Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
Happy post-win Monday, everyone! Hey, it wasn’t pretty, but the Vikings still managed to escape New Jersey with a W. The Vikings defense shut down the Giants offense for the entire game and only allowed 3 points on the day, which is good because the Vikings offense contributed 10 points to the Giants. An “interception” (I use quotes because Nailor was responsible for it, he bobbled a good throw directly into the defenders hands) led to 3 Giants points, and a sack/strip/recovery/TD gifted 7 more to Jersey.
Drops by the wide receivers plagued the offense early, and although McCarthy was playing a fairly good game, the offense could not build any momentum. A comical missed block by O’Neil (he was blocking a ghost while a free defender had a free shot at the QB) was the main cause of the McCarthy fumble. That play led to McCarthy leaving the game with a hand injury and not returning.
Brosmer came in and did a decent job of running the offense, and got just enough points to get the lead, and the defense held for the win. Mason also left with an injury, and it looked like Aaron Jones was playing with a fairly significant injury as well. C Ryan Kelly left with a concussion, and one would have to think that he may seriously consider retirement. The injuries are obviously the biggest concern as the Vikings try to finish the season strong against the Lions and Packers.
The defense was really fun to watch yesterday, the offense was not so much fun to watch. It’s a short rest week as the team plays the Lions on Christmas day, only 4 days from now, so who knows what the starting lineup will look like for the game. I hope McCarthy is able to play, he was just starting to build some positive momentum. It would be nice to see him add two more good performances to end the year strong.

Colts drive down and get a TD to bring the score to 34-27.
Not to worry, more TD for the 49s. 41-27.
Now 48-27.
Yeah Colts got run the F over…
I think ‘trucked’ is the appropriate term here. #grin
Purdy with his 4th TD pass… Niners up 31-17.
NFL will try to keep it close for bit longer.
They have commercials to sell.
Niners marching right down the field again. Colt defense can’t stop them.
Pineiro 64 yard field goal attempt is no good, hit the crossbar to end the half.
The Deny-er has a bit of ‘Late Sonny Jurgenson look about him. #grin.
24-17 at the half.
He does actually.
Watching Old Man Rivers out there chucking pineapples for TDs, I don’t want to hear no more about how mechanics matter.
Rivers drives the offense down to get a chip shot field goal with 17 seconds left in the half. Niners up 24 – 17.
That was no DPI,
NFL must want this game close so they can show all of the commercials.
Field goal Niners. 24-14.
4th and 6…
3rd and 6 at the Colts 7.
Two minute warning.
Purdy gets hit, ball pops up, the TE catches it behind him, and turns it into a 3 yard game.
‘3 yard game’??
#grin
Laughing… hell getting old…
Welcome to the ‘Old Guys Rule’ club.
I used to have some old guys I hung out with in D.C. We called ourselves the ROMEO’s. Had jackets made up and everything.
Retired Old Men Eating Out…
Sounds like fun.
Niners get a sack on Rivers, and force a punt. First down at their own 18.
7:09 left in the half.
5 TD passes already tonight with 9:36 left in the first half.
Purdy with his 3rd TD pass tonight!!!
Niners marching right down the field again. First and 10 at the Colts 17.
Rivers with another TD pass! Perfect throw into the end zone! 14-14.
3rd and goal from the 16.
Rivers moves the team down into the red zone… then gets a holding call. First and goal from the 18. End of the quarter.
Purdy to McCaffrey for a 2 yard TD.
14-7 Niners
Timeout Niners.
Second and goal at the 2.
First and goal at the three.
Colts fumble the kickoff return… Niners already down to the 9 yard line.
Niners strike back quickly. Purdy 3/3 for 54 yards and a TD. Tied 7-7.
Rivers on the opening drive 5/7 for 73 yards and a TD. Impressive.
Two false starts on the opening drive…
Rivers tried a deep ball on the first play of the game, hoping to catch the Niners asleep at the wheel… no bueno.
Hope the old, bounty gate denier, gets trucked by the 49ers.
Wins are a QB stat.
Yep. 100%
Everybody knows this tweet is true.
Idiotic…
here’s the SUPER HIGH PASS that went off Nailors hands for an INT….
https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1psdga1/highlight_vikings_jalen_nailor_spills_the_pass_to/
Me dumb dumb
i still like you.
also, nailor had another drop that was for an int/pick 6, negated..
CATCH THE BLEEPIN BALL
I am waiting for him to get in a better mood before I hit him up for free gouger advice…I think Christmas makes him grumpy, but I like him too.
So I saw this and wondered what Mayfield was looking at when he threw this ball.
Thought Evans was going to go the other way.
I bet most people don’t even know the Chiefs aren’t in Kansas…
So, if you watch this in super slow, JJ is trying to throw the ball in the ground prior to getting hit. He fumbles before he gets hit, apparently because his hand was already injured and he could not grip it properly. The screen wasn’t there – he was trying to throw it in the ground but he lost it. What damn pussy for going out there with an injured hand!
Kevin Seifert on X: “Video of the J.J. McCarthy sack/fumble reveals an effort to “dirt” the ball when the screen is covered. But the ball slips from his injured hand before Brian Burns makes contact on the sack. Still a fumble because the ball is out before his hand starts moving forward. https://t.co/JEWsfpAWmz” / X
Oh yes I see what a trooper mm hmm
LOL
Arkansas Gov Sarah Huckabee Sanders fires back at Christmas critics | Fox News
Governor Sanders……stud.
Speaking of flagfests, how TF was there not a DPI flag on Keisean Nixon on Saturday on the DJ Moore walkoff TD? Never looked back at the ball, clearly running into the receiver, arms up on his shoulders. What a travesty.
Almost looked as though the DB was getting a piggyback ride from the receiver.
The NFL Referees call what they want when they want.
It all depends on ‘the script’.
I love bad wins way more than I like good looking losses. F that. GIMME A WIN BABY
JJ looked OK… mostly meh. Liked the running ability tbh
Jefferson with another early drop, idk what it is with JJets and JJ but seems like they might just hate each other idk. Glad to see he started catching and running damn hard later on. I DO NOT want Jet to leave
Defense still rock solid. If our O could have been even competent for a few more games it’s a playoff team. However that playoff team likely loses early but, refer to my first comment (I like winning)
Big Stu Rules
Not much to add to this except that JJ (WR) is not the only one dropping passes.
True. Addison dropping, JJwr dropping, Nailor dropping. I have my complaints about JJqb but the guys gotta help the kid out a bit
Yup.
JJ (QB) would have looked a whole lot better if the majority of those passes had been caught.
He looked pretty good outside those drops and the injury.
Don’t forget the beautiful pick 6 saved by defense lining up two mm offsides.
The offsides was a weird call.
Was JJ’s pass bad, or was it another drop? Never caught the replay.
High pass
That stinks.
There is something to the dropped passes. Some are a little behind, some are a little late. But as a whole the receivers seemed to have an easier time catching the Brosmer balls.
Saw several passes too high yesterday, I know one caused the Pick-6……where was the ball located on the other INT? I never saw the whole play, but I heard it was tipped to the DB.
in and out of nailors hands. very good pass.
Thank you. I missed the play, and then missed the replay.
LOL watch the highlight again please….
here, i will link it.
threw it too high? WTF are you smoking
https://www.giants.com/video/paulson-adebo-intercepts-j-j-mccarthy-giants-vs-vikings-highlights
Sorry I am guilty of not reading North’s post and thinking it was the same as the post below from manly.
Man I wish I was smoking something other than brain cells.
heyyyy
Sup?
Interesting outfit you have there.
And by ‘interesting’ I mean strange/weird.
Hot take of the day. Burrow and Lamar Jackson are injury prone; the Bengals and the Ravens should move on from them.
Logical ‘Hot Take’.
Don’t forget Mahomes now, too.
Let me get my hole poker out, poke some holes in that hot take……
Lamar has missed 12 games across 8 seasons. 1.5 games/season.
Joe has missed 24 across 6 seasons. 4 games/season.
McFragile has missed 24 games (thus far) across 2 seasons, and potentially the remaining 2 this season. 12 games/season (potentially 13/season).
McFragile is in a league of his own.
thank you
How dare you poke holes in my faulty analogy by using logic and facts!!
You are dead to me……
I am so proud of my nephew right now. Very shy. No dates in high school. Got shot down by the girls he asked to prom. Etc.
He has now gone on his second date with a girl who pursued him, and she’s not gross either. Even if it goes poorly, it is still a good experience for him.
Nice. Hopefully it’s a good experience for him!
two dates??? one more date and he can get lucky!!!
I kid, I kid! Good for him!
3 dates = ‘getting lucky’??
I didn’t know that rule when I was in HS. But then I went to Catholic HS so the rules might have been different.
Catholic girls are notoriously fast……
damn right
Then I was notoriously slow.
likely nothing notorious about it.
Just slow
and that’s ok
I have often thought that if I had a chance to do that time in my life over again I suspect/expect that I would have just made different mistakes.
definitely agree on this one. I would do make a different but equally poor decision on most things. God’s plan imo
I was about to say something about a “Sure Thing” but you’ve got it covered……
Wren did indicate his nephew is post HS.
Christmas shopping for grownups is okay, but it is a lot more fun to buy toys for kids.
whatcha gonna get me?
Way better to shop for kids.
But I shop childishly for Holidays/BDs. Gag gifts are the norm, even if a ‘real gift’ is also included.
Should know today what the prognosis is for McCarthy…
So in other words ‘anything is possible’.
Seems like…
You are so pessimistic.
Better than he has been lately.
Maybe he had a Snickers??
I’m just preparing you guys for the ol, “trainers and medical staff are keeping him on injury roster as a precautionary measure”
“…better send in Wentz’s corpse instead.”
Giants at the Raiders next week… two teams with 2-13 records. Race to the basement.
Classic ‘Toilet Bowl’ game.
Not sure the last Giants game – a 16 -13 loss – is going to make any HOF reels for great football.
Jaxson Dart has been a media darling. Lots of praise and predictions for greatness. While he may eventually be a good NFL QB, he’s not lighting it up. Obviously there are many factors that set a QB up for success (or failure) so I guess we’ll see if any of the pundits are savants.
Dart – I don’t know, rookie QB’s,meh.
I was just having a little fun as you were contemplating the Giants/Raiders. Not like our game yesterday against the Giants was anything to write home about.
He needs to be done. 3 concussions this season and the last while wearing a guardian cap. His family needs to step in here and protect him from himself if he can’t come to this decision himself.
We seem to have a couple of ‘half decent’ backups, so not a big drop-off if he sits/retires.
Pretty sure if we beat the Lions on Christmas, that will eliminate them from the playoffs.
do we have a chance to eliminate both the lions and packers??
No, one of those two will make the playoffs. We might have a chance to decide which one though.
I was mulling that over down below in the comments. Unfortunately the Packers could still get in even if they lose out. It would depend on what the Lions, Panthers and Bucs do. The Packers tie kind of gives them the edge over all of those teams.
They are basicly a game and a half up with two to play. Pretty tough to keep them out.
Then again if they have clinched by our game with them then they will be locked and have nothing to play for, need Love to get healthy, etc and so will be focused on getting ready for playoff and not us.
Yes but that begs the question, do we want to?
A win vs the Loins clinches for FTP. If we lose to the Loins and beat FTP then the Loins have a chance. Lose both and FTP are in.
Is it better to keep FTP out, they would have to lose this week and the Loins have to win their last game. Of course if draft position is the priority then just losing both is the play.
It’s too bad that we don’t play on Sunday. FTP play on Saturday night again, so we would’ve known their result. But no, the greedy nfl has us playing on Xmas day.
Let the lions win. Start Brosmer, go belly up.
Then beat FTP to knock them out of the playoffs.
No guarantee if we lose to De-riot and then beat FTP that it would keep FTP out of the playoffs. I like the idea but just going out to win is usually the best play and whatever happens happens.
Yeah, I agree with that. I would like for the Vikings to win out, but I am fine if they go 0-2 these last two games.
Walking wounded. Adding another game to the schedule was stupid, and the NFL want so do that again and play 18 games.
Play to win, reduce the chance of aggravating career threatening injuries. If we lose then console ourself with better draft picks.
I can live with that.

JJ (QB) has not been ruled out as his X-ray was negative.
the way he reacted on the sideline when the trainer squeezed his hand, you’d have thought he got his entire hand cut off….
not only does he have a punchable face, but also a major baby.
Freezy correct again.
The Lions are reverting to the Loins and the Packers are being decimated by injury. We could potentially beat them both, but do we want to is the question. I would prefer to lose to the Lions and beat the Packers so that the Lions could potentially beat out the Packers for the last playoff spot.
If we could guarantee that I would be ok with it.
But FTP win next week or Loin lose the final week would get the Fudgers in and we can’t control either of those.
At least as I understand how things sit.
Just lose baby.

That’s a crazy stat.
Impressive!
SKOL!
all during a wasted and crap season.
classic minnesota
The caption up top was perfect “What was that?”
22 penalties, one offensive touchdown scored, 1 team had zero yards passing the 1st half. That game set professional football back years.
Aaron Jones is a warrior – playing hurt in a meaningless game to help his team win. He has my respect.
Justin Jefferson too – man he ran hard and took some contact to pick up some key first downs in this meaningless game – he always blocks hard – and he made 2 fantastic catches. No, DO NOT TRADE JUSTIN JEFFERSON.
I was pleased to see McFragile™ connect with JJ on that beauty 22 yard sideline toe tap on 3rd and 18. Those two have struggled in tandem all season.
