VIKINGS NEWS – more video highlights from practices, but no earth shattering news or injuries. We are all ready for football. Even pre season practice type football.
NFL News – FTP! Also, there is an NFL preseason game on tonight (Panthers vs Patriots) if you have NFL Network or are okay with piracy. Could be interesting to see how the QBs play for each team.
Question of the Day – Are you watching Pre-Season football, or Olympics, or doing something else with your time? (Football and Olympics both for me)
Media Selection – I feel this is appropriate
Thread Guidelines
- Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.
OK, glad I watched this game. The Lions look bad, and we know they are a very good team. If the Vikings look bad on Saturday, we know it’s just all the guys who will never make it in the NFL are playing.
I think we knew last year they were ‘a very good team’.
We know nothing about this year, ‘past performance is no guarantee of future performance’.
We know exactly as much as we did before the game, nothing!
Gonna watch the Lions vs the Giants tonight. I doubt either team will play starters much, and I expect the Lions to win.
Hope Giants let their defenders hunt.
It will make for an entertaining game.
14-3 Giants at the half.
Didn’t realize he was still playing…
Mens 400 finish was INSANE
like 2 days ago? that’s old news bro
Also, I just heard Harris is picking Walz as her running mate!
The dude squeezed blood from a stone to grind out that finish.
Kevin O’Connell said Darnold will start Saturday’s preseason opener before the team turns to McCarthy.
They won’t start perceived starters on O-line either. No idea what Raiders will do. Might get a qb killed.
Didn’t help last year when almost none of the starters played in the preseason.
Started bad.
Cousins hurt.
Didn’t matter.
No way to know. Total crap shoot.
this is a just for whatever it’s worth.,
Was listening a hour ago to this QB guru Palmer guy and he picked Darnold to be Comeback Player of the Year. Talked a great deal about his natural talent.
He’s not qualified for the award.
Has to be coming off an injury now.
Thanks didn’t know that. If he throws for 4000 yards and 25 TD’s (low INT’s) he’ll get my award.
Sure. That would be awesome.
I think it’s JJ sooner rather than later.
Probably. But whether JJ even sees the field is in Sam’s hands.
It is.
If the Vikings are winning with Sam at the helm, he will continue to play.
If the team is 0-3 and Sam is seeing ghosts, it will be JJ soon thereafter.
Wonder if Sam is actually playing really well and we still start like 1-4, then what. Beginning of schedule is really tough.
My guess is that JJ will get a start.
Got to try and change the energy/vibe.
‘Has to be coming off an injury now.’
Does Brain Dead count??
If so he might still qualify.
Well, Darnold would be a great QB story if he does well this year. Are there any other QB’s in the league who are starting over with a new team, and have never produced at a high level their whole career? Other than an O-line I worry about, Darnold has a ton of playmakers in their third year in KOC’s system.
Good news. I want to see both new QBs, and I am fine not seeing Mullens or Hall until I fall asleep.
Looks a little fall-like for you northerners over the next few days.
Fascinating discussion down below on the scramble vs no-scramble advice for the young athletic QBs.
One camp says that the young QBs should utilize all of their natural abilities, including scrambling, to be successful early and set themselves up for a prosperous career.
The other camp (Bradshaw and Jrboert) says they should work hard to learn to be a pocket passer 1st, so really minimize the scrambling. Otherwise they will lean on it too much and never reach their true potential.
Solid rationale from both sides. I am slightly in the Brashaw camp.
Thank you. I will wish for another 25K miles for the Subaru.
Rocket Science (looking at you Dobby) says ‘Pocket Pass all you can and run when you have too’.
Of course RPO can be utilized occasionally once the QB learns to ‘get down’ in time/safely.
Use your talents to maximize playmaking. (Scrambling)
Use your brain to minimize getting hurt. (Stay in the pocket)
Somewhere, Fran Tarkenton disagrees with Bradshaw.
Using a QBs legs to extend a play when the pocket breaks down is kind of middle ground IMHO.
He can still throw the ball away if no one manages to get open.
But he has to keep his head up and continue to scan the field.
Of course you want both. Unfortunately the discussion went sideways. Seldom is someone born with everything. It’s about providing the proper development so the player can develop to his fullest in all aspects of the game.
I am easy to please.
I want a QB with Kirk’s accuracy, and Lamar’s mobility, and Mahomes improv ability.
EZ.
JJ looks mobile from College film.
I don’t think he ran a 40, but he had one of the quickest 3 cone drills of all combine players I believe.
4.48
And Bradys gritt and inability to get phased in big moments.
Well the inability of the opposing defense to get to him when it counted, helped a lot.
True. In fairness to KC he never had a good balanced line.
He didnt always have amazing O lines, he did some seasons. He handled pressure, even when he knew it was going to get to him.
Nope. Thanks to the work of Football Outsiders, we can grab some offensive line data on the Patriots going all the way back to Brady’s first season in 2001. And with the exception of that specific season, they had an elite offensive line pretty much every single year, amazingly with the same line coach, Dante Scarnecchia. They ranked inside the top 10, on average, in both Adjusted Line Yards (ALY, which assigns credit to the offensive line in the run game based on a percentage of yards gained per carry) and Adjusted Sack Rate (ASR, which adjusts sacks allowed for down, distance and opponent) for the entirety of his tenure, and in most years were inside the top 10 in both metrics.
i think the obvious answer for every vikings fan is this….
we want a pocket passer until we want a scrambler until we want a pocket passer…
and so the cycle cycles
For the record, it’s much easier to be a scrambler than a pocket passer.
Unless you can’t run and are a statue.
Then you only have one option.
It looks pretty painful if a QB can’t move and struggles to move.
All QB’s in the NFL can run.
Most can.
I can think of about 5 who look clumsy trying it.
Ones in Atlanta
Like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Dan Marino for instance?
How about current active QBs.
Rodgers, Burrow, Jones, Goff, Cousins, Stafford, Carr??
All of them look bad trying to run it.
Is it easier to throw the ball away then to try and take off running?
It is, but usually guys who are good runners aren’t great passers, and vice versa. Good pocket passers make good pre-snap reads, good post-snap reads, and given a good pocket, deliver the ball to their playmakers adroitly. They end up with great production, because they use all the skill players on the field to attack defenses. They are force multipliers.
They may look ‘clumsy’ but that’s a list of pretty darn good Qb’s. Jones find of iffy but since he beat the crap out of us I won’t say much.
I’m starting to think it will be President Harris soon.
I’ve had a weird twitch in my arm lately.
All part of the plan.
You said you are feeling “weird”. You are obviously a right-winger.
‘You worry about things you care about.’
I worry because I care about who will win, if the country will take a nosedive or not.
You worrying is only normal.
I think insiders are worried that Joe could eff it all up.
Can’t take that chance.
Since somebody is thumbing down just about every comment today, I doubled down to give you all more street cred.
Maybe Lifer checked in.
Or GA Skol has NO thumbs down, so maybe he is having some fun today.
You’re welcome.
Thank you for the St Cred.
Why is that happening – a system error?
It’s not me, I usually only down vote Freezy’s comments.
This was talked about a bit yesterday.
Mark Wif said no extension talks yet for KAM or KOC.
“We have all the confidence hearing what we’re hearing from them, that they’re going about it the right way,” Wilf added. “But at the same time, we have to be — we want to win, but we also try to think long term about the health of the organization. Not just business-wise, but winning. And that’s what our fans want, that’s what we want. We’re trying to build for the long-term.”
https://fansided.com/posts/vikings-owner-zygi-wilf-lets-front-office-know-jobs-are-on-line-this-season
Joe Ryan is out with ‘some right tricep tightness’.
So it doesn’t look like a long term issue.

Don’t have faith i pitching. Indians tomorrow. That dude they got at deadline (Richards?) gave up 5 walks in .2 innings. Nice pickup.
5 walks and 2 Wild Pitches to boot.
2 WP’s too? LOL
3 game series this weekend.
It could be make or break.
Lose all three, and it’s mostly over.
Was Ryan scheduled to pitch?
Sunday maybe?
No clue.
No he would have been due to start on Monday.
I have happily watched zero baseball this season.
I have not ‘watched’ any either.
But I do follow the games on-line via ‘boxscore’ updates.
Just got a Notice of Data Breach from Ticketmaster.
I don’t remember the last time I bought anything from Ticketmaster.
15-20 years or more?
Whatever CC I used way back then is no longer valid in any case.
Could be Newsome trying to get more money out of you.
Got the same. Saw lions vs vikes at USB.
We figure it has been about 5 years, bought concert tickets.
No info they might have gotten is still valid except name.
Heck, even address is no longer valid.
Spams, scams, data breaches. Shit is out of control. I do nothing online, don’t trust a soul in this messed up world.
I got fraud alert with my CC a few years ago, could track the thieves on their trip using my card to fill up on gas.
All charges were removed from my bill. I asked the Lady from fraud dept how they got my info and she said ‘sometimes they just use random numbers and hit on an active card’ no defense against that.
Last two data breaches were both tracked to restaurants. One was a debit card. That one was a pain to get handled, but it finally was handled. Locked up my checking account for too long. Restaurant closed within 3 months. owner decided to steal to keep the doors open long enough to steal some more.
Other restaurant, it was the waitress that was guilty. That one was a credit card and much easier to get the charges stopped.
I think paying in person(when you hand your cc to anyone) is just as likely as online purchases to get your info stolen.
I use a debit card once in awhile for cash, never purchase. I purchased once and found someone hacked it from fucking Germany!
Got to watch those Euro’s.
Not Hun of course.
We carry enough cash to use when we think the place might be sketchy.
Just a vibe and you can be scammed at a national chair as well.
Joe Biden said if Trump wins, there will NOT be a peaceful transfer of power.
Then Joe Biden said if Trump loses, (apparently correcting himself) there will NOT be a peaceful transfer of power.
You then have Congressman Raskin from MD say that they will NOT certify the results if Trump were to win.
So i guess there will not be a peaceful transfer of power regardless of what happens.
Buckle up all.
This wasn’t mentioned much, if at all. before the 2016 election results in DC store owners were boarding up windows for fear Trump was going to win and place was going to burn up.
Preparing for mostly peaceful protests I guess.
If Trump wins, the summer of 2020 will look like Girl Scout campfires.
Must protect democracy at all costs, even if that means nullifying the vote of the American people.
Word salad and Tim proven champions of peace.
Stock Portfolio up 2.5% today. I would like to thank our wonderful President for doing such an excellent job.
Yep.
Using the stock market for political talking points goes both ways.
Praise Joe
&ct=g
Had a libetard friend of mine try to use the stock market as political points for President Biden. I informed them that once you factor in inflation, the stock market on average has gained just over 1 percent a year since Grandpa Joe took office.
Its beating inflation, but it isn’t making anybody rich.
Oh and Video of the Day = Monty Python Auto Rec.
Monty Python auto rec for the post that auto rec’d the Monty Python video of the day
I think you covered all the bases there HUN.
Rec’d all of you, I may come back and street cred you later, although I never do that so guess you’ll have to live without it.
Bow, the only running QB that I can recall being ruined by trying to be a pocket passer was RGIII, and that was because he and his father insisted that Shanahan stop using his scrambling skills. In RGIII’s own words “NFL means not for long, when it comes to running QB’s”.
I do agree with Bradshaw that if a QB doesn’t work towards being a distributor of the ball, vice a playmaker, they likely won’t have a long career, so the sooner they learn to read defenses, and go through progressions, the better. I would start that development on day one, personally. I’d bet KOC is doing this.
Not that anybody from here would have attended, but just FYI: Taylor Swift’s 3 planned concerts in Vienna (today, Friday, Saturday) had to be cancelled due to imminent threat of a muslim terror attack, according to Austrian police.
A nineteen year old, originally from Macedonia (and at least one accomplice, 17) have been arrested on Wednesday, they planned to drive into the audience in front of the stadium with a car and then proceed to stab/blow up as many infidels as they could.
A colleague planned to attend the concert on Friday, she’s royally pissed (understandably so).
Isn’t immigration wonderful? So vibrant, so enriching…
Not a Swift fan, but really good job there. This was a real threat, that was actually thwarted.
Indeed, those idiots could have done a lot of damage. Thankfully the authorities were on top of things, this time.
Not a fan as well, but I feel sorry for the people who would have attended. Apparently, many fans crossed the pond to take in shows in Europe because the tickets are much cheaper over here. Still, better to miss out on a concert than being killed in the name of Allah…
Indeed
Maybe you can send this to the US Secret Service.
They need help on how to stop a threat.
Have never been involved in security or criminal investigation. Have mused often how these guys and girls get there first lead or inkling that something is up. I read that in this situation their first lead was back ground checks on new hire security for the concerts, and some had ties to terrorist orgs.
Looks like the 17 year old tried to land a job with one of the companies providing security for the event. Good thing the authorities paid attention, for once.
Look at all those supporters. Apparently free concerts and paying people to show up isn’t enough.
How did MN fall for this dope? Here’s one of the many videos I referenced yesterday about this commie turd. He also has used his fake war service to call for banning “assault weapons/weapons of war”.
Most Minnesotans just find the D and check the box.
A few exceptions, but not many.
It’s been that way since I’ve been alive.
I forgot about that loophole.
There’s a small discussion below between Bow and NLV about JJ and scrambling around during preseason.
Something I heard from Terry Bradshaw a couple of months back was interesting on this. Terry’s a little smarter than the country bumpkin many think, esp. on QB play.
Hw was asked what he would do if he was the coach of one of these young athletic QB’s. His answer. ‘ All these young guys HAVE to learn to be successful from the pocket to be good long term. We know they can scramble around. So, he would tell his young QB. you are NOT to scramble – read the defense, go through progressions and deliver the ball. If you get pressure, throw the ball away. Learn to get very good and comfortable in the pocket.’
Thought it was an interesting perspective.
That approach makes sense, but it has also ruined QBs. You want them to learn to throw from the pocket, but you don’t want to take a tool out of their box either. You don’t go driving in the snow and say no matter what I’m not putting my pickup in four wheel drive. Then again, that’s exactly what my dad did to me when I was learning to drive so maybe for practice, preseason, initially you do that, but at some point you have to let the kid use all his skills.
Guys you take everything literally. He is NOT taking away their ability to scramble. He did not say stay in the pocket forever – this is practice. Preseason is practice..
there is a QB guru – believe Pamer is his name – instructs young QB’s going pro and claims most all are one read, once in a while two reads, and then hot feet. they have had success all their lives doing that.
This drill is practice to break this tendency, be patient and let the play fully develop, and ‘then’ scramble after all of that.
Nowhere does it say anything about only practice. It says to tell them they are not allowed to scramble, ever. I agreed that in practice then it probably isn’t a bad plan.
Sorry – though you and NLV were discussing JJ’s play in upcoming preseason game. at least that’s why I started with that.
Yeah we were, but that’s not what your quote says. If he was talking about practice and maybe even preseason, then I don’t really disagree. I don’t think you want to go so far as to get them second guessing it though either. Hesitation to run when he should run could get him killed too. At some point you have to let his instincts take over.
that’s not the point at all. And because I don’t think you have an idea what he’s saying, I’ll give up.
Maybe NLV can explain it for you.
If there was more context, then include it. Until then I will interpret what was quoted, not what he might have meant. As I said, if you’re talking practice, I don’t totally disagree with the idea, but I think there’s a fine line there.
Go back and read my original post. Didn’t I start referencing your and NLV-s earlier discussion about JJ and this preseason game. And then I said, Bradshaw’s comments were interesting about ‘this.’
And I think you are totally wrong about the ‘fine line’ on this.
You can disagree with me on the fine line, but I there have been plenty of scrambling QBs that were ruined because there was too much emphasis on keeping them in the pocket. That’s opinion and we don’t have to agree. No sand out of my shorts.
Your making a completely false strawman that I am not advocating.
I know a little about throwing baseballs and will give you a similar example.
Suppose I am a fastball pitcher. with a weak curve. You can bet your butt in spring training I’m going to be throwing s shitload of curves in just about all the spring games. Does that mean when the season starts I’ve lost my feel for throwing fastballs. Hell no, I’ve done it all my life – but maybe I have a more developed curveball.
I usually don’t get involved in this stuff, but when you say “plenty of scrambling QBs that were ruined”, can you give some names?
RGIII, Cam Newton. Shoot, when they’ve tried to make Josh Allen play in the pocket his play has dropped. Lamar Jackson was totally different when they were trying to get him to stay in the pocket more and Harbaugh was smart enough to quickly say f it, if he gets hurt he gets hurt. Ruined was probably the wrong word there, but that’s just a couple off the top of my head. In a perfect world, JJ learns to scramble like Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers. Only when necessary and make sure to avoid big hits, but I think he’s going to have to take a couple of those big hits to learn.
There is another side to that story.
RGlll became ineffective when the Giants rushed wide and said ok big boy, beat us from the pocket, The rest of league quickly followed suit.
Newton, he had his best year with Norv Turner learn ing to throw from pocket. Later he kept running and broke down.
Jackson after years of trying, has now learned to be a good QB from. the pocket and is now overall better.
Josh Allen has never had a problem because he couldn’t play from the pocket – mental mistakes are another problem.
I personally don’t think getting hurt is the issue – althjough no one wants injuries.
Thanks for the names. I don’t if I would agree that they were ruined by being forced to be pocket passers or not or if it was injury.
This is a tricky subject for sure. I tend to lean more toward that scramblers need to learn to be a pocket passer, but if they can scramble they should do so also. I like your examples of Russell Wilson and Rodgers.
I would say most rookie QB’s are one read guys. Baker Mayfield is still pretty much a one read and scramble around QB. If you have receivers who can “win quick”, and/or an offense that works on quick timing throws, a QB can be effective.
You really think Mahomes/Jackson/Allen etc… should just stay in the pocket?
If you take that dynamic away, these QB’s become one dimensional.
I do think that they need to learn to be in the pocket as they age.
But to claim everyone should just stay in the pocket in today’s NFL is short sighted on Bradshaw’s part. Just my take.
See above. This is practice in preseason. And no one said stay in the pocket all the time is the right way to play QB in today’s NFL.
That’s exactly what your quote says. It doesn’t say anything about practice, preseason, etc. Only you are not allowed to scramble, ever.
You want to play knot head today. Gotta be right guy – OK.
I started with you and NLV’s discussion below about JJ and scrambling in this coming preseason game. To me – preseason is practice.
Dude, I’ve already agreed with you after you clarified, but what you said initially was not what you thought. No biggie, it’s the internet and it’s a simple you knew what you were saying and it didn’t come through. It has now been clarified and we’re all on the same page.
I ain’t your Dude!
I give up.- we just interpret the English Language differently.
Looks like Sean McDermott has decided Josh Allen and the first-team offense will play about a quarter in Saturday’s game against the Bears.
BTW, I recently decided to “hang’em up” after almost 50 years of service to my country. I am wrapping up building a “Knowledge Management” repository, with thousands of files for whoever takes on my work, to use. It’s been a great ride, although also a hard slog at times. I notified the folks it was time for me to go to pasture.
The wife is happy.
Congrats on a great career! Thank you for your service!
Many thanks. My wife has her “honey-do” list already built. Grin.
50 years of Gov Service?
A good run of supporting Merica.
Plus you actually worked and served honorably unlike FJB
Congrats.
Thank you. So many folks have sent me well wishes the last couple weeks. The world has so many problems that were “on my radar” but that’s just never going to change. I still want to be “in the know” but really, I need to get over it. Time to let it go.
School is getting ready to start in The Teachers old district.
Lot of work friends and ex coworkers are giving her updates about the usual drama associated with the process.
She offers supportive words but does not miss the drama at all.
I suspect you will get to that point soon.
I broke it off cleanly from the prison but then it was prison.
Yes, last night my weekly meeting with Korea came up on my alarm settings on my phone. 15 minute warning. I turned it off and my wife laughed. She said, “take that off your phone right now!”
I had a an old watch that would sound an alarm every afternoon when I needed to leave for work, (I worked 2-10 pm).
The Teacher would tell me I needed to shut that alarm off but it just made me smile since it was a reminder that didn’t have to drive to work.
(watch didn’t make the move to Idaho)
Laughing. Truly old habits are hard to break. I’m up at 5 a.m. and go through my morning routine. Showered, shaved, and dressed, by 5:45. Then I make my coffee, and go over world news events.
5:45 am, EST?
You could start posting a reliable weekend thread.
#grin
Laughing. I could, but Bow and DE would have a fit. I’d post a picture of Kirk Cousins every day, just to piss them off.
At least that would boost up the ‘comment count’ every weekend.
Just the mention of Cousin’s name is good for ten comments.
Nice! Congratulations and many years of R&R!
Thanks, gonna do that. I’m gonna play golf, swim in my pool, and do whatever the hell my wife wants me to do!
And spend more time in the SkolAsylum of course.
Yes, I’m hoping the Vikings do well and at least get into the playoffs this year.
Congrats and thank you for your service.
I am turning 61 soon, and will be working at least 10 more years.
Maybe longer, if the government continues to find new ways to take my money,
I understand. My retirement fund took a massive hit during the Biden administration. I’m praying Trump gets back in office.
Congrats and thanks! I hear from retired people all the time that they’re busier when retired. 🙂 Hopefully you can get some more rest in there!
Unless you retire just as Covid is starting.
My retirement plans went into the dumpster with the Lockdown.
Thanks, I have thought about writing a book. I’ve lived in 26 countries, and done a lot of stuff. My wife said even if I never publish it, my life history would be captured for my kids and grandkids.
Very cool idea. Which was your favorite country to live in?
It wasn’t Somalia… grin.
I liked Portugal and Belgium probably the best. Most of the countries I’ve been in weren’t exactly “vacation hotspots” if you know what I mean.
Portugal is one of the most under rated countries i the world. A wonderful place.
Yeah I don’t doubt it. Sounds like I have to plan a trip to Portugal.
A huge BZ!!!! 50 years of patriotic service to our country is quite an accomplishment. America’s losing a great Patriot.
Retirements are like the book of Janis – endings and a beginning. Hope your pasture is green and lush.
And if you get bored hanging with the wife, you csn always come here and have a rational discussion about QB play.
Congratulations and all the best.
Thank you JR, might just take you up on it. Been a good run, and I consider myself blessed. I’m sure I’ll find some trouble to get into though. Grin.
Congratulations, and thank you for your service. If you get bored maybe Lifer can get you some part time work at his old balloon factory.
Laughing, and thanks. Lifer could give me golf instruction too. He apparently could hit his 7 wood farther than I could hit my driver, but he had some directional issues.
Thanks, that’s a cute kid!
Congrats and thanks for a long career of service.
Thanks Bow… maybe that new career as a male model (with my Adonis like body) will pan out.
Hey Congrats, NLNVF…
when are you done done?
Also, thank you for dedicating your life to our country. Few and far between these days, much respect to you.
Thanks Freezey. I’m officially cutting ties the end of the month, but have already turned in all my classified network devices, and started moving all my official records to the Federal archives.
Congrats !
You going hang out with Joe?
Thanks DE… not a big fan of Joe, and if I did hang out with him, he probably wouldn’t even know I was there.
I know you are not.
Joe is forced out. You retire.
Any connection?
Laughing… I honestly resigned my official position 2 and a half years ago, because of Biden, but was talked into staying on as a consultant.
I thought I remembered you previously talking about retiring. Now I’m less confused.
If I’m not mistaken, we have over 45 players on the roster who have never played in an NFL game, including 7 Offensive line rookies. Chances are we won’t see hardly any starters in the game Saturday.
Probably true. I am still watching to the bitter end.
Same.
Game is at 4pm. (EDT)
I usually don’t fall asleep until 8, so I should make it.
I believe we’ll see at least a half of football for McCarthy. At this point what we’re looking for is efficiency and good execution. As Bill Belichick says “do your job”. I’m a little worried about McCarthy breaking contain and trying to run around and make plays. In practice, the defense isn’t allowed to touch the QB, so he has scrambled and made some plays against very soft pressure. That won’t be the case in the game though. Defenders are gonna hit him.
Then he’ll learn he can’t do it in a game that doesn’t matter. That or it works because he playing against second and third string players and he gets killed in the real games. I guess the third option is it works against everybody because he is actually pretty damn quick.
I think it’s likely he’ll run a lot in his rookie year, because a lot of the time, he won’t know what he’s doing, and taking off running is instinctual.
As long as he doesn’t get killed doing it and learns. Scramble now when he can and when he needs to and grow into a QB that throws first and scrambles when necessary.
Totally agree. McCarthy has a strong arm. Give him some plays that he can make use of it. Long developing, multi-read plays need to be few and far between.
He has played ‘real games’ against players as good or better than what he will see Saturday.
He was taken down hard by Dallas Turner in Mich/Ala in last years semi-final.
Anything can happen, even non contact injuries during practice (RIP Teddy’s Knee) so while I agree with reducing chances of being injured I am not worried more than any other time.
#nojinx
Finally reaching the end of the offseason doldrums. Looking forward to some JJ highlights…or even lowlights at this stage.
2 days to real practice football !!!
And hopefully seeing JJ.
