NFL Discussion & Random Thoughts
The NFL legal tampering period opens today at 11 am central time, when it becomes officially legal for teams to flirt with pending free agents from other teams. No signings can actually happen until Wednesday at 3 pm central. The NFL news & rumor mill ramped up yesterday, and there are signings, trades, and deals being made and whispers about upcoming moves all over the league.
The Vikings got a deal done with one of their own free agents, as they re-signed Aaron Jones, which basically shored up their running back position for the 2025 season. Since they’re shelling out $10 million a year for Jones, I do hope that KOC and Co. plan to run the ball more. I feel that they need to be more balanced on offense so that defenses can’t just focus on shutting down our passing game.
I’ve been hearing chatter from Vikings fans that the Vikings need to pursue pending free agent Drew Dalman if Dalman is released by the Falcons. I wouldn’t do that if I were the GM. When you look at Dalman’s body of work, he isn’t much different than Bradbury. Dalman is a great run blocker, but not much of a pass blocker, plus he’s going to want more money than Bradbury wants.
I also saw this rumor about our old pal, Sam Darnold. I wish him the best of luck wherever he goes, & I’ll always be thankful to him for making the 2024 season much more exciting than anyone expected, regardless of how it ended.
Vikings News
The Vikings have reached a deal with Aaron Jones to keep the running back in Minnesota, per Vikings.com. NFL.com reported that it’s a two-year deal worth $20 million. If they’re gonna pay him that much, I hope we run the ball more & let him earn it.
NFL News
It’s rumored that the Seahawks are trading D.K. Metcalf to the Steelers, where Metcalf will sign a 5-year $150 million extension, according to Yahoo Sports.
From NBC Sports, Josh Allen is signing an extension with the Bills that will make him the highest paid player in the league with a per-year average around $60 million.
Davante Adams is signing a two-year $46 million contract with the Rams, per NFL.com.
I wanted to play this on the media selection, but the greedy SOBs at the NFL won’t allow it to be embedded because they might miss out on a couple of pennies. Anyway, dude over at That’sGoodSports looks at how the NFL is no longer a passing league, at least not like it was a few years ago. Enjoy!

Here’s a cool video highlighting the fact that we don’t know as much as we think we know. Enjoy!

Two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jonathan Allen has reached an agreement with the Vikings on a three-year, $60 million contract.
Vikes resign Murphy. 3 years, $66M
nice
A little pricey but overall a good thing.
And i said he was gone. Goes to show what the hell i know.
Vikings signing C Ryan Kelly from the Colts!!
2 years $18 million.
See ya buttbury.
Love it!
Now we need Fries with that !!!
We paid less than the Bears and we got a better center
I agree with that assessment
This makes me happy
Solid pickup fo sure
Wonder what they can get in a trade for Bradbury. I know he’s hated here, but I think people around the league like him.
Iโd take a 7thโฆโฆ
Rick? Is that you?
8th
2 used donuts and a napkin
What are ‘used donuts’?
What do you ‘use’ your donuts for??
On 2nd thought I don’t want to know.
No Kink Shaming though.
He actually is a decent run blocker, but his pass protection skills are abysmal. Big fellas run right over him.
I guess we signed some scrub DB from the Browns? Bubba Bolden…neat
So far we have several departures:
Too many FA’s. Figured. Game ain’t over yet, will see.
i do feel a wave of relief that we didn’t spend that money on Darnold. So much relief.
I think you are feeling the same I felt this time a year ago when I know the boat anchor was moving on to Atlanta. It was euphoric.
Darnold didnโt get nearly as much as the experts were saying.
โTag him for $41 millionโ
Amen
I wish they would hand out the compensatory picks.
@ weโll finally get something positive from Cousins@
Vikings should get an extra first rounder for enduring his contract and cringe for half a decade.
Huh, guess some Vikings fans wouldn’t like another first rounder. Strange hill to die on but okay.
still a lot of very good players out there available.
I’m in my prime.
i’d sign you.
Source: Former Vikings DE Patrick Jones ll reached agreement on a 2-year deal worth up to $20 million with the Carolina Panthers.
Well, too bad we couldn’t keep him.
So far, I am very happy with the results of the “legal tampering” or whatever they call it.
Sam got paid, JJ is our starter, signed a couple of big needs.
Should be a fun time the next few days/weeks as the master plan comes into focus.
The Bears have beefed up their O-Line and D-Line, today. We had better do the same.
Now the FTP signed a Guard…
“The Green Bay Packers are signing guard Aaron Banks, a source told ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.
After spending his rookie season in a reserve role, Banks became a dependable starter for the San Francisco 49ers over the past three seasons, working exclusively at left guard.”
Massive over pay for an average Guard.
Vikings have been overpaying interior linemen for years
I wouldnt say that, they just havent been moving on from them when they should have and finding their replacements.
Can’t say I’ve heard of this guy.
Eagles CB Isiah Rogers signs with the Vikings.
I like it.
Now, go get two guards
Get Fries dam it !!!!!
These gifs will be awesome if he is a Viking
i am happy with anyone from that eagles defense
Good point
Isiah Rogers was CB3 and I hope he is that for us, too.
Vikings in the mix for S Javon Holland from Miami.
Dead link
I can’t get this site to post the Twitter picture.
The link works for me though.
I can’t open it, what does it say?
Vikings in the mix for Miami S Javon Holland.
.Spoiler Packers Suck
That, and the
Bynum got 4 years, $60M. I’m worried what Holland could end up costing.
There has been a big cyber-attack on X (Twitter) today. It must be affecting the links.
I blame Ponder
Twitter getting DOGEd.
Well, Flores probably knows if he can play.
Fries update…
I’m thinking we are saving our money for Fries and J Allen…
maybe ward if we have some left over.
A guy I follow on X is a Seahawks fan and has been beating the get-rid-of-Geno drum for a long time.
I can’t wait to hear what he says about Sam.
Poor Kirko.
Stuck retiring a falcon in Atlanta….
It is JJ time!
Maybe Jones as back-up?
That would seem the most logical.
Looks like Fields to the Jets (poor Jets) and Rodgers to the Steelers….
Poor Fields.
Automatic dumpster fire….
yep, the final nail in the coffin of his career
Darnold to the Jets….didn’t see that coming.
Bad info, looks like seahawks.
Rumors and facts are crashing into each other today in NFL.
Neither did Darnold.
Or the Jets
Sam to the Seachikins for $100.5million over 3 years. Welcome to the starting position JJ!!
Happy for Sam
Happier for me, that I finally get to see the Vikings with a rookie contract at QB, try to build a team.
Has not happened since 2014, and they failed that time.
RIP Teddy’s knee.
I still say they wouldโve been better off if they wouldโve stuck to the plan.
Back in 2017, I mean.
I agree. Keenum/Teddy battle for the starting job vs Kirko, and the team could have been in contention at least.
Bynum signing with Colts?
Yes.
Revamped secondary is coming.
With Blackmon coming back, one more CB signing and they’re good.
So we lose our choreographer for celebrations
I prefer players like Harrison Smith. The quiet deadly type.
Same.
So you’re saying a good safety is kinda like a good fart?
The Indianapolis Colts are expected to sign safety Camryn Bynum once free agency opens Wednesday. — Dan Graziano, national NFL reporter
No more Beezy
Justin Fields reached agreement on a two-year, $40 million deal that includes $30 million guaranteed with the New York Jets. — Adam Schefter, NFL insider
About guarantees Rodgers to the Steelers then. Russel Wilson come on down?
Indy is still a wild card and the Giants are short a QB too.
Giants deff drafting but will deff be looking for a place holder.
TE Johnny Mundt to the Jags.
Quarterback Nick Mullens agrees to a two-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, a league source confirms. He was in Minnesota with current Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski. — Michael DiRocco, Jaguars reporter
I wonder if the Vikes have an offer in front of Jones (Daniel)
I hope so.
Would be an excellent QB2.
I thought you’d be pulling for Wentz.
@AdamSchefter
ESPN sources: Former Vikings QB Sam Darnold reached agreement today on a three-year, $110.5 million contract including $55 million guaranteed with the Seattle Seahakws. Seattle has its successor to Geno Smith.
@WillRagatz
There it is. Sam Darnold to Seattle for nearly $37 million per year (and $55 million guaranteed). What a year it was in Minnesota for Darnold in 2024, and now he turns it into a huge payday.
Good for Sam!
Good for Darnold, curious to see what he can do next season. Got his big payday, at least.
Let’s go Jones. Do not make Rodgers end up in purple.

good for sam. happy for him. glad the vikings are on the path they planned since they drafted JJ
Wow. $100 million raise!
Well done, Sammy!
Read their line was worse than ours. Metcalf gone along with other talent. Betting Sam has his work cut out.
$37 million for one year is big money, but only $58 million guaranteed doesn’t sound franchise breaking like Deshaun Watson’s horrible deal.
DT Milton Williams now reportedly signing with the patriots (not the panthers) for 4 years, $104M
From Eagles site breakdown of their secondary.
93% of Eagles fans voted that they wanted him to stay.
I wonder if he can help me out with some prop bets.
Just put all you money on JJ McCarthy being Super Bowl MVP. Easiest money you’ll ever make.
They would become a pretty good team with him
DK, Pickens and Rodgers on the same team? I know where Hard Knocks should be.
just like the jets were with him
Jets do not equal Steelers.
Thank Goodness!
Lions get Reed while get Isaiah Rodgers.
Former Eagles CB Isaiah Rodgers reached agreement on a 2-year $15 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings. The deal includes $8M fully guaranteed. The deal was negotiated by Bryan Gavin and Ed Wasielewski of EMG Sports.
he any good?
Not sure.
PFF grade of 76.0 last season, fwiw.
2022: 82.1
2021: 70.7
5’10”, 170 lbs
27 years old
From Eagles site:
According to the poop eaters on SB Nation, he is good but they were planning on replacing him with Ringo their draft pick from last year.
I just want to hear that Jones is coming back so the Rodgers crap can stop and the dread of that even being a possibility can go away.
It may be fun to watch A-Aron pouting on the sidelines, because he got beat out by a sophomore, essentially a rookie.
Still the most punchable face in the NFL.
Give me Becton and Fries!
Allen and Holland and Reed!
Gawddamnet! Kwesi is going to lose at free agency for the 3nd year in a row!!
this is sarcasm
Carlton Davis leaving the lions for the patriots. 3 years, $60M
DT Milton Williams to Panthers. $$$ From league’s best to (maybe) league’s worst?
Kinlaw to the Commanders. 3 years, $45M. Replacement for Jonathan Allen.
Drew Dalman signing with the Bears. 3 years, $42M, $28M guaranteed.
They can have him. A more expensive Bradbury.
Yup, goo run blocker but poor pass blocker. (Just like the right guard BTW)
Stupid Bears doing what the Vikings should have done years ago.
Yeahhhh , its going to back fire on them. Williams is still a walking brain fart, no amount of over paid line men is going to fix that.
Things can change in a hurry with a good OL. That’s what scares me.
I know you were on the pro Krik and anything else is doom team from what I remember but. I wouldn’t worry about the Bears until they have legit coaching. Everyone thought they made all the best moves last off season too and they still sucked ass. No doom in March.
Lol, nope.
Well good, you are of sane mind and judgments then. Sorry for the accusation.
Fortunately they need to change a LOT more than we do.
Vikings very much in on Will Fries
Panthers sign Jaycee Horn for 100 mil/4yrs. Murphy is gone. We may have quite a different secondary.
Damn.
Jonathan Allen is visiting the vikings today according to Tom Pelissero
It’s been 5 minutes. How many guards have we signed?
I see that as an upgrade, but low bar is low.
Moar Guards, please…
Did we tag Sam yet? (Snark)
Too late for tagging Sam-I-Am.
Resigning him is still a poor option though.
I want to hear that Rodgers is going anywhere but Minnesota really, really quick or at least that the Vikings are keeping Jones.
The Sam Darnold news has been removed from Steeler Nation website.
Since the Steelers got Metcalf last night they seem like a better fit for Sam that Seattle.
Seattle seems to be in full rebuild after trading away their QB and WR1, paying for Sam does not fit that model.
https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/dk-metcalf-trade-is-fun-but-is-it-really-what-the-steelers-needed-003330586.html
You never know, there are a lot of wide receivers available.
Interesting….seems like he would have been a good fit there.
Final predictions (until I change it last second):
Darnold –> Seattle
DJ Reed –> Vikings
Jevon Holland –> Vikings
Milton Williams –> not Vikings
Will Fries –> Vikings
Rodgers –> Steelers
Josh Sweat –> sadly one of the NFC North teams
Carlton Davis –> back to Detroit
Byron Murphy –> big contract elsewhere
Purdy to Pittsburgh, Darnold to SF and Seattle trades up for a rookie while also stealing Jones from the Vikings.
49ers arent getting rid of Purdy
Just figured I’d throw something crazy out there and if it’s wrong, then I was just being crazy and if it’s right then I’m a genius.
Yeah, I think Milton Williams will get overpaid by a lot. Let someone else do that. ๐๐ป
