In case you’ve been living under a rock, tonight’s game has been relocated to Arizona due to the wildfires in California, from Vikings.com. I love Phoenix, I sure wish I could’ve had an opportunity to fly down there & see the game, but it just wasn’t do-able. Bummer.

I had multiple teeth pulled from my lower jaw last week, as I had lots of teeth loosening due to bone decay. I had a partial installed, and it looks, and feels great. Right now, I still have stitches in my mouth, and a lot of soreness, so can’t chew anything yet. My wife just came in and asked me if I wanted wings for the game tonight.

I was at the Vikes/LA phans in LA. It was about at 85 to 15 split in fans. As I recall they were able to get the decible thingy up to the low 100s. The Vikings stadium is louder we can get it to the 108 to 112 range.

I honestly watch the games with the sound off. I know enough about football to see, understand, and interpret a play on my own. Pre-snap I’m looking at safety alignments, and the linebackers, on defense, and the formation and personnel groups on offense. Looking for personnel groupings, and shifts and how the defense reacts. I watch the QB play probably much differently than a typical fan.
Try not to be too humble.
I just know football DE. I played QB in college, and I understand concepts, play design, and schemes. Not trying to prove I’m the smartest man in the room. Just saying I know what’s going on, on the field, when it’s happening.

When the TV coverage only shows the QB and lineman, and the QB drops back, how do you know what the DBs and safety’s are doing in the defensive backfield to read what’s going on when they are never in TV the picture?
The TV live coverage definitely limits the “view” of the field at times, but for the most part I can see enough to know the looks pre-snap. I also like watching the all 22 after the game, because of course, you get a better picture. I will say, that I see things defensively at times that I wouldn’t have expected pre-snap. Defenses in the NFL are really good at forcing offenses to go where they want them to go at times, limiting a QB’s options, forcing throws to specific areas of the field, etc.
I watch with the sound off but don’t do any of the rest of that.
I just think the ‘talking points’ of the announcers are dumb and they piss me off.

We had 3 units in a building we used to own. It was a lot of work. We replaced the floor in one of the units, just to find out after we had sold the building that the next renters had destroyed it within a year.
In a tale too long to tell here, we had major difficulties finding a place to rent when I started med school in Grand Forks, because we had a dog. People even encouraged us to give the dog away. We ended up buying a mobile home.
We talked about buying a rental property for the express purpose of renting to people with pets after that difficult experience, but having seen enough pics of the disasters that renters leave when they have pets (and often when they don’t have pets) that’s a big no thanks.
Yep, we would get left with apartments full of garbage and they looked like they were never cleaned the whole time the people lived there.
15 yrs ago or so, renters who were college kids (< 1 mile from MT Tech) left a complete disaster of beer cans and pizza boxes. They were graduating seniors. Anyhow he had his senior thesis on a CD rom and left it. I found it after my wife and I spent a total of 32 hrs cleaning. Got a call from him, he couldn’t graduate without the thesis. Told him he should of made a copy AND I will give it to you for $1000 cleaning fee.

He paid, it was months of work and he graduated with a petroleum eng degree, was starting a job in TX in a couple weeks.
Young men as a general rule are clueless and/or idiots. I can see something like that happening. However, my wife is very thrifty and wanted the security deposit back, so any time we moved my oldest son (who was/is like that), she brought cleaning supplies along and cleaned the apartment. When we helped my second son and his wife move this past fall, we all pitched in and cleaned the rental that they moved out of. It was probably cleaner when they left than when they moved in. What I don’t get is grown adults treating their living space like a garbage can and having no concept of taking care of things. It is a childish concept to walk away and leave all of your problems for someone else to take care of.
Yes, it is childish, but so pervasive in today’s society. Another irritating example is the damn grocery charts all over the parking lot. COME ON!
First world problems. It angers me when, say, you receive a $1000 dividend from John Deere stock (dividends taxed as ordinary income), invest it in another blue chip say Home Depot, HD stock doubles, sell it and you pay 20% capital gains tax. Meanwhile half the population effectively pays no income tax.
How about the government collecting sales tax on cars over and over and over again. Every time the asset is sold, they want their cut.

Sales tax should only apply on the first time an item is sold. Not that I have a huge dog in that fight since we don’t have a sales tax.
I have permanent plates now on three of my vehicles, so at least I don’t have that revolving door expense of vehicle registration year after year (as you know, much more expensive to register a vehicle in Montana than neighboring states). Of course you have to pay effectively three years’ worth of registration to get the permanent plate, so the vehicle better last! Buy Lexus!
Just paid for my pickup and got the bill for my wife’s rig. My pickup is 8 years old now though so it was like $180 bucks and the other rig is like $130.
I found a hack though. I just didn’t renew my tags on my pickup for like 2 1/2 years.

First world problem indeed.
Darnold (like Baker Mayfield) is predominantly a first read QB. He can certainly make reads and progressions, but the more that first read is taken away, the more uncomfortable he is. Having top level receivers who can win on their routes, has helped him a lot. He has a very good arm, and he CAN get the job done. I want to see those mid range crossing routes early, because I think those are the routes the Rams will struggle to defend well. Give Sam a little protection, and run those crossers, and he’ll start clicking.
I have seen lots of guys like Kurt Warner break down Sam’s tape and show the exact opposite and that he has actually been going through his reads very well. I think the scheme makes it look a lot like one reads (did to Kirko too), because the motions they use allow the QB to go through 1 or 2 reads a lot of times before the ball is even snapped. Jets alluded to that some in an interview a week or two ago. He said with the scheme they basically know where the ball is going and where everybody will be on most snaps before the ball is snapped.
I still think the biggest issue with the offense is the interior O line, and the fact that the plays are either slow-developing or Sam just holds on to the ball too much.
Maybe all of the above?
I do think that’s all in play Surly. When a QB is making decisions, and thinking on a play, vice seeing it and throwing it, then his play is gonna be a little slower. Over time of course, it gets smoother, but you only need a receiver to make an unexpected adjustment once, and the confidence goes down. Also, it’s not just JJ doing this. It’s all the receivers, so we’ve seen in games where two receivers run to the same place on the field after adjusting to the defense.

As a long suffering Redskins (and Vikings) fan, I have to say I’ve been thrilled with this season. Both teams have definitely been awesome to watch. I think the Lions are too big an ask though and their season ends this coming weekend. They have overachieved, and been a great watch, but no way the win in Detroit (unfortunately).
Any given Sunday. I doubt it happens, but it would be sweet. Lions come out rusty from the week off and arrogant. Daniels could rip em. He’s looking pretty good. I wanted the Vikings to somehow get him and if not him JJ was my second choice.
I like Daniels, Nix, May, then JJ.
So far, Daniels and Nix both look like solid QB;s. Looking forward to seeing JJ start next season.

My wife said something yesterday about how are the Vikings going to fail this year and how it’s been too much. I told her to stop and reminded her she’s only been a fan for less than 15 years. She got to miss Gary Andersen and Favre.

KOC did a great job with Sam, and Flo with the defense, and we DID win 14 games, but it will feel kinda devalued if we can’t survive the Wild Card round. OTOH, we don’t seem to match up particularly well with the Rams.
Still, we were in that game pretty much until the end when we played them in the regular season. I just hope officiating will be more balanced this time, we should have a fair shot then…

In ’91 while stationed in Stuttgart, I missed morning formation to finish watching the Twins win game 7 for their WS victory. My NCOIC told me that was not a good enough reason.
I told him to do whatever he thought he needed to do but it was worth it to me to see it.
Never heard another thing about it.
