Reminds me of my first week in Berlin. I had just graduated my Russian language training and got stationed over there. Didn’t speak a word of German.
Buddies took me out on the town to one of the popular hangouts – the Europa Center, where they had the Irish Pub, English Pub, American Pub all under one roof.
Spotted a German hottie, played “I’m checking you out/I’m not checking you out” for a while and thought I’d give her a try.
I asked my ‘friends’ for something appropriate to say in German to break the ice. One of them spoke a few words, I repeated until they said “eh, good enough”
Walked up to the hottie and said “Deinen busen geffalen mir sehr, darf ich deine unterwegge rechen” (or something damn close to that).
KerrrrrACKKKKKKKKKKKK went her hand across my face and she stormed off.
I went back to my friends who were laughing tears, asked “OK, what did I say?”
I was stationed in Berlin straight from Korea so I was more comfortable with Korean greetings when I first got there. Plus I knew some Spanish from growing up in So Cal.
I remembering going into Clay HQs and the young German Guard greeted me in English, you could see he was quite pleased with his attempt. So I wanted to reply in German but got all the languages confused in my head and replied ‘Buenos Tardes Senior’.
He looked quite confused and I felt bad not wanting him thinking I was mocking his attempt.
I had more issues with ‘Nay’ which is no in German but yes in Korean.
Nein (pronounced like the number 9) means no in German, so I can see why he was confused…… 😬

A message board site that was most active during the Childress years. I think it formed as a result of the Tribune boards shutting down.

I never knew there were message boards until about 5 years ago, and the first few times I read them I got the mental image of everyone sitting in front of a keyboard in their mom’s basement, with a bra on their head.
The Star Tribune one was interesting. They required you to use your real name, so that seemed to keep things kind of in check because everyone knew you could be doxxed!

Thumbs are not used much here. At The Last Movie Outpost where I also hang out, we use upvotes all the time, though. I basically upvote anyone who replies to me or has even a moderately interesting post. It’s just reflex on that site.

Since most of you aren’t on the tweeter.
I think I successfully flipped someone off this morning driving into work. I went to go around him because he was in the left lane going too slow. He sped up (at least an additional 10 MPH) so I couldn’t pass him. I shot him the bird. The road opens up to three lanes and I slow down to get behind him and get to the left lane. He slowed down with me. The entire time I was giving him the finger. I finally get around him just as we’re pulling up to a light. He rolls down his window and is screaming at me, but the light turns green. I start to go and he stays right next to me with his window down screaming. I roll down my window, laughing at him the entire way. All the expletives, slurs and anything nasty he can think of comes out. He asked me to pull over so we can “talk about it”. I chuckled some more and then the last thing he said to me before he pulled onto the highway was “You drive a BMW a-hole”. All I can think about is how vulgar he was and how terrible his last line was. I guess he ran out of things to say. I wonder if he spent the rest of his drive thinking about something else he could’ve said or done. I had a smile on my face the entire drive in. I would just like to thank him personally. I wonder if I’ll see his truck again. I hope I do, but a black chevy pickup is all too common around here. Reminded me of the Seinfeld episode with George and the jerk store comment.

I just don’t get what the “speeding up to not allow passing” thing is about.
Happens often on my drive to work. I drive fast. Move back and forth to get around people. Occasionally someone will speed up in the left lane so I can’t pass them in the right lane. After I maneuver a bit and get passed them, they slow down to the speed limit. Whatever I guess.
I hate it. He saw me and gunned it. So stupid. Definitely worth it though.
My imagination always gets the best of me, and I assume that person is a psychopath who has randomly targeted me. Speeding up when I try to pass is merely the first step of their plan. Otherwise, I don’t know how to rationalize someone being that bad of a driver.
Some people are just dumbasses. He probably had a Biden/Harris 2020 sticker on his bumper.

I just get in the right lane, set my cruise at the speed limit and enjoy the ride. If I catch up to somebody and they’re not going super slow and there’s traffic in the left lane, I’ll just slow down. I’m in no hurry. Why stress and speed when 75% of the time I end up at a stop light with the people that have been speeding by me zig zagging through traffic?

There’s people that speed out here and it’s gotten worse since I moved here, but in general people drive slower. By slower, I mean closer to the speed limit. It’s a lot easier when the speed limit is 80 on the interstate out of town, 65 in and 70 on most 2 lane roads. Unless they are out of staters, the “speeders” here are maybe going as fast as your normal driver other places like the Twin Cities.

I go 5 miles an hour over on the interstate or highway, outside of that I travel the speed limit. My neighbor likes to yell about people on facebook about people driving too fast in my neighborhood, including me even though I go the posted limit, but he’s also a self centered prick who walks down the middle of the road with his two little purse dogs giving no shits about the cars trying to drive.
I drive waaaaaaaayyyyyyy too fast, but I am not one to cut people off. If it’s close I won’t turn in front of someone. I do hit 100 MPH on a regular basis on the highway.
IMO, anyone driving over 10mph over the speed limit is an a-hole, EXCEPT in the situation of driving to the hospital or something like that. No reason to do it, just being a hazard and being dumb. I don’t care if you “aren’t swerving in and out”, which you likely are because you typically have to be, but you are causing unnecessary stress to everyone on the road. Good job showing off that you can press the gas pedal hard…

My two cents I don’t take that kind of chance. Way too many people with a lot less to lose than you. My wife once flipped someone off while I was driving, they went postal screaming at me to pull over etc and I told my wife thanks for that…do that on your own time.

In such a situation, I believe the rule is never pull over to talk to those people, and if you are stopped, and they get out and bang on your window, just look straight ahead and ignore them until you can get out of there. Anything you do will be gas on a fire.
Kind of like PMS…
If they start pounding on your window, un-holstering your Glock usually calms the situation down.

I read the story behind that not too long ago. There was something wrong with the teleprompter. He nailed the “Boom goes the dynamite” part, though, because that was something he and his friends said to each other while playing Mario Kart or something.
Yeah, poor kid, that would suck being on live TV like that, I had a radio show on the the college station back at SSU but the worst thing I ever dealt with was the programming director bitching at me for talking and taking too many calls between playing actual music.
I had a radio show for 4 years and loved it. Here is my biggest open mouth and insert foot moment of my life:
It was a metal radio show and there was a tattoo shop just down the street who always played our show. One day they called and said could we please promote a fund raiser they were doing. The fund raiser was there was a little girl who’ daycare lady tried putting her in boiling water and damn near boiled off her foot. She had 2 unsuccessful surgeries on the foot so the Shriners were taking the health care over and were going to do surgery at their hospital I think in Cincinnati (where ever it was it was a long way from Sioux Falls). So the fund raiser was to raise funds for the mother to be able to fly down with her little girl. So I tell this whole story and then say, “That’s what it boils down to…” I fucking froze. Just had waves of oh shit wash over me. My co-host falls off his chair and out the door laughing. I was like, “we make a lot of dumb jokes on this show but that wasn’t meant to be one.” lol.
What kind of fucking psychopath tries to boil a fucking baby, just wow. But that would have been a hilarious intentional joke anyway.

I have to be really careful with my choice of words when I consent patients. Like planning to place a drain in the abscess and they tell you it has been draining and smells foul and I say, “That stinks”. Or someone with terminal cancer tells a story about a prank played on them and I say “I bet you were dying inside”. This has happened to me.

First weekend home in a long time. Smoking a pork shoulder and brisket tomorrow… gonna RULE! I already have the pork in a marinade. Going to run home over lunch and put a rub on the Brisket and going to get really squirrely and put a rub on the pork as well. I’ve never tried doing both a marinade followed by a rub. Typically I do a rub and let it sit in the fridge for at least 10-20ish hours. But not sure if that is necessary with the marinade and the rub. We’ll see how it goes.

Campchef Woodwind 32. I love Campchef. My first starter smoker was a campchef Smoke Vault. Then got the set and forget it Woodwind with all the bells and whistles.
Nice! the convenience of those is amazing. Never had a pellet smoker.

I always tell people don’t go Traeger they have been become quantity over quality. Go Rec Tec or Campchef. I had a buddy get the Rec Tec tell me he likes my Campchef more.
I still love my charcoal. A pellet grill would be convenient.
My first campchef was a fridge style smoker. VERY simple design. Just had 1 burner that was propane fueled. Very thick metal plate that went on top of that burner and I would do wood chunks on the middle of the plate where the burner was and then wood chips around the outside and would blend different types of wood. Above that was a water reservoir that both acted as a shield for the wood not getting dripped on and kept the inside moist. Very good, inexpensive smoker but needed tending to and had to keep an eye on the temperature level.
Similar to my charcoal smoker then. Charcoal on the bottom along with the wood, then a water pan above it, and two levels of racks above that for the meat. There’s a door on the side where you can add more charcoal and/or wood chips.
I had a Maxwell 8800 Dragon Series. Quad burner, dual carb and six different flavor ports. Was tricked out. Had auto-crank rotisserie and USB ports. 16 inch LED screen in the hood, humidor attached to the side-tray. Could single-handedly smoke a Water Buffalo or 15 Nepalese pirates with scabies. Was a bad mamma jamma. Then it threw short of the sticks on 4th and 8 so I ran it over with a stolen dump truck and went inside and made a pot pie in the microwave.

I would like the convenience of a pellet, but I love the smoke flavor I get with wood/charcoal.
My Campchef you can set the smoke level. Some of those pellet smokers really lack in smoke flavor… mine does not
I think I would go with a gravity fed charcoal/wood smoker if I ever get tired of the ones I have. Weber kamado is so good at holding temps I can smoke for 20+ hours without refueling.

Good guy, cannot grill steaks, super accurate arm, cannot really handle pressure up the middle.
He has way better arm talent than Fran, Culpepper, better command of the offense than either, Fran ran around (effectively) like a chicken with his mick cut off which would not play today. Favre was the closest for 1 yr and probably a tick better overall but ultimately blundered way worse than the 4th & 8 in the NFCC with the across the body throw which destroyed everything he accomplished that season with one silly throw.
Kirk handled pressure fantastically the past two years especially last year standing in and throwing absolute dimes for scores then getting absolutely destroyed. Payne in Wash said we beat the hell out of him and he kept taking the shots and executing the plays. My hat’s off to him. I’ll take his word that Kirk handles pressure just fine over yours. You seem to be holding on to the beaker parroting from five and kodiak from 3 yrs ago…let it go.
I will say, during the regular season, Kirk has been much better at coming from behind when needed the last two years.

True it’s not just on him. He is the ultimate executor…tell him what to do he’ll do it…so I think we have to realize that KOC shoulders some of the stagnation being the play caller, every play he calls is not the right play.
Also note this is the first time in Kirk’s career he’s in the same scheme with the same play caller in his ear and all the guys know the play’s intuitively and can just play and not think. I think we’ll see a crispness to the offense this season.
This will be interesting when Kirk is still average.

Dalvin runs a flare to left about 3 yard in backfield – would you toss to him the way he was stumbling falling that game? So we are left with KJ and Hock. As i explained yesterday (Watch burrows in SB) .if you wait for KJ’s route, you’ll be on your can. So what’s left?

Well, then we will agree that we have different views of the QB role (or play). I don’r like the available options, but do believe you can throw short of the sticks and still get a first down. Believe Hock did in fact get two or three this very game. Not going to buy throwing into triple coverage – especially that qujckly. So we disagree.
Pause this video of the play at 3 to 4 seconds and notice KJ past the first down marker. He appears to have a break and a step on the defender. Could Kirk have decided to try that throw? To me it looks like Kirk is dialed in on Hock no matter what. Kirk is not even looking downfield.

There’s two problems with this. First he’ll get hit before he can make this throw.
Second, real world football. Go in yard or whatever, find a tree 2 and a half feet wide. Stand a yard or so behind it and a little to the right. How’s your line of sight looking straight ahead and about 60 degrees to your left.
But say you have Xray vision. how do you throw a football around the tree to hit a target over there. I’ve thrown a lot of footballs and even more baseballs – and I can curve the hell put of a baseball. Bit I couldn’t come close to curving a baseball that much let a lone a football – they don’t curve.

Well. I guess. I think throwing to JJ was not the right move. The play was screwed because of the immediate pressure from DT. If Hock, had had the option of running a choice route, in instead of an out, the play would have worked.

At the 3″ mark KJ has yet to break open. Cousins is clean in the pocket, but in the process of throwing already.
At the 4″ mark Cousins is already being contacted by the DL pushing Cleveland into him. KJ broke his route inside, but the ball is already on the way to Hock.
You COULD make a case that if Cousins knew KJs route was to break in, he should have sent the ball there at the 3″ mark while he had the chance, but we’ve heard all about how the WRs had more liberty with their routes this year based on what the DB does after the snap, and maybe Cousins didn’t know where exactly KJ was going to end up.
If Cousins threw a pass short of the sticks on 4th & 8, the kicker wouldn’t be kicking.

I was there in person for the Buffalo game where Josh Allen schooled our D and make Kirk look terribad. And for the season ending Bears game where Kirk looked worse than any QB I have seen play live.
Remember, I still will not watch the NHL because the North Stars moved to Dallas.

In the fall of 2016, I went to the Skins/Packers game in DC. There are on line highlights of the game.
It was cold and wind gusts were near 40 mph. You couldn’t even kick PAT’s at one end of the stadium. Yet, Cousins and Rogers put on the best display of quarterback in those conditions I had even seen. Cousins completed four bombs into the wind that I thought were impossibel, so did his coach after the game.
So, I tend to think there’s always hope.

Personally I think these things are analysts parlor games. My read on Cousins, he’s streaky – sometimes he plays like a top 5, sometimes like a 15. Now, circumstances and the defenses have something to do with this, but he’s streaky. Also, I do think he’s the right type of QB to run the style of offense KOC uses.
