Hey everyone! It’s been a REALLY long hiatus for me, I’ve been busy with the new business, the other business, and I honestly needed a break from social media of all forms. I’ll be back around far more often now, and my son and I are planning to do a weekly podcast to post on here as well. Anyway, it’s great to be back.

Minnesota Vikings
A lot has happened with the Vikings. I was elated with the Vikings’ 2024 draft and their off-season in general. Getting both McCarthy AND Dallas Turner in the first round was a huge accomplishment. Yes, I’m aware that McCarthy is out for the year, but let’s be honest, that would have happened to any decent QB drafted by the Vikings. The Vikings seem to be headed in the right direction, and I’m excited for the future. They have a ton of young talent, and are building solid depth at nearly all positional groups.
For the 2024 season, my expectations are tempered. I think the Vikings will field a solid unit this year, but unless Sam Darnold can put the last 3 years in the past, and truly break out and perform to the level that justified being drafted third overall, the team will be limited by the QB position. IF KOC can revive Darnold’s career, then it could be a really fun year. We’ll see soon!

The White Sox tied their all-time franchise record with 107 losses. They still have 25 or so games to play. This amazes me. You shouldn’t be able to field a team that shitty unless you’re trying to lose. With all the emphasis on parity, it’s nearly impossible to suck as bad as they suck.
Once a team accepts losing, it loses a lot.
That’s why will never think it’s a good idea to lose on purpose or “tank”

Yes, Darnold has all the athletic and physical traits in the world. Big strong athlete with a great arm. Same as Carson Wentz.
Playing QB in the NFL at a high level is much more than being a big, strong, athlete, with a great arm.
Wentz is gonna make a comeback yet.

Expectations for Atlanta Falcons QB Kirk Cousins vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Didn’t read the article. The Falcons sat Cousins and pretty much all the offensive starters the whole preseason. Seemed an odd choice to me, with new guys, playing in a new scheme, with a rookie OC. I expect to see a run heavy offense, unless the Falcons fall behind by two scores.
I think Cousins will play well, if not spectacularly.
Besides Eli and Randall McDaniel, who is in the pic up top?

Easier to complete em when you throw em short of the sticks because the defense is defending the first down, not a meaningless completion.
I guess you think this is something that only Cousins does. Every QB throws short of the sticks and usually it’s the wise decision, or only decision they can make.
I would suspect that YAC has gotten about as many 1st downs as throwing past the sticks.
If you don’t at least get the ball out, take a sack, you have ZERO chance.
This has been disproven…. many other QB’s have a much shorter yards-in-the-air for their passes. He is nowhere near the “checkdown king” you pretend he is.
I actually thought/remember from 22 season, he was second only behind Mahomes in 20 plus air yards throws. And it was a big number.

He doesn’t play for the Vikings so it shouldn’t be a daily conversation.

Also, The Vikings were 91-73-6 under Tarkenton over his career, a 55% winning average. Vikings were 50-37-1 with Cousins, a 57% winning average.
Give me the Viking defense from those days, and I could QB a SB victory.

Believe it or not, Tarkenton himself said that. He said he did it on purpose to tire out the defense over a course of the game.

Oh come on… are you saying that if a QB throws for 300+ yards and 3 TD’s and loses the game due to a historically bad defense (which the Vikings had not long ago), it’s not his fault? We both know that’s squarely on him for not getting 4 or 5 TD’s (whatever is needed – a winner would do that).
Everyone here acknowledges the interior OL has been terrible for a decade (and the GM’s never fix it), yet it’s the QB’s fault when he doesn’t win games when he’s pressured constantly. Apparently IOL doesn’t matter I guess, so everyone should stop complaining.
You would be incorrect here. Take the giants playoff game – pretty close. Cousins throws for nearly 300 yards 2TD’s/ 0Int’s. 75 % completion rate, high QB rating etc. Believe the entire day’s offense was Cousins an d Hock. JJ and Cook never showed up.
Now, we have some other fellas:
Our HOF Safety decided to miss tackles all over the field all day.
Our two AllPro DE’s sort of layed around and let the opposing QB run around all day.
Our secondary didn’t cover anybody all day along.
But we lost the game because of the last play of the game.
I was being sarcastic in the first part. I believe the rest of the team failed him on many occasions, making his “win-loss” record worse than it probably should be. But that can go the other way sometimes, too. Not usually with the recent Vikings lineup, however.

Rick was one of the worst. Kwesi is not. If the team does not improve and contend in the next couple years, then we can pile on.
Rick was the worst? Wasn’t the 22 team basically Rick’s plus Kwesi’s shitty draft picks. When Kwesi puts a team on the field that wins 13 games and the division we can applaud.
Looking at Rick through the lens of his career. He ruined Miami, and somehow got hired here anyway. Had way too long to build a championship caliber team, and failed.

This is my final regular season prediction for the SKOL boys. I have them starting 2-5 but coming back to 6-6 going into the Atlanta game where they WILL win and it will be glorious. And will be 8-8 going into the final Lions game where I think they will lose a closer game than people think and finish 8-9. I think this team is going to be feisty and even in their losses will be competitive and close. Im sure there will be one blow out in there somewhere, there always is but thats my final call and they miss out on the final WC spot. Which is just fine for where this team currently is in its formation. Cant wait to watch every second. Haven’t said that in a while.

As would I but this team has improved depth compared to last year, I think 6 wins is their floor. Again, what I think happens and what I want to happen are usually different and rarely line up.

I am for the first time joining a FF team with some of my kids and BIL and SIL. Do those that play have a specific strategy on how to build one’s team, or just draft BPA?
Also, my wife has a life long granola/hippie girlfriend that just inherited her late father’s hobby ranch. She is allowing me to archery hunt it, up by Lincoln MT, but it does have some griz on it and am starting to feel my feet get a little cool.I recreate in griz country, but stealthily moving through the woods, headed into the wind is a bit different.
Take a partner with. Maybe somebody from Billings…. Also bear spray.
As for the FF, it depends on the league, but RBs are usually pretty important and are more consistent. Make sure you don’t overload on WRs early or you’ll be left without any solid RBs. Don’t draft a QB early. I never draft a QB until at least round 6 or 7.
Defense and kickers should always be last. Kicker really doesn’t matter and your defense will end up changing week to week.

Among the gougers I know, plenty of them use stands. Stands conveniently located next to the only watering hole for five miles around on leased property. Compound bows with a three ounce pull that fire an arrow at subsonic speed and tritium sights.

Can always count on a photo of a monster bull propped up next to a $15,000 bow and a pristine watering hole in the background.
That would be nice. Instead I keep pounding new public land in search of an elusive elk Eden. I do have a $1500 bow, but I won it. I could never drop that kind of dough on a bow.
Speaking of hunting, the coyotes were really yipping up a storm this morning about 4 am. Rabbits seem to go in cycles here…this year is bunny-palooza at my place, maybe that’s what brought them closer, although I didn’t hear the cows bellowing so what sounds close to my deaf ears could be deceiving. My wife did ask me if they would climb in the open windows haha. Time to climb up on a tall spot and fire up the call.

Top 12 would put Darnold right in line with Kirk’s average career rating. Kirk is 10th to 15th most seasons. Sam hitting top 15 at 10 mil vs 40+ is a huge win for the Vikings.
I have to submit this Surly. Thirty-nine quarterbacks attempted 1,000 passes or more from 2018 to 2023. Cousins had more passing yards than all but three of them (Patrick Mahomes, Jared Goff and Derek Carr). Cousins tallied more passing touchdowns than all but two of them (Mahomes and Russell Wilson). His completion percentage ranked third behind Drew Brees and Joe Burrow. His touchdown-to-interception ratio ranked fifth behind Aaron Rodgers, Brees, Mahomes and Wilson. And his passer rating ranked fifth behind those same four.
Once , just once, perhaps folks would look at some of our other players who were well paid for their positions, and realize how far they played from where they should have.
Clue – and a BIG one – watch the playoff game against the Giants and notice about five of our Star Defenders.
QBs need to have that “special” factor, especially in the spotlight and in big games. Kirk played well many games, but that factor to push us to Super Bowl contender? Sadly not once.
I wanted Kirk to succeed and cheered for him to lead us to glory, but one stat is all that matters:
Kirk –> 0 Super Bowls.

Take the 22 season. We had no defense, no running game and won all those games, many fourth quarter comebacks – 8 maybe. How did this happen? Who did it.?
You’re doing this all wrong… he deserves no credit. Or any credit for Theilen’s record pace or JJ’s records. Those would have happened with some rando like Jacoby Brissett at QB or someone else.

Me too. But some people act like it is likely to happen, not just a distant possibility.
The fact is, Cousins has done it every year since he became a starter in 2015, and Darnold has never done it.
Exactly why I think it’s ludicrous to expect it (maybe an extremely low possibility).
We also had 6 straight years with Mr. Mediocre results and top of the line salary.
But I don’t see many here raving about top 12 for Darnold.

I was wondering why I had never seen the Tiger Woods “Golf’s not hard” commercial, that was shared below. I looked it up, and they came out in 1997. Let’s just say I was engaged in things elsewhere, during that time.
Don’t feel bad, I was not engaged in things elsewhere and have never seen that ad. Then again, I don’t watch golf on TV.
I must say, I was an avid golfer about that time, an don’t remember them either. Maybe they viewed on the Golf Channel which I didn’t have in those days.

He sure made it look simple. I miss prime Tiger. He had a putt I remember that was like a double or triple breaker and a shot around a tree from way out, maybe at the Masters. Victory red Sundays were something else.
Totally… vintage Tiger was amazing. He hit hundreds of “wow” shots in pressure situations over his career.
I think the two I am thinking of were #7 and #9 on this. I remember watching a video of him and his caddie talking about a tournament where Tiger didn’t know it but he almost DQ’d himself. Maybe the Open or Pebble Beach, but his caddie didn’t realize Tiger had taken some of the balls out of the bag the night before so they only had 3 or something. One hit a cart path so Tiger threw it to a fan. Then he went in the water. Instead of taking a drop, he hit another tee shot. Caddie was sweating bullets.
I remember the story. Tiger was on the 18th hole, and hit his driver into the water (at Pebble Beach I think) and there was one ball left in the bag. Williams tried to talk Tiger into “playing it safe” and hitting three wood, and Tiger was like “give me a ball”. Luckily for Williams, Tiger smoked it down the fairway and went on to win.
That’s the one. Could you imagine being that caddie? Talk about a puckered backside. Tiger’s up by 6 and you might get him DQ’d from the US Open?

It’s true. Tiger didn’t know standing on that tee, that he was down to the last ball in the bag, and Williams didn’t tell him.
Another weird golf rule. You’d think there would be plenty of balls to go around at a golf course. Borrow one from another golfer? Maybe the course should supply the balls?
That’s pro rules and those guys are super picky about what they use. Tiger not only used a specific Nike, but he would only use them if the were #1s.
Oh, I’m sure. I also know kickers have their own preselected footballs for kickoffs. But you get in trouble in tennis or baseball for making the ball uniquely your own with a few little scuffs or smears of vaseline.
QBs from NE have been known to get the balls just the way they like them previously.
Well he’s a better man now. Remember he was addicted to sex and went off to some special sanitarium to cure him of his disease. The ever thoughtful press eat it all up, but not so much his wife.

Speaking of gouger funds – the grandkids helped me do a little over a quarter mile of four strand barbed wire fence end of last week. The 15 year old grandson was great help, runs the Bobcat with the fence pounding attachment every bit as well as his other granddad (wife’s ex). The 12 year old granddaughter did pretty well with the clips but otherwise spent most of her time eating snacks and farting around exploring the hills.
They each put in about 4 8 hour days.
After we got done, my wife asked what I was going to pay them. I was waiting for my wife to say I should give them each $1000 and was going to get snippy, but we compromised and came up with $100 for the girl and $200 for the boy. They’re good kids, I just don’t want to spoil them on projects that are beneficial for them in the long term.
Yea the ‘good’ ones to me feel like a brick. As a kid loved going to Grandma’s because she had feather beds and you felt like you were sleeping on a pillow.

I have found we can eat just about anything as well.
Inmates would complain about the food in the ‘dining hall’ at the prison and I could honestly tell them ‘I ate food just like that for over 20 years in the Army’. That never failed to shut them up.

Not sure why Weight Watchers never just didn’t buy up a bunch of c rations.
C Rations and MREs are high in calories/fat.
They were/are meant to sustain a soldier in combat. Typical MRE is about 3k calories.
Thing I loved about Mess Halls was although the food wasn’t great I could eat about as much as I wanted, never had that growing up, well except at my grandparents during holidays.
And the Army kept you active enough that you burned all of those calories.
I starved on c rations. If they had a lot of calories, my body didn’t know it.
Now, mess halls, did like the quantity.
They certainly learned to pack more into MRE than they could C-rations.
But C-rations were certainly not Weight Watchers worthy foods.
Did you try the lima beans? If you can’t eat em, you won’t gain much.
I was busy trading my cigarettes for someones desert. That may have factored into the calorie count.
Not the military, but my three years in dorms inured me to many things. The mattress was far too short for me so I put my pillow on the wooden chair, which was a little shorter than the mattress…premed major so almost all my classes had early morning labs so learned to sleep and study through all manner of noise and frivolity/roommate hijinks…filthy bathroom with at least one toilet plugged every weekend…some truly unpleasant food…etc.
Some day I will have a bed long enough. Unless I’m in a hotel and can sleep at an angle, I’ve never slept on a mattress long enough that my feet don’t hang off. At least since high school.

neighbor of mine had 3 trees cut down yesterday. one was on his property but over hangs my driveway and garage.
the 2 guys cutting the tree down had a big lift so they could take it down in pieces. but they decided not to rope anything off. so of course they cut a big piece and it falls funny and hits my roof/gutter. no roof damage, but crushed a 3 foot section of my gutter pretty good…
i had them bid cutting down a tree in my backyard for $500 before this debacle.
so he comes over and apologizes and says he will bend it back and it will be good as new (highly unlikely it won’t look like it just got crushed). So i think i’m going to counter that he fixes the gutter and either throws in doing the tree in my back yard at no charge or severely discounts it….

Works for me, if he doesn’t crush your house in the process of cutting your tree down.
thankfully that would be pretty tough for him to do.
i look at it this way. before you cut the tree down, my gutter and house was in perfect working order. after you cut the tree down, i will now have a gutter than got crushed and “fixed”…. that should be worth more than “let me try to fix it for you” in my book
I would demand the gutter be fixed – correctly – before anything else. If he proves he can do that to your liking, then talk to him about cutting down your tree.
How much does a 3-foot section of gutter cost?
if i would, i’d probably replace the whole section (it’s on my garage, so it’s probably roughly 14-16 feet long. it’s all one piece, so its not sections.
i don’t mind if he bends it back and gets it functional again. but it’s the principle of the thing. I could easily be a (insert swear word) and tell him i’m going to contact my insurance and do that whole thing. or….give me a discount on cutting my tree down. seems that would be the better option for them

My thoughts are, take some pics immediately, and if it is not fixed to your satisfaction you file an insurance claim, and your insurance company will go after his insurance company.

If it were me……….I would tell him go ahead and try to make it look new, but that won’t stop you from contacting insurance if it doesn’t meet your standards. However, if it DOES look fairly decent when he is done, you will NOT pursue anything further if he does your tree for (at least) half price.
If they restore it to near pristine condition be happy. If they don’t, tell them you aren’t happy and they need to have someone put up a new gutter on that side. Guarantee a tree company knows someone in the gutter biz.

MN State Fair was delicious. I ate way too much. Went to Total Wine and More and bought an insane amount of Fest Beers as it’s my favorite beer time of the year. All in all, I’m fatter while my pocket book is much lighter! Hope the Vikes surprise us all this year.

Always look for a good Pils to start. When I go to a brewery I always start with a flight and try their Pils or lager and then one of their darker beers and few Pale Ales. A really good full flavored not boring Pils or lager is tough to do well.
But I am seasonal with my overall preferences. Summer is for sure Pils and Pale Ale season. Fall is those amber colored beers weather that is a marzen, Dunkel, Amerber Ale etc… It’s also why a Red IPA is my favorite overall beer.
I use to like stouts and scotch ales more… I don’t really care for them anymore.
I try to do that as well.
I always do the IPA’s first, as I’m not a big fan of fruity shitty beer.

Give me full amber lagers all day everyday.
I always order Pils/Lager first then the amber/darker then Pale Ales last in my line up. Because those hoppy beer flavors will linger the most when trying the other beers. It’s like whisky tasting always start with Canadian and Irish styles, then smooth scotch styles, then bourbon styles, then peated scotches.
I also like Fest Beer season. Women have pumpkin spice lattes. Men have Oktoberfest beers. Football season starts around the same time. Fall is fun.
I had 4 of the state fair exclusive beers. Surly Hazy IPA was my favorite. One was terrible, but since it was $12 I just drank it down fast and had another mini donut.
One of the fruity IPA things was pretty good. But I do enjoy malty beers the most.
There is no beer in my house, even though OktoberFest is also my favorite beer season.
Started DDP again, ordered the PowerCuffs and a HR monitor. Goal is to drop another 15 pounds by year end, and the good beers will not help that.
Still going to Renn fest sometime this month, and I have a couple family gatherings, but other than that I am in try hard mode.

I had the Smores Beer, it sucked haha! I went to a Twins game and they had Keepers Heart Whisky mix drinks that were DELICIOUS! Wish they sold them outside the stadium.
Good for you man on doing the DDPY stuff! Did a 40 minute workout withte the straps this morning (and most every morning). And yes, the beer doesn’t help, hoping the DDPY in the morning and running or lifting in the evenings allow me to enjoy 1 or 2 every so often lol.

Much to my surprise, Darnold was taken in my Fantasy Draft last night, the 24th and Final QB taken.
Does anyone think that Darnold has a chance to be a top 20 QB? Top 15? What is his ceiling? History would argue he won’t crack the top 25…I hope the young man has a hell of a year…..its possible….
How do they grade the top QB’s ? But just thinking, look at the yardage and TD’s Mullens up last yer – and yes Int’s too. If Darnold can protect the ball, would think he could put up similar numbers. How this grades out for QB ranking I have no idea.

It is surprisingly easy to do …Put the tee shot in the pond short right, drop and hit my 3rd onto the green. Then 3 putt, Its a 6.
You’re gettin close. Have a cold one on me. Next time you play that par 3 you’ll probably get a birdie – it all evens out.
I once reached a 165 yard par three with my 7th shot.
After double par, I just throw the ball in the water.
That’s where my first three tee shots went. Then the guys I was playing with said “you know there’s a drop zone across the water”. Hit my 7th shot from the drop zone onto the green with a wedge, then three-putted for a nice 10.
Got an interesting par on a long par 3 once. Hit the tee shot in the water and was pissed. Walked over to bag, just grabbed a ball and threw it down, didn’t tee it up or anything. Just swung like hell and knocked it in for a ‘routine’ par.
Laughing… that was a great par. Love that, and a story you can tell forever. Every golfer will laugh with you about it.

I shot a 110, which is the best I have done. Fairly new to golf, stared maybe 4-5 years ago.
Keep at it, don’t get frustrated, you will likely get much better….Although I have a brother who has been golfing for 30 years and will always shoot between a 108 and a 125.
As you know, you gotta have the mental and subtle changes to your swing and style in order to improve. Someone who always shoots over a 100 after 10 years, is just missing the tweaks necessary to improve. It’s not hard to sense them, you just need to understand the fine tuning of your swing.
Since I can never break 80, I just lack the understanding of what it takes on the swing level to hit better shots than what I do. Might be my hand eye coordination.

For me, I have had no training, just learning on my own. But, my biggest problem is I have a spur on my neck which pinches the nerve that runs down my left arm. I can play fine with it, but I am limited on how often I can play.
That sucks.
Add in the medical issues, and then you have to learn a different way to do it.

I had a few lessons when I was 12. I’m 62 now so it’s learning and tweaking.
There is some physics involved on the timing of your swing.
Yesterday, I went out and just hit the ball. Not worrying about how it would affect my neck and arm. I think that is why I did so “well”.
I tend to take a little off of my swing to prevent added pain, but I am going to get a steroid injection in a few days, so I was like, I can deal with the pain for a while.
physical issues suck…not much you can do about those…
I have had 4 of 5 lessons in my life. They were definitely worth it. Took me from the upper 90s to the mid to lower 80s for a time….
Then I got old and lost what little flexibility I had…trying figure it all out all over again now.
I say top 20 for sure.
Top 15 is possible, but I wouldn’t put any money down on a bet for that.
Honestly it depends on scoring. I think Sam could be top 10 if INTs do not count against him.

The Giants defense is ranked 25th in the league going into week one. Nobody knows for sure how good or bad any unit will be in any given year, but the Giants are “expected” to field a great defense. We have great offensive weapons. We could put up a good showing.
Hoping for a good showing…It would be demoralizing to end up with a 2 score loss to the Giants.
It would. KOC is in his third season with this offense. The O-line knows it, and the WR’s know it. New running back, and Hock is out, but the QB is really the question mark. I think KOC can simply call the play for Darnold in the headset, then tell him where to throw the ball. Take the “thinking” part out of the playcall for him. Bradbury can take over all the line calls, blitz calls, and blocking adjustments. Sam just has to hand the ball off, or throw it where KOC tells him to.
Yeah, like Culpepper…our offense coordinator was telling him exactly what to read on every play. Worked out O.K. for a while.
The Sean McVay method. Kyle Shanahan too. Tell the QB where to throw the ball as part of the playcall.
