Vikings Discussion & More
Wow, this week is flying by! I’m running like crazy trying to get all of my work done before we leave for Minneapolis next Tuesday. I’m looking forward to the trip. I’m not much of a basketball fan, but it should still be fun. My idea of ‘good basketball’ is watching class B action in small town North Dakota, I’m guessing the NBA is slightly better. At the very least, the players will be much taller. It’ll be a good time to get out of Bismarck, it sounds like it’s going to be bitter cold and windy next week. @The weather in Minneapolis should be much warmer.@
Life is also flying by, it’s almost impossible to believe that my son is going to be 10 years old in a couple days. It’s a joy watching him grow up, but it’s a bit sad, too. I’m sure y’all can relate. It’s a reminder to make the most of the time we have together.
I still have zero enthusiasm for watching the Super Bowl. I’m glad that we have kiddo’s birthday that day, and I still plan to do some ice fishing instead of watching the game. The weather sounds fairly nasty, but as long as the wind isn’t crazy, it won’t stop me. The pop-up won’t tolerate strong winds, I’ve gone sailing across the ice in that thing once. While it was a fun ride, I don’t really care to experience it again.
Vikings News
Vikings.com digs into next gen stats to highlight the factors that led to the massive improvement in the Vikings defense.
One of my all-time favorite Vikings, John Randle, talks about the Vikings’ future on ‘Super Bowl Live’. I love Randle, everyone said he was too small, but his insane motor and raging intensity made him a dominant presence on the field, and propelled him from undrafted rookie to hall-of-famer and one of the best D linemen to ever play the game. Randall McDaniel told us that he had to go up against Randle in practice, and he practiced just like he played. He said something like ‘that guy ran wide open ALL THE TIME, even in practice, he went after it like he was playing in the Super Bowl.
NFL News
NFL.com looks at one offseason move for each NFC team.
The NFL is heading to Australia, and the Rams will be the designated team for the first NFL game in the land down under, from CBS Sports.
CBS Sports has a Super Bowl injury report for the Eagles, and a Super Bowl injury report for the Chiefs.
Media Selection
This was one of my son’s favorite videos when he was a little fella. He’d ask me “Dad, can we watch that crazy man again?”. I’m not sure how many times we watched this, but it was A LOT. Enjoy!

- Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.

KOC coach of the year
Figured he had a chance since it is a regular season award.
So only one of those final two disasters were considered.
JARED ALLEN GOING TO THE HALL OF FAME!!!!
Well deserved
I was reading a book listing from a large bookseller and then read their company profile blurb. They say they are a socially conscious business. What does that even mean? If you say you are socially conscious does that make you socially conscious? Does your social consciousness apply to everyone? Since you are a mega bookseller and undercut all the mom and pop stores in price therefore possible putting some of them out of business, does that make you socially conscious?
Deep thoughts…. by VP…
It means that they are Virtue Signaling so don’t ‘at them’.
It means they are flaming liberal fruitcakes and you should get as far away from them as possible.
Is KOC going to win Coach of the Year tonight?
I’d think so. Forgot that is on tonight. Check it out. Hope it’s not dragged out somehow.
Nope
This didn’t age well, mate 😄
Congrats to KOC, hope he and JJ will deliver that elusive Superbowl win soon.

The good old English language. How many cents does it cost to make sense of all the scents, since inflation started to rise?
I don’t know, but the Dems blaming Trump for the high cost of things is galling.
I heard Hillary blame the Sec of Transportation for the accidents ‘since he has been sworn it’.
What the first was hours afterwards and the 2nd like two days later?
It’s so inane. The Dem’s will twist the narrative every possible way to try and demean the Trump administration. They’ll say anything, no matter how stupid it is.
She also mentioned the software engineers that ‘were too young rent a car’,
Sec Transportation replied that ‘”Madam Secretary, with all due respect, ‘experienced’ Washington bureaucrats are the reason our nation’s infrastructure is crumbling. You need to sit this one out,”

I’ve been watching the Kilauea eruption periodically last couple of days. Is it a coincidence I tossed a gum wrapper in the caldera and an eruption started? I THINK NOT!
MT is the whole cause of climate change.
pissed off Pele
Since there has been so much religion talk today, I have decided to bless you with one of my favorite religion jokes (apologies if I have shared it before.)
A man, (a Christ follower) died and ascended to heaven where St. Peter met him at the pearly gates and offered to show him around. St. Peter took him to one great hall where there was a worship service going on with much joy, dancing and singing. St. Peter said “these are our Pentecostals” . St. Peter than took him to a large open picnic area where there was a BBQ picnic with softball, frisbee, delicious food and beverages. St. Peter said “these are our Catholics”. Then they arrived at a sturdy church building and quietly entered into the back row, people we solemnly sitting and reading the bible and praying to themselves. The man asked St. Peter “Why is there no joy, here? Why is every one so quiet and solemn?” St. Peter replied “Shhhhh! These are the Baptists, they think they are the only ones up here!”.
Nice. I will have to remember that the next time I talk to any of my Baptist relatives.
The Morman’s have reserved seating right?
No, they become Gods and Goddesses of their own planets as long as they wear the special underwear.
It is interesting seeing the different outlooks of all of the characters on this blog. I find it fascinating how everyone was shaped by nature and nurture to see the world the way they do. It is also interesting how groups of people will try to lump everyone into a certain “bucket”. Liberal, conservative, libertarian, democrat, republican, etc. However, everyone has a unique view of the world. My dad was a Pentecostal preacher and not the modern day mega-church Pentecostal, but a 1950s, ultra-conservative (religiously), early American Pentecostal that had slide away from his roots until he rediscovered those roots in East Texas. Even in the mid-century Pentecostal movement, East Texas was probably more conservative than most areas. From the outside, the bucket that people would put him in would be ultra-conservative, science hating, government hating, racist, closed minded bigot. He was very, very conservative, however he was always very interested in science, never mentioned any hate or fear of the government and all of us kids all had all of the vaccines and medical treatment necessary. The churches back then in East Texas were very segregated, and yet he went and preached in many “black” Pentecostal churches and never, ever said anything that was remotely racist. I guess the whole purpose of my rambling is that don’t judge anyone by just a small glimpse of what they look like or a small glimpse of what they say on a blog. You can be conservative and be a doctor. You can be conservative and not be a government hater. You can be a liberal and not be sucked in by “gun control”. You can be a conservative or a liberal and not be a bigot. We are all very unique.
you know what one can’t do? enter Heaven without confessing with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and truly believing it.
This is an absolute that I agree with….
I disagree. What if you can’t talk and repent in your mind?
ok that’s fair. you win.
confess that jesus is Lord.
That is an interesting question that deeper religious and philosophical minds than mind have pondered. I officiated a funeral where I did not necessarily agree with the majority of the people on some theology. I ministered to those that were in attendance and kept my mouth shut on my own opinion. I believe there is a path to follow, but I also believe that path may not always look the way that I think it should. For example, some people I know do not believe in death bed conversions. I disagree. What if a person can’t talk and sincerely repents in their mind? Will they go to heaven? I am not the final Judge. God is.
death bed conversions can absolutely happen…
thief on the cross is a VERY good example. Jesus invited him to join him in paradise as he was dying.
Correct.
That is the eulogy I gave at my Dads funeral.
If I can sin by lusting in my mind, Jesus can save if I mentally confess he is LORD.
A wise and thoughtful post. We all know better, yet we all have our lapses.
A nice reminder.
A good commentary on the need to avoid over-generalizations.
In Grad school I learned it as the parable of the Blue eyed Boar.
At a Catholic I cannot tell one Christian Demomination from another.
Other than Lutherans which are closest to Catholics.
Lutherans are Catholics without statues in their churches.
See, I can say something thoughtful with one post and then be flippant with another. I am an enigma.
Or a confessional
Or praying to the Virgin Mary.
Man, don’t tell a Lutheran that!
Knowing all of the main differences between denominations are a fun hobby of mine.
Lutheran and Catholics have completely different soteriology, which is why the Reformation happen. Catholics do a more infused grace thing, which emphasize faith and works in achieving salvation.
Luther basically popularized salvation by grace alone through faith alone.
The Wrenage breakdown of denominations goes like this:
Catholic, Protestant and Cults.
Cults include Jehovah Witness, Seventh Day Adventist, Christian Science, etc.
Catholic is Catholic.
Protestant breaks down into Lutheran and Reformed.
Reformed then breaks down into Baptist, non-denominations, Assembly of God, etc.
But at the upper level, the main difference between Lutheran and Reformed are in the areas of Lords Supper, Baptism, Decision Theology and Eschatology…
You can sign up for my Religion Class for only five easy payments of $19.99!
Can I pay in Skoloholics bucks?
Heck yeah!
Ok, I have to hit up Gone Fishin’. He has been slow in paying me for all my comments.
Also remember I said I was an enigma, which is better than having an enema.
When I hear the term “Reformed” I tend to think of Calvinistic tenets. There are plenty of Non-Lutheran churches who think Calvinism is full of shit. Just saying….
Calvinists believe that, at the beginning of time, God selected a limited number of souls to grant salvation and there’s nothing any individual person can do during their mortal life to alter their eternal fate. Either you were chosen or you were not chosen, and that’s all there is to it.
Tad radical.
The Bible does say whoever is written into the book of is saved.
I believe GOD knows ahead of time who gets in and who doesn’t.
So obviously you are just wishy-washy (am I doing this right?).
Perfect.
Guess i’ll pull for Chefs. Poopeater fans unquestionably the worst in football. Hoping for bad officiating and poor calls to determine game. I want drama, turmoil.
Still undecided if I should watch. I even have Monday off, so I could.
I doubt you have to hope too hard to get bad officiating or poor calls. That’s almost a given in today’s NFL.
I plan on fast forwarding through the game, watch the commercials, and enjoy SB snacks prepared by my wife in an apron and nothing more…well maybe not that last part but a guy can dream.
Your snacks will have an apron?
yup that way we minimize the mess I make. My wife likes to point out to my youngest granddaughter what the floor looks like under my chair compared to under her chair. I have to swiffer that area every day.
Tell your wife to clean that mess up under your chair. That is her job afterall.
I just pictured an old man wearing nothing but an apron, and I can not un imagine it. Thank you MT.
Well, that’s pretty much what I get every day with hip injections and the like, old guy/gal in an open back hospital gown.
There should be a Guinness record for how far the ball sac can hang down between your thighs.
I’m sure coverage will start with ESPN at 9:00.Toss in NFLN and Fox. 8+ hours pregame. Think game about 5:30 CST.
The pre-game stuff is ridiculously overdone. I wouldn’t give a wooden nickel for most of the talking heads opinions in the first place and then they will all just say the same stuff over and over and over and over.
What do you have against ‘wooden nickels’?
Those things are pretty rare, a collectable.
Sad story.
My Cousin has been battling neck cancer that last 5 years.
Had it under control the last two years, but it came back with a vengeance.
Goes to U of MD hospital for another round of Chemo, has a heart attack and is likely now brain dead.
My point is that I know vaccines aren’t the same as this situation, but it is another reason why medical treatment isn’t all it’s made out to be.
I assume he knew the risks.
Condolences!
Chemo causes heart attacks?
I guess anything stressful can, especially with other health issues present.
Correct. Chemo is extremely hard on the body.
Cancer sucks.
Mouth and neck cancer is the worst. Any hx of smoking, EtOH, or chew?
Not smoking.
Perhaps chew.
Dont really know him that well.
Had a few holiday events with him.
A pro JJ (QB) article that is long on hopium and short of actual data.
Fun read regardless.
https://thevikingage.com/jj-mccarthy-gives-minnesota-vikings-more-evidence-superstar
I’d rather have articles about how JJ McCarthy is a bust. (Sarcasm)
I still haven’t decided if I’m watching the SB. If I do, I will probably toon in late, skip the halftime show and then see what the second half looks like.
The Teacher might turn it on for the commercials.
I might follow the score and turn it on if something interesting happens.
They are trying to blame the ‘new media’, podcasters, influencers for the narrative about the NFLs pro Chief biased calls.
https://sports.yahoo.com/super-bowl-2025-travis-kelce-wants-to-know-why-media-is-leaning-into-this-whole-ref-thing-well-heres-why-195123517.html
I’m watching it.
Not the halftime show.
What else am I going to do?
Watch dating shows with the wife?
Eff that.
Agree. Two best teams in football and no more football for several months.
Commercials yes, half time show no. Last year’s was terrible.
The commercials are not anywhere near as good as they used to be. Now there is too much social agenda.
That’s true too but many are still better than what you might see watching Real Housewives or something else with the wife.
I remember a few years back, a small mom and pop store ad was accidentally ran during the Superb owl and the small business was overwhelmed with calls.
So the Jets are hiring Slick Rick as a ‘senior football advisor’?
Have not those poor bastardo’s been thru enough??
https://thevikingage.com/rick-spielman-decide-aaron-rodgers-fate-new-nfl-role
LoL!
Jets are gonna suck forever!
Phyre Wryck!!!
Match made in heaven !!
Maybe he’ll reunite with Kirko.
He would probably pay him $30 million guaranteed too.
What do you think the trade value is? 1st and a fourth?
2 1sts, 2 2nds for Kirk and 4 7ths
The four 7ths makes it a deal. I was just going with the Bradford deal.
You could throw out Kirk and Wryck would still agree to the deal
An oldie but a goodie on the Rick gif…..
Will Jared Allen finally make it to the HOF???
Don’t know if his play warrants him getting in.
I would support him just because he is/was a Viking and he is not woke or an embarrassment to Viking Fans.
I’d say the most unqualifying attribute is that he played for the Vikings.
HOF tends to stay away from Vikings unless its way too obvious.
I think you’re thinking of Eli Manning.
But SB wins count I guess.
I think this is VikingPhillips blog that he tried to create.

If I even knew how to find X, that would probably be my speed.
I don’t try to find my x’s. Better left in the rearview mirror.
Well plaid.
And very true.
Rec for you.
I thought Josh McCown was our QB coach?
He is.
At 29 I was still an idiot.
At 60 some still think I’m an idiot.
Oh I am an idiot.
There was a thread on X about that episcopalian lady who got political from the pulpit with Trump awhile back. Apparently, she is part of an organization that DOGE said took $53 million in taxpayer funds.
I said, “I just wish some of it would have went to makeup…”
No one liked it. Come on, people, that was gold!
Government funds (taxpayer dollars) appropriated to organizations that then took an role in trying to impeach Trump, sue Trump, and destroy Trump show how deep the deep state is. U.S. citizens need to see the reality of how the Dem’s used taxpayer dollars to destroy their political opponents. This must be exposed, and prosecuted.
When I see all the Libs protesting Doges actions I notice that none of them every say that the accusations are not true.
I wonder why that is??
Elizabeth Warren tried to deny taking money from pharmaceutical companies and then was fact checked and shown to be one of the largest beneficiaries of big pharma money.
Bernie claimed his “pharmaceutical” donations were from small donors. His supporters will believe anything.
I would believe that would fall under perjury.
Only if done under oath.
But it would be used against them once the truth was fully out, probably during their next election.
Yep, I have no problem with transparency of tax dollars. If the organizations have nothing to hide, no harm, no foul.
Elon is just there to steal our personal information
I will give a Rec for it.
Although I think putting make up on that is more akin to putting perfume on a pig.
Now I think this lady was dead wrong to use tht service for that purpose that day.
But believe she is like a Bishop in the Episcopalian church.
They were getting funds from the government?
Yeah, her church has an immigration branch that takes taxpayer funds.
Episcopalian churches are more social organizations than churches these days. I don’t know if they even qualify as Christian beyond semantics.
Well they run The National Cathedral Church.
Running a church and being a Christian can be two different things.
Exactly.
Of course but that Church is defacto the Church of the United States. Every major event in DC with any kind of religious connotation is held there.
Doesn’t mean anything. Doctrinal positions are found in doctrinal statements. The official position of the episcopalian church is that they are pro-gay. They also recognize Islam, Buddhism and whatever else. Those official positions are not compatible with Christianity.
Certainly, there can be genuine believes within the church, probably lots of nice people. But official source doctrines are what is used to define if a church is Christian or not. According to the source documents, episcopalian is heterodox to the point of being more of a social organization than an orthodox Christian organization.
Them’s the breaks when dealing with source documents. Definitions matter.
Unfortunately that applies to many main stream church organizations today.
Zactly…folks need to find themselves a good old Baptist bible believing Christ loving church!
Baptists are Christians?
Well yes. If you ask them they might say they are the only ones.
Baptists or Southern Baptists?
Big city Baptists or rural Baptists?
There are no big cities in North Dakota, they are all rural Baptists.
Isn’t that true? I say that though because in many denominations, at least in the past, there was often a distinct difference in the rural versus city churches. For example back in the 1920-30s, the city Methodist churches had already become more “modern and sophisticated” while the rural churches still had people running the aisles, shouting loudly and ladies “dancing in the spirit” until their hair fell down and their shoes were kicked off. You would be hard pressed to find any Methodist church like that now, but there are still differences in rural churches of many denominations.
Agreed.
I am not familiar much with the Southern Baptists…I cannot speak much about their faith and beliefs. I do know that politically they seem to slant left.
My congregation is NAB affiliated….North American Baptist….
My Grandmother was Southern and they were strick. Like she’d say ‘lips that touch liquor will never touch mine.’ And meant it.
Also got the mouth washout with soap for cussing.
In my opinion, the Southern Baptist leftist political bend is because they are more racially diverse which may cause a more economical left lean versus a social/moral right lean. I’m sure there is a lot more to it than that however.
Those I knew were religiously conservative, but were or had been very poor during the depression. As such, many were moved by FDR ‘saving America’ and were democrats as a result.
It wouldn’t have helped anyway.
Like “lipstick on a pig”?
asking for a friend
Or polishing a turd.
Putting lipstick on a polished pig turd?
That is gold.
Maybe Episcopalians don’t have a sense of humor.
Colonel Potter was Episcopalian, he seemed to have a pretty good sense of humor.
Correct.
Presbyterians are the real problem.
See Winchester.
I thought Winchester was hilarious. He was a distinct character from Hawkeye and BJ, but he wasn’t a wimp like Frank and stood up to those 2.
Sorry to burst bubbles. You do not get the flu from the flu shot.
You experience flu-like symptoms as your immune system reacts to the inactivated (or extremely weakened) virus in the vaccine, but you don’t “get the flu.”
If, by some stroke of bad luck, you DO get the flu right after getting the shot, it was already colonizing inside of you and you were going to get the flu regardless.
Then again, this IS the government we’re talking about. And they lie.
So we should not believe our lying eyes?
Just trust the science the government tells you to.
You can’t hide yore lyin’ eyes.
I’m just assuming sarcasm and you guys busting my balls on this issue.
No, really. They lie.
It is the thing that they do best.
Heh heh you don’t say. Wait, does that mean when the TSA says they detect and detain multiple terrorists with explosive devices and weapons each and every single day, which justifies them patting my pockets every time I fly, they might be wrong? More like every hour, you think?
One of the Unsubscribe podcasts I watched they said a friend of theirs forgot he had a 1911 in a shoulder holster and got on a plane no problem. Herrerra said he was doing something with explosives (like C4) for his company in the morning, went straight to the airport and their explosive swabs detected nothing.
And now for something completely different:
Rumor has it that the Oilers are interested in acquiring Brad Marchand from the Bruins. Would hate to see Marchy leave, but at least he’d go to a contender.
The German is red hot right now. Give the Blackhawks credit last night for coming back to squeak out a point. Too much puck watching by the Oil late in the third.
Oh well, at least they left Hyman sitting all by his lonesome in front of the net in OT.
Oilers in general are red hot right now. Will root for them (and the Mild) once it’s official that the Bruins will not make the playoffs, which they most likely won’t. Shame, but they are just not good enough this year. Something’s amiss with that team.
Mild suck Hun, don’t waste your time.
I saw a few of their games, they looked good most of the time. Injury bug bit them lately, missing Kaprizov doesn’t do them any favors, Hartman suspension for 10 games sucks as well. Too harsh a penalty IMHO.
2 consecutive shutouts to Senators and Bruins. Unwatchable.
Pretty amazing coincidence that the few times I got the flu shot, I got the flu within a week.
Both you and NVF need to apply to the papacy for sainthood, miracles taking place within your bodies.
I do not get the shots. But I am nine days into the flu right now and I get better like 2 -3% a day. It’s maddening.
You may have convinced me to get the shot next year.
This sucks.
I got better in 4 days, the wife is on day 7 with hardly any improvement.
My wife is on nine also, and hardly much better. this is a tough flu. Crappy way to lose weight.
Glad you’re better.
That’s funny.
Well, here’s the skinny on that:
You could have been exposed to the flu either before or shortly after getting the shot. It takes several days to a week for immunity to build up.
You could have something else that has flu-like symptoms.
You could just be having an immune response as you develop the antibodies to fight the vaccine virus. Happens to me every year.
I get the flu every time I get the flu shot. 100%. I get the shot, and within hours I’m running a fever, have flem and a cough, and feel achy all over. This lasts 3 or 4 days usually, but has lasted over a week as well.
Obviously not the flu and just a side effect.
Oh yeah… I have flu symptoms, not the flu…
How does one add a Gif that’s not found in the Giphy widget?
Asking for a friend.
Find the one you want, right click, “copy link”, and paste here. The address usually has a bunch of stuff after the file type that can be deleted (.gif)
It’s magic so you have to hire a wizard.
Vikings assistant quarterbacks coach Grant Udinski is going to be OC for the Jags.
Baby goat, will be reborn.
Love John Randle, one of the few jerseys that I own. He joined the PFT set yesterday as they are set up down in New Orleans for the week. He had a couple of good stories about his playing days. He did mention that he was really bummed out when the team let Jack Del Rio go. Sounded like he really liked Jack.
Did you ever see the “house” he grew up in? I would consider it a shed.
Yes, a poor area somewhere in Texas if I remember right. Maybe it was a different state though.
Yes, it explains why he enjoyed himself so much as a professional athlete.
Mumford, Texas.
Went to tiny little Texas A&I – Anonymous & Invisible. Same school as Darrell Green.
Too small to ever amount to anything in the NFL.
My mom grew up in Texas and I remember driving through some rural areas and seeing houses that would not even be a good shed. Shack is a better word.
I work a bit with AI here and there, first with ChatPGT and now Grok.
I asked Grok if he swears. He said will use colorful language if necessary. I told him it was okay to be as colorful as needed contextually in our conversations.
Now he swears all the time…
Heck yeah!
I have a fun time with AI. It is an interesting development.
Like, the Internet was a huge development because of the way it gives everyone all of this data. AI is now delivering that data is a much more conversational, personalized targeted way.
Like I could see counselors getting replaced by AI. I go to marriage counseling with the wife here and there. It has been necessary sometimes when dealing with a particularly grueling, emotional issue.
I did not particularly like any of the counselors, except pastors. They are cool.
I experimented with using AI as a counselor and holy moly! It gave an amazing response, completely objective, not for any side or the other, along with tons of practical communication advice.
Straight up truth, AI was better than 100 percent of any secular counselor I have heard dispensing advice. I basically read through its response with my mouth open in disbelief that it was that good.
So it told you you were not to blame for anything?
Grok is a man in my opinion, so…yes!
It said it blames Ponder.
The little AI blurb that pops up when I do my google searches is pure gold. Had a patient with a subtle hyperextension fracture of the mid thoracic spine with associated DISH, I wondered if there was an eponym for that, put all that in a search term and the result was perfect! (no eponym).
Singularity is near.
We should see AI robots in our homes in our lifetimes, I would suspect. Still waiting on the flying cars, though. Although…
I ate Burger King this morning.
Sorry, belly. You did not deserve that…
RIP…..
Nasty
It was a moment of weakness.
Happens to all of us. You are forgiven.
When I eat fast food, which is seldom, Burger King is my 1st choice. I love the flame broiled burgers.
Agree they are much better than McDonalds.
Indeed. So much better.
All 3 of yall are WRONG
I don’t eat much fast food anymore. Part of it is the value, too. Now it is like $10 for a breakfast sandwich, drink and hashbrowns. It ain’t worth that much!
Long ago I would get their croissant sandwiches on my way into the office.
I learned that just because 2 for $3 was a bargain, it was still not a good idea to eat two of those each morning….
Taco Johns Meat n potato grilled breakfast burrito with chorizo is still my favorite fast food lunch, but I am pretty sure I tried most places when I was younger.
Now I have two eggs, spinach, and bacon or sausage on days that I eat breakfast.
My body does not respond well to high carb things anymore.
I have been making a lot of egg salad lately. For breakfast I’ve been having one piece of bread with egg salad on and another piece of bread with a banana, peanut butter and a bit of Nutella. A bit of savory and then sweet is a nice combo. Pretty filling, too.
The price of eggs has still not gone too crazy here.
Egg salad sandwiches are good. I have my own little way of making it. Chopped onions and a little bit of mustard added. Eggs are 6 bucks a dozen where I’m at.
If the egg salad is delicious if done well. Now you have made me hungry…way to go.
They are between 5-6 bucks here, too. A dozen sees me through about a week. I usually use four in my egg salad. I just uses mayo, mustard and a bit of salt and pepper. I can see using onions. Wife wants me to put some celery in for crunch. Not a bad idea. Extra fiber at least.
I would say add cayenne pepper, but I remember you have a weak stomach.
A dozen will last us a week also, so still not breaking the bank. It’s the restaurants that are taking the beating which of course gets passed off to the consumer. I’m biased on the onions, always liked onions. But yeah, the crunch is just as much reason to add them.
….salt and pepper always.
Unless the prices stay at that rate for more than a few months, most restaurants eat that added cost or don’t offer it. It would not make financial sense to change the menu for a temporary spike in prices.
When we owned a restaurant, right after covid, everything’s cost shot up. we lost money for most of the 1st year after covid. Until prices went down or we were able to get a new menu out with updated prices.
Yeah, I hear you about the menu. I heard on the radio yesterday that Waffle House is putting a 50 cent surcharge on every egg they sell, in every location across the country. They avoid messing with the menu this way. I’ve never eaten at a Waffle House.
We had to go away from wings because they were so expensive, and when asked why by a friend, I said are you willing to pay $2 per wing?
I like onions, too. I am going to put them in my next batch of egg salad. Probably make it tonight!
You should use smoked eggs.
??
How does one smoke an egg? (Griddle in a smoker??
I’ve tried some recipes from the interwebs but they all were less than good. I got this one from a relative and they are delicious:
3 dozen eggs, 1 cup morten tender quick salt, 1 1/4 cup dark brown sugar. Let soak for 10 hrs, then heavy smoke for 20 minutes (heat isn’t necessary).
You can do less eggs at a time obviously, just keep the salt and sugar about the same. They end up with a good salt, sugar, smoke flavor and are like eating candy.
The internet will tell you to just throw some hardboiled eggs in the smoker, but they come out super bitter.
I put mine on the smoker raw in the shell and smoke for about 1 hour at 225. The smoke flavor is not intense.
That would be better, but I like the sugar and salt flavor you get from brining them. I don’t like brining chickens and such before smoking though.
I use a jalapeno popper tray to hold the eggs. It keeps them from breaking.
Cool. Personally, I’d do about 1/12th of that recipe (less eggs as you say). 👍
Yeah I usually do about a dozen or two at a time if I have extra eggs that need to be used. I just figured I’d post the recipe as it was given to me.
Light the one end, suck the smoke through it.
Hard part is keeping them lit.
I was wondering how long until that joke came up.
Celery is evil.
I automatically substitute mushrooms whenever I see celery in a recipe.
True story. I had never had mushrooms until I read about them in Fellowship of the Ring (Samwise loved them). I asked for them at my next BD dinner and have loved them ever since.
My wife makes roasted veggies including mushrooms. They are very good that way.
I love finding some morels in the spring.
Morels or morals?
I worked at Burger King in Owatonna, that is where I met my wife.
An American love story, fo sho!
From the kitchen area to the aisle where the Drive thru operator goes back and forth (mostly late at night when it is slow), there is a shelf with just a slight gap between two microwaves. My wife-to-be was running drive thru and I had a whopper Jr that was made extra and I was going to throw it away, it was in the wrapper. My manager was talking to me and I see my WTB walking back to the drive thru window. I say watch this and I throw the burger between the microwaves and hit as she is walking by. She was soooooo pissed, the wrapper busted open and she was covered in ketchup, mustard and mayo.
That is a story they should make a movie of.
At least a scene in a Hallmark movie or some cheap rom/com.
It was a beautiful throw and impeccable timing. I did not expect it to explode all over her.

Your next line was, “I am so sorry, I will lick that off for you”
I am sure she was smitten.
Good one!
I met mine at a classy joint, Applebees.
Nothing wrong with Applebees. I love eating there.
I picked up one of our vizslas when he was a wee pup in the parking lot of Cabela’s in Owatonna way back in 2005. He was spoken for long before that but the breeder had one pup not spoken for and had all the puppies in a cage trying to attract someone to buy that last pup. I remember calling the breeder the morning he turned precisely 7 weeks old to arrange a pickup time and her son telling me they were all over in Owatonna…brutally hot and humid day I about exceeded the speed of light driving there from Roch.

Brad, I love that video. And yes, enjoy the time with your family. Kids grow up way too fast.
You guys hitting the water park again?
Timberwolves are fun live. It has been about 8 years since I have gone to a game. Pretty much like most sporting events, a large crowd makes it more fun, and you will pay 10 bucks for popcorn that costs 40 cents to make.
Still cheaper than Disney.
One more day to Friday!
