Random Thoughts
I know some of us have the day off today, and those of us in North Dakota, aka the Planet Hoth, are dealing with wind chills as low as 60 below zero. I really don’t plan to leave the house, although kiddo and I may head up to the gym to go for a run. Other than that, we’ll hunker down inside & play some Fortnite or something of the sort. Brrrrrr!!!!
Vikings Conversation
There are three void year dead cap hits that will go on the Vikings’ books today if said player is not extended or the deadline not extended:
Sam Darnold: $5 million
Stephon Gilmore: $2.3 million
Byron Murphy: $4.2 million
I don’t see any of those extensions happening today, so those void year dead cap hits will go on the Vikings’ books today. The only one that is remotely possible, in my opinion, is Murphy, and that’s maybe a 5% shot. However, I see Murphy getting re-signed by the Vikings during free agency, so hopefully he’s on the roster in 2025.

I just looked, and the salary cap hits for Dak Prescott & Cee Dee Lamb atr $89 million & $35 million, respectively. For those of you who went to public school, that adds up to $134 million. The salary cap for 2025 is projected to be $265 million to $275 million. They’re paying almost half their salary cap to two dudes.
The Cowboys are probably gonna suck, and I can’t wait.

Opened the back porch to let her out during a snowstorm to do her business. Snow came just about up to her head. She looked at me like, “are you kidding? Can’t I use the toilet like the rest of you?” Damn smart dog, probably could have.
Cat finally went out later on, but it was a quick trip.

The Teacher did it again, imported toilet paper.
Her membership at Sams Club was expiring and she isn’t going to renew. So since she gets free shipping for $50 orders she ordered 3 cases of TP (+ a bit more) since she likes theirs better than Costcos TP.
So we had 5 boxes show up from Calif 3 with TP which was the same cost as locally bought. It just seems strange to me that it works that way somehow.
Reminds me of the Canucks I saw at the Bellingham Costco with rear bumper dragging with all the milk cartons and petrol jerry cans they had full in the back of the SUVs.

My wife has ours on subscription from Amazon, shows up every month, 9 people in the house so this is just as cost effective as going to Walmart every month (although we do anyway) plus she has other stuff on subscription she likes that she can’t get here so I guess it works out.

Nope, there is an internal tank hidden somewhere that heats water (mine has no visible tank, it is sorta like a deflated beach ball resting on the floor).
Just a normal 120 V outlet, to run the pumps, water heater, seat warmer, lights, fart fan, seat opener and closer, etc…
There might be a few things that I am less interested in getting.
Other than ‘Trans Surgery’ I am not sure what they might be at the moment.
I think they lop off your tallywacker & glue some boobs on your chest. I assume they shave the area prior to gluing, or I’d be concerned that they wouldn’t bond.
Having boobs to play with 24-7 might be fun.
But not worth getting my tallywacker lopped off.
So that’s two things I am certainly not getting, trans surgery and a bidet.

I was in a minor fender bender this weekend. Not my fault, a guy lost control on the ice at an intersection and hit me on the driver side near the rear wheel. I didn’t think there was much damage to my vehicle but it wasn’t handling properly as I limped home with it, I think the suspension is probably messed up, rear panel is cracked.
Too bad it wasn’t my Subaru, I would be getting a new car.
AS I was reading it, I was trying to remember if it was you that had the issues with the Subaru. It never happens to the vehicle you want to get hit.
Not going to do Wrenage style movie reviews, but I will do a recommendation. We rented the Young Woman and the Sea. True story, well worth the time, I highly recommend it. They kept to the actual story fairly closely.
Did the young woman and the sea end up together?
That was my question. And how does that work? Does she live in a houseboat the rest of her life? What happens if the sea wants a divorce?

LaCanfora is the only media guy reporting this, almost every other source I’ve found says that McCarthy is on target in his recovery.
My guess is that LaCanfora is looking for clicks. I could be wrong, but that’s how I’m reading it. I’ve been following JJ’s recovery pretty closely, and this guy is either the ONLY informed journalist, or he’s full of shit. I’m leaning toward the latter and not the former.
Also, I find it hard to believe that a guy from the Washington Post has better info than the local beat guys.

190 mph wheelie. The technology for these guys to walk away from things like this is impressive as hell. The same driver rolled multiple times last year (maybe a couple years ago).

I don’t have enough time to waste to just sit and watch the whole thing but I like to have it on my phone while I work in the garage and then I watched the last quarter or so on the tv.
That’s why my friend calls it NAPCAR. He is more into sprint car and late model racing.

Spent last week with my 91 yo father in rehab, in Sartell, MN, no way he can return home alone but naturally he wants to. His body is worn out and his mind is catching up. Inquired about 24/7 in home care, >$21k/month. He has a couple years worth but doesn’t want to spend the money, 4 weeks ago he was buying silver as an investment. Geez.
Bow, United made me check a carry on even though I paid extra not to. What a racket.
Yep. I did get a refund when they did that to me. So it’s something. I left some less than stellar reviews which meant nothing of course, but I did get like 60 bucks per ticket back.
Also, this is a good reminder to everybody to add long term care to your life insurance policies. I am lucky enough to also be grandfathered in to one at work. When I sit down and look at the amount of insurance coverage I have, I just hope my wife doesn’t find out or I might not make it back from a “hunting trip”.
Trust me insurance companies make out like a bandit on those policies. If the time comes, just spend your life earnings to be comfortable. You won’t need them when you’re dead.
I’ve got a long term care plan that is good for $6000 per month for 6 years and it costs me like 4 bucks a month.
That’s pretty good….Long term care at a Nursing Home is currently running about 14,000 per month – so you will only have to pay 8,000 per month.
Think of the insanity of 14,000 per month. That is 466 dollars per day. They should be giving you daily sponge baths with happy endings for that.
Call that the Tucker and Watson package. I think I also have a rider on one of my life insurance policies too but I don’t remember.

If my wife knew how much all of my life insurance policies were really worth that might be where I mysteriously end up.

I let him out every morning, it’s our routine. The last two days, he’s said “hell no”.
My dog barely went out the dog door to take a leak and was right back inside.
(29 below here) I walked the dogs about 1/4 mile down the road at 6 am. They kept looking at me like, c’mon man we don’t have all that warm clothing on. As soon as I turned back they did a poop, pee, and ran like little cheetahs to the house.

Basically, instead of “no politics”, I changed it to “keep the politics to a minimum” and “keep it civil”. This site is open, and most of us enjoy an intelligent conversation, so we’ll roll with it & just ask that we avoid the “your side sucks! No, your side sucks!” arguments.
Let me know what you think. The site is here for you, so I want input. I know some folks want no politics, and some want it wide open. I tried to find a compromise we can all live with. We’ll leave the open thread open, with the caveat that we keep it civil.
Non open-thread stories (we will start having more of those) will have a “no politics” rule. Fan Huddle posts will be open (as long as there’s nothing illegal, disgusting, or immoral on there). If you want to have a wide open conversation on politics or religion, go ahead & create a Fan Huddle post.

I love how some guy makes a crappy movie and everyone thinks they have to imply deep philosophical thoughts to it.
Of course I also thought it was stupid when I sat in English class and had to listen to the teacher go on and on about deep philosophical thoughts on The Old Man and the Sea. Personally I think some of these authors got drunk and wrote something and thought that it would be a good piece to mess with English teachers.
I would have thought with your ecclesiastical leanings that Old Man and the Sea would be in your wheelhouse.

There were some bad ones that we had to sit thru in HS.

It made zero sense to teenaged me but the teacher went on and on for weeks about it.

This weekend is looking like 30-40, will be a good weekend to go ice fishing. I was able to get out Saturday and caught a few keepers. It’s kind of nice when it is really cold, as the lake is not as crowded.
We meant to go, but was too cold for the kiddos, they decided it would be more fun to wait until it’s a tad warmer.
Smart, specially with a first timer. Don’t want them to dislike it just because of one extremely cold day.
1st time I took my daughter, we got onto a school of perch and couldn’t hardly keep up with them. The next time we didn’t get a bite, and she became more hesitant to go after that.
My daughter was all excited about going deer hunting. After one day of sitting in the woods and not seeing anything, she has never gone again.
What kind of keepers?
Mostly perch, had a couple small walleyes that were borderline, I let them go to grow up a little..
Fish that are big enough to keep.

Pheasants Forever “no child left inside” had a kids ice fishing tournament, one of my boys came in 8th with 2 fish. Not as much competition as last year, probably due to the temp (we had a tent).
They used to have a kids fishing tournament at a small lake in my area. They stopped having it years ago, we’ve been thinking of reviving it.
If someone is fishing for kids, then perhaps their parents never had “the talk” with them.
