Vikings News

Saturday’s game was extremely boring, and sloppy. Three weeks from today this team goes into Chicago to try and start the season 1-0. I like how the defense looks. I have questions about the offense. Week 1 will be a good test. I honestly expect the offense to improve as the season moves on. The IOL will take some time to gel. Hoping they can start fast.

Other News

I actually watched the New Heights Taylor Swift podcast, since my wife and daughter are both big swifties, it was that or not talk to them for awhile. I would expect some people’s heads to explode if when she is announced as the performer at this years Super Bowl halftime show. I also think that would be entertaining. I still like the Swiftamine bit from SnL. If the NFL is smart (and they DO know how to make money), they will find a way to entice her to do the halftime show. It would create the best ratings ever, even if the game is shit again.

NFL News

Caleb Williams (crybaby) did look very good last night. I do not really like that, but good for the Bears if they finally hit on a QB. Time will tell.

FTP!

Media Selection – I do love this skit.

In a stunning and alarming development, U.S. Attorney Judge Jeanine Pirro confirmed that a woman traveling from New York to Washington, D.C., was arrested for plotting to assassinate President Donald Trump. According to Pirro, the suspect “was working to have him eliminated.” She is now in custody and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The left remains committed to killing their political opponents.

Impressive TD throw there by Burrow. Threaded it in between a bunch of people in the end zone. No pressure on him at all, but still an impressive throw.

The falcons has released wide receiver DJ Chark. Could be a decent option for the purple. Our wr room is getting bare, especially first 3 weeks. He’s 28, second round pick, and our current wr coach was his in 2019 when he had his best season.

I honestly didn’t know he was a falcon, played some for the chargers last season I think. Hasn’t had a good career really, but 73 catches for 1003 yards in 2019. He’s big, fairly young yet, and fast from what I’ve read.

Chark has been productive enough throughout his career that I thought he’d be in the running for a roster spot after Darnell Mooney’s injury, but it just didn’t happen for him. With Chris Blair, Dylan Drummond, Nick Nash, Casey Washington, and David Sills all impressing in training camp and with Blair, Drummond, and Nash having big moments in preseason while Washington and Sills seem lined up for roster spots, Chark was left to play late and never really caught on. He’ll hope to hook on with another team, and we’ll wish him well wherever he lands.

Finally found time to get away from my zoo keeper duties to read today’s many posts. Thought the ‘discussion’ on truth was interesting. So much so that I went and looked up some true meanings of truth. Are we living in a simulation?

Oooohhh! If you like this topic and have 55 minutes to listen to a podcast, one of the hosts of the Stuff You Should Know podcast, Josh Clark, did a series called The End Of The World with Josh Clark. The whole series was awesome (but pretty depressing- WARNING) and he actually added an epilogue specific to the Simulation Argument.

The 50 cent tour of this theory is that we’re overwhelmingly likely (almost infinitely) to be actually in a simulation if a civilization became capable of creating conscious simulations.

The federal crackdown on D.C. crime has, so far, resulted in nearly 400 arrests, including 135 illegal aliens and 21 firearms illegally obtained, which were seized as of Monday. The head of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) union praised the federal intervention as a “critical stopgap” amid what he described as “out of control” crime. Netflix caught KO ripping into the team after the Eggos game in 2023.

“We’re 0-2. We’ve lost by a combined nine points and we’ve lost the turnover battle 7-1. When we talk about, ‘It’s all about the ball,’ it’s gotta f****** mean something to you. Everything inside you,” O’Connell angrily preached to the team behind closed doors. “That’s just purely holding the organization in your hands and not caring enough. We’ve got the leadership in this room to fix it. We’re gonna get this s*** right and we’re gonna start rolling like a freight train.”

Hmmmm…. I saw this:

Spike Lee’s documentary on Colin Kaepernick was scrapped, but the decision had NOTHING to do with pressure from the NFL, ESPN’s longtime business partner, sources tell TMZ Sports.

The news initially broke over the weekend when the award-winning filmmaker was asked about the project while walking a red carpet, saying, “It’s not coming out. That’s all I can tell you.”

Soon after, Lee and the network released a joint statement, citing “certain creative differences” as the reason for cutting bait.

I have a logic question.

Trump said he would be disappointed if he left Alaska without a cease fire.

He left Alaska without a cease fire but now he and his team claim the Alaskan meeting was a huge success.

This doesn’t compute. I think they are embarrassing themselves by trying to say it was a great meeting.

Thoughts?

That’s not what Trump said at all. He said he wanted to see if there was a possibility of a ceasefire, and ending the war. He wanted to personally sit with Putin and see what the possibilities were. He said he would know quickly if there was no chance for peace, and he would leave. Then he stayed, he met with Putin for 3 hours, and he thinks an end to the war is possible.

He stated that the purpose of the meeting with Putin was to set up the next meeting. Putin is playing hardball and the ‘long game’. Trump has economic cards to play but Putin plays the ‘nuke’ card.

The nuke card is a loser. We can destroy everything in Russia sooner than they could reach us and Putin knows this. He would be dead, and his whole country destroyed if he decided to play the nuke card. It’s a complete loser. Trump knows this and Putin knows this. That rhetoric is to fear monger the populace. In reality, it’s a guarantee Russia would be totally destroyed forever.

Russia has no cards. None. We hold all the cards. Trump wants real, lasting peace. He wants our countries to find a way to get there. Putin doesn’t, but he has no choice.

There are no winners in thermonuclear war.

Did you know that at its peak the US had over 31,000 nuclear warheads in the mid 60’s? Can you imagine? Enough firepower to bring the earth back to the insects and algae at least five times over, in the hands of a single country.

He would suffer total destruction long before we suffered any hits. There are only 9 countries with nuclear arms, and 6 of them would be pointed at Russia.

That’s not true DE. By default, Trump could not garner a ceasefire on his own. That isn’t actually possible. He said he wanted a ceasefire, and an end to the war. He said he would be disappointed if it wasn’t possible, and Russia would suffer severe consequences if that was the case. He went there to see if peace was possible. He said he would know if it wasn’t very quickly.

That’s not the point.
The point is Trump did say he wouldn’t be thrilled without one.
Call me a liar all you want.
You are just purposely being an idiot.

Official Transcript:

Baier: So what are your expectations? I mean, is the goal of this meeting in Alaska to walk away with a ceasefire?

Donald Trump:

So when you talk about deals, it’s all I do. My whole life, I do deals. Uh, you never know. You don’t like to have too many expectations. You wanna — Because you have to weave, and bob, and you don’t know what’s gonna happen. Uh, but we’re gonna go and find out. I’d like to see a ceasefire. Uh, I wouldn’t be thrilled if I didn’t get it, but everyone says, “You’re not gonna get the ceasefire.

Both can be true, and a Vikings fan should know this. The Vikings can be successful, by winning a game. They can also be disappointed in the win, because the other team stepped on their nuts and lost the game.

Trump can be disappointed that a cease fire was not signed, but feel successful because a dialogue was started that may lead to an end of the war in Ukraine.

MSNBC has finally located the source of its declining ratings and viewership and is actively taking steps to ameliorate them. They’ve decided the culprit is the name itself: MSNBC. By year’s end, it will be rebranded as MS (My Source) NOW (News, Opinion, World).

Joe Scarborough and Andrew Sorkin discussed the rebranding on “Morning Joe,” decrying the rebranding as “entrepreneurial.” Sorkin went as far as to say he liked the change because he thinks “it does have the sort of independence that actually gets away in some ways from even the idea of legacy media.” Scarborough even said that MSNBC is “moving in a direction beyond corporate media.”

So NBC has decided to take the “NBC” out of their name…

I’ve worked in small business for a long time and even there when there is a name change you will have some people (especially those involved in the process) that will get all excited because of the name change. Because apparently a new name means everything is new. The reality is that if nothing changes with the actual content, the name change is meaningless. And often the reality is that the only thing that changes is the name.

The male cheerleaders are featured heavily in the FartBook rotation my wife views. I truly thought it was BS of the highest order.

I understand male cheerleaders as in HS and college that provide the muscle and anchor for the cheerleader aerial routines but let’s just say I’m not a fan of this latest trend. I will say that during a televised broadcast any time in the last twenty years I might see a brief shot or two of the cheerleaders for a total of twenty seconds during the entire broadcast, unlike the lingering creepy shots of the 80’s and 90’s…watch that trend be reversed now with Hughie and co being featured heavily in the down time broadcast. Yep, that’s work. My daughter bought travel trailer of some sort, for very little money. She has an acre of land, and wanted to put a place to sleep and hang out on it. Once the trailer was delivered, she found out it was in bad shape. She and her boyfriend (from Belgium) tore it apart over a period of three summers and replaced the flooring, the plumbing, carpets, drapes, some electrical stuff etc. They bought stuff on sale, and even found things at estate sales and garage and yard sales to refit it. It looks great now, and everything works.

She amazes me actually.

Unfortunately this is our home, not a trailer. I used the term trailer trash instead of white trash because I didn’t want to be racist (and yes, that is sarcasm). But yes, my wife, with a lot of help from her sister, found some cabinets already off from Facebook Marketplace. My SIL is quite handy and will be putting in the new cabinets for us. The evening after they bought the cabinets, my SIL was here measuring and designing already. She gets excited about stuff like that.

Actually doesn’t look too bad under the sink. Now all that crap you have stacked on the counter…that would not fly at my home, not one little bit. If I open the mail and leave one sheet of paper on a flat surface anywhere near our kitchen or dining room or living room I’ll get the “can you come here, please…what is this…is this where that belongs…let me hear you say it…where does it belong…so why isn’t it in the office???”

My wife is very particular about the house too. I’m thankful for it, but she has also chastised me at times. I tell her the same thing every time. “I’m not in the habit of doing this. Once in a while I leave something out in the wrong place. Give me a break with the damn attitude woman”.

I appreciate my wife, never gonna take crap from her. Just the way I am.

Inside the walls is her domain. I do get testy when she grabs a tool like a screwdriver from my workbench and puts it back willy nilly, then slams the drawer shut so all the screwdrivers mix together like peanut butter and chocolate. That’s when you get the “you were in there last” line, uh huh.

The Teacher has lots of stuff for decorating and organizing and such. Most of that doesn’t have anything to do with me. She made herself a list of chores and I leave them to her. I ‘help’ as in move stuff when she is vacuuming or fold and put away my clothes but the rest of the time I just stay out of way.

My wife is a stacker. It drives me nuts. However, I am cutting her some slack right now because of the chaos going on in the kitchen. Plus, in addition to all of this going on, it is her first day back at school, so her time will now be limited to working on the project. I told her the other day that I hate living in flux. Unfortunately the flux is going to be going on for awhile.

According to OTC, the Vikings currently have $26.4 million in 2025 cap space and 90 players on the active roster. That means 37 players will be released or put on IR. If all 37 of these players are the league minimum, that means the Vikings will gain at least $37 million in cap space. The Vikings are also allowed up to 17 practice squad players, with salaries varying from $200K to $300K each. The high-end cost would be $5.1 million for PS players.

$26 million plus $37 million less $5 million is a whopping $58 million in cap space AFTER the roster is set. There will likely be dead money paid, so I assume $50 million in cap space for 2025.

KAM will have the ammunition of getting any player, via trade or free agency, he feels is necessary.

With Vikings currently OVER the cap for 2026 in the $66 million range, KAM will have various options available to him. He could roll over the entire $50 million surplus into 2026, virtually wiping out the 2026 deficit. (I assume a few cuts this year will improve some 2026 cap space.)

He could front load and redo some of the deals from 2026 into 2025.

Bottom line to me is, I think the Vikings have done an excellent job managing the salary cap the last few years.

I don’t think that all 90 current salaries count towards the cap number.

Total cap is $294 million, top 51 is $241 million.
So I believe the $26 million for all of the available cap space is mostly accurate.

Spotrac has top 51 cap space of $28 million.
Not sure what that means.

Maybe OTC is completely wrong.

Spotrac says that with the top 51 they currently have about $28 million in cap space for 2025. Unless there is a cut to somebody with a large contract, I would expect that is approximately what they go into the regular season with.

I think you’re missing the $12 mill in dead money for this year. With just a quick glance at the contracts on the team, the only ones that really create more cap space would be CJ Ham (about $2.5 mill) and maybe you’d consider Tavierre Thomas at about $1 mill in savings.

I’m probably reading OTC wrong.
Two different ways of presenting information.

I would still expect around $25 million plus in cap space for 2025.

I am not sure how much you can glean from Saturdays game about how our Offense is coming along. There were no starters on the field that I know of* just a bunch of 2nd and 3 stringers fight for a roster spot.
*game was ‘blocked’ here so I didn’t get to have to watch it.
Oh and FTP.

The first 2 drives the Patriots had most of their starters on offense against our 3rd stringers. It’s a preseason game. The most that can be determined is how did individuals on the bubble make or break their opportunity to make the team. Of course, all of the pundits will babble on about how sloppy the Vikings looked and how WONDERFUL the Bears looked in their game.

Yeah,
I pointed out that to NLNVF last night after he said how much better The CryBaby looked. He had one read against 2nd and 3rd stringers and since it was open he was better? Not sure that translates vs a starting defense but people will see what they want I guess.

Yeah, it was interesting that the Fox announcers were making such a huge deal about wide open receivers against a vanilla, preseason defensive game plan.

Caleb will be on his back a lot more week one.

The Bears offense was indeed working against second and third stringers last night, but Caleb was making quick, excellent reads. He also threw the ball with accuracy and touch downfield. Yes, every QB can make those throws in the NFL, but what Caleb lacked last year, was processing. You insist he made one read throws. He didn’t completely do that though. He saw the defense, read the correct part of the field post snap, and made the correct read on the linebacker drops and safeties. He didn’t do any of that last year. Mostly he just improvised, and ran around like a true rookie, depending on his athleticism. Williams looked a lot more like an NFL QB last night.

I think we have to be careful with putting too much stock in analysis of preseason games.

The same goes for McCarthy last year and this year. The game will be very different when all starters are in there and the coaches are focused on winning games instead of mainly focused on evaluating talent.

I’m not putting any stock in pre-season games. I think I’m usually the one tempering any pre-season or training camp hype. I did see a big change in Williams play last night though, so I highlighted that. He looked solid, and he did make actual reads. He didn’t look like that last year. When he faces a real defense, disguising coverages, and bringing different rushes, his processing will be tested. But last night he went to the right place with the ball on every play.

We would have enough for a down payment and fees. Might be able to cover most of the monthly mortgage payments. After that the place would have to pay for itself, hence the rent/lease. No family nearby who needs it and can ‘take over’.
