EFFECTIVE TODAY Brad, Mick and I agreed that there will be some moderation going forward. Similar to the old school DN days well before Covid, coral, etc. where people talked about everything but never went overboard or out of control.

Predicting another few cuts and signings Friday, although the pool of talent has to be fairly well evaporated by now based on who KAM has recently signed.
Changed this year, no multiple cut dates. I doubt a team wants to trim 37 at the last minute. Doubt much happens Friday.
They cut and signed a few players at the end of last week. I think there’s enough time yet before the final PS game that they might do some more shuffling after Thursday to get a closer look at some other players they might have been interested in.

Mick’s promised to give us 24 hours to think about what he decides. My guess it will remain an auction and we’ll each have one keeper from our current roster, although I’m not a fan of that after a year removed and values of players increasing and decreasing. We should either do a snake or an auction with all players available again. I haven’t decided if I will play if not one of those two options.
I don’t mind the keeper. I’m just not good at the auction style since last year was the only time I’ve ever done it.
I dropped my roster as my first pick last year hasn’t signed with a team, my second pick has a three game suspension, and my QB retired. I’m the same as you are, I’ll wait and see what Mick decides before I’ll play again.

I always kept six or seven players on the IR roster weeks after they were eligible to return just to keep them from Lifer.

Given the tenor of the day, a post on how I came to this site and sorta hang around. Two reasons.
First and maybe this is strange to many of you, I have never been around in person another Vikings fan. I’ve lived all over the country, traveled most of it extensively, but never come face to face with another Vikings fan. So, sort of second fiddle, this is my exposure and interaction.
Second and maybe just as strange. I grew up in a small midwestern town with about five bars. Most days, after work or so, folks went there to drink a little and talk. Conversations might be about the weather, crop prices, politics, the Cubs ( a lot) local sporting teams and events. Usually, many of the same people, but that was OK. Some of you may know what I mean. In some respects, coming here reminds me of those small bars. As I’ve gotten older, I fondly looked back upon those days.
Just a thought.

Might be a good place to start the year though. It seems like one of the successful teams every year starts around 15-16 in the power rankings.

I get a knee replacement end of september (after my walleye fishing trip), so I wil be home bound for a few weeks, and I NEED to have the Vikings on TV to survive..
I snagged the youtube ticket solo not the youtube.tv offer back in April. I have no idea how to access it….there is little to no information out there how the games will be broadcast. I downloaded the youtube app on my tv, says I have the subscription but absolutely nothing online on how to access the games on game day. I’m assuming game day the option to view games will be somewhere to click on in the YouTube app. Very poor roll out.

I was jk, but in my experiences with that app/website, when you subscribe to something that isn’t immediately available, like a ppv mma or boxing match, it doesn’t show you anything until its close to the event.
That’s what I’m hoping…I mean you would think they could come up with a place to click to say…subscription active games start 9/8 or whatever like Directv would do. Anyway…I have my doubts on how this will go and expect some glitches. They blew it on some other exclusive NFL game they carried a while back.

The Vikings current cap space is $10,248,000 via OTC.
Spotrac has about $10 million in cap space.
If the Vikings cut low salary players to get to 53, the cap space likely drops some.
When the Vikings sign PS players, that will cost about $2,500,000 in cap. The average PS is about $250,000 per player. They earn more or less based on years of experience.
If the Vikings cut some veteran(s) with higher salaries, the Vikings cap space will increase.
My best guess is after cuts and the signing of PS players, the Vikings will be around $11 to $12 million in available cap space. I think some higher priced players will be cut.
So the Vikings look to be going into the season with about $12 million in cap space before free agents are signed from other teams, after NFL roster cuts.

Funny I don’t recall the same outrage from those criticizing the USWNT about the US Mens Basketball all star teams when they lay the numerous eggs they’ve laid in international competition. Seems like the ire toward Rapinoe is because of her orientation and self confidence in being different. Some people apparently can’t handle that.

Here’s a little something to look for in the Thursday Night’s game…
Derek Hall, one of Seattle’s two second-round picks, had a great day of practice Monday, starting with pass-rush drills, and continuing onto the team portion of practice. During pass-rush drills, Hall showed off both power and speed to win several one-on-one reps, then when he was on the field with the entire defense, he had at least a couple of sacks.
I assume Hall will be playing in this upcoming game, and going against our second team and third team O-line. Could have a big night against us.

I know this is just a little dump off but the more I watch the connection between Cousins and Addison the more I like what I see. Addison had like 3 TDs yesterday…he and Cousins are dialed in.
I don’t know if outside a 7-7 drill that pass is completed. Cousins wouldn’t normally have that kind of time, nor the open throwing lane to hit that pass. As has been the case for what seems like an eternity, the O-line and specifically the interior O-line, will determine how good this offense is going to be. We have great skill position players, and we have one of the best QB’s in the league, but if the O-line doesn’t improve those skill position guys can’t reach their full potential.
The point of the drill is to get the feel of where to go and what to do when it is 11 on 11 and that’s more easily accomplished 7 on 7 then work to 11 on 11. Baby steps.
I agree oline yet again is what will determine the success of this offense. Sad really because if it was a strength we probably have a SB contender with our offensive skill sets. Oh well…another year….another group of turtles inside.

Rubbed a bit raw a few weeks ago when we got lectured about the content not being football related (which really doesn’t include me as very little, if any of my content is political) – the lecturer referenced ‘building the site’ cited low new user numbers, picked an argument with one of those new users (who talked about walking IIRC) then a few days later there’s no new daily thread – which is kind of essential to what we’re doing here but I get it, things happen, but then the lecturer drops in, tells everyone he’s busy so he updated the title (when presumably creating a new thread is just as easy) and leaves. So which is it? Are y’all trying to build a site and be consistent? How is that possible when an Admin is too lazy/busy to post a daily thread? The cries of ‘building a site’ fall on deaf ears with action (or inaction) like that.
I’m not gonna expand on this anymore but the last several weeks won’t be how it was being run.
They’ll be threads each day by one of us now and specializing in OT and game day threads will likely be the priority. Expanding to a new platform are the next steps.
Trying to get new users and finding ways for the site to make money is critical. This site doesn’t run for free, it’s actually not cheap at all, and right now it makes a whopping $0.
I don’t care that the site makes zero $. On the ‘About Skoloholics’ tab there’s zero mention of trying to turn a profit – only mention is a community for Vikings fans and Vikings related content. I could care less if the site profits a penny.
And the best way to get new users is to insure they have a DAILY thread to go to for discussion – not showing up mid morning and ‘changing the title’ doesn’t cut it.

Overall, we tried it, and it didn’t work. We want to grow the site and shift platforms but costs money and right now it doesn’t make a penny. But to get it to make money so we can do improvements this is one of the next steps that has to be taken.

It is possible, but the team around Hurts is so bad ass that he will still be playing when the 5-level guys are eliminated.
I’d agree, but if he has another year like last year I’d say he’s legit. It’s hard to tell in that scheme as it seems to highlight his strengths and mask his weaknesses as well as having a roster of playmakers on both sides of the ball. Be interesting if Philly ever goes thru a rebuild during his tenure to see how he performs/leads with little to no help.

We all hope the defense makes a difference this year. We should have a potent offense, as we were ranked in the top 10 last year and most of the offensive players struggled with the scheme right through the end of the season. Remember in week 18 when we were in the red zone against the Bears and Cousins threw the fade to the corner of the end zone and Thielen broke inside to the post? You’d think by that game they would have been on the same page. In general, the offense ran on spectacular QB and receiver plays. I expect that to be much better this year.
Anyway, a new defensive system, new coach, new players, and lots of hopium is where I’m at right now.
I think scheme is probably a little overrated but has to be respected as an intricate part of the result. You can say X’s & O’s < Jimmies & Joes and that is true on a simplistic level becasue you can have the best players and if they don’t know what they’re doing in unison then it will not work. It’s about putting players in the right positions to make plays based on what they do best and enabling them to see and react as a unit. Flores scheme seems to allow players to do that.
“Seems”… we’ll see what happens when the rubber hits the road. I hope this is the case, but you said it. X’s and O’s have to blend with the Jimmies and Joe’s. I don’t care what scheme you run, if the players miss tackles, and blow coverages routinely, you’re gonna get beat.
Flores defense is a lot more senior-citizen friendly, is my guess. Less chances of falling down. Better tempo so game is done before supper at 4 p.m. Helmets are more accommodating of hearing aids so less miscommunication. Grandkid allowed on sideline. Scooter pit crews. Harry is going to thrive…like he is thriving at his new community at Shady Acres Retirement Home. Ask for a brochure!
