming of Carson seems to be at hand!
Hmm.
@I knew it wasn’t JJ’s fault. He was injured.@
LOL
Haha. Yep, he was lighting it up before that!
Yep.
Fourth Quarter comeback last week, terrible this week.
It’s the injury.
The injury gave him so much adrenaline he overthrew Nailor by 5 yards.
Plausible…
At least if past excuses were allowed.
(I was joking)
I went to confirm this and Google AI says it’s true so it must be true.
Is he really hurt or is the coach bailing on him already?
Paternity leave.
Excellent question. Maybe it’s just KOC taking the kid out of the spotlight, maybe JJ got dinged up on that ugly sack/fumble… we’ll never find out, I guess.
They were taping it up between series on the sidelines last night.
Sprained ankle and a decision today. Seems a little suspicious.
Agreed.
Nah… last night, in the heat of the moment, with adrenaline pumping, the athlete keeps going. Then the next day, when the aching and swelling kick in, and you can’t walk on it, things are different.
Yea, been there. And the next day is terrible. But Sunday is several days away with a great training staff.
Didn’t Rothlesberg play in a boot and couldn’t even move.
I think Roethlisberger played on a bum ankle several times in his career. Think the time you’re referring to is when he left playoff game they won against the Dolphins in a boot, and played against the Chiefs the next week.
I say Brosmer…..
AGREED,,,EFF IT.
That could be fun. Or not.
No worse then the first two weeks.
Agreed. Maybe he’s Purdy.
I bought tix for this weeks game looking forward to seeing JJ vs Burrow.
Instead it is Wentz vs Browning. I hate my life right now and want a refund already.
I do not even want to go.
This will be my last live NFL game. Never spending money on this shit again.
It could be worse.
You could have bought season tickets to the Twins.
You should be able to get 75% of your money back.
If you didn’t have to sell your first born, it wouldn’t be so bad.
It’s rigged anyway. It’s about the experience with others in the stadium, undergoing the same emotions of suffering as you. THAT’S what you’re paying for. lol
Monty Pyton Auto Rec.
As rigged as any “sport”. It’s “entertainment”, after all 🤑
This really sucks, I feel sorry you. Try to enjoy the game nevertheless, if at all possible, it’s “just” entertainment after all… maybe it will develop into a fun game, just not for the reasons we expected. Buy yeah, it does suck mightily. Any option of selling the tickets if you really couldn’t stand to attend?
Curious if I’ll get to watch Wentz or JJ taking on good ol’ Aaaaaron in Dublin… do we know how long such a high ankle sprain can linger? 🤔
Months is a possibility.
Thanks, MT. So it’s confirmed that I’ll be watching Wentz play in Dublin…
They say 3-4 weeks. So yes Dublin in on the table for Wentz unless our OL gets him killed as well and we are on to QB3.
Depends on how mad the coach is.
If Wentz lights it up, it could be a LONG recovery.
Maybe you’ll get lucky and some scantily clad blonde bombshell with big bosoms will be sitting next to you.
I’m pissed that we wasted our time going to the Falcons game. Still pissed.
How long before they decide JJ needs season ending surgery again?
After the bye maybe? Seems like they’ll have to keep him out for 2 to 4 weeks.
Which most likely means that I’ll get to see Wentz as well, battling it out against Rodgers.
Wentz will be our next Case Keenum, and take us all the way to the NFCCG…and then…DOOM.
Oh, so we get another episode of THAT playbook? Should be fun, until it isn’t. Wentz could make for a great reclamation project with KOC, probably.
LOL. JJ passer rating 37.5. If he spiked every pass attempt it’d be 39.6.
Yea I heard that this morning. Made me wonder how passer rating is calculated?
Math i don’t relly get.
What dings it the most are INT’s.
Which is why Aaron Rodgers takes zero risk because he is like the all time leader in passer rating I think.
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/about/qb-rating.htm
Well that, and his O-line held everyone on every play, along with getting bailed out by DPI and defensive holding calls all the time to keep drives alive.
Indirect factors to be sure, but not a direct measure when inputted into the formula.
True, but it looks way better when you have more yards and TD’s that you really shouldn’t have had the opportunity for.
The four separate calculations can be expressed in the following equations:
a=(CMP/ATT)−0.3)×5
b=(YDS/ATT)−3)×0.25
c=(TD/ATT)×20
d=2.375−(INT/ATT)×25)
ATT = Number of passing attempts
CMP = Number of completions
YDS = Passing yards
TD = Touchdown passes
INT = Interceptions
If the result of any calculation is greater than 2.375, it is set to 2.375. If the result is a negative number, it is set to zero.
Then, the above calculations are used to complete the passer rating:
Passer Rating=(a+b+c+d) / 6 ×100
Note that an INT has a factor of 25.
The highest of the four factors.
Thanks. Wonder what guru came up with that. Really have no idea how good an indicator this is.
Every INT is about a negative 15 points.
Seems excessive.
Yikes! At least he’s not as bad as Darnold or Cousins! lol
LOL
One word re last night = putrid.
More words, guys I don’t normally do this as at 56 I feel I am healthy as a horse…but my PSA jumped from low 3’s last September to 25 on Friday. I wanted to wait and see what my internist said (he is on vacation, I saw the results in the patient portal), but with my wife’s boot in my ass I called a urologist friend at 4:30 and she got me in (here in Glendive) for biopsy over the lunch hour (which was painless BTW). Any positive thoughts, wishes or prayers would be appreciated. Takes about a week for results to come back.
Best wishes, MT. All will be well.
Got your back MT. I need a PSA. We are all on the same road.
Good luck. Isn’t there a fair amount of false reads with PSA?
She felt the gland was way too small and soft to fit with a 25 PSA, wonders about subclinical prostatitis with such a rapid increase, but clearly biopsy was indicated. I felt my mortality when I saw the result and my wife asked is it bad, how bad is it? I wasn’t a doctor at that moment, just a scared guy.
More than likely too much sex in a short period of time. ust eat a bunch of oysters and sleep in the guest room.
I was on vacation last week…hmm…
Now you made me go check mine from my last test. My prostate has always been slightly enlarged, or at least that is what I have been told. My doctor started having me do the PSA my last two physicals. For some reason I can’t find the one from 2024, but this year’s came in at 1.06. Can there be that drastic a change from year to year? It must be some sort of outlier.
Hopefully. Certainly can happen with prostatitis…but it also can happen with aggressive cancer…so that’s why I was biting on a bullet with a probe up my butt while she took 12 samples (actually didn’t hurt at all, especially after she put some local anesthetic in, way less painful than what I remember at the dentist 40 some years ago).
If the dentist was trying to reach your prostate, that may have been the problem.
Big jump on the PSA.
Prayers that it is an outlier.
Got you on my mind sawbones…..
🔨🔨🔨
Let’s hope it is just a false reading. Prayers are being said.
Good luck, MT. You’ll be fine!
Hope it all works out. It sucks that you now will be thinking about that for a week.
Looks the tranny world knew something was going to happen ahead of time on Charlie Kirk.
Wow. Hope they at least indict them as accessories to the murder. Even if the charges don’t stick.
Cousins to the Bengals?
Owner would never pay that kind of money.
Atlanta could eat part of it. They are paying all of it currently, anything they push off to Cincy is savings plus any pick they get back.
But that’s my point.
Brown is too cheap to make it happen.
Just my guess.
Probably not, but they’re built to “win now” and have paid their WR’s and such accordingly. But that’s the situation the Vikings were in in the past when we first got him. It would be fun to see, though.
Rec for TRUTH !
Maybe, guessing Kirko contract a problem.
Atlanta would have to eat some of his contract for sure, but they’re paying him to do not much right now.
Apparently, the Vikings were one of only 5 NFL teams who didn’t hold a minute of silence for Charlie Kirk? Can this be verified? I’m seeing some posts about this on bookface.
They did not. The Gjallarhorn was silent for Floyd, however.
So, kinda did?
SoCal prob nailed it, this might be the most liberal brain dead state in the country. In case people ain’t aware i’ll fight the left till the day i tip over.
Is it worse than California?
Ooh…not sure. Cal may beat us in the power rankings on that one. Close one.
At least Cali comes up with it’s own ideas, as stupid as they may be. Minne just follows Cali blindly.
whoops, miss read, didn’t see the Floyd part. This State is really messed up.
In Tampon Tims Minn they have to conform to the Woke/Left or risk not being invited to the best
partiesDrag Queen Story Hour.rec for comment, not story hour…
Decision related to the already-planned festivities for Jared Allen?
Boy, did Arodg go off on post game. Good watch, check it out.
Burrow out for foreseeable future, maybe season. Almost feel worse for Bengal fans. Grade 3 turf toe or something whatever that is.
NFLN is playing the Falcons@Vikings game at 1:00 CST for you guys that missed a great game.
LOL
The O sucks. 6 sacks? the D sucks. Other than that we should be fine. Where’s Darrisaw? Life support? We get a new center who has had issues with concussions and in game 2 guess what? We have a shot at last in the North.
Well, we might beat Chicago, but I would put a lot of money on GB and DET being ahead of us come January.
It sucks knowing that ftp and the eagles and probably even Detroit are way better than the purple right now.
The others are “playing” better right now not necessarily better teams – well maybe the Eagles are. We just need to get back to our game.
It’s early. Lots of talent on team and also lots of time to get things worked out.
What we should look for is improvement, from game to game. I’m going to go on record right now, and say I think McCarthy will play better next week.
I would expect so too. While the Bears and the Falcons aren’t great defenses, think the Bengals are worse.
That said, I still think KOC needs to get back to coaching the game to take advantage of our talent and forget some that we have a rookie QB.
Forget it and coach just like he had Cousins or Darnold out there.
Well, unfortunately he can’t do that. Things that are instinctual for Cousins and even Darnold right now, McCarthy has to think through. Things they would see and immediately act on, he has to work out mentally. So he he really has to accept that he doesn’t have a Cousins or a Darnold. He has a guy with two NFL games under his belt, and years of development ahead of him.
Probably should have played him a bit more in preseason, IMO.
Yeah… Sean McVay (KOC’s mentor) doesn’t like risking his starters in preseason, and KOC follows this model.
I think playing a young QB in the preseason though is helpful.
Yeah, it’s understandable for risk, but IMO you have to get some real game reps or you look like this.
Amen
The team isn’t off to a great start, and yes, it may be a year of transition and learning. In KOC’s first years, he had a QB who was a seasoned vet, who could run an NFL offense competently and then another vet, who was a lot more talented than folks gave him credit for. Now, it’s a different game. For the first time, KOC has a QB with no experience.
Thielen says he and the whole team believe in McCarthy.
So, what a horseshit showing last night. I like KOC, but he deserves a lot of the blame today. He is doing JJ no favors with those long developing routes that he keeps calling. JJ will keep getting killed back there if something doesn’t change. Enough with the 5 step drops every damn time. I can’t recall any sweep plays being called against that fierce pass rush last night. C’mon Kevin, you need to adjust your play calling.
Yep.
Got to change it up if it isn’t working.
But KOC can be pretty stubborn in that regard.
“This is going to be a process for our team,” coach Kevin O’Connell said. “Our young quarterback is going to make some plays. He’s going to make some unbelievable throws. … And then, other times, he’s going to have an attempt and just miss something a little long, and we will go back and try to fix it. Sometimes, the fundamentals are going to be right, the technique is going to be right, but he’s learning on the fly right now. The way you overcome that is by the full group’s execution level being to a certain standard that we can go try to compete and win with.”
Does that “process” involve not running the ball from the 1-yd line or not going for 4th-and-1 when down 2 scores in the 4th after trying a long bomb on 3rd down? KOC is very dumb at times.
I don’t think KOC has ever had a QB starting his very first games ever, under him. He has always had QB’s with some game experience. Might be a factor, might not.
KOC has been making dumb calls like that the past 3 years. I don’t think it has much to do with those instances above I mentioned. Trying to be “unpredictable” and just need to run for a yard in some way, shape, or form. Should be easy enough, but for the Vikings, for whatever reason, it isn’t. Most other teams can just exert their will and get that yard whenever they want. For some reason, we can’t or don’t even try.
LOL…
They only scored 6.
6-2 final????
Sure…..
Looking for a bounceback, and playing at home, Bengals without their starting QB.
I guess…
Didn’t browning beat us before when he had to step in for Burrow? He is no slouch
Yes.
Browning will sling it all over the field with those receivers he has, which will be a problem for our secondary. He will also throw interceptions, so we’ll have to take advantage of his mistakes.
Can the MLB force the Pohlads to sell the Twins?
https://sports.yahoo.com/article/expect-less-payroll-crumbling-mn-163337397.html
We wish.
Technically they could if it was bad enough I think.
And as bad as it is it has not reached that point yet.
Thielen says he’s got full confidence that McCarthy will learn and improve quickly.
“He’s built for that,” Thielen said. “I think that’s why they fell in love with him in the draft process and why we all are so confident in him — because he’s legitimately built for that. So it’s going to be a process as a team, like it is every year.”
Thielen is good with the press. He said similar things about Bryce Young.
Did our offense look ready to play this week or last? This is on coaching more than QB play.
Or at least coaching that doesn’t help out our young QB much.
When a QB doesn’t know where to go with the ball, they take off running, or make bad throws. So far, that’s the M.O. of our QB. McCarthy was ineffective at his position last night, and in the first game too for the most part.
I will grant the rest of the offense didn’t play very well.
McCarthy has thrown the ball 20 times in his first game, and 21 times last night. KOC isn’t putting the ball in his hands and letting him lead the offense, till they’re way behind in the 4th quarter. Why?
And that’s the problem. He certainly had no problem in putting the ball in Nick Mullins hands. Open the offense and let this kid play, and learn. If he throws three TD’s and three INT’s so be it – at least we score more than. six points and the kid can learn from mistakes.
He won’t learn by protecting him. This isn’t Michigan and if he is going to be a top notch QB, he has to learn.
We do have a 40 mil WR and a 20 mil TE as well as many other assets.
And Thielen…
The one thing I have learned on this site is you can’t make excuses for the QB..It is always the QBs fault. Good and Great QBs elevate their team beyond their circumstances – its of course bullshit, but that is what I have learned on this site.
What I have learned on this site, is that the QB is NEVER to blame.
It’s a team game and is always not the QB’s fault.
Of course, that’s bullshit, but it is what I have learned from some on this site.
That’s a lie… no one has ever professed that, ever, on this site .
That game sucked
Agreed.
Frustrating game to watch.
Injuries, poor O-line play, rookie QB made rookie QB mistakes, some bad play calling and zero adjustments. Lots to work on and fix.
At least the Defense showed up, not dominating but fighting hard until they wore out. Looks like we catch a break next week with their QB injury. Well that is until we get shredded by the back-up.
Oh and FTP!
McCarthy needs a little more help with play calling IMO. Also, we had a third string guy playing left tackle in front of him, and honestly O’Neill didn’t have a good night either.
If you really want to understand the difference in the game last night, it was this. The Falcons ran the ball for 218 yards, and we tallied 78 yards rushing. Penix simply handed the ball off to his RB’s and they got yards.
for a “depleted” offensive line that i was reading about, for atlanta, they sure MOVED our Dline back multiple yards before any contact with the running back was had.
very disappointing it looks like our RB’s have to adjust and juke almost at the line of scrimmage on alot of runs and the falcons MAN HANDLED our “vaunted Dline”
Would help if pace could tackle as well
ooof SO MANY MISSED TACKLES
pace and metellus
We’ve been playing with a crappy oline for years ( remember out last set of guards and center). And we haven’t been a great running team for a while.
For some reason KOC doesn’t seem to be “calling” the game like he usually does. Offense ust loks out of synch.
I am starting to believe that the line issues are not fully on the players. Maybe our Oline coaches suck.
Actually I am not just starting to believe it, I have been saying it for a few years now, going back to Zimmer.
I agree. Other teams seem to get serviceable play from backups, we can’t even get that from our starters.
I have been saying this since he got here. He needs to let his offensive coordinator call the plays and he needs to be a head coach. How many times did JJ come off the field and KOC spent 5-10 minutes talking to him. That is not his job that is the job of the OC and QB coach. If you don’t have faith in your coordinators than get coordinators you do have confidence in.
another observation from being at the game, there are some delusional fans who actually think if they don’t scream for EVERY PORTION of the game, they are letting the team down and are not helping the team in any way.
i’m glad i went to the game last night, to remind me why i don’t like going to Vikings games.
does JJ have small hands? he’s fumbling and bumbling the ball like crazy.
goodness does he have a penchant to either over throw or under throw the ball.
our oline sucks.
our play calling sucks.
currently, our QB sucks.
not much to be happy for, at the moment.
He does have small hands. I saw the same thing.
could be another Culpepper issue.
i couldn’t see what happened on that 4th down play (which shouldn’t have been run to begin with WHAT THE HECK), but then i heard he fumbled the snap.
he’s….AS OF NOW, in over his head
It seems like all of our passing plays are long developing ones, or JJ is having trouble going through his reads or something. Why don’t we have some short passing plays in the playbook? Some that JJ can just take a 2 step drop back and get rid of it, especially when we have a backup and a backup to a backup on the O line.
the falcons killed us on slants. i don’t think i have ever seen us run a slant once in 2 years.
Those easy 4yd catches don’t exist to KOC.
Did you see my friend Mike at the game? He was wearing a Vikings jersey.
THAT WAS YOUR FRIEND?!?!?!
I’m pre-ordering Vikings SB shirts. Who wants one?
Laughing
for 2029?
Very disappointed in the Oline last night, especially at the start of the game. We are down a Tackle but for the rest of the group to struggle so much surprised me – I was expecting the Vikes to be able to run the ball.
JJ wasn’t good either. He needs to play much better.
My nephew is a Falcon’s fan – he was pointing out that JJ is 3 years younger than Penis – point is we need to be a bit patient with the young man before we write him off. The truth is we have no idea if he is going to be good or not.
I have a feeling there will be a lot of growing pains with JJ. Hopefully he will grow fast.
I give him three seasons. That was ugly last night. Missing wide open Nailor in the 4th was bad. He can improve. The pains of a rookie contract are offset by the money saved.
Except, the o line still sucks……
He’s in his second season. It shouldn’t take three more to show he can run an NFL offense effectively. In his first two games, he’s not shown me much in that regard. He’s shown he’s athletic and can make some big throws at times. That ain’t gonna cut it in the end.
I agree. I am counting this(season2) year and next as three seasons.
He should have this figured out, or at least be showing consistent improvement or time to try again.
I expect he will improve throughout this season, and I expect him to play better in December than he is now.
I also would expect significant improvement next season as well.
I have not written him off. If, after three seasons, he is not getting it done, you save money by not overpaying after the rookie deal, and try to find a long term QB.
I think he will be fine. Just not there yet.
The jury is out. A year of studying the offense, attending QB meetings, and game plan reviews, then lots of training camp practices, don’t actually measure up to game reps. They just don’t. McCarthy has shown he’s just the same as any young QB though. He’s not all that special… yet. He’s not yet a guy who can beat teams with his brain. He’s a good athlete, who can throw a ball.
Time will tell if he is anything other than that.
I don’t even know about the “throw a ball” part. Some of his passes were atrocious yesterday.
Yep, he seems to throw a flat, or line drive ball too often. Needs to work on his touch. It looks to me like he kinda looks awkward when he throws sometimes. Footwork maybe?
Yeah, accuracy for some short routes has been off. Maybe.
JJ is getting the blame. He needs to play better for sure, but I blame KOC and his awful gameplans.
Almost every other team can move the ball down the field a bit, but both games have started terribly. JJ had no time on most of his drop backs last night. Maybe do a play action roll out? Maybe ditch the long-developing crossing routes (which is something I say every week)?
And why are we the only team on the planet that refuses to throw quick slants???
Oh, and stop getting cute with running plays. Just run the ball down their throat with Mason. Man up.
Yeah, esp. from the 1 yard line! Why can’t we score from there like every other team routinely does.
KOC made some dumb calls yesterday, which is why I don’t think he’s as good of a coach as most others. His blunders undo some of the good things about him.
Regarding JJ…. That was some of the worst football I’ve ever watched. It’s going to be hard to watch more games this year if that play continues. I just hope he’s learning and improving week to week in some way.
Correct. He’s a good dude, and I’m sure the players love him. But he is not the offensive genius people say he is.
I thin he is a good coach. But for some reason he is not play calling like he has in the past. Not sure what he is trying to do.
That game last night was ugly. It is to be expected to have good and bad games this year, so I am not to upset about it. Can’t wait for Darrisaw to get back and hopefully Kelly’s concussion isn’t too bad and is back for Sunday.
Jurgens did a fair job, when he came in, but our back up tackles are not ready to play.
I went to bed at the half cuz I need to take wifey to doctor appointments today. Maybe Vikes should come with. They need medical intervention!
JJ does not seem to have much touch when he has time to throw. The ball is coming at 60 mph so you better be ready.
Rough night. O Line is in shambles, defense finally got tired. JJ played very poorly while running for his life. I expect some more injuries to be announced today. I was surprised he got up after the sack/fumble the way his knee bent.
Team is showing why the over/under is 8 wins after 14 last season.
That wasn’t pretty yesterday, to put it mildly. A ton of injuries don’t help, of course, but the offense, including JJ, looked abysmal. That overthrow was especially bad.
KOC has his work cut out for him, defense did quite OK, mostly. On to the Burrow-less Bengals, then.
During training camp we heard several times that he needs to put air under the ball, that long miss was a case in point.
JJ does not look good.
Looks like a long season ahead of us.
To be expected with a first year starter. Also injuries.
Last night they said multiple times how bad Marino and Aikman looked their first year as starters. Hopefully JJ is one of those and not one of the many that never recovered from a bad first year.
Peyton threw 28 interceptions his rookie year.
JJ three zero
This isn’t his rookie year. He’s in his second year.
