Minnesota Vikings News:
From MSN, Vikings DL James Lynch tore his ACL and is out for the season. I hate seeing guys get hurt in preseason, that has to be devastating to the player. Dude works his tail off his whole life to make the NFL, then gets hurt in preseason and misses an entire year. NFL players only have a short period of time where they can play, so missing a year has to be tough. I guess continuing to collect a paycheck worth millions while you’re sitting at home eases the sting a little.
From the Washington Post, Alvin Kamara will serve a three-game suspension for taking part in an altercation at a night club back in 2022. He’s lucky he didn’t spank his kid or anything, then he’d have had a year off.
CBS Sports has a list of the top 20 NFL players who have not been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Odd, I didn’t see Christian Ponder on the list.
Seahawks WR Dee Eskridge has been suspended for 6 games and Chiefs DE Charles Omenihu has also been suspended for 6 games, both were suspended for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.
Video of the Day:
Here’s an excellent tune by the immortal Joe Walsh, this one is called Rocky Mountain Way. Enjoy!
TJ, I believe, is holding in and I don’t mean using the bathroom.
-With contract possibly coming, T.J. Hockenson hasn’t been practicing much-
As Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson prepares for his first full season with the Vikings, he’s currently not doing much actual preparation.
Via multiple reporters covering the team, Hockenson has not been participating in team drills during padded practices. On Saturday, he was not in uniform for the full-pads session.
Hockenson is due to make $9.3 million in 2023, the fifth-year option of his 2019 first-round contract. The Lions traded Hockenson to the Vikings during the 2022 season.
The Vikings gave up a second-round pick to get Hockenson will full appreciation of the fact that they’ll eventually need to pay him. Unless he’s got an injury that has yet to be disclosed, he’s avoiding potentially serious injury until he can get the kind of contract that will properly reward him for his skills and abilities as one of the better tight ends in football.
@KAM needs to pay everyone top dollar. Salary cap be damned.@
The Vikings have signed WR N’Keal Harry.
No idea why…
Possibly better than our 5th or 6th guy so you upgrade.
I don’t think he’s done anything at all since he was drafted in 2019.
Might provide a big target in red zone.
6’4″ and 225 lbs is a big target.
Bryson with a 58 over on the fake tour. Still impressive round.
When you start doing your long puts like that, you don’t have to worry about the short ones.
As an aside, the Old White Course at the Greenbrier is one of the most beautiful in the country.
I want to play there someday haven’t before. Old White Course took some major major damage by a 100 yr flood back in 2016. 8 inches of rain feel in a 24 hr period. Below was the streets in the area. Old White suffered major course land redirection to the point they had to close 9 holes completely as the entire area was washed away. It is now only a 9 hole course. No plans when or if it will be restored after 7 years.
I read the Liv tourney was played on the Old White. saw some of the holes on video and sure looked like the Old White
I just looked it up…I must have read an inaccurate article said half the course was still closed. They had to rebuild greens but apparently they redid all the damage in 2017.
J.Thomas with an eagle on 15 to get to the 70 number. 3 to go tough holes.
Shit shot on par 3, he’s toast.
bogey…still at 70 but will get bumped.
Weather coming thru…just went past my place. Will be to them soon they’ll have to stop play it was strong.
Followed up with a shit shot drive on 18
Think he needed the green at 16. Bad shot. Pulling for him, not sure how it plays out. He only made 3 cuts in last 8 PGA’s, not good.
At that level, if you can’t hit a green with a 9 iron on a par 3, that’s not good.
Not sure they get the rest in. They said a hour, add warmups.
Horchels putting routine is flat out stupid.
Which is worse Horchels or Harmon’s routine?
J. Thomas update….currently sitting at 73 FedEx position, -9. He’s 4 holes in to today’s rd, all par’s. Gonna have to get hot.
Wants the Ryder cup also, prob has to get in FedX to do it tho.
He has little chance at either where he’s at. Just can’t turn it on, is taking what he gets at times instead of taking control and dictating.
I believe we’re going to have a 180 degree change on defense and really enjoy watching this Flores scheme. Check this clip out…so hard for an offense to figure out where to go and where it’s coming from.
Regarding the projected roster construction, last year the Vikings kept 25 players on offense, 25 on defense and three specialists among the 53 players.
The offensive roster make-up looked like this:
QB – 2
RB – 4
FB – 1
WR – 5
TE – 3
OL – 10
A question as I don’t know much about this – about the 25/25 split.
If you’re mostly an offensive team and have more talent around on the offense than the defense, might you alter the split some?
The roster construction varies year to year slightly. We could see 26 offensive players and 24 defensive players.
They have like 10 TEs on the roster right now. Probably 4 on active with 2 on PS.
How many wide receivers and TE’s do we keep out of this bunch?
Wide Receiver
WR1: Justin Jefferson
WR2: K.J. Osborn
WR3: Jordan Addison
WR4: Jalen Nailor
WR5: Jalen Reagor
WR6: Brandon Powell
WR7: Blake Proehl
WR8: Trishton Jackson
WR9: Cephus Johnson
WR10: Thayer Thomas
WR11: Lucky Jackson
WR12: Garett Maag
Tight End
TE1: T.J. Hockenson
TE2: Josh Oliver
TE3: Johnny Mundt
TE4: Nick Muse
TE5: Ben Sims
TE6: Colin Thompson
I am thinking 5 WR/Returners (hopefully not Reagor) and 4 TE.
With spares on the practice squad.
I actually agree with this. I think we’ll see some 3 TE sets this year that will be a run first option, that could end up a play fake with a WR, two tight ends and the RB in the pattern.
WR-6 JJ, KJ, JA, BP, TJ, LJ
TE-3 TJ, JO, JM
Headed to the Columbia restaurant in Ybor City for some Brunch with my wife. Hoping Justin Thomas has his best round of the year today. I’m thinking he needs to shoot at least 8 under to get into the FedEx playoffs next week. A 59 today would be great.
My wife and her friends love the Columbia restaurant in Celebration. Enjoy, but watch your diet.
Don’t know about JT and 8 under though.
Yeah, I’m sure we’ll find something I can eat. My wife just told me they don’t have a brunch menu, just lunch. Bother. Was thinking eggs and some pancakes.
Projected at 70, the cut line.
Current Vikings O-line players:
Left Tackle
LT1: Christian Darrisaw
LT2: Blake Brandel
LT3: Vederian Lowe
LT4: Christian DiLauro
Right Tackle
RT1: Brian O’Neill
RT2: Oli Udoh
RT3: Jacky Chen
RT4: Jarrid Williams
Center
C1: Garrett Bradbury
C2: Austin Schlottmann
C3: Josh Sokol
Left Guard
LG1: Ezra Cleveland
LG2: Alan Ali
LG3: Jack Snyder
Right Guard
RG1: Ed Ingram
RG2: Chris Reed (NFI)*
*NFI = Non-Football-Injury List
Zack Martin holding out in Dallas with 2 yrs left on his deal is brilliant cause there isn’t jack shit left out there to replace him.
The best guard in football. To bad we can only dream.
Well, except for the $50k per day fines.
USWNT defending back to back champions just eliminated from the World Cup on penalty kicks. Last penalty kick by Sweden to win the US goalie initially stopped it popped straight up and curve in a tad on the way down she knocked it out of the net…the VR review officials gave the goal to Sweden as the entire ball has to cross goal line. This was the VR review of the ball lol….Viking’esk way to lose US.
I’m not upset by this.
You diss your country on the world stage, you don’t deserve to be on the world stage.
Rapinoe the blue haired old lady was a late substitution by the coach…came in was ineffective then on her penalty kick sent it completely over the net and wide not even close. She was horrible, thankfully this will be her last game. Good riddance.
With Kamara getting a 3 game suspension now this…Cook to the Saints is a real possibility.
Ahh the Saints, where great Vikings RB go to die.
Cook rumor mill, getting old. Leverage moves i guess. You’d thin he’d want to be in some camp.
I personally dont care where he ends up. Its not news to me any more. He’s not a Viking. I care about the Vikings.
Kirk and Addison have a real good connection already. If the rookie can get off the line and in to his routes consistently he’ll be a problem.
If only we had a good QB that can get the ball to the receivers while getting killed in the pocket…
Maybe some day…
More the placement of the ball than the route.
Vikings activated Edge Andre Carter II from the PuP today.
Powell looks shifty, doing to Bynum what Addison didn’t.
We are used to seeing those kind of plays from #19.
Guy has good moves.
Cousins needs 7 TD’s and 3,842 yards this season to rank second all time to Fran Tarkenton in yards and TD’s. Barring injury, he probably does that.
5 days till we play in Seattle in the middle of the night. Think I’ll be asleep long before gametime.
I think Zimmer was right about Mond.
Dude looked awful Thursday night.
Hoping Hall looks better. Mullens inspires zero confidence.
Vikings need a decent backup in the unlikely event Kirk ever misses a game not related to having cold symptoms.
I see him every day in practice…
And Zim got hammered for that.
Yeah by people who don’t know shit about football but make a living writing about it.
And about 95% of the fanbase too.
CANCELED: Sunday, August 6 Training Camp
Due to the impending weather forecast, fan activations for Vikings Training Camp on Sunday, August 6, have been CANCELED.
JT right at the 70 line to make FedEx cup playoff.
Yep, gonna need a low round tomorrow though.
He turned it on yesterday on 9 going -4 through the rest of the round. Today first nine he had 3 more birdies then finally bogied. So he has to really turn it on and contend hard.
Found something….check this rep out..Addison vs Bynum. Addison off the line looks like Sammy Davis Jr after a line of blow lol… This rep worries me for what his prospects will be against the cream of the league corners. He’s getting out physical and late on the route. That could be a huge problem. JJ is a decent route runner his elusiveness, sneaky speed and length is the difference. Thielen had the art down I wish he were still here to teach Addison. McCardle will be a good teacher hopefully.
Good rep by Bynum…That is fine with me.
He’ll be fine.
Lol… just saying. It’s one rep. Other guy gets paid too. I think Addison will be a good addition to the offense.
Hey Lifer, shot an 85 today…Had the lucky horseshoe up my ass again. Hit two shots into ponds that somehow found rocks and bounced out…parred both of those. Had 2 legit birdies on a couple of par 3s…can’t remember the last time I had two birdies in one round.
Great round Rube.
Take good luck when you can get it.
THanks man.
Scorecard doesn’t care how the score was made – good luck or bad luck. It all evens out.
Congratulations on the round. Two birdies is great.
Best round I remember someone posting this year man unless NVF shot a stroke or two better. Way to go!! I would be ecstatic with an 85!
88 is the lowest I shot this year but shot a 41 on a nine this year so I’m lurking in that area on a good day.
I had some lucky bounces yesterday also, pulled a power driver hard straight left, went about 100 yards hit the middle of a big oak about 20 feet up and ricochet straight across to the right not going forward or backward just dead right, right in the middle of the fairway. Smoked my 3 wood 225 around and down a dogleg left to the right middle of the fairway (by far my best shot of the day, guys were amazed i hit it they were down the fairway sanding to the side) hit a wedge in close and made a par.
Thanks man, as I said I was a little lucky,,,I only hit 2 greens in regulation and birdied them both…12 to 15 footers…but my playing partner was on the same line and a little farther out. It is much easier to putt when you know how its going to break rather than guess.
But I was always around the green, so had a lot of 2 putt bogeys, only had one blow up, 18…that bastard got me again with a triple…even a bogey there gets me a 83…oh well.
Two putt bogeys saved ya…
yeppers…bogeys are my friend…if I slop out and get a par its a bonus.
Thats a decent 3 wood. Those are the shots that keep us coming back.
I think my 3 wood maxes out at about 210 these days…When I was a young buck I could hit it 250+…Oh well….still a great game.
Can’t speak for the 3 wood but I smoked a 2 gram earlier and that was nice….
Good for you dude! “Smoke em if ya got em”!
I have a feeling its an entirely different kind of high…
Again, I have never done pot or any other drug…doesn’t mean I am morally superior in any way…I drink enough alcohol to keep several distilleries in the black…
I never cared for smoking pot. Had free stuff around as a teen since my dad grew it. It just made me hungry and tired. Now I am fine with a nap.
Today I am a big fan of the THC gummies, and even the seltzers. Zero hangover, different type of buzz. Loving the chill. Way better for me than booze.
Still drink, just way less often and less volume.
I can get THC couchlock and think some lame movie is entertaining. Wake up for work at 5 am and feel fine.
Yeah, people keep telling me I should give it a try…
Little worried that I since I have become an over achiever in alcohol consumption, the same thing would happen with gummies et al…
I highly suggest trying gummies.
5 mg “MN Nice” will not do much, just relax you. If you wanna feel something more, wait an hour and take another., Then chill. Literally.
A friend gave me a few 30 mg gummies from CO. I cut it in half. Still knocked me on my ass.
Found cheers reruns on TV and had a glorious 3 hours of laughing.
Nice round! I played 9 this morning. Bogey, double, threw away the scorecard and enjoyed the rest of the round.
I only missed one fairway with my driver, and the second shot was playable for a decent golfer (long rough). I promptly hit the ball into the water. Lost two balls, made some good shots, made some terrible shots. Irons are going well, Driver is going well.
Hybrid and short game misery today.
More fun next weekend. Tomorrow looks like a rain out.
Glad you threw the scorecard out and just had some fun. Try some shots, see what happens. Good for you.
Nice round! The question is, did you have fun?
Yessir, I had a lot of fun…
Awesome… glad to hear that. Golf is a game we play. If you’re playing, and you aren’t having fun, there’s something wrong.
Although I will say walking the golf course is part of my weight loss program…
After today’s round the scale was on the right side of 300 for the first time in quite a few years….I played college football at 230…want to get down to at least 250…walking a golf course is a great way to burn calories.
See my reference to THC Gummies/Seltzers vs booze.
Easiest way for me to lose 15 pounds in a month was zero booze and lower carb/no sugar.
Yes…this I know…alcohol is the enemy of weight loss.
yep. but it is so much fun!
I do miss beer. Even lite beer is better than the white claw things. But for me, beer = fat juice.
Still drinking beer on my Birthday, and once per month during football season.
Yes…I am at about 28 per week…(down from 34), split between light beer, wine, and whiskey….Need to get it down to under 14….
Good luck!
It sucks to have to give up things we like. Beer and Pizza would for sure be my last meal choice.
Steak a close second (still with beer)
I still have 20 pounds to lose, but cutting back on booze has helped a lot.
CJ Ham has lost 12 lbs this offseason to be quicker and more of a run threat so when in 12 personnel if defenses double JJ, Cousins can audible to a run and he can lead block or take the hand off and if they don’t double JJ, Ham can stay in and help Oliver block. Going to be a lot of options in this defense especially if Addison becomes the threat from great route running.
Cousins doesn’t audible much.
Thats a huge weakness.
Why doesn’t he audible much?
Not sure.
I read a story last year where it said Cousins rarely audibles and actually leaves it up to Bradbury to change it at the line.
The center never calls an audible. They change protection at the line. In the new offense which of course no one mastered last year, there is a primary call in the huddle and sometimes a “can” call. If Cousins doesn’t like the defensive look he’s getting, he can “can” the play to the alternate. Unless the team has simple audible calls at the line that are one or two words, it’s impossible to call the whole play on the fly at the line.
It’s important to note that if the QB is audibling at the line, and the rest of the offense doesn’t know the play, it’s a disaster waiting to happen. This offense is really hard to master, and has a lot of moving parts. Maybe this year KOC will have audibles built into the game plan the team can use. Last year the offense wasn’t mature at all.
At first thought, I’d have an audible for kirk anytime he looks out and sees JJ in single coverage.
but then starting thinking, if JJ is in single, they’re probably bringing heat and we may not have the formation to handle it. And I guess, if we have time to move folks around, they’ll change the defense. Mind games.
Hot reads are always something the QB works on with the receivers. If a CB is playing way off, Cousins can take the snap and hit the hot read immediately. He used to do that with Thielen a lot.
Zimmer didn’t want him to and got upset when he did.
KOC wants him to do it more but with the new Offense he is working on doing more of it.
As I understand it that is.
Read article said 3 vets in danger of being cut.
Joseph
Reagor. Yes.
Lynch. Duh, must have been the kiss of death.
Have heard the the rookie kicker is accurate from inside the 50, no so much from distance.
Seems like we have tried that once before.
Hope to see some competition Thursday.
I read that article yesterday then Lynch shreds his knee…yikes. Sounds like he was on the bubble anyway.
If he can regularly make XP’s that would be a plus.
Joseph made 4 50+ yard FGs last year. To include that 61 yarder to win the 1st Giants game.
He also missed the 6 XP, looking like 12pts vs 6. Maybe the rookie can manage two long ones and we can call it a draw.
I really don’t pay much attention to kickers. Until it counts of course – typical fan.
But I do think when you score a TD and then miss the XP, a good thing sort of gets tainted. Sort of a psych thing.
Given that an extra point is now 33 yards more misses are understandable. Not a ‘given’ as the old 15 yarders were.
I didn’t like the misses as it changed the dynamic of many close games, but I didn’t see it as an Epic Failing either.
Agree. Better D will solve a lot more of our problems.
I understand the ‘narrative’ as all the misses seemed to complicate the rest of the games.
In part due to so many close games we had.
The problem is our kicker led the league in missed extra points two years in a row I think.
Once every 3rd game (counting playoff) Tragic.
Could be better, hope they fix it.
Read a satire on word salad gal:
Today is today. And yesterday was today yesterday. Tomorrow will be today tomorrow. So live today, so the future today will be as the past today as it is tomorrow.
That’s her.
How utterly ridiculous she is… and imagine… she is the Vice President of the United States…. galling.
One bad day from Sniffer away from becoming Cdr & Chief, scary.
Can you imagine she actually tried cases in court? I mean WTH
Suspect she had plenty of ‘help’.
She was more of a DEI hire as a DA here in Calif.
In fact the 1st time I heard her name was when a black inmate was Cuzzing about her, doing a dang good job if it too.
Commenting closed! Ok man, whatever.
Putting this at the top of the thread. Helsinki concert my wife is going to.
With attachment
I’ve never heard of a single band on this promo. Interesting some aren’t even a name just a symbol. There are going to be some weird agents of darkness at that event that is for sure. I’m picturing some closet serial killers like from “Girl with the dragon tattoo” just weird fucks with demented kinks.
Yeah… my wife likes some weird stuff. But she also likes the Righteous Brothers, Sam Cook, etc. She likes old Country as well. Broad appreciation of musical genres.
I can appreciate metal for sure, very talented musicians and I listened to a lot in the 80’s and early 90’s.
How many 3 putts? GIR don’t mean shit if your putting all over the carpet.
Nice line up, your wife should have a blast. Helsinki is an awesome city as well.
This will be her third trip to Finland. She’s very excited.
I can see why she would be excited. I´ve been to Helsinki twice, hope I can go a 3rd time as well.
So had an interesting round a Trump National yesterday evening. Beautiful afternoon post the day and a half of rain the course was perfect other than the greens still had punch marks from mid July that due to dry conditions had not yet fully recovered but were 80% back.
Was grouped with my friend member and two other gents, one customer I recognized from the balloon factory, the other a literal carbon copy of Rush Limbaugh I shit you not, looked just like him AND he works as a on air conservative talk host on a local radio station here lol…can’t make it up. Well I introduced myself pulled out my rainbow shafted driver which got some funny looks and my buddy laughed and said, “He calls that his Joe Biden shaft” (which I do) and we were off and running for 18 holes of pure political barbs and jokes. Had a fantastic time.
Shot a 50 / 54 from tee to green was in the zone, hit 9 GIR on a very long difficult course, my driver, woods and iron shots were on. Other holes naturally had some wayward shots but nothing I couldn’t scramble out of. The killer of the round was I had NINE 3 putts. I mean I couldn’t putt for shit, lag putting was ok not great and could not make anything inside 10 feet. That was my killer, also 3 triples and one quad on 18 didn’t help. Bad break on 18 perfect drive, perfect 7 iron to a layup position short of water, pulled my GW left to the back edge of a bunker had no down swing without hitting the edge of the bunker coming down so tried and sent my ball over the green in to the weeds. Chipped up and two putted for my only quad.
So my short game is killing me and the TriHot Putter below on the left is out and I’m going to try a TM Spider mallet in my bag in the middle there that I retrofitted with two 16 grams weight on the back. I have my Scotty in my 2nd guest bag on the right that probably is what I’ll end up going back to but will give the Spider a try.
Glad to hear your ball striking was that good – 9 GIR’s is great. I wouldn’t worry to much bout the putting on recently punched greens – one small mark will knock a ball off line.
Until you feel really comfortable with your putting, I’d go with the heaviest putter you;ve got. Gives you better feel.
Yup that’s my thought exactly…the Spider is the heaviest of the three and feels great in my hands.
Glad you had fun…even with redneck conservatives. I shot a 90 yesterday…giving it another go today.
See you have an R11s driver – used to be a favorite of mine. Also see some Cleveland Xbore woods, they were great in the day.
you have a lot of golf clubs.
I know once I complete my set, I am not keeping the 27 year old irons.
Re-watching the Vikings Redskins game from last year. Remember the huge TD pass Heinicke threw into triple coverage and the back judge ran into Bynum and knocked him down? I mean talk about a strange season last year.
Oh yeah…that and the beating Cousins took was a thrill ride…little did we know Kirk wasn’t done and 7 days later had a 2nd act that was even better.
Plays like that are a reminder that luck went both ways last year, although many don’t seem to remember that.
That’s right, and it should’ve been pass interference. The ref wasn’t looking back to the ball.
Sad to see that Steve McMichael is not doing well. Always liked him as a player.
Saw that this morning…ALS. Probably the worst diagnosis I’ve encountered in 30 yrs of healthcare experience. You have total cognitive awarenesses but gradually lose all motor functions except your eye movement. Breathing everything gradually goes and you are left trapped in a shell withering body on mechanical ventilation until your heart gives out. One of the first patients I cared for as a 20 yr old RRT was a Merrill Lynch SVP who was in the end stages of ALS. To watch him and his beautiful wife who cared for him succumb to the horrors of ALS was life altering to me.
It’s hideous. I’d rather someone sneak up behind and put a cap in my head.
I wanted to ask the SVP, hey…I can adjust the setting on this ventilator and you’ll go within a few minutes, but naturally never would even if he asked but would if it was legal. He would lay there in his underwear, body atrophied and skin yellow with an unhealthy oily sheen…I mean god damn man no one should have to suffer like that. I would 100% kill myself before I got to the state of not being able to take my own life. It was horrifying. His wife was in a zombie level state…it totally fucked her up….she was caring for him but he freaking broke her hard…she never said more than two words to me. Sad.
Too bad State laws (most States) won’t allow someone to choose euthanasia rather than suffer to the end.
Kevorkian was right in trying to change the perception of assisted suicide.
It’s easier to ask forgiveness than permission, my friend. Even if they don’t forgive you, what do you care? You’re dead.
Problem is they go after the person that assisted them, your family or friends if you’re in a state unable to do it yourself.
Not in Vermont. Can legally end your life there.
Agreed. It is a terrible thing to watch someone go through. My brother passed away from it at age 50. Was slow progressing and took him over the course of 10 years after diagnosis.
Had to get the weekend going.
US Sect State Blinken condemns Russia for jailing political opponents.
No shit…
The “not me but thee” crowd.
Yessir.
Going to try that golfing thing again today. Only golfing 9, and it is a playing lesson.
Tomorrow looks like a wash out and no Sunday football yet.
Enjoy your day on the course. It’s not work, it’s play. Laugh a little, be relaxed, and have fun.
Laughing. 6 days of just me and the cats.
Lol…
I realized I responded to the wrong post and deleted it.
Wondered what happened… was like huh?
GM and Skol!
GM and here we go!
Wife heads to Finland next Wednesday for some Heavy Metal festival in Helsinki.
No sneaking ice cream while wifey is gone……
She’s very excited about the trip. She has a number of friends in Sweden and Finland who follow the same bands she does. They all have VIP passes and will be roaming around Helsinki at all hours of the day and night. One of the featured bands come on stage at midnight, and there is some after concert party that starts at 4 a.m. on Sunday.
Hun will probably be in attendance. He’s a big metal head lol….wonder what the headliner bands will be?
Here’s the poster
Unfortunately not, aiming to go to Steelfest next May for a 3rd time.
Quality music choice. My wife’s last concert was Taylor Swift.
I took her to see AC/DC, she complained about it being too loud.
Skol!
Weekend time
