Vikings vs. Falcons
Wow, the Sam Darnold led Minnesota Vikings are 11-2. This has been a fun year, and the fun looks to continue.
After a slow start on both offense and defense, the Vikings were down 7-0. The Vikings woke up on both sides of the ball, Sam Darnold was dialed in and had a career day, and the Vikings defense found ways to get to Kirk Cousins. The game stayed relatively close until the fourth quarter, when the Vikings took over the game via big plays on offense and forced turnovers on defense/special teams, and they put up 21 points in the final quarter. The final score was 42-21.
The Vikings defense picked Kirk Cousins twice, and the special teams forced a fumble on a kickoff return. They allowed a lot of yards, but played a pretty good game and held the Falcons to 21.
After a pathetic first drive, the Vikings offense recovered and was rolling yesterday. Darnold was dialed in, and JJ and Addison had 132 and 133 yards, respectively. The running game was solid, with Jones leading the way and Akers spelling effectively. The offensive line had a tough time developing a pocket for Darnold early in the game, but seemed to do a better job as the game wore on. By the fourth quarter, Darnold was comfortable in the pocket, which allowed him to carve the Falcons defense apart.
I keep saying it, but this is going to be a fun year. SKOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awwww
Down goes Dallas.
So the FBI can find a lone gunmen and track him in Altoona PA, but they can’t figure out about a kid in Butler and how he almost killed Trump, who had secret service protection.
Fascinating.
Well they ‘wanted’ to find this guy.
The other thing? Not so much.
Our who placed a bomb in front of the DNC
Is there a bigger mystery meat than a hot dog?
Spam
Oh yeah, forgot that one.
scrapple is the East Coast equivalent of spam. i refuse to try scrapple. As a kid in Rochester, mom would fry spam and serve it as a sandwich, with cheese. it was good
I actully like a fried spam sandwich. Also like spam and eggs.
We keep a can of spam for emergency or last minute meals.
In the Army I kept a can in my rucksack for when in the field. They normally brought bread out with meals so some around usually to build Spam Samiches.
I recall getting fried spam in the mess hall for breakfast. It was good.
I’ve had spam, tasted pretty good. Looks like a heart stopper when you open can.
Cheap sausages.
Read a recall on Oscar Mayer. I’ve loved a good hot dog at times.
vieanna sausages? The Canned ones. Those are pretty much hot dogs too though I spose.
Those things are nasty.
Out here there is Scrapple.
I have no clue what’s in it.
I think it’s the shit left after making a hot dog.
Dylan Mulvaney…..
I would prefer a hot dog or SPAM over the chemicals in Beyond Meat or any of the engineered fake meat.
MNF. Great matchup. Maybe next week we get Giants/Raiders game.
Or maybe Bares at Vikings.
It was sarcasm.
i just choked on the water i was drinking when i read that Dak has an $89MILLION cap hit next year…….
talk about cap hell
You didn’t choke as hard has whatever numb nuts for the Cowboys OKed that deal. Jerry Jones should fire whatever schmuck did that.
He’s the schmuck and if he didn’t extend him the cap hit would be the same without him on the team because of the last shitty deal he gave Dak
Jerry needs to fire himself.
That’s my point.
Nice to beat Kirk but they outgained us. 127 yards of penalties happen but don’t rely on it.
Yes, the hopium is strong among many but I fear we are a paper tiger.
Yeah, only winning by 21 to a playoff contender is something to be frowned upon, not to mention losing 2 out of 13 games.
I like how they’re able to turn it on when they need it.
Guessing we won’t have the refs when we play the Lions or maybe even the Packers.
We most certainly will not.
we are beating the teams we are supposed to beat.
and we beat some teams we “weren’t supposed to beat”
and we lost to the best team in the NFL by 2
and this is a “rebuilding” year
and and and i also worry we aren’t as good as our record.
I’m really not at the Eeyore level of despair, I gave us a 3-14 record for the year. But there are consistent items of concern. We struggled to put AZ or CHI away. We are consistently losing TOP battle. We are giving up too many sacks. The secondary struggles to cover 3rd and long situations with Flores and his exotic blitzes getting picked up way too often.
I guess since we are making the playoffs I would prefer not to get beaten in the wildcard round. We win that…I would prefer not to get humiliated in Philadelphia.
i get it, i find myself being more down about the negative things than i am up about the positive things.
i am glad to see on a day when the defense was struggling, the offense took over the game.
some things that do concern me is the amount of blitzes we do that get absolutely eaten up by the opposing offensive line/running backs etc…and then when the pressure doesn’t get there, the opposing qb can absolutely pick apart the secondary…
That’s sort of the life for all NFL defenses.
This ^
LOL kfey the eternal optimist
When it makes sense to be haha. Context context context. No I didnt expect them to be playing this well or this season go well which is why its fun. Will they get to the SB, probably not, Im not expecting it but to stumble into an NFCCG on a rebuild year would be hilariously fun. And its very possible.
I guessed 10-11 wins so this is already better than expected. They’re playing with house money and have a HC that is now proving to be a QB whisperer. JJ will be at least as good as Darnold next year and the Vikings will start annually trading backups that were reclamation projects.
Weose the TOP battle because we are a “long strike team”. It basically takes us 6-8 plays to go the length of the field
Yeah, multiple 50 yard TDs will skew the TOP a tad.
This team is way better than the 13-4 Kirko chains team.
Did you think that in 2022? Because thats what a paper tiger is and looks like. This team is the opposite of that.
You keep trying to shame me. If you were confident in a victory before the 4th quarter yesterday I tip my hat to you. Once again our opponent handed us the keys to victory.
If we are leading at any point in the NFCCG feel free to call me a doomer dumbass. I would deserve it. But I’ve watched a few football games and I’m concerned. That is all.
i would call anyone who said they were confident the vikes would win when it was 21-21 a LIAR.
Well then call me a liar. The way they were moving the ball the 2nd half and the derp under center for Atlanta, the win was never in doubt for me or the people I was watching with.
LOL perfect gif
Glad you find that humorous, I guess?
Honestly same…… I didn’t like how ATL drove down easily on the opening drive but after Kirko threw the pick to Metellus a complete calm came over me. Just wasn’t worried about losing when it was 21/21. Darnold was dealing. Addison and Jets were eating the dirty birds up. Even tied up it felt like we were in control.
Thanks for the back up Mjolnir, SKOL
Are you sure it was the play or something you ate?
You just get me……
Iv never called you a dumbass nor do I think I will. Im not shaming you Im trying to get you you to put reason on your doom as it makes zero sense to me. Emotions and logic are not going hand in hand but I guess they rarely do. I wanted to know how you felt about that 2022 team? Were you dooming then? Because I was, and I was right. Im not dooming on this team because of context and stats that back up the eye test of what we see on the field. Its sustainable. And I at no point felt like we were going to lose yesterday.
When you have a shit defense like in 22 every game is an either/way. Remember making Mac Jones, the 3rd stringer from the Jets, and then D. Jones all looking like Dan Morino.
Now we have a defense. Huge difference.
Agreed. And even then, our wins were horse shoe miracles week in and week out. Luck isnt a stat but they had it in spades that season. So, yeah. Idk. Its fine I guess some posters roles have flip flopped in here. Ill be the optimist that gets made fun of lol
So a steel bird? I don’t know what the opposite of a paper tiger is…. haha.
Perhaps a…steel falcon? Ha
I think every team has paper tiger arguments. The Lions, Chiefs, Bills, Eagles have all looked suspect at times and to inferior opponents.
The key will be playoff time. Who is clutch and who is not?
My fear is that our defense gives us a lot of easy yards up until the red zone.
This was very fun for me.
Kirko looked like shit during the meaningful 4th quarter. Sam played well.
In the playoffs, I think the teams that run the ball well and defend the run well, will have the most success. Detroit and Philly are both better at those things than the Vikings are.
Our IOL is still crap, and that will cause issues in January.
Anything can happen, and the hopium is there, but I am not really expecting much in the playoffs. It would be great to get to the Super Bowl and lose to the swifties, but I feel that game is already scheduled with Detroit. Swifties still win.
Yeah, it’s booked for Detroit, I agree.
Vikings wearing winter white on Monday night.
I forgot the Vikes are playing Monday, may be a good weekend to go ice fishing.
Amen, brother.
Do itttt
Those are so damn slick. Shame won’t get to see Pace and Darrisaw in them.
Those are filthy……
A few other thoughts from the game yesterday:
What’s up with our run defense lately? Seemed like we were getting gashed.
Will the Chill looked GREAT in warmups. I’m very surprised he doinked that one attempt. The ball comes off his leg so nicely. Pre-game he looked leaps and bounds better than Koo.
I think it would have been a very different game if we didn’t get that penalty on the FG try and then ended up getting JJ’s first TD.
Our first trip to the red zone yesterday brought another trick play attempt from KOC. The whole crowd around me groaned, and everyone was shouting something along the lines of “Get rid of the trick plays in the red zone!”
Robinson is an elite RB, i’ll give them a little bit of a pass for giving up yards to him.
Yep. Complete back too. Watch the replay on the Metellus pick. Bijan stayed in pass pro and absolutely stonewalled a Van Ginkel blitz – took him off his feet. Kid is impressive.
How about Atlanta playcalling…4th and 7 punt downed at the 10…oh defensive offsides, let’s trot offense out 4th and 2…oh darn didn’t draw offsides delay of game 4th and 7 punt…touchback.
that one confused me too.
Yeah that was hilarious
Their head coach is dumb. He is always watching the jumbotron the whole game. Every time they show him he is looking at it. Probably forgets to pay attention to what he is doing.
If Nailor (I barely know her), could catch a ball, it would be nice to bring back the flea flicker we would run with Moss.
Missing Pace.
It was nice to see Turner step up.
Every time I mention Turner, I think of Porky’s.
It was.
This ^ – always gotta nit pick I guess
Koo sucks and should not be on an NFL team. His career stats are not particularly good, and his line-up and form are terrible to wach.
That trick play where 4 guys on the offense played catch and then they lost 5 yards?
That trick play sucked.
i always wonder if it’s as obvious to the defenders, as it is when you are watching on tv, that a ridiculous trick play is in the works. because we are NEVER open on it, they must read it as quickly as the average joe watching on tv can
And so it begins…
We were in Bismarck Saturday for granddaughter track meet at U Mary. Typical of track meets there were a couple of hours between events so we went “up north” so my wife could check out Sierra and Home stores for gifts. Starting to head back, she wanted to stop for an ice cream treat so I punched that into Groot Maps…looked to see how far down State Street I needed to go, turning left (south) onto State…pulled into the oncoming lane (a dedicated left turn lane for northbound traffic). Wife was looking at the track schedule on her phone, I noticed the car behind me (two left turn lanes) had disappeared, yellow line is on my right, and five lanes of northbound traffic are pointing at me at the next stop light south. Gah. To avoid the humiliation of looking like I was three sheets to the wind at 1 pm I thought about crossing the median but my wife pointed out I would get stuck in the mud, so I just had to sit there pulled off to their left while a bunch of North Dakota drivers stared at me until I could do a U-turn. To their credit, not a single honk or curse.
Pretty soon I’ll have to write my passwords on a piece of paper stuck to my keyboard.
Oh there was definitely cursing, you just couldn’t hear it or see it. I would have been calling you names if I saw you lol
So my Monday morning QB thoughts…
Home field is very nice. We clearly got favorable calls against Atlanta, a phantom offensive line holding call, a phantom defensive line holding call on a FG WTF was that and a phantom DPI. That being said…
boy would it be nice to have home field throughout. I don’t see us getting ahead of DET though. Not only would we have to win out (three division games plus Seattle at CLink or whatever it’s called today where we never win) but DET needs to drop another game. That being said WC1 is clearly our destiny to decide…at the beginning of the year I thought the week 17 and 18 games would be meaningless but now they loom large for the WC1 slot with GB in the mix. Although week 18 both teams may be resting the starters depending on where things lie…
after getting sacked four times in the first half somebody figured out a better protection scheme for Darnold…that person deserves kudos.
After hearing a former NFL player say “halftime adjustments really aren’t a thing”, i can’t help but thing there has to be SOME sort of adjustments that happen. It was fairly obvious in yesterdays game.
I am keeping hope that Detroit’s very depleted defense could lead to them losing one other game besides to the Vikings!
Buffalo and/or 49ers could beat the Lions.
Seattle stinks.
Just call me “oh ye of little faith”. I’d really like that home field throughout. Gonna be a kick in the tush trying to win out on the road.
BTW, if Minny wins wild card round is there a scenario where they get home field for the divisional game?
if seeds 5, 6, and 7 all win in the wildcard round, Minnesota would host the 6 seed and the #1 seed would host #7 in the divisional round.
So yes, there is a scenario, but it’s not likely. 5 seeds beat 4 seeds plenty, but 7 seeds rarely beat 2 seed teams.
Yeah, I get confused if Minnesota finished behind DET but ahead of PHI (2nd best record in NFC) – are we 2 seed?
The top 4 seeds go to the division winners no matter what. There is no re-seeding.
I have always hated this. Yes if you win your division you should be in the playoffs. But, you should not get a home game, just because you suck less than the other 3 teams in your division.
Howdy Pete!
I hope all is well.
Hi Brad!
Well enough that I’m not complaining. Busy, but that’s good. 🙂
I might have a question or two for you at some point. Kiddo and I are trying to launch a podcast on here.
Murphy is playing himself into a big payday next year…
i wonder if we are kicking ourselves for not re-signing him before the season (i don’t blame them, he has never been this good)
but i have a feeling we won’t be paying him what he could get elsewhere
If that throw was accurate, it would have been a TD and not an INT. Great one-handed grab though.
They have a ton of cap space for 2025, it’s a good year to sign some guys.
They should be able to front load the contracts, the future is bright, gotta wear shades.
Yes, we currently sit at $78mill in cap space for 2025
Daniel Penny found not guilty.
Never should have even been charged in the first place.
Now, he will be sued for cash.
And BLM is threatening to burn NYC. The party of rule of law.
But it’s a mostly peaceful burning, so that’s fine.
And now they are claiming the deceased was “only” on the subway to beg for food. What a crock.
Thank you! Poor guy. Even the witnesses were thanking him.
Great news.
Especially since learning that Trump cannot pardon him him on State Charges only Federal ones.
You’re right, the guy should’ve never been charged. The district attorney should be charged & sued.
The dead crack head’s dad is already suing Penny.
How many shekels do you suppose Saint George’s family received?
About 27 million.
i bought all my kids Jefferson jersey’s for christmas, but let them open them on Saturday night so they could wear them for the rest of the season….
they had them laid out on their beds sunday morning so when we got home from church they could run up and throw them on and get the game on..
i love that they are at an age where they are into the vikings and watch almost the entire game now. My sons got distracted and were off doing different things throughout the game but my daughter was by my side the whole game, speaking good things into existence when i was being down.
You don’t let them wear them to church?
That’s what I was thinking.
We have football jerseys everywhere at our church.
Freeze must be at some old fuddy duddy church where you have to be dressed up.
Our old priest told people to wear jerseys to church on Sunday. He also stood outside to greet everybody wearing a cheese head.
Yeah, everybody has flaws.
Except for me, I’m flawless
i will say, on any given sunday, i am probably in the minority if i do not wear a tie.
To each his own.
Definitely not my style.
I like dressing up for church. Of course, I’m an old fuddy duddy. Just about everyone at least dresses nice on Sunday morning, even the youth. It is nice to see a young man in a suit and tie.
I have a cool hotdog costume.
Does it come with a tie?
nahh, i want to instill a reverence when it comes to church with my kids.
So they are always dressed nice.
And no, we don’t teach or believe you are a better christian if you dress up. It’s just my families preference
Yeah, good call. With a lot of people the NFL and its games/teams are like a god, so it can take focus off of the one, true.
Truth spoken.
They don’t call it Sundays best for nothing
I like it.
That makes me think of the year AD got suspended for beating his kid and that season my sister bought all our nieces and nephews Peterson jerseys for Christmas, she’s funny
If she did that on purpose, I love her sense of humor.
Maybe she is an angel.
Sam has been awesome. I even altered my Favre Vikings jersey for the game yesterday with some athletic tape to be #14 and “Favrnold” on the back. Love the way he’s playing. His scrambling TD throw was a beauty.
That said, can we stop jumping to “extend him now!” talk when he has a good stretch? I think while Sam has been good, it’s clear that KOC is the key here. JJ Mac will be good (and much cheaper). There will maybe be a bit of regression from this year to next, but let’s not act like Sam is a world beater yet. Remember his rough stretch. Lots of games left. Only extend if we go to the Bowl.
I’m not sure anybody here has said extend him now.
Yeah it’s mostly on other sites and articles.
Just wish people would pump the brakes. I hope Kwesi does.
I’d be fine doing another $15 million per year contract with Darnold.
But he wouldn’t be. He can probably get $25 million+ somewhere else.
He’s going to get at least 35. More power to him and I wish him luck. If KOC can reclaim Darnold, they’ll be fine with JJ and also renovate Jones as the backup so they can trade him away.
Yep.
I’d be surprised if he gets $35 million.
But if Darnold wants the money over playing success, the Vikings are good with what they have.
I would guess that $28 million range or so.
Makes me wonder if Sam would do something team friendly that also benefits him greatly. Like 10-15 mil fully guaranteed, with a 2 mil bonus for each game where he plays more than 1/2 the offense snaps. Could work for both sides, and allow the team to keep him until JJ is ready, while still getting trade value for him eventually.
Next years problems…..
Yep.
Just depends on what Darnold wants.
But if he is hearing $25 million, he’s gone. And he should absolutely cash in.
Very unlikely. This may be his only opportunity to get paid and I wouldn’t blame him. Maybe the Vikings franchise tag him, make sure JJ is ready in the spring and trade him.
No.
$40 million.
Hell no.
You forgot the part where they trade him and get picks. Trade him before the draft and you recoup those picks that KAM promised he’d get back. They likely won’t get any comp picks since they have a bunch of cap space. Might as well get something now.
It’s the holiday season, not the silly season.
He did say he wants to play for the Vikings, but we’ve all heard that before.
The agents must hand the players a script. At the very top, it says “publicly statewr a desire to stick with current team”
I think Sam has more said that he is happy to be here and there is no place he’d rather be, right now.
He’s in a perfect situation. Not many people expected this. I’m more optimistic than most people, and not even I expected a season this successful.
Agree, if KOC can get this out of darnold he can do it with someone else
My take.
I enjoy talking about the “what if’s” or “what should we do’s” in regards to the team..
i don’t mind people being excited for Darnold. I also don’t mind people saying NOPE, it’s JJ’s team next year.
I think it just brings more fun chatter during the season.
It’s better than talking about the mock drafts when the season ends IMO
Gut check time for fans and the coaches if they run with JJ as the de facto starter in 2025, give him all the first team snaps in practice.
also the Mets are IDIOTS
Yeah, that contract is insane
That was market cost to beat out the Yanks for him.
Still dumb.
to pay someone, who isn’t even the best at one single thing, THAT much money, it’s insane.
This is what I don’t like about MLB. There is no way any small market team should be able to compete with the larger market teams. That contract is almost as much as the entire Twins lineup. Granted the Pohlads are cheap and don’t want to spend any money but, there is no way the Twins could pull off that type of contract.
to be fair, i would have been PISSED if the Twins paid that for him.
@really wish the Vikings had re-signed him @
i would imagine it’s hard for a team to win when their QB not only gives the ball to the other team 8 times in 4 games, but also doesn’t throw a TD….
Or eats up their cap space. Man, 3 teams in a row have let him down huh?
Falcons defense and Ray Ray’s fumble were why the Falcons lost yesterday, not Kirk. He made some nice throws. They ran for TDs. Momentum in the building changed big time when the Vikings answered with a TD to go 28-21 and then got the fumble.
That said, watching Kirk and Penix warm up yesterday……….Penix’s arm was money. Laser throws, and Kirk’s were not.
Kirko sucks
The end.
Yeah, seems like our old friend Kirk is having a rough time, I noticed during the game they kept planning the camera over to the rookie QB as I to say it’s time to move on from Kirk
when it was 21-21 after they got the 2 point conversion, i was like NO WE CAN NOT LOSE TO KIRK
i’m glad the vikes felt the exact same way haha
@not his fault.@
Never is and never will be
I thought he looked a little more yippy after Turner rocked him after that first near sack.
I was a fan of that play.
I mentally filed that one away and compared Kirk’s play before and after…his throws were not as on target after that.
Aside from the Bills getting rocked yesterday was almost perfect when it comes to Football.
Yep.
Rams at SF on Thu, so we could clinch without playing a down this week.
Im not worried about clinching a play off spot, I really want that one seed. But, it wont matter if Buffalo doesnt get their shit figured out against the kitties.
I don’t know about the bye.
Vikings lost and looked completely different after the bye.
Eh, nothing really tangible to that besides past bad vibes, which I dont have currently. They need to snag a home play off game. Thats still in their power to do, so have to try.
Maybe we can take the NFC North and get second place to the Eagles. We all know how well that turned out the last time.
Payback time….
Ha, nice! Have you seen his documentary on Netflix? I thought it was pretty interesting.
No but iv heard some of things from it, he’s a pretty messed up human being but who isnt when they have that much money?
thoughts from yesterdays games:
KOC must legitimately be a QB whisperer because Sam darnold sucked completely before this year
the Vikings are running the ball better than they have at any point during KOC’s tenure, even without darrisaw
the defense is still giving up too many yards and big plays
That was an interception by griffin on the bs simultaneous catch call
kirk played like a complete turd in his return to Minnesota
the bears suck, but I remember people saying before the season they were a contender for the division, lol
Josh Allen is on another level, but please tell me more about how overrated he is, he just became the first player to scored 6 TDs in a game with 3 passes and 3 rushing, insane
FTP lost to Detroit, division may well come down to the last week of the season
so if we win out, and Det loses to Bills and the Eagles win out, who gets #1 seed, Us or Philly?
Yes?
According to this playoff predictor the Vikings would get the one seed if Minnesota and Philly both win out and Detroit loses to Buffalo next week.
https://www.profootballnetwork.com/nfl-playoff-predictor
cool!!!!!
It would probably get down to strength of victory tie breaker.
For sure. He had two hands and the WR only had one when Griffin’s knee was down. KOC was not happy about it. The whole Vikings sideline was pointing at the screen.
I will concede i thought the bears would be better than the Vikings this year.
Also, Josh Allen had a heck of a game and THEY STILL LOST. so he sucks.
He’s been unreal all year, their defense really sucks
i was obviously being sarcastic….
I don’t believe you!
Me either
Okay now I believe you
I don’t really care for Jimmy Fallon, but he sucks way less then Jimmy Kimmel
QB WINZ! Can’t credit him with any plays because he lost, therefore he sucks. That’s how some here look at it.
I didn’t think he did. He was hitting long plays. That INT to Metellus was bad, but the Falcons were in it until the 4th. The fumble changed everything. Kirk didn’t have any TDs because the RBs ran it in easy, so he didn’t have to throw it in.
oh be careful disagreeing about kirk on here….you brave brave soul…
Its not even disagreeing, its ignoring reality.
It’s not ignoring reality. He helped bring the Falcons right back and tie it up at 21-21.
He’s not great, but yesterday’s game was not all found in Kirk’s bad stats.
I’m glad we moved on from him, but to blame the game on Kirk isn’t correct.
I too am glad we glad moved on from Kirk.
I see a lot of similarities between Trump Derangement syndrome and Kirk Derangement syndrome.
No such thing as Kirk Derangement, only Kirk Defense Syndrome.
I wouldn’t blame that loss on Kirk, their defense was terrible, but he did make some plays that contributed with the picks and missing some other throws, also Pitts sucks, he couldn’t catch an STD from a two dollar hooker.
Pitts is awful…Stone hands.
Yeah, makes me think of this
https://tenor.com/view/necessary-roughness-coach-rig-dont-gif-24011680
How about this, they didnt lose because of him but they definitely didnt have a chance to win because of him. Is one more worse than the other or is it two sides of the same coin?
Nah, their defense literally falling down or just plain losing sight of our receivers (several poor passes that could have been picked if Mike Hughes or others were halfway decent) is the main reason the Falcons lost. They don’t have one or two of those blown coverages/underthrown balls that should have been picked, and we are having a different conversation today.
Also, the Falcons had a TON of yards and dominated the Time of Possession in the first half. If there’s one thing to knock Kirk on it’s the first half FGs.
And thats the mindset thats kept the Vikes buried from actually contending the past half a decade. Failing to admit whats right in front of you. Glad the front office woke up last spring. No need to defend him anymore.
Yep.
Not Kirks fault. Ever.
89 passer rating for the year is not his fault.
Lol. I’m not even a Kirk defender. I think it’s KDS just like TDS to jump right to it being his fault no matter what.
He left some things on the field for sure, but being there I would not say Kirk was the reason they lost.
But whatever, doesn’t sound like you’re willing to listen to reason.
Correct, the time to debate was over in 2020 and yet it persists. I am well within reason. The Kirk Defense Syndrome is not with in reason. He’s probably not the reason they lost against the Chargers too huh? You have to place a large chunk of the blame on him. He’s the highest paid player on the team. You dont have to place all, but most. Until you do that, you are dancing around the issue. But, ill leave it at that. Vikes Victory Monday baby!
I think this is where we’re talking past each other. I’m not defending his season or Kirk the player in general, just that he wasn’t the main one at fault yesterday.
I told my family that it’s not a coincidence that Kirk, a career .500 QB, has his current team at .500 (before the game yesterday).
Kirk was not great yesterday. The loss was not all Kirk’s fault. Both can be true. Hopefully that clears it up. Sorry for the sharp statement above.
Skol on Victory Monday indeed!
Yes, if they get the slightest inkling that you are defending Kirk, you will be drawn and quartered immediately.
I agree – Their extreme defensive ineptitude is the reason they lost, primarily. Kirk could have played better, for sure, but he did enough to keep them in the game and made some clutch 3rd downs. But not lighting up the stat sheet.
He threw two pick and had no tds, not sure if the routes were bad though, looked like maybe the first one London didn’t run what he was supposed to
”first player to score 6 TDs in a game’
Didn’t Joe Kapp get 6 on the way to scoring 7 TDs??
“Joe Kapp has the most passing touchdowns for the Vikings in a game, with 7 touchdowns against the Baltimore Colts on September 28, 1969.”
First with 3 passing and 3 rushing, also I love kapp forever for this

Another QB scored three and three in the fifties…Allen is overrated.
Game was awesome yesterday! Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. All the plans were perfect.
Exciting game and even a thumping in the 4th. Loved it. Kid loved it. We got on the jumbotron twice, including a 4th quarter skol chant. Lifelong memories made yesterday.
this is awesome. so glad it was a great experience for you!
(it won’t let me attach any more photos)
Just add 1 pic to each comment and post a bunch.
Trying, but the site isn’t doing it.
That is awesome!
What did you end up doing pre and post game?
Picked a good one to see, for sure.
The two stinkers I saw there, the SKOL chant prior to kickoff was the highlight of both.
Here we go. Working now.
Note for those who will go to games in the future: yellow signs are super noticeable! Our family could see us in the corner of the TV screen the whole game whenever the angle was shown.
That’s awesome.
Sounds great, you picked a good game to attend.
Your kid is the camera man? That’s awesome
That would be awesome. Seems like a good gig.
I think yesterdays Qb showings was less about what we let go with kirk cousins and more about what we might have in Sam Darnold….
In his…what…last 6 games…more about him getting more and more comfortable in the scheme and growing in the scheme?
Thinking about how the season has gone for Darnold. He started hot, then had some real stinkers, but then has come back and really put together a solid 6 or 7 games. Remembering the passtronaut, he started hot then went Kaput. Well while i thought Darnold was going Kaput, perhaps he was just getting more and more comfortable with things because he is now making the Vikings really re-think what they had for their 2025 plans…
perhaps we can somehow convince him to sign a 2 year 60mill fully guaranteed contract. I doubt he would take a 2 year, but he is only 27. Prove that you are who you look like you are. I would take him for 2 more years for $30 mill a year. If he proves this was a fluke year, so be it..
I just think he’d be looking for a 4 year deal and i’m sure there might be a team or two willing to try that.
Either way, i’m glad we don’t have to decide that and it’s up to the Vikings and Darnold.
I am impressed with Sam for the reasons you mention. He did not turn into a pumpkin (yet).
I still think he holds on to the ball too long, but that could either be route design or good defense. I wish he would throw the ball away more often versus taking too many sacks. IOL is still shit. That will matter and needs to be addressed again next season.
I trust the GM/Coach with next year. Maybe Jones is the backup after Darnold gets paid big by someone else. Maybe Darnold stays on a team-friendly deal with lots of escalation clauses that would allow the team to trade him once JJ is for sure ready, yet still guarantee a decent payday for Sam. Not sure.
The team has exceeded expectations for me this season. I really thought 8-10 wins, and here they are. Fun times.
i just have a hard time thinking JJ would have the same decision making skills as Darnold…
I think that td throw to Jets that darnold scrambled and got out of a sure sack, JJ would have probably continued to run it vs look for a wide open guy, idk, maybe i’m wrong…
I don’t think this is a bad problem to have though.
Also, i LOVE that the Lions are having the best year they have ever had, and we are ONE game behind them and it’s a “rebuild” year for us.

I trust the vikes to make the right decision.
If that means stick with the plan ad JJ, it’s going to be exciting to have a fast Qb.
When’s the last time we could say that?
1975?
Guy never throws the ball away! Will take a sack for loss of 12 after holding the ball for 7 seconds. Gotta have better internal clock.
Kirk sucked ass and Sam was great, the Vikings have JJ waiting to take over so no need to overpay darnold, it’s more about KOC being able to coach the QB position than anything else, darnold will probably suck at his next stop because he’ll sign with some poverty franchise like Tennessee, that has no skill position players and an ass oline
My thoughts on the Sam Darnold/Vikings progression this year; The first 5 games, no one knew what to expect from Sam. He had not started in 1 1/2 years, and was on another new team.
He started the year in Sam Darnold fashion, with everyone waiting for the shoe to drop. Once there was film on the Vikings with Sam, defenses were able to start devising a plan to stop him. The Lions and Rams were fairly successful in stopping the Vikings Offense.
We then got to face some bad teams, and Sam was getting more comfortable in the new offense. KOC starts throwing more at him as far as plays go. And we are giving teams new looks on offense.
Sam puts it all together in time to face Kirko Chainz, and turn him back into Kurt Cousins.
Isn’t Victory Monday sweet?
As I watched some games yesterday, I continue to come to the conclusion that I hate pass interference, illegal contact and defensive holding penalties. They are simply too damaging to the defense, especially when not really warranted. Yet, they are also necessary because sometimes they are warranted.
I think the only way to solve it is to let AI ref the game. It is the only way to get it consistent. Then you can also dial in the amount of contact allowed.
For example, you could say to AI, “Allow 100 percent contact at line of scrimmage out to five yards, 50 percent contact from 5-10 yards, 25 percent contact between that and the endzone and then 50 percent contact again in the endzone.”
You could dial in how much hand-fighting, jersey-tugging, as well.
I’m just spit-balling numbers, but you get the point. AI is the only way to call it consistently and evenly throughout the game across the field. I saw so many PI calls yesterday where it legit seemed like hoping for PI was the play.
I think AI could solve it. Then you could even have a graph showing why AI called the play as it did.
Granted, Vegas would still likely be overseeing said AI, but still…
Who is this Al you speak of?
I like your idea, but I feel AI is not yet ready for that prime time application. For example, how would AI adjust to give more calls to the Packers in each game? what about uniform color. In the snow at Lambeau could AI “see” the green in order to not call a PI? How would AI adjust to spot the ball a little ahead of the chains when the field is muddied and snow covered to gift the Packers a first down.
Exactly.
AI would be pre-programmed.
Just like google searches and other tech censors.
Don’t forget voting machines!
the thing with Ai is that there are time where there is contact beyond 5 yards and it’s incidental and that’s obvious to a human but not a humaNOID….
i disagree with your take. first Ai referees, then what? give Ai our nuclear codes??
have you never seen the Terminator?!??!
Or, save just hear me out, the refs could do the same?
I would like to see more consistency on what and when possession takes place on a catch. The interception in the end zone would have been ruled incomplete if he would have been hit and lost the ball, when his foot stepped on the goal line. I was screaming at the TV for Byron to run as far as he could out of the end zone. I had a feeling it wouldn’t be a touchback, and we were going to get the ball on the 1 or 2 yard line. In the end it did not matter, but it could have been really bad.
Or, the coaches need to teach these guys the game. They didn’t show a great angle, but it looked like he had a lot of room to run so why didn’t he?
I, like you, don’t like those scenarios. You, as the defender, are running full out towards your own end zone, snag an INT, look down and you are in the end zone. Are there any obvious signs that you established control of the ball in the field of play? Can the line judges convene with the eye in the sky and make a determination? Hell no. So you either have to decide to kneel and bring the ball to the 20 (you hope) or decide if you have a chance of making it to the 20 or beyond. In this case had Byron known the deal in advance he would have run out of the EZ.
Yeah, that was stupidity on his part, especially after the same sort of thing happening to him or Bynum a few weeks ago.
Glad they won. Losing to Kirk would have been gross.
White Chicks is a sneaky funny movie. Did not expect it to be much of anything when I first watched it, but it was pretty darn amusing. Terry Crews is great in it.
Happy Victory Monday Skolios
Vikings can clinch the playoffs on Thursday if the 49ers beat the Rams.
The Falcons got snookered !
Buffalo failed us yesterday.
Their defense really sucks
They sure did.
But maybe they help this upcoming weekend with a victory at Detroit.
Carolina failed us also, Bryce threw a perfect pass and the receiver failed to catch it. They would’ve been in great position to win if the receiver makes that catch. An eagles loss would’ve been nice.
